saw your post about Hearts of Stone and i also have complicated rather feelings about that dlc, would you be willing to share some of your thoughts?

Honestly my main issues begin and end with the orientalism. I don't know how to take the Ofieri mage - Aamad - as anything but an Islamophoic caricature. I can't really enjoy the rest of the dlc after that, it's just such a disrespectful sequence to build a story off of and there's not much about it that isn't in poor taste. And that fact that he's the first real character of color geralt deals with outside of a succubus??? Is mysteriously powerful and violent men who cannot be reasoned with and dangerous, sexually available women in revealing clothing not the textbook definition of orientalism.

I guess as a side note, I don't really enjoy Shani being SO aggressively forced as a love interest. I did enjoy that she was there and got to take part in the story, but to me. lol. that was obvious pandering to male gamers who wanted another hot woman to hit on. I did everything I could on my play through NOT to kiss her but it still happened. so odd.

but that's it really, I've played it once, I enjoyed the bosses and Gaunter was a fun late addition to the lore, and like I said I ADORE the Von Evercs, but after that opening sequence and the messy handling of Ofir, I've never felt the need to return to it.

oh it was about the post lmao 😫😫 just how his tag suffers from popular fandom character syndrome in that in order to find content that I personally enjoy about him I have to wade through a lot of overly fandomized, out of character, stereotyped, untagged sexual content.

It just often feels like the fandom at large only values him as a tool to build m/m tropey fanfic with, not as a unique, compelling character.
