Alternative Physical Model
For the physical model, I chose a detailed scaled model. There are a couple of groupings; topography, trees, ruins and outpost.
The topography will be made using digital fabrication of the CNC machine, on a 25cm by 25cm wooden block. I’ve chosen the CNC for the topography because of the stepped topography, and I believe it would be a quick and useful process, especially because the topography doesn’t need any intricate detailing. An specific detail would be the use of epoxy resin to create the water effect on the deepest layers of topography. This process would’ve required the necessary file preparations on Illustrator.
For facility, the trees trunks could be represented by small wooden tubular sticks. As for the tree tops, they would be done by a combination of wood shop tools because of their circular top and finishing using sanding techniques. Due to their similar colour and shape I would also make the outpost by using the same wood. The outpost would be made from cuts using the wood shop and lots of sanding. The details of the outpost would be done by hand carvings.
For the fabrication of the ruins I would produce them digitally using the laser cut for both on 0.5 cm wood, to keep the wooden aesthetic and because it would be easy assembly. For the ruin that imitates Le Corbusiers’ Villa Savoye, the curved panels would need hatching to be bent. But because it’s laser cut smaller details like the chimney on the roof top ruin, would be 2 dimensional. This file would require necessary file preparations as well.

Task 7: Future Projections
Image 1: 25 years into the future
The first image is over two decades after a terrestrial destruction destroys all of the planet as we know it, and slowly after nature begins to take its course. The first things to regain stability is vegetation and shortly after these cloud like donuts appear floating over soil filled land where few but tall trees are growing. A civilization ruins appear as they tried to survive the destruction but ultimately failed.
Image 2: 100 years into the future
The second image is a hundred years after the destruction, and another civilization attempts to endure these environments. Now it is learned that water travels through these cloud like donuts and pour into the river below. More trees grow around this body of water and more of these clouds are discovered. Ruins of

Task 6: Ruination
For this task, I had further developed the narrative of both my topographies and the buildings that lie on it. Each ruin is from a different period in time but serve the topography as it results in the current state of the land which is this extraordinary circumstances of gravity defying water and objects.
As for the project itself, it was simple enough working on AutoCAD, but once things were moved onto Rhino, I had troubleshoot lots of extrusions and a lot of the V-Ray settings, even though I am happy with the work produced for this task, I see it changing, as I move on to the next task.

Finishing task 6 on Rhino, I encountered problems that I had to come up with innovative solutions. Some details of the ruins like cornices or detailed windows, were really intricate but I figured it out through trial and error!

These are Asperatus clouds which are dark and storm like. However, they dissipate without any storms.

Image 4, 5: 3-D print file
This task was simple enough. It was useful learning different ways to print them 3-D especially when they all vary in prices. I found the CNC file more difficult because it can only cutting vertically. If I had printed it out, I would choose wood because it would have to support heavier shapes over a bigger surface, even if it needed touch ups in the wood shop. Overall, it was a less demanding task but rewarding as you can have a physical copy of what you’ve designed.

Task 4 Reflection
This task in particular was particularly fun, especially because of the freedom to create any type of city in the 1 km by 1 km topography. My city is based on an alternate dimension where gravity works differently for water. The water travels through the floating donuts and accumulates to the dip in land of my topography. Due to the waters compatibility to the gravity, the trees grow super tall. This task was really fun especially discovering different commands on Rhino and playing around with the rendering of V-Ray; it really brings a realistic aspect to my made-up world. For next time I would work harder on layers because it can get confusing especially when saving views. I look forward to working with rendering for sure!
