I'd like to bring your attention to a campaign by Shahd Abu Mousa, a passionate dentistry student in Gaza whose studies were cut short by the violent ongoing genocide, and whose dreams were dashed when she and her family lost everything they own.

Shahd is trying to raise funds to save her family's lives, including her older brother, her parents, and her 3 younger sisters. They are a loving family, just trying to survive these horrific circumstances.

In addition to raising funds for her family, Shahd has been conducting the important and heroic work of acting as a volunteer dentist during the war, at great risk to herself, just to provide healthcare to her fellow Gazans at a time when resources are scarce and the medical infrastructure of Gaza is completely gone.

Being forced to constantly evacuate from area to area under threat of bombing and gunfire, as well as the scarce resources is no way to live. And this family needs your help. it really is mind-boggling to me that the only reason i know about the Congolese and Sudanese genocides is because of the tireless work of grassroots activists and advocates posting on social media. I can honestly say that if I didn't have social media and didn't happen to be following Black authors and activists, I never would have known what was happening in Sudan and Congo because it is simply not being reported in the great majority of mainstream media. We're talking millions upon millions of PEOPLE enduring unimaginable pain and devastation with next to no official reporting. And yes that is in huge part due to the level of violence and displacement occurring that is preventing a lot of news from getting out of these countries, but it's also so blatantly due to anti-Black racism and the perception of African Nations as inherently savage and violent. But genocide is not and never should be normal for anyone anywhere. With that in mind, please keep Congo and Sudan in your thoughts. Focus Congo's MO is a local organisation whose goal is to rebuild homes, rehabilitate land, and provide medical aid, education, and resources to Congo's most affected people. My name is Tala Nassar, I'm 17 years old from Gaza.

My mother is in critical medical condition. She was previously diagnosed with breast cancer in her left breast.

Her condition is indescribably serious, and her diagnosis worsens day by day. This situation has been exacerbated by the recent bombings and ground invasion of our area in Nusairat. Her condition has deteriorated further due to the toxic gases from bombs dropped just meters away from our home, and even from the smoke resulting from cooking over an open fire due to the lack of gas.

We have been displaced to the city of Rafah and are still living in makeshift tents, and she has not received any treatment since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza. The only cancer hospital in Gaza has been completely destroyed for a long time. Her weakened immune system and diabetes make matters worse, as finding any medication at the moment is impossible. We are incredibly afraid of the possibility of a malignant tumor or something worse occurring.

Please help us. We desperately need medical assistance for my mother, and time is running out for us. Your support can make a difference in saving her life.

there is something horrifically grim to it, but illustrations for gaza and palestinians tend to catch more mass attention that actual photos of people. this made me feel incredibly helpless for a long while, seeing both how people would rather look at a neat drawing of red black green and white than look a human in the eyes, and how online platforms would rather push a viral drawing while suppressing those begging for help at the same time.

a way to cope with this feeling has been taking advantage of it to directly guide people to helping palestinians.

if art gets better traction, then there’s an incredible amount of good that can be done by creating art that immediately links to fundraisers. creating art of the many images of those who are asking for help.

within hours of posting my drawing, there has been jumps in the thousands for bashar from gaza’s fundraiser. it’s a small effort in the grand scheme of things. it’s not a fix it. but it’s something good. please take care of each other and do what you can. i think this could help a lot of people if a lot of people did it.

While it seems great on paper that the ICC has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for their role in war crimes in Gaza, it won’t actually achieve much. It’s important to remember that international law is mostly symbolic, and while it’s been a useful tool for advocating for Palestinians, it hasn’t really achieved much for Palestinians. it’s also non-enforceable, and beyond a human rights framework, it doesn’t address issues of power dynamics or or do much to advance national liberation, particularly against occupation and colonisation. Even if Gallant and Netanyahu were to be arrested, which they might not be, the state of Israel will still exist tomorrow, a new leader will arise, the occupation and oppression will persist, and Palestinians will still be killed. International law can be useful as i mentioned but will not liberate Palestinians, especially when powerful states can breach resolutions with impunity all they like.
