My Home and Garden Before the War

My dear friends I want to share a small part of my story with you. Before the war destroyed everything, I had a home full of memories, and even small things like my plants gave me comfort and a sense of peace. I had a life that, though humble, was mine. Here are a few pictures of my home and garden, showing the beauty that once was.

Sadly, everything has been lost, and the future remains uncertain. The war has taken so much, and now, I’m asking for help to rebuild my life. I am trying to escape this devastation with my family and move somewhere we can live at least a somewhat normal life. But we need your support to make this happen.

My home, which was once a place of comfort and peace, was completely destroyed. The memories I held there are now shattered, and I feel the weight of the loss every day. This video will give you a deeper understanding of the devastation we now face. Please watch and see the reality of what we’ve lost.

As we enter this Christmas season, a time meant for family, warmth, and joy, my heart aches for the peace and comfort that we have lost. Christmas is about giving, and your kindness, no matter how small, could help us find a way to rebuild and start over.

My children and I lived under bombardment and aggression. We had a safe home full of dreams and a bright future for my daughters.

But everything changed when the war on Gaza began. Our house, which we built with strength and effort before the war, was destroyed.

We lost our job, which was our only source of income. The journey of displacement and moving from one place to another began without the minimum necessities of life. We faced difficulties in providing healthy food and clean water. We lived in fear and terror. My daughters could no longer sleep from the intensity of fear.

My mother-in-law suffers from serious lung infections and chronic diseases, and we find it difficult to provide appropriate treatment for her, especially in the winter and the bitter cold. She is part of our family after losing her husband. We are now without shelter, moving from one place to another, and struggling to survive. Today we have no income, no life, and no work. We are determined to rebuild our dreams, secure our future, and rebuild our home. We cannot do this alone and we need your help in building our lives. Since the war on Gaza began on 10/7/2023, my family - my father Muhammad, my mother Hiba and my siblings Nour, Maram, Mahmoud - have been living in constant fear, crying and suffering because of shrapnel, shells and bullets. We have no food🥘🌯, no electricity, no cooking gas, no schools🏢📚, no homes🏚, no cleaning supplies, no clothes🧣🧥🧤. Our house was completely destroyed. My school was bombed, and my sister Nour's university was turned into rubble, which deprived us all of education. The war forced us to live in displacement centers, which are just tents that are not suitable for living, especially in winter. Every day we live death, terror and panic a thousand times because of the continuous bombing of my city. The war has killed more than 50 of my relatives and neighbors. At the beginning of the war, we took refuge in my aunt's house, but it was also turned into rubble. Imagine: We have escaped imminent death more than 20 times, and have been displaced between shelters more than 13 times. My brothers and I have suffered from many diseases due to malnutrition, and we need medicine constantly. If we stay in Gaza, we may lose our lives. Recently, we have been seriously considering leaving Gaza to a safe place. However, the travel costs are very high. We need more than 70 thousand dollars to leave Gaza. Due to the exorbitant prices, rampant unemployment, insecurity, the ongoing blockade, and the continuous bombing, we have lost all our money. How can we live in such insecurity💔🙏, with the constant bombing and shrapnel flying above us? My name is Shada Kassab, and I am a 24-year-old mother living in Gaza. Every day is a fight for survival for me, my husband Hussein, and our baby boy Adam, who is just five months old.

Our lives have been turned upside down by war. My home has been reduced to rubble, and my husband lost his water truck, which was our only source of income. We’ve been forced to evacuate twice—from Deir el Balah to the Nuseirat camp—and now, we live in constant fear of what the future holds.

To make matters worse, Adam was born with clubfoot and urgently needs surgery. The cost for his treatment and specialized medical boots is at least $3000, but this surgery isn’t even possible in Gaza.

I am a 33-year-old Moamen from Gaza. I stand before you as someone who is trying to support my family of 5: me, my wife and my three children, in the miserable conditions we live in after the occupation launched the war on Gaza. We were displaced from our home and it was completely destroyed. We now live in a tent. Due to the circumstances and the lack of income, we are unable to provide the necessary support such as food and drink due to the crazy rise in prices. Thus, my source of livelihood has been destroyed, in fact completely destroyed, as we are no longer allowed to work; and we expect to live in miserable conditions in tents. It is difficult for me to find the words to describe what we face every day on the street; without food, medicine or clean drinking water; with the oppression, helplessness, psychological pressures, doubts and daily trauma caused by everything around us and the inability to care for our loved ones. The fear of danger, illness and death never leaves us.

“Now I find myself in this difficult situation, and I humbly ask you to help me save the lives of my family, especially my infant, by getting us out of Gaza to Egypt and building a new life outside Gaza, or helping us get out of Gaza. The family is in Egypt but are still struggling to survive. Etaf wants to enroll her children in school again before the current semester ends. However, public schools are only available to Egyptian residents (which Palestinians aren't) and only expensive private schools are available. To continue her children's education, she needs €10,000 in her campaign (includes extra fees) as soon as possible before Dec 31.

The family of 7 lost everything - their home, livelihood, and belongings.

Eldest sons Moataz and Moatasem and daughter Maria (7) were top students but their education was interrupted by the war.

They were evacuated to Egypt in March, where they are still struggling because nobody is helping them. Governmental aid is very slow.

a really great organization that i don't see any posts about here is HEAL palestine. it was founded by steve sosebee, who was a founding president of the PCRF before leaving in late 2023 to refocus his efforts on heal palestine to better meet the needs of palestinians impacted by the genocide. the organization provides palestinians in gaza with food, clean water, shelters, "makeshift classrooms," and even medical evacuation for some children when it's possible--their services are pretty wide.

you can donate here if you would like to send a tax-deductible donation to an organization. also, i don't think any evacuations are possible right now, but if you're in the united states and you'd like to welcome medically evacuated children in the future, i highly recommend signing up for their newsletter or following them on social media so you can stay updated in case any children evacuated by HEAL come to your area for treatment. welcoming these kids at the airport is a really moving way to provide them with moral support, entirely for free.
