Are our existing journalism and broadcast media code of ethics enough to protect one’s integrity and human rights? Why are there still cases of misconduct of the law, such as the spread of fake news and exploitation of victims on the news? Are we giving enough?

Sa dinamirami ng mga batas para sa journalismo at media, marami paring pagkakataong hindi napagpahalagahan ang mga nakalaad na batas. Question ba ito ng gawaing pang-pera, o pang-pasyon?

WOMEN are vital, not just in our society but also in Media.
Over the years, The Philippines have made efforts to promote gender equality by implementing the Magna Carta for Women (Republic Act No. 9710), where it is stated that  “Self-regulatory bodies, groups, and associations for media, television, cable, film, and advertising shall also ensure compliance with the Act and these Rules and Regulations.”
The representation of women in media in the Philippines, without the gender stereotypes, is still a work in progress due to the misogynistic and patriarchal mindsets embedded into our society.
However, it is the start of a movement towards empowerment and change.

In the post-modern age of technology, are we really going to believe everything we read and see? What if I told you that some of the news articles we’ve read in the past have been manipulated by people of power? What if the “truth” was just fabricated pieces of information put together? According to Vanderwicken (1995), he states that “The news media and the government have created a charade that serves their own interests but misleads the public.”
Does this imply that people of power have an advantage to deceive the masses using their ability to formulate an image of themselves or promote themselves towards the public?
It’s always better to be sure, be aware, and to speak the truth. At the end of the day, the truth always prevails.

Sa Terasa (2018), Liceo De La Salle | First theater play where I worked behind the scenes as a Stage Manager, instead of being an actor. The play was directed by Maby Dequinto, in fulfillment of our Arts & Design strand culminating play production.

Student Activities Coucil (SAC) | Liceo De La Salle | SY 2016-2017 & 2017-2018 | This was the start of my student leadership journey. It takes a lot to balance responsibilities - acads, meetings, events, etc., not to mention the overall persona you have to represent as a student leader.

Dukhan English School Orchestra 2012-2015 | Becoming a student musician (Cellist), I had to skip classes for rehearsals and practices. During show season, I’d be in the theater all day, hopping on and off the stage for rehearsal segments. Time management and patience were key.
