i once tried to kill a spider, which i usually do not do, because i was panicking over the sheer size of him and his proximity to my at-the-time ailing, elderly dog. felt bad but could not take that decision back. later i opened the trash where i had left him. he was there. alive. on top of a paper plate. big fuckin guy. felt like he was looking at me. ‘try that shit again.’ i have never tried to kill a spider since.

honestly christianity really hit the jackpot with "jesus christ" rolling off the tongue as an expletive so well. the number one problem with fantasy settings is that whatever names you come up with to take in vain will never hit as well as "jesus christ"

mary-ann rushing over to jace because she doesn't feel good is so sad to me. she's been groomed by these adults, and she just turned to who she thought she could trust. who's just using and manipulating her.

i wouldn't say that i interpret it as like, an active and purposeful character decision necessarily, but to me it DOES narratively make sense that the bad kids are... the way they are. especially towards the rat grinders. i think it's a narrative that is unkind and very sad, but i don't think it's unsubstantiated. the reality of interpersonal interactions is that people do tend to despise those that are most like them. likeness builds resentment. success makes people more cruel. an aquaintance and comfort with violence makes it easier to do.

this is a blatant criticism made of adventuring itself from the very first episode: it gives people the power required to enforce their will upon the world. it does not shock me whatsoever that the bad kids are more vicious to people their own age who they feel personally slighted by than they are to ancient, deific forces.
