A Bitty Drabble Series
- || Chapter V -
< Previous || Masterlist || Next >
Tumblr media
- || Summary -
A series about you and your bitties.
Redoul was your first bitty. He was an unknown kind of Fell bitty that ended up being sold to a bitty fighting ring when he was still young. He was able to escape with the help from his cellmate and his cell’s neighbor, who helped him sneak out and run away.
Redoul, who’s life was saved by you, ended up falling in love with you... and you accepted those feelings and returned them.
...But as the story goes on, you eventually find and meet those old friends of his, and they become just as important to you as Redoul is.
Of course, you don’t stop at just your three LV ridden bitties, and take in more as time goes on.
...Although, none of your more recent bitties have quite the same amount of LV as your first three do, and they might just be a little scared of the trio at first, but with time they do get along and eventually do find comfort in one another.
Tumblr media
You spent most of your shopping trip in the clothing aisles, as you already had mostly everything else you would need at your house. You had asked them if they wanted anything like beds, but they had both declined the offer when Redoul instead suggested that they just sleep with you and him in your bed (you of course had no issues with that). Although Nebul did end up getting a random pillow he found in one of the aisles out of place. Apparently he liked the texture of it.
You all looked around for a while longer for anything else you might need, but nothing stood out to any of you. When you all decided that you didn’t need anything else, you started to head for the register.
Finally arriving at one of the lines for checkout, you begin to wait. Nebul and Redoul had at some point moved into the cart to sit next to Ichor, looking through the things they picked out—par Redoul, who didn’t get anything, but made suggestions throughout your shopping trip.
     Although…
You couldn’t help but notice that the employee behind the register kept subtly trying to steal glances at your bitties. You couldn’t really blame him, since they were all pretty unique. Ichor was a Shattered Dream—one of the rarest bitties out there, Redoul was an unspecified Fell type—another rare occurrence, and Nebul was an Outertale bitty—one of the more passive AUs—with only one eyelight and a massive crack going down his face. Not exactly subtle.
Poor guy was probably having a hard time processing the fact that there were three very unusual bitties in front of him.
Like you said before, it’s not like the staring was unexpected when you were coming in here, but it’s still annoying. Nonetheless, you remained polite when it was your turn to have your things get checked out.
He did his best to stare at his hands while he worked, trying not to look up.
Now you kind of want to laugh. The poor kid was just too awkward to ask a question, or make eye contact.
In the end, it was Redoul who spoke up first. “Oh For The Love Of—If You Have A Question You Want To Ask, ASK!! We Won’t Be Mad At You For Being Curious!”
The guy flinched, seeming to have been taken out of his train of thought. “Ah, uh, sorry. I just… have no idea what to say, or ask… I don’t want to sound rude…” He admitted.
“We will not be mad at you for being curious, and we will not be offended. I promise.” Ichor said.
Nebul nodded. “mhmm, don’t worry about us and ask away. you’ll never learn anything if you don’t ask any questions.”
The man stuttered. “A-ah, r-right. Um, well, if you say so. Ahem, so, what… what kind of bitties are you? I’m pretty sure you,” he pointed to Nebul, “are a Comet, and you,” he then pointed to Ichor, “are a Shattered Dream. But I don’t know what you are…” he said as his eyes landed on Redoul.
Redoul nodded. “Unsurprising, But Before I Answer Your Question You Should Keep Scanning Those Items.” He said, pointing to your things.
“Ah—right!” He continued to scan as he waited for Redoul to continue.
“Good. Now Then, I’m A Fell Type Obviously, But I’m Not One Of The Known Ones,” he pauses, and looks to you. “Actually, Are We Ever Going To Get That Checked Out? Because We Still Haven’t Had That Looked At As A New Fell Type.”
You blink, and think for a moment, before answering. “Hm, well if you want to then we can. Perhaps we can go and see that vet that Rynell told us about—the one next to the center.”
“Good, We’ll Do That Then. Not today though” You nod, and Redoul looks back to the employee, who looked a little stunned.
“A new Fell type and a Shattered Dream…? Wow, I never thought I’d ever meet even one of those things, let alone both .” He looked at Nebul. “What about you? Don’t tell me all three of you have something crazy going on.”
Nebul only laughed and shook his head. “nah, i’m the only normal one here.”
Redoul scoffed, and even Ichor gave him an amused side eye.
     “No You’re Not.”
“No normal Comet can do what you can do, Nebul.”
“…good to know you think so highly of me…” He pouted.
The rest of the time spent at the checkout was filled with light conversation with the cashier. He stuck to asking simple questions, probably not wanting to overstep, and your boys were happy to answer.
Eventually everything was scanned and paid for. You place your bags into the cart and wave the man goodbye.
“Well he was nice. A little shy, but once you got him talking he seemed to have been enjoying himself.”
Nebul nodded, agreeing with you. “mhmm, a real curious guy. seemed like a good kid that one.”
“I wonder if he has any bitties of his own. He seemed quite used to talking to us as individuals, rather than items or pets.”
“Maybe, Or He Could Be One Of The Employees That Works With The Bitties More Often, And Just Happened To Be Behind The Register Today.”
     “Maybe.” You say.
You continue to chat with the three of them as you load your bags into your car, and eventually take the boys with you to put the cart away.
With that done you head back to your car and get in, letting your bitties get comfortable.
You look at them and smile with anticipation.
     “Ready to go home?”
They smiled back, just as big.
Tumblr media
The drive back wasn’t necessarily eventful, but the four of you had continued to talk nearly the whole way there. Eventually, during your conversation, you got on the topic of how you met Redoul.
“wait, you almost drove over him???”
“No! …Well… okay yeah I almost did, but I didn’t actually hit him! He ran out in front of me and I ended up swerving to avoid him. No damage done.” You hear Nebul laughing at your words.
“I Don’t Ever Remember Running Out Into The Road, But Considering I Was Obviously On The Verge Of Passing Out, It’s Not Surprising That I Don’t.”
“Mhmm, you were in terrible condition when I found you.” You glance over at Ichor and Nebul and continue to tell them your story. “I was originally going to stock up on various different things for the winter, like food and wood, and I eventually did, but I got a little sidetracked when Redoul practically fell into my lap. I took him to a vet nearby—not a very good one, by the way. They didn’t even realize he wasn’t a normal Fell bitty; it’s closed now, thankfully. They checked him out and treated him, among other things. I don’t remember all the details, but in the end, after they were finished, they ended up handing him back to me to take home. Which seemed like a mess up on their part, since Redoul didn’t wake up for another week after that.”
Ichor blinked in surprise. “A week? I knew he was in bad condition when we snuck him out, but I didn’t know it was bad enough to warrant such a long period of rest.” He said.
You nod. “Yeah, that was a misstep on the vet’s part, but again, that vet wasn’t very good. Two days later I worked up the courage to leave him alone at the house to finally go stock up on supplies in town. I was able to get everything I needed, thankfully, since nobody seemed to be too worried about the upcoming winter at the time. Their mistake, I suppose, since the winter was about as bad as I had expected it to be.”
“how were you able to tell that the winter was gonna be bad? how come nobody else was expecting it? I thought humans had that whole weather thing figured out.” Nebul asked.
You hum and answer. “Kinda. Weather forecasts are a thing, and they are usually pretty accurate, but sometimes things can slip under the radar. Everyone was expecting it to be cold, yeah, but they also all lived in town, where help was just around the corner in the form of neighbors. I, on the other hand, live too far away from town to get any help if I need it. I needed to stock up on more than they did, because I would have nobody to help if I needed it.”
It’s silent for a moment, and you briefly glance at your bitties, wondering why they were so quiet.
Nebul and Ichor looked almost solemn at your words, clearly not expecting them. Redoul just looked proud, already familiar with how you lived your life, let alone being a part of it.
“So you… survive your winters, essentially?” Ichor finally asked.
You pause to think a moment, before answering. “Not really—or not usually , at least. That winter was a bit of an exception. I had just moved into my new home and wasn’t expecting the winter to come so early. It wasn’t necessarily trying to survive , I—or we, since Redoul was there, weren’t in mortal danger or anything, I had already gotten everything we would need to winter through the cold.” You pause again, before continuing. “Last winter wasn’t like that one at all. The first snow came when it was expected, there wasn’t so much snow that we were stuck inside, it wasn’t even as cold, and we had way more time to prepare than last time—I will admit, I kind of over prepared, but I much rather be over prepared than under prepared. But that’s not the point! We’re getting off track!”
The boys laugh, and Ichor and Nebul seem to have been put at ease, so you continue.
“A day before Redoul woke up, it had snowed so much so suddenly that we ended up being snowed in. The snow piled up so high I couldn’t even see out my windows. We were completely stuck. Which, to be honest, ended up being a good thing. When Redoul woke up the next day, he lashed out—understandably. He was in a completely new environment with no recollection as to how he got there, along with coming from a more than unpleasant situation, I can’t blame him for reacting the way he did,” you look down when you feel something on your legs, only to find Redoul climbing into your lap, making himself comfortable. Looking back to the road, you continue. “Due to the snow he wasn’t able to leave, and thus kinda forced him to stay and rest. I’ll skip over the details for now, but we ended up being stuck together for nearly two months. In the beginning we agreed that once the snow melted enough for us to actually go outside, I would let him leave—if he still wanted to. I think we can all guess what happened after the snow melted.” You said cheekily.
Everyone, even Redoul, laughed a little.
“But yeah, that’s what happened.” You concluded.
It was quiet for a moment longer, and you let them think, not wanting to disturb them.
“…so,” Ichor started hesitantly. “If that is how you met, how did you fall in love?”
     You draw a blank.
“What?” You and Redoul both say, surprised.
“How did you fall in love?” He asked again.
You blink, feeling slightly flustered and caught off guard, taking a moment to think. “Um, well, to be honest, I didn’t really fall in love with Redoul until after I agreed to let him court me. I don’t really fall in love easily; I have to let myself fall in love.” You say honestly.
“…what?”— “…I’m sorry?” You hear Nebul and Ichor say.
You go to answer, but Redoul beats you to it. “Ma Chère Does Not Love Passively. Once She Starts, She Won’t Stop. Ever. And Because Of That, She Has To Guard Her Heart Closely. If She Doesn’t, She Could—And Has—End Up Getting Hurt. As For How Or When I Fell In Love, I Can’t Say. It Happened Over Time, And When I Realized I Had, There Simply Was No Turning Back.”
     …
“what did you mean… when you said she had been hurt?” Nebul eventually asked.
“Ah,” You couldn’t help but sigh, thinking back on it, but you answered nonetheless. “I’ll keep it short; years back, long before I was even living in this town, I had some friends that I loved very dearly. However, apparently, one of the girls there didn’t like me at all, and spread rumors about me behind my back to the others. No matter what I said or what I did to try and defend myself nobody would listen to me—not even my best friends. I was outcasted from everyone. I don’t even know what I did to get that girl to hate me so much, but she did. It feels embarrassing, knowing that I had trusted them so much, but I had been completely heartbroken. I’m over it now, but even when I think back on them, I can’t bring myself to hate them, or even be mad. I still love them, but I’d never want them back in my life, as contradictory as that sounds, but I know they would only hurt me again if I did. So, hopefully, we’ll all never see each other again—for everyone’s benefit.”
You glance down at Redoul and the absolutely stormy look on his face. “…and probably for their safety.”
     …Redoul only growled.
Ichor and Nebul didn’t look all too pleased either. “…I’m sorry you had to go through that. …I think I would need to join Redoul in whatever he had in mind should we ever meet them.” Nebul nodded in agreement.
“Please don’t. That would only get you taken away from me.”
     “…not if nobody finds out.”
Ichor and Redoul perk up at Nebul’s words.
     “Oh shining stars, you three…”
Tumblr media
Finally, the long awaited moment is here.
     You’re home, with your boys.
With your bitties in your arms, you step out of your car and stand in front of your house.
“…Welcome home boys.” You say softly.
You look at Redoul. “Do you want me to drop you off inside while I get the groceries? That way you can show them around.” You look at the other two. “Or do you want me to stick around?”
They all glance at each other before Redoul looks back at you. “Go Get The Groceries, And Then All Four Of Us Can Go Inside To Show Them Around.”
You smile and nod. “Okay, let me set you down so I can go get everything.”
With that, you set them down on the hood of the car and move to the back to get your groceries. There weren’t too many bags so you were able to carry everything easily enough. You go to close the trunk, only to see your boys standing on top of its door.
You huff out a laugh, “Well hello, boys.” You say.
You feel a sudden weight on your right shoulder, and look over to see Nebul. “hello~” He says.
You make eye contact with Redoul, readying yourself for what you know he’s going to do. As expected, he jumps and lands on your left shoulder in a well practiced movement. “Hello, Ma Chère.”
You look at the final bitty on the door, and wait for what he’ll do. With a hum, he reaches over with his tendrils and carefully grabs onto the base of your neck, right where it meets your shoulders. He pulls himself over and settles himself next to Redoul, wrapping a tendril around him to keep him from falling off—just in case.
You couldn’t help but tilt your head and lift your shoulder—the one Nebul was on—at the sensation while giggling. “Hahaha, that tickles.”
Ichor smiles somewhat bashfully and apologizes. “Ah, my apologies…” He said.
…he can’t help but be glad that you weren’t bothered by his tendrils around your neck, most humans would have been… uncomfortable, even by the thought alone.
The last human to have them there certainly was.
As you closed the trunk, Ichor felt an elbow in his side, breaking him from his thoughts. He looks over to see Redoul already staring at him. “Stop that.” He says quietly.
“…” Ichor smiles, thankful to Redoul for breaking him out of his thoughts. “Right, of course.”
You walk towards the front door, locking your car as you pass it, and unlock the front door of your home… of their new home.
With a click, you open the door and walk into the living room. “Here we are, welcome home.”
You look around your living room. It hasn’t changed much from when you first moved in, the most that has changed was the few houseplants that now decorated it and the kitchen. There were also two or three blankets thrown across the arms of the couch, too, but that wasn’t surprising. Most bitties absolutely loved soft things like blankets and pillows for things like making nests. Redoul was no exception, and he only fed your love for things like bedding and soft clothes.
…You’re brought out of your thoughts by Nebul, who was starting to… shake?
You look over at him, only to see him with magic tears pooling at the edges of his sockets.
He lifts his arm and rubs at his face with his sleeve, partly hiding his expression. “i… i don’t remember the last time i got to call a place home. sorry.” He apologized meekly.
You lift your hand—letting the bag you’re holding slide to rest at your elbow—and go to hold him, only to stop short, not wanting to overstep.
Ichor takes one of the tendrils resting on that side of your neck and wraps it around Nebul gently, cradling him as he begins to cry.
“You can cry, Nebul. This place is safe, you can cry.”
Nebul only curls in on himself and tucks his body into your neck, under your chin. Taking that as a sign, you cup your hand against his back and pull him closer, along with Ichor’s tendrils, one of which wrapped around your forearm.
     “i‘m sorry… ‘m just so happy… sorry… sorry…”
Your heart and soul clenched at his words, and you couldn’t stop yourself from speaking. “Shhhh… you can cry, you don’t need to say sorry. No one will be mad at you for being happy. Not here, not ever.” You run your thumb across his skull as he sobbed into your neck.
“You’re home, and home will always be safe.”
Before you know it, you find yourself sitting down on the couch, grocery bags discarded on the coffee table. You cuddled your three bitties to your chest, cradling each of them gently. Ichor and Redoul took to holding Nebul between the both of them in your arms, comforting him as he cried.
Minutes passed—you’re not quite sure how many—before Nebul’s sobs finally died down. He pulled away from your chest and sat there, still between his packmates and in your arms.
“well, that was embarrassing.” He said, whipping at his sockets for any stray tears. His cheekbones were covered in one of the cutest blushes you’ve ever seen. It was like a little galaxy; covered in blues and teals and purples, and speckled with white dots like little stars— it was adorable.
But, nonetheless, you decided to keep that opinion to yourself.
“No, It Was Not. You Have Nothing To Be Ashamed Of.”
“Crying is to be no embarrassment, Nebul. There is nothing to apologize for.”
     “haha, right, right. thanks, guys.”
You look at the three of them with a soft expression, before addressing Nebul. “Are you alright now? That was pretty sudden.”
Nebul looked sheepish as he rubbed his neck. “yeah, i’m good. i just… this is probably gonna sound a little weird to you, since you’re a human, but this placed just smelled so much like you and redoul, and your presence was everywhere, and you called it our home… i just couldn’t help but feel like it was just… ugh, i don’t know how to say it. it just felt like i was finally home .”
You smiled as you spoke. “That’s because you are home, Nebul.”
He froze, seeming to not know what to say. His blush grew brighter, taking on deeper, richer colors, and the stars (or were they freckles?) only grew brighter.
He looked away flustered, and a soft, soft , smile stretched across his skull.
     “yeah, i am… we are.”

Not my best chapter, not my worst, but I don’t hate it, and that’s all that really matters.
I’m not a hundred percent sure where to take the story from here… do I want to write more scenes with our main three, do I want to do a timeskip and explore the universe I’ve set up more, do I want to finally introduce Allira (reader’s best friend (not the old ones)), or do I want to introduce more bitties with or without a time skip? Idk.
Any suggestions on what bitties you want to see the boys interact with? Either now or in the future. I’m still drawing a blank on who I want to integrate into the story first and how.

“Boys, I’m back.” You announced as you opened the door. It had been only about 18 minutes since you left, and you were silently glad that you made it back before the 20 minute mark you had unintentionally made for yourself.
The trio seemed to be talking about something when you walked in, making them look up at you when you called out to them.
“Ma Chère! It’s About Time You Got Back!”
“look who it is, welcome back.”
“We were just wondering when you would be back.”
You smile at them. You can’t help but like the attention they were giving you.
“Yep! And I have a surprise! Or, well, a request? Depends on how you want to see it.” You step away from the door and enter the room. You bring forward one of the chairs in the room and set it next to the table they were on, sitting yourself down in it.
“I wanted to word this in a more fun way, but I figured it would be best to just be upfront about it. I signed some more papers—thankfully not as much as before—and have received the green light to bring you guys home with me and Redoul, if you want to come with us.”
     …
“I’m—I’m sorry? What?” Umbra stuttered out.
Redoul then spoke up with a mock glare on his face. “Oh I Knew You Were Up To Something. Why Didn’t You Tell Me!?”
Cos stayed quiet, looking as shocked as Umbra sounded.
You laugh at Redoul’s shout, and gently replied to both of their questions. “Well, if I had it wouldn’t have been a surprise. And of course, if this is a little to fast and you would rather stay here for a while longer—“
“— no! no, we’ll go. please.” Cos spoke up at your words, sitting up from his position on the pillow.
Umbra stood up and walked over to you, once again wrapping a tendril around your arm. “We would love to go with you, My Dear—” You blink at the nickname, mildly surprised. “—But are you sure? I will agree, this is rather sudden, but I would believe it be more-so for you. We would hate to intrude.”
Redoul only scoffed. “As If You Would Be Intruding .”
You nod in agreement and smile. “Our home is your home, of course you're welcome.”
Cos and Umbra looked at each other, sharing unspoken words, before looking back to you. “Then, if that’s the case, we would love to come with you.”
—You felt a sudden weight drop on your shoulder, making you jump slightly. You look over to find Cos sitting there, smiling a smile that was warmer than any of the ones you’ve seen on him before. He looks away shyly when he sees your eyes on him. “thanks for taking us in, really,” he looks back at you and his smile somehow gets even bigger—and softer. “hope you’re ready to be stuck with us~”
Umbra hums in agreement and wraps the rest of his tendrils around you. “Indeed. Don’t expect to get rid of us now.” He smiles teasingly.
You and Redoul share a smile, and he hops up onto your other shoulder—the one he’s usually on.
“I wouldn’t even dream of it.”
     …
“ …*snicker*… hehe, you wouldn’t even dream of it.”
     …
“…OH DAMN IT COS!!! NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR PUNS!!!— You Ruined The Moment!! ”
Your eyes flicker down to Umbra, feeling his tendrils tighten slightly around your arm.
He was pressing his, er, lips(?) together to prevent himself from laughing, trying to remain as stoic as possible, as he stood there shaking slightly.
     …
‘ Oh my freaking— They’re. So. Damn. Cute!!! ”
You brought your free hand up to your face and pressed it to your mouth, trying to muffle your giggles.
     “Ma Chère Not You Too!!!”
Cos was absolutely ecstatic at your reaction, and went on to ramble off various different sleep related puns for the next few minutes.
You and Umbra proceeded to die a little over the next few minutes, not being able to breath as you try to contain your laughter.
Redoul was fuming the whole time.
Tumblr media
Eventually, you and Redoul, along with your two newest members of your household, made it up to the front desk. Rynell had said that once everything was settled between the four of you you were allowed to bring them to the front to finish signing the last of the papers.
“Alright, all that’s left now is for you to sign here,” she pointed to a blank line on the page, “and to see if your new bitties want new names, because if they do you’ll need to write them down on these papers and sign again.”
You hum and look at Cos and Umbra, asking “Well, what do you think? Do you want new names, or do you want to keep your old ones?”
The two of them both smile and nod. “We’ve already thought about it, and have decided that we want you to give us new names. We want to take a page out of Redoul’s book, so to speak, and leave our old names with the ring.”
Redoul smiles with them. “It’s Only Fitting; New Names For A New Life.”
A wide grin stretches across your face as you answer. “I would love to give you new names, but you’re gonna have to give me a few minutes to think of something good for you two, ok?”
Cos answered, “sounds fine to me, but i gotta ask; where is redoul’s name even from? i’ve never heard of it before.”
“I am also curious.” Umbra spoke up from his spot in your arms.
You laugh and look to Rynell. “Would you mind if we go sit down while I think of some names? And tell them where Redoul got his name too, of course.”
“Go right ahead, take all the time you need.”
     “Thank you.”
You take a seat in one of the chairs at the side of the room and explain where Redoul’s name is from.
“Well, I would assume you know of Redoul’s rather… venomous nature,” they both nod, “and as such, I thought the name of a poisonous plant would be fitting. As I searched, I eventually stumbled across redouls. Redouls are poisonous berries that, ironically enough, slightly resemble blackberries. So, naturally, I thought the name was only fitting for someone who was a new counterpart to all the other berry-named-bitties. And thus is the origin of Redoul’s name.”
(The irony here is that the other Swap Sanses are named after berries. Blueberry, for Underswap (affectionately called Baby Blue); Raspberry, for Fellswap Red; Blackberry, for Fellswap Violet; Wineberry, for Fellswap Gold.)
((As a bonus, here’s the names I’ve decided on for the Swap AU’s Papyruses: Honey, for Underswap (unsurprising); Hound, for Fellswap Red; Coin, for Fellswap Violet; Coffeebean, for Fellswap Gold (I was so proud of that one))
“ok, i’ll admit, that’s pretty good. especially since it could be counted as a pun.”
     “Don’t Ruin This For Me.”
     “i make no promises.”
Umbra ignored the other two’s banter as he addressed you. “Do you have anything in mind for us, then? I must say, I admire the amount of thought you put into Redoul’s name.”
“Haha, thank you, but…” you trail off, thinking. “Well, I have some ideas, but they might be a little… dark?”
Umbra only hummed, listening. Your words seemed to have caught Cos and Redoul’s attention as well.
“well, don’t worry about offending us or something, tell us!” Cos said from your right shoulder.
“I Highly Doubt That They Will Dislike Any Name You Pick For Them. Just Tell Them.” Redoul reassured you from his usual spot on your left shoulder.
“Oh, fine. Well, for Cos, I was thinking of Nebul. It’s the German word for Nebula—unsurprising. A nebula is what is usually left over from a dead star, and is, technically, made up of stardust. Given your history with… dust, I thought it would be fitting.”
Cos stared at you for a moment, processing the information, before grinning. “Nebul, huh? i like it.”
You return the grin. “I’m glad.”
      “And for me?” Umbra asked.
“Mh, well, this one might be a bit of a stretch, but I’ll say it anyway. Have you ever heard of the word ichor?” All three of them blinked, and Umbra shook his head. “Well, ichor is the word people would occasionally use to refer to the blood of a god with. Typically, it’s depicted as gold, and while you may not be completely gold in color, you do reflect it slightly. For whatever reason, your color reminded me of it, so I thought Ichor might be a fitting name. What do you say?”
He smiled, and—oh, was that a gold blush? “It’s  a wonderful name. I would be delighted if you were to call me Ichor.”
Redoul nodded along, smirking proudly. “Ma Chère Would Only Pick The Best Names, So Of Course You Like Them.”
You laugh at Redoul’s words. “Then it’s settled. Let me fill out these papers for your new names and then we’ll get to head out—oh, I meant to ask, do you want head to the store to get you two some personal items for you to use—like clothes—or do you just want to head home first and go out at another time?” You ask.
Cos, now Nebul, hummed. “hm, i’m fine with whatever.”
“While I would like to go and see our new home sooner rather than later, it would probably be wise for us to go and get some proper clothes before anything else.” Ichor decided.
You nod and let out an affirmative sound, filling out the papers for their new names as Ichor sits in your lap patiently. Redoul and Nebul continue to playfully tease and pass jibes with one another from across your shoulders. Nebul would throw out a pun every once in a while and make Redoul growl something out in response, but you could tell it was all in good humor.
With the last of the papers signed you carefully stand up, allowing Ichor to sit in the nook of your arm and cling to it while holding your papers in your free hand. You felt Nebul tighten his grip on you at your movement, vs Redoul who didn’t move much, already long used to being on you as you moved around.
You quietly huff a laugh as you think of a bad pun, but the sound doesn’t escape Nebul’s notice.
“oh? what’ch’ya thinkin’ about?” He asked playfully.
“Just thinking of bad puns. You’re a bad influence on me.”
     “Oh Stars No. Don’t.”
     “no no, please do share.”
     “It’s really bad, I shouldn’t.”
      “I think you should.”
“…sorry Redoul, it’s two against one.”
     “I Hate You.”
“I love you too. But anyway! I was just thinking that hopefully you’ll be able to get used to sitting on my shoulder as I move around, and, y’know, get a grip on it. ”
“ *snirk—* what are you talking about? that was great , hehehehehe…”
“It wasn’t and you know it.” You say, ignoring Ichor as he tries to contain his laughter.
You arrive at the front desk with two snickering bitties along with one scowling one in your hold, making Rynell smile with humor at the sight. “I see you're done signing the papers.” She said.
“Yep, along with the new names. Umbra is now Ichor, and Cos is now Nebul.” You bring your free hand over to Ichor, allowing him to wrap a tendril around your fingers. He stared at it for a moment, seeming to be thinking about something, before bringing your hand to his head and bumping it into your fingertips, silently asking you to pet him.
You felt your heart swell with affection at the action, and in the back of your mind you remember that Ichor can feel your emotions, and— wait is he vibrating.
     … fuck he’s purring.
You could cry right now. You can’t get over how cute they all are.
You’re brought back to reality by Rynell’s voice.
“Good names. Let me just check over the rest of these and you’ll be all set to go, so give me just a moment.”
You nod and hum. “Mhmm, thank you.”
You catch Redoul smirking out of the corner of your eye, and you send him a questioning look. He huffs, amused, and answers, “I’m Just Amused That He’s Settled So Quickly; I’ve Never Seen Ichor Act So… Docile , With Someone Other Than Us. He’s Always Been Rather Clingy, So It’s Nice To See That He Gets To Indulge In That Now.” By the time he was finished talking, his smirk had settled into something much softer.
You couldn’t help but feel your heart (your soul?) ache for your bitties. They have been through so, so much, and you can’t even imagine how they must feel now—to finally be free and reunited. You really, truly couldn’t imagine.
“…alright, everything has been checked and filed. Here is a copy of your papers for you to keep—I recommend putting those somewhere safe and easy to remember, so nothing happens to them. They will let anyone who reads them know that Ichor and Nebul are rescue bitties and are to be treated with respect, as well as let the reader know that they are your bitties, and are under your care. All of that is for—guess what— more legal reasons so that no one gets arrested… sigh, the fact that these “warnings” are even needed is ridiculous. But, I digress. If you ever need a vet that specializes in bitties, there is one right next door that we collaborate with for our rescues. Other than that, you’re all set to go!”
You smile and answer. “Thank you for everything , really. I was serious about my offer before, if you ever need help with something, please call me. I’d be happy to help.”
She laughed, and jokingly said, “Well, would you ever be interested in foster care? Probably not now , but…”
You laugh. Loudly . “Hah! No, I could never. I would get too attached and never give them back.”
The two of you laugh and wave goodbye as you walk towards the door, “Feel free to call me, even if it’s not related to your bitties, I’d love to keep in touch!” She says, just before you step out.
“I would love to, and thank you again! Bye!” And with that, the door closes.
     …
“…man, I cannot say just how lucky we got when you showed up. Geez… ” Rynell muttered.
     “Tell me ‘bout it.”
Rynell jumped at the new voice, and turned around to see her boss. “ Stars…! You startled me! How long have you been there?” She asked.
“Hm, ’ve been in the hall fr’ a while now. Takin’ a break from all the paperwork. We really ‘re lucky that girl showed up when she did, don’ know what we would’a done if she hadn’.” He lifted his arm and rubbed the back of his head, as if he was trying to alleviate a headache.
“Yeah, I was really worried when the team had found a Shattered Dream of all bitties in that place. I’m glad we were able to keep that away from the media, otherwise people would have gone crazy and who knows what kind of people would have come to try and adopt him.”
“Mh, nobody good, that’s fr’ sure. If someone were to come around an’ try to adopt one of our bitties just because they’re rare , I would’a kicked ‘em right out.”
“While I do agree with you, this is the reason why I work at the front desk and you don’t. You would kick anyone you don’t like out.”
“True. Though, I gotta ask, what was with the bitty that came with the girl? Never seen one like ‘em before. He was buddies with the other two, right? In the ring.”
“Oh, Redoul. Yeah, he was. And I don’t really know. I wanted to ask, but it felt rude, so I didn’t. Hopefully I’ll be able to at one point without making anyone uncomfortable…”
“Eh, whatever. It doesn’ matter as long as the girl is takin’ care of ‘em. If ya’ find out, let me know, ‘m curious, but don’ sweat over it.” He sighed loudly. “I gotta get back to work. I’ll see ya’ later.”
Rynell huffed a laugh. “See you later, Mr. Levat.”
     “Mhmm,”
Mr. Able Levat, the owner of the Great Lake Black Rescue Center. He was an odd man, one that Rynell didn’t really know much about, but what she did know was that he loved all kinds of creatures. From animals, to bitties, to even full grown people, he did everything he could to help them and find a good place for them. Most of the people that made up the team who actually went out to do rescuing were people from broken backgrounds of all kinds. Mr. Levat seemed to draw these people in like cats to catnip, and he’d end up taking them under his wing and help them set their lives straight again. He absolutely had no people skills and was unfairly good at doing paperwork, no matter how much he hated it.
Rynell was one of the few people who actually wasn’t from a horrible background. She ended up working for Mr. Levat 5 years back, when he randomly came up to her and asked her to man the front of his store—because apparently nobody in the center had any proper people skills and they desperately needed someone. It was a spontaneous decision when she agreed, but she never once truly regretted it.
They had been worried when Ichor had arrived at the rescue center, people would find out and flock to the place and try to “buy” him off of them. People like “bitty collectors”, who only wanted bitties for their rarity rather than companionship. Or worse, someone more official that would have the poor thing be researched on, so that they could find out why and what causes some Dream bitties “shatter” while others don’t.
It really was a miracle when you came in with Redoul.
Rynell was a good enough judge of character to know when someone was a good person and when someone would lie to her. She could tell you had only wanted the best when you asked if Ichor and Nebul were there. You were so nervous, and Redoul looked about ready to cry if she had said that they weren’t there.
“Now that Ichor is already adopted by someone he should be much safer… and he seemed pretty happy in her arms there, so I don’t think this could have turned out better.”
     “…aghhh, well. Back to work.”
Tumblr media
You make it out to the car and open the door, stepping inside and sitting down.
“Alright boys, go ahead and find a place to make yourselves comfortable—although I don’t recommend sitting up here,” you point to your dashboard, “if I have to speed up or slow down suddenly I don’t want you flying off my dashboard.” As you spoke, Redoul hopped off of your shoulder and down into his usual spot in the passenger seat, in the pile of blankets.
Redoul called out to the other two, “Come Sit With Me, This Is Where I’ll Usually Be For The Dive.” He said.
A second later and Nebul was already in the pile of blankets, laying face first in it. What did Redoul say that was… a shortcut?
“it’s so soooooft… i’m never leaving.” Nebul mumbled from the pile.
You and Redoul laugh. Ichor takes a moment to move, stepping away from your lap and into the pile with the other two. He settles, and once again laches his tendrils onto his packmates.
“Alright then,” You say as you buckle yourself in, “let’s get going.”
Tumblr media
Arriving at a bitty shop, you park your car and turn it off.
“Ok, we’ll try to make this quick. We will browse for a little while and see what we find, along with getting some essentials for you two, then we can head home.” You step out of the car and hold the door open for your bitties. Nebul shortcuts to your right shoulder, and Redoul was already on your left when you stepped out. Ichor pulled himself up into your arms and you cradled him in your left. With your free hand you shut the door and lock it.
You’ve only been to this shop a few times for Redoul, buying things for him occasionally when it was needed—or to buy him a gift, but that was rare.
You walk into the building and look around, viewing the familiar scene. The walls were a light cream color and there were various different aisles of things to buy. There was a desk up against one of the walls to your left, and beside it was a large glass wall with many different bitties behind it.
You quietly look away just before the woman behind the counter looks up. You walk away and grab a cart, gently placing Ichor on the top of it so that you could use both of your hands to push it. He kept a tendril around one of your arms as you pushed.
“We’ll head to the clothing aisles first, since we only really need to get some clothes for you two. I already have basically everything else we would need back home. After we pick out some clothes we can look around for anything that catches your eye, okay?”
      “Sounds good.” Ichor said.
Nebul only hummed, leaning further into your neck from where he sat on your shoulder.
The next few minutes pass with you strolling down the different aisles as your bitties point out the things they want. Nebul found a Outertale jacket that he absolutely fell in love with. It was blue and yellow, like most, but instead of the stripes going across the middle of the jacket they went across the bottom, and on the left side of it was an impressively small embroidered star. Most Outertale jackets had fluff lining both the hood and the bottom, but the one he found only had it lining the rather large hood, and the color of the fluff was a light shade of yellow instead of white. It was honestly a bit big on him, as you're pretty sure it was made for an Outerswap Papyrus, but it was the only one left and he insisted.
Ichor on the other hand seemed to gravitate towards some of the looser and more comfortable clothes they had to offer. He found a top that could be considered a long cardigan, with the way the bottom split open like one, but had a top that was closed like a normal shirt. The sleeves were in the style of bishop sleeves and were long enough to cover his wrists. A sewn-in band of cloth separated the two parts of the shirt(?) at the waist, and the neckline was a boatneck cut. He then picked out a pair of pants in a straight cut that stopped mid calf… or mid tibia? Each article of clothing was made of a thin, comfortable material.
They picked out more clothes than this, but those seemed to be their favorites. You learned how to sew a while back, and asked them if they wanted you to make any adjustments to anything they got, like make Nebul’s jacket fit slightly better, or make an opening for Ichors tendrils, but it seems that it wasn’t needed. Nebul was happy with the jacket being oversized (understandable), and Ichor’s tendrils could form on top of clothing when he wanted them to, so the opening wasn’t needed.
You had caught more than a few people staring at Ichor, which was something you expected to happen, given that Ichor is one of the rarest bitties out there, but it didn’t stop you from worrying about his comfort under all the staring.
He must have sensed your worry, as reached out another tendril to wrap around your arm.
“You don’t need to worry about me. While it may be unfortunate, I am quite used to the eyes of spectators being on me.” He said.
You sigh, looking down. “I know, I just wish they would… I don’t know, have more manners? I know your appearance is surprising, but they could at least not stare.”
He smiles at you sadly. “Perhaps, but unfortunately they still do, so I have no choice but to ignore them. It’s only in my benefit to do so.”
“you really don’t need to worry about us, them staring a little isn’t gonna kill our mood, so you shouldn’t let it kill yours either.” Nebul said from the shelf next to you, holding a light bluish-gray hoodie up to look at.
You let out a small laugh, smiling down at them. “Yeah I know, it’s just annoying that they just seem to have to do that. It’s kinda ridiculous.” You say sarcastically.
“It Is Kind Of Ridiculous How Much Some People Just Stare At Us. I Still Have People Staring At Me From Time To Time When They Notice That They Can’t Pinpoint What Kind Of Bitty I Am. If They Want To Know, Then They Should Just Ask! It’s Not Like I’ll Get My Feelings Hurt Over Someone Being Confused . It’s Not Exactly A Secret, Either.” Redoul scoffed at the thought. You had both decided a while ago to not bother with trying to hide his identity as a new bitty type, not seeing the point in it when it’s kind of obvious to anyone who pays attention.
“well, guess i got lucky on that part. i am, for the most part, just a normal bitty. i just happen to have a crack over my socket; nothing too surprising there.”
     “A Crack, And LV.”
     “that too.”
“Maybe so, but all three of us have that. Not to mention you have more cracks than Nebel does.”
“i guess that just makes us special~”
“I Don’t Think Special Is The Right Word.”
You felt yourself smile at their banter.
You’re so glad they’re back together again.

A Bitty Drabble Series
- || Chapter III -
< Previous || Masterlist || Next >
Tumblr media
- || Summary -
A series about you and your bitties.

I’m writing literally EVERYTHING as I go, so there is very little initial plot and won’t be a lot of drama, but I’m having fun so it doesn’t matter too much.
By the way… does anyone have any suggestions for what bitties should be introduced next? I’m stuck on who I want to introduce next after the last two of our initial trio is finally adopted. It would preferably be a Papyrus, but a pair of brothers or a Sans would work too. I just need ideas.
Tumblr media
You think that it’s safe to say that everything’s been going great.
The trio still hasn’t moved away from each other since you’ve gotten here, and don’t look like they plan to any time soon. They weren’t absolutely glued to each other like they were in the beginning anymore, but still stuck close together. The three of them have taken to sitting on one of the few pillows on the table to relax. Redoul was sitting upright with his legs crossed. Cos had decided to lay down and looked about ready to pass out from the way his sockets were drooping. Umbra ended up having two of his tendrils latched onto each of his companions and didn’t seem to have any intentions of letting go, something of which you found to be rather cute.
On another note, it seems that the other two have warmed up to you rather quickly, but you suspect that that may be because of you being Redoul’s mate. In their minds, they’re probably thinking that if Redoul trusts you and loves you enough to officially be your mate, then they have no reason to doubt you. You couldn’t help but be glad that they took to you so quickly.
Redoul had, at some point, insisted upon you coming closer to sit with them (or as much as you could, give you being fifty to a hundred times bigger than them), so you moved to leaning against the table next to the pillow on Redoul’s side, not wanting to invade the other two’s personal space.
Turns out Umbra was having none of that.
His remaining two tendrils stretched out (how far can those things go??) and latched onto your wrist, keeping you in place and eventually tugging you even closer. So close that you ended up practically hovering over them in a mildly uncomfortable position.
“Boys I literally can’t get any closer without squishing you, stop tugging!”
“No! You Are Too Far Away!”
     “I am right here!”
     “It’s Not Close Enough!”
      “I agree with him.”
“What do you expect me to do to fix this…?”
“i say you pick up the pillow and put us in your lap. then, you can sit down and everyone can be happy.”
“…all of you are impossible. Fine.”
You only heard snickers from the smallest in the group as you gently shifted the pillow into your arms and carried them to one of the nearby beanbags to sit down in. Once you were sat down and comfortable you spared them a flat look.
     “Happy?”
     …
“…did all three of you just tug on me?”
     “Yes.”— “Yes.” —“yes.”
“…I give up.” More snickers ensued, although this time it was from both Redoul and Cos—and you noticed that Umbra seemed to be holding a rather teasing smirk on his face.
But before anyone could say anything more a knock sounded on the door. A moment passed and the door gently opened.
“I apologize for interrupting, and I really am sorry, but you’re going to have to go soon,” Rynell’s head peaked through the open gap and looked at the four of you with an apologetic and even sad expression. “We have another appointment due soon and are going to need the room, not to mention the fact that you’re nearing the end of your appointed meeting time.”
You stare shocked at her for a moment before moving to look at the clock on the wall. 11:23. It’s almost been two hours.
“I… I didn’t even notice.” You say as you gently stand up, being careful with the passengers in your arms.
…you’re suddenly aware of the tight grip Umbra has on your arm. You look to the bitties in your arms.
Umbra’s tendrils cling to your arm, coiling around it even more. Even Cos had taken to clinging to your shirt, along with Redoul’s wrist.
Ah. They don’t want you to go.
You look at Redoul. He was looking down, and didn't make eye contact with anyone until—
“Enough You Two. We Are Not Leaving Forever. You Will See Us Again Soon Enough, So Let Go.” He spoke firmly.
A few seconds pass with nothing happening, before finally the two let go.
You stare at them for a moment before your eyes discreetly flicker over to your arm. You don’t think there will be any marks, but with how tight Umbra was holding you, you wouldn’t be surprised if there were some later.
     …
“…Rynell, when is the earliest I can make my next appointment?”
Tumblr media
You take your keys out from your purse and unlock the front door to your house. Stepping inside, you take off your shoes and put them on the shoe rack next to the door. With an impressive leap, Redoul jumps from your shoulder to the couch and lands easily. He then jumps to the floor and makes his way towards the kitchen with you following close behind.
You had been chatting idly with Redoul about how the meeting went when the two of you had made it home just in time for lunch. Neither of you stopped your conversation as you started to prepare food for yourselves.
“—I’m just glad they took to me so well. I have to admit, I was a little worried that they wouldn’t want anything to do with me when we met.”
“Don’t Be Ridiculous, Of Course They Would Take To You Well! You Are My Chosen Mate, Why Wouldn’t They?”
“I don’t know… I just thought that since you’ve all had such a bad history with humans, I guess I was expecting them to be a little more… guarded?” You grab a pot from its storage and place it in the sink to fill it with water. “I mean, you were like that when we first met! You didn’t want anything to do with me, and I’m sure if we hadn’t gotten snowed-in that day, you would have left…”
A few moments of silence pass, and you look over to Redoul, wondering why he’s so quiet. He had a look of confusion on his face as he was staring at you. He then looked off to the side and placed a hand to his chin with a look of contemplation, before it was replaced with one of realization.
“…I Never Told You.” He sounded oddly quiet.
“I… tell me what?” You ask in confusion.
“The Two Of Them, Cos And Umbra, They Are My Packmates.”
You blink. “I’m sorry? I don’t know what that means. Does that mean you’re… like, family?”
Redoul shook his head, “No, But Close. It Is… Difficult To Describe. Packmates Share A Bond That Is Similar To A Kind Of Family Soul Bond. It’s Like Family But… More. Like Most Soul Bonds, We Can Feel One Another’s Emotions—Albeit Not As Intensely As Our Bond, A Bond Of Chosen Mates. But, When… When We Were In The Ring All That We Had Was Each Other, And It Drew Us Closer. To Be Completely Honest With You, Had We Been… In A Different Environment, We Would Have Likely Been Chosen Mates. But In The Ring Things Like Chosen Mates Could Not Be Afforded, Lest You Suffer A Fate Worse Than Death When You Evenbly Lose Them.” He stood next to you on the counter and placed a hand on your arm.
“So you were… in love? Or is it something more vague than that?” You couldn’t help but question. You were still confused.
“Not Quite. Again, Had Things Been Under Different Circumstances, Then Perhaps. But Not Now.  After All That We’ve Been Through I Don’t Think We Could Ever See Each Other In That Kind Of Light. Our Very Souls Acknowledge One Another As Fellow Survivors And Familiar Faces. It Has Been Ingrained Into Us That We Can Never See Each Other As More Than That.”
You take a moment to think, trying to sort out your thoughts. “…I think I get it. I can’t really describe it either, but I think I get it.”
     Redoul nodded, looking satisfied.
“I’m Sure You Do. I Know You’re Smart, So I’m Sure You Understand On Some Level.”
“Okay then, if I am understanding this correctly, then the reason you said that it was essentially only natural for Cos and Umbra to have warmed up to me is because you’re… packmates, you said? And because they are your packmates, they trust your judgment more than their initial dislike towards humans, and thus saw me as a friend rather than foe?”
Redoul nodded, “Essentially,” He said, before pausing to think again.
“There Is… More To Being Packmates Than That, But I Think It Is Best We Discuss It After We Eat, As This Particular Topic Will Involve You—My Chosen Mate—Quite Heavily.” He seemed… apprehensive, at the notion.
“Oh, okay then.” You agree simply.
“Speaking Of Food, The Pot Is Overflowing.”
     “Ah—”
Tumblr media
With lunch finished and eaten, you and Redoul moved yourselves over to the couch to relax. You sat down and pulled up your knees, lounging against the armrest with a pillow behind you. Redoul would usually take to sitting across some part of you; sitting atop your knees, sitting against your propped up legs on your stomach, or in the crook of your neck… any spot he found comfortable, really. Today he had taken to sitting against your legs, seeming to want to face you for this conversation.
“So, what is it you wanted to talk about…?” You ask quietly.
“…” Redoul took a moment to think, his arms crossed as he leaned into your legs. “I… I Haven’t Told You This Because, With How This Will Impact You, I Was Worried That It Would Make You Uncomfortable… Or Worse, Scare You Off.”
You look at him confused. “I, I don’t understand. What would scare me off? Or make me uncomfortable?”
Redoul grunted, and looked conflicted. “I Was Going To Tell You This Eventually , But I Just Hadn’t Yet. And Then When We Found Out That They Were Alive I… Before, I Thought I Would Never See Them Again, So I Never Told You, Because I Was Never Ready And I…”
You didn’t understand what he was talking about, but you stayed silent. He looked like he needed to get this off of his chest, so you stayed silent.
Redoul then sighed loudly, “I’m Making Excuses…” He said.
You hum, “Whether or not they are excuses, it looks like you need to get a few things off of your chest, so I won’t interrupt. Keep going.” You take his hand in yours, “I’ll listen, I promise.”
He looked you in the eye and stared with his head tilted downward before he nodded and spoke, “Sigh… Well, I Was Going To Tell You This Eventually, But When We Found Out That Cos And Umbra Were Alive I, Well I Didn’t Even Have The Time To Tell You. Under More Ideal Circumstances, I Would Have, But Here We Are.” He took in one more breath before continuing. “In Packs, It Is Not Uncommon For One’s Chosen Mate To Develop Romantic Relationships With The Other Pack Members. In Fact, In Most Cases, It’s Almost Expected. So Now, The Other Two, On Some Level, May View You As A Potential Mate.”
Redoul continued, “Of Course, Nothing Is Set-In-Stone. You Have The Option To, Should You Choose To, Only Stay With Me, Or Be With Them As Well. I Was Hesitant To Tell You Because I Know That Many Humans Frown Upon Romantic Relationships With More Than Two Partners—And While I Didn’t Think You Would Have Had An Issue With That, I Know That This Would Potentially Be Stressful For You. Not To Mention The Fact That I Thought I Would Never See Those Two Again, Let Alone Think There Be A Chance For Them To Meet You… So I Never Brought It Up.”
…You didn’t know what to say, but you spoke anyway. “I… so, wh-what now? Am I… supposed to do something? I’m at a loss for words here…” Is your face getting hot?
“Well, I Suppose You Should Think About What You Want To Do From Here. I’ll Be Happy With Whatever Choice You Make In The End, Since You’re Already Mine. If It’s Them, I Wouldn’t Mind Sharing You—If That’s What You Want, Of Course.” He said, as if it was fact—which it was, of course, it just felt a little flustering with how he said it so confidently…
…Oh yeah your face is definitely getting hot.
“W-well, I suppose I wouldn’t mind whatever happens. You already know how I work, I’ll just see how their feelings develop for me and act from there—”
“If That Is The Case, Then Developing Romantic Feelings For You Is Only Inevitable For Them. As Packmates, When We Are Close Together, We Can Vaguely Feel Each Other’s Emotions—Disregarding Umbra’s Inherit Abilities As An Empath. If You Don’t Tell Them “No, I Do Not Want This,” Outright, Then Falling For You Will Only Be A Matter Of Time For Them. They Will Be Able To Feel My Own Affection And Love For You, And Will Be Affected By It. Umbra Especially. Emotions Don’t Usually Affect Him So Intensely, But Due To Our Bond, It Is Like Having An Open Flood Gate For Him. I Wouldn’t Be Surprised If He Was Already Starting To Develop Such Affections For You.”
You couldn’t help but think back to the way Umbra clung to your arm. Was that because…?
“I don’t… what would happen if I said that I only want to stay with you?”
“At This Point? Nothing Bad, I Assure You. It Would Simply Be Like A Barrier Has Been Placed Down; Preventing Them From Being Affected By My Love For You.” He shifted slightly. “If You Wait Too Long To Deny Them, However, It Could End Up Being Rather Painful For Them, Because They Would Have Already Started To… Well, Fall In Love With You.”
“Oh…” Was all you could bring yourself to say.
“You Don’t Need To Make That Decision Now, You Know. We Have Until Our Next Appointment… Though I Suppose It’s Not Too Much Time, Since It’s Tomorrow Afternoon, But My Point Stands. You Can Take Your Time To Think About It.”
Redoul moves to sit in the crook of your neck, nuzzling into you. You sigh and nuzzle back, “Well, you definitely springed this on me. There is no slow way to approach this, is there?” You ask.
“Not Really, No.” He answered. You sighed again.
You think for a while, mulling over your options. “I guess… I can give them a shot? You already said you’re okay with it, and I really have no reason to say no, so… yeah, I guess I’m doing this.” You finally say.
“You’re Sure? I Know That This Is A Lot To Take In, And It Won’t Be Easy To Go Back If You Don’t Like The Way Things Turn Out. You Will Break Their Hearts If You Do.” He asked gently.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure. It might take a little while to get used to, though.”
“And you aren’t doing this just because you pity them.” He didn’t bother stating it as a question.
“No, like I said before, you know how I work. If someone is interested in a relationship with me I won’t turn them down,” you nudge at him teasingly. “ You just happen to be the first person to make a move on me, and since you’ve already approved of this, I really have no reason to say no.”
He huffed, looking both proud and sheepish. “Are You Saying That You Would’ve Said Yes To A Date With Anyone Who Asked You Out? Were You Desperate?” He said sarcastically.
You laugh. “Before you, I would have said yes to anyone, so long as I didn’t hate them or was attracted to them. I wasn’t desperate, I was simply content with my life, and open to any developments that could have come. You , My Love, were one of the biggest and most unexpected developments I could have ever had in my life. But I could never say I’m not happy that it happened.” You nuzzled him again and kissed his cheek.
He scoffed and turned his head, moving to kiss you, “Kiss Me Properly, You Fool.” He said. You didn’t kiss like this often, due to your lips almost covering his whole face in a manner you find slightly awkward. But, for reasons you couldn’t understand, Redoul seemed to love it whenever you shared a ‘proper’ kiss, so you indulged him whenever he would ask for one.
The kiss ended, and as you pulled back you looked at your mates face. He looked nigh blissful as he sat there.
You truly couldn’t understand why he was so fond of your kisses, but you were flattered nonetheless.
Your voice pulled him out of his thoughts. “So, tomorrow. Do we mention this whole… potential mates thing , or…? I’m not a bitty nor a monster, so I’m unfamiliar with the customs you practice—obviously.”
His face was still a bit red from the kiss you shared as he answered. “Ah, Yes. It’s Whatever You Want, Really. Even If You Don’t Bring It Up, It Would Be Implied By Your Lack Of Mentioning It That You Are Not Turning Them Away, So They Would Understand Even If You Don’t Say Anything. Or If You Do Want To Discuss It, But Bringing It Up Makes You Uncomfortable, I Can Do It For You.”
You hum as you think, trying to decide what you want to do. “I’m not entirely sure… I will admit, talking about it does sound embarrassing for me, since I’m not familiar with these things, but I feel that it may be necessary for me at the very least, as I’m the only one who is unfamiliar with your traditions. I feel that if we don’t talk it out, I may miss something important. But…” You trail off.
Redoul let out a questioning hum as he waited for you finish. “Perhaps we should at least wait to mention it. You just got the chance to reunite with them, and all we’ve been doing since we got back was focus on how this will affect me. Let’s give this more time so that you can actually reconnect with them, rather than worry about me and my position in this, okay? We can get back to how I tie into all this after you’re all settled.”
Redoul blinked at your words, seeming to have forgotten that fact all together. “Very Well Then, But… If They Bring It Up, We Should Still Talk About It. Is That Alright With You?”
You nod in agreement. “Sounds good.”
Tumblr media
The next day, you're back at the rescue center for your next appointment.
You walk in and see Rynell behind the front desk once again, signing more papers.
“Are you here everyday? When do you ever get a break?” You ask with humor in your voice.
Rynell looks up at you, and smiles. “Oh, I live right next door, so really, I can come in whenever I want. My work at the front desk is something I actually rather enjoy, so I come in on most days of the week. I promise I do take days off, though.”
“Oh good, I was worried I would come in here one day and be faced with a stranger!”
“Ha! Unlikely, the only other person who works the front desk is my boss, and he’s usually in his office fighting the paperwork. Everyone else only wants to work with the animals and bitties.” She moved her hands to her mouse and clicked a few times before looking back to you. “There’s still a few minutes until your appointment, but you can go in early since there’s no one in there right now. After I bring in the other two, of course.”
“That would be great, but I think I’ll hang back here if that’s ok. Could Redoul go in while I stay here to talk to you?” You asked.
Redoul looked at you in surprise, and asked “What? Why?”
“I just need to talk to Rynell about a few things and ask a few questions. I don’t think I’ll be long but don’t be too surprised if I take a little while.” You reassure him gently. “And I promise that this isn’t about our conversation from yesterday.”
He stared at you for a moment, searching your expression, before answering. “Fine, Do As You Please.” He huffed.
You smiled and looked back at Rynell. “Good, is it alright if he’s with them without me?”
She nodded. “You can do that, yes, but you are required to check in on them periodically to make sure nothing happens, even if they already know each other. Roughly every 10 to 20 minutes. If you’d like, I can go back and get them and the three of them can be in there while you and I talk.”
     “Sounds perfect. Thank you.”
Tumblr media
You drop Redoul off in the meeting room you were in last time after Rynell gave you the go ahead to head back there. However, none of the bitties there seemed to be pleased that you wouldn’t be with them.
“What Do You Even Need To Talk To Her About?  Couldn’t It Wait For After The Appointment?”
“I am also curious as to what could be so important to where it makes you miss our appointment.”
“can’t it wait until after? you only have so much time here.”
…you would be lying if you said that you didn’t like the attention, but you had a good reason! And you wanted it to be a surprise!
“Guys, please. We have way more time today to spend together than yesterday. I will be back in, at the very most , 20 minutes. Besides, I need to talk to Rynell to make sure I haven’t accidentally been avoiding things like payments. She has already been so accommodating to us, and I don’t want to take advantage of that. I’ll be back as soon as I’m done, okay?”
…damn it. You make a really good point.
“ …Grrr… FINE! But You Come Back As Soon As You're Done, Alright!?” Redoul shouted angrily.
You smile at him softly. “Yes, I will.” You step out of the room and pause by the door, holding the handle. “I’ll see you as soon as I’m done.”
And with that you close the door.
     …
“damn, you really did pick a good one.”
Redoul crossed his arms. “ Scoff , of course she’s good , I would have nothing less.” He paused, “But… what makes you say that?”
Cos looked at him. “what, isn’t it obvious? her soul was practically singing her honesty, trying to let us know that she wasn’t lying, and she didn’t even realize it.” He then added on shyly, “not to mention she’s got a pretty smile.”
“Hm…? Of Course It Was. Ma Chère Hates Lying, And She Does Anything She Can To Avoid It.” He answered simply.
“Is that so? What an interesting woman. Tell us about her, I would Like to Know More.” Umbra shifted closer, wrapping a tendril around each of his Packmates.
Redoul looked at him with narrowed sockets. “…I Will Tell You Some Things, But If You Want To Know More About Her, You Will Ask Her Yourself.”
“I meant no harm when asking that, and I fully intend to, but I am curious, what is your opinion on her? Without the bias of her being your mate.” He asked curiously.
Redoul huffed with a small hint of red on his face. “There Would Be No Bias Even If She Wasn’t My Mate.”
      “Of course.”
Tumblr media
You and Rynell arrived back at the front desk and she took her place behind the counter. “So, I’m guessing you want to discuss adoption?” She said slyly as she laced her hands together and placed her chin on them.
You blink, and after a second laugh, slightly caught off guard. “Haha, you got me in one.” You smile, “Yes, I would. Although I wasn’t lying about the payment thing, have these appointments been costing us something and we haven’t been paying you? I would hate to go and not repay you for being so generous with our situation.”
Rynell shook her head, “No, the appointments haven’t cost you anything. The only thing you needed to do was sign those papers from before so that you would legally be allowed to have those appointments. Those papers are why people don’t have to pay. Adopting those two, however, is a different story.” She sifted through one of her drawers and pulled out a small stack of papers. “Go ahead and look through these, everything you need to know should be in here; it shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes.”
     “Wonderful, thank you.”
Tumblr media
“…and that should be it. All you need now is to ask them if they want to go with you.” Rynell said after checking over the papers. “It’s in our policy that when someone is interested in adopting a bitty or bitties, the bitty must agree on going with the new caretaker. Otherwise, the bitty will stay here until they find someone they want to stay with or enter foster care—whichever is more suitable for them. I doubt that the two of them would want to stay here, but I’ve already given you quite a bit of leeway in this whole process to make things go faster, so we need to keep following the smaller rules so that nobody gets in trouble.”
You smile and take the papers, skimming through them. “That’s just fine with me. I really can’t thank you enough for being so generous with us, really. If there’s anything I can do to help—so long as it’s in my power, haha—then please let me know and I’ll be happy to do so.”
Rynell laughed with a bright smile on her face. “Hahaha, I’ll keep that in mind! Although I don’t think I’ll need it, thank you anyway.”
After your small exchange, you excuse yourself and head back towards the meeting room.
     Time to surprise some bitties!

…did I mention that this is kind of a fast burn? I don’t think it is too fast, but idk. I’m not a big fan of slow burn unless it’s still like, 99% fluff… or maybe 85% fluff. (That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate a good slow burn every once in awhile, but I get a little tired of them after seeing so many)
I’m mostly doing this to actually get used to writing and hopefully develop a writing style, and then once that’s done, work on one or two bigger fanfictions that I have in store.
I’m actually really looking forward to working on my bigger projects, but I have no one to help me with them, so I want to take things slow and build up a bit more of a comfortable foundation for my writing before taking on anything bigger than this. I’m using this story as kind of a way for me to challenge myself and see what I can do without a lot of initial planning. As this is the first story I’ve ever posted, I thought that something like the Bittybones AU would be a good place to start easy and work my way up from there.

A Bitty Drabble Series
- || Chapter II -
< Previous || Masterlist || Next >
Tumblr media
- || Summary -
A series about you and your bitties.
You stand hesitantly in front of the rescue center’s doors, staring absentmindedly at the sign above it. Redoul wasn’t doing much better, sitting on your shoulder with a blank face, looking lost. You knew this was hitting him hard; he was afraid to hope. Afraid to hope to see his friends, the people he had walked through hell together with, and the people who set him free from it.
What if they weren’t there? What if it wasn’t the ring he was in? What if—
What if they didn’t make it?
You never met them. You never knew them. But what you did know was that these people were so, so important to your mate, and you couldn’t help but be afraid of what it would do to him if they weren’t there. You loved him so much, and you didn’t want him to hurt any more than he already had, but you couldn’t avoid this. You had to do this.
Clenching your teeth, you take in a breath and pull the door open.
You're scared. He is too. More so than you.
The atmosphere you’re greeted with is warm and welcoming—it soothes you, even if only slightly.
The walls are colored with a dark, warm maroon. It wasn’t the color you were expecting, but it somehow fit. At the front desk sat a woman with curly brown hair and thin gold wire frame glasses. A small red jewel hangs down from a chain next to her left lens. The woman’s hair was held up with a hair clip, with her bangs out framing her face. Resting on her face was a small, relaxed smile.
She looked up at the sound of the door, and her smile widened as her eyes landed on you and your mate.
“Hello and welcome to the Great Lake Black Rescue Center. My name’s Rynell, is there something I can help you with?” Her words were obviously practiced and repeated often, but something about her posture, or perhaps her smile, eased some of the tension out of your shoulders.
“Yes, um,” you clear your throat, trying to find your words. “I saw a news article about a bitty ring being broken up… and I’m wondering if you received any of the rescues from there. I’m—well, we are looking for… well, my bitty—Redoul’s—old friends.” You gesture to Redoul on your shoulder with your hand. At your movement he looks up from the floor and at the woman—Rynell—behind the desk. He doesn’t speak. His silence concerns you slightly, but you can understand his lack of words.
You couldn’t help but notice the tremble in his hands.
Rynell’s smile drops into a pitying look as she hears your words, before smiling again and nodding.
“We have actually received most of the recuses from the ring just two days ago. We didn’t have enough room for all of them, so the ones that we couldn’t take in were sent to one of the other nearby centers; if your friends aren’t here, they would likely be there. Could you tell me who you’re looking for?” She moves her hands to her mouse and keyboard, quickly clicking through something before looking back to you and Redoul.
You glance at Redoul, seeing if he wanted to speak, but he made no move to do so. Instead he looked back to the floor.
‘This is really getting to him…’ you thought worriedly.
You take in another breath and look back to the woman behind the counter, nodding. “Yes. We’re looking for two bitties in particular; one is an Outertale Sans bitty called Cos. Redoul says that he had a rather large gash over his left—wait no—his right socket, and that socket’s eyelight was extinguished. The other is… well, a Shattered Dream bitty. I don’t think you need much of a description for him. They called him Umbra.”
You saw a brief look of surprise pass over her face at your descriptions of them, before it settled as she nodded. “I know exactly who you’re talking about. They’re both here and in about as good of health as they could be at this point in time.”
Redoul’s head shot up at her words.
“THEY’RE HERE!?” He exclaimed loudly. You flinch slightly at the volume in your ear, but make no comment.
Rynell smiled at the bitty, before looking away with a compliment look. “Yes, they are. Um, hmmm… well, usually, when someone comes in to see a rescue bitty they need to file an appointment before getting the chance to see them—not to mention the fact that rescue bitties aren’t supposed to have any visitors until either a week to a month has passed, to give them time to recuperate and settle from the change in environment. But…” she glanced at Redoul. “There can be exceptions, like in the case of a missing bitty reuniting with an owner or family member… excuse me for asking—this is very unprofessional of me—but would you have happened to have been from the same ring?”
Redoul straightened slightly, looking her in the eyes. “…I Am. Back Then, I Was Called Roi. I Decided To Leave That Name With The Ring When I Got Away.”
Rynell stared at him for a moment, her expression vague, before she huffed a laugh and straightened herself, smiling once again. “Alright, I’ve made up my mind. The rescues have only been here for two days now, and usually you would have to wait at least a week before you could meet anyone, but I can make it to where you can see them tomorrow; I would let you in today, but unfortunately there are certain paperwork I need to fill out for a rescue to have a visitor before anything else—least someone get arrested—and the soonest that I can get that paperwork and then fill it out is tonight. Anything you would need to sign can wait until tomorrow. Does that work for you, or do you need more time? Either for work or other personal reasons.”
You and Redoul stare shocked at her.
      ‘She—she’s an angel!!!’
You step forward. “That would be perfect! Thank you so, so much! What time should we be here tomorrow?”
“The earliest I can get you in is 9:30 in the morning—although I recommend getting here by 9 o’clock , so that you have some time to read through and sign the paperwork.” She reached over and pulled out a business card from her desk, before flipping it over and scrawling a phone number across an open space. She then hands it to you. “On the front is the number to the front desk, and the one I just wrote down was my personal number. What I’m doing with getting you an early meeting isn’t necessarily illegal, but it is certainly bending the rules, so it’s best to just keep this between us for now, okay? And don’t worry about me, I’ll be letting my boss know about this—where do you think I need to get the papers from?”
“I really can’t thank you enough,” you take the card from her. “I’ll make sure to call you if we need anything. Um, should I give you my number just in case you need to let us know of anything?” You ask as you look at her.
She hums slightly, before grabbing a sticky note and a pen from her desk. “Probably a good idea, do you want to tell me or do you just want to write it down yourself?”
The two of you talk for a bit longer, with Redoul chiming in every once in a while, much to your joy. After a few minutes of conversation you eventually finalize the rest of the details that needed to be discussed in the moment.
Before you knew it, you found yourself making your way back to your car, ready to drive home and rest for tomorrow.
You take your place in the driver's seat and simply sit there for a moment, processing everything that had just happened. Redoul had a pile of blankets in the passenger’s seat he would stay in whenever you were driving.
He sat there looking as dazed as you felt—if not more so.
“They’re alive…” Redoul muttered, his usual volume and strength absent from his voice. He began to shake, and buried his face in his hands. “They’re Alive…!”
You felt your eyes water as you looked at your trembling mate, feeling a cacophony of both your and his emotions from across your bond with him. With a shaky breath, you reach over and pick him up, cradling him gently against your chest. He continued to tremble in your hold, clinging to your shirt and pressing himself into you.
“Ma Chère… I’m—I’m So Happy. They’re Alive, And I’ll Get To See Them Tomorrow! I… I’m Just So…” he buried his face into your neck, not bothering to finish his words.
“I know, my love, I know. I couldn’t tell you how relieved I was when she said they were there and alive . I’m so happy for you, Redoul.” You covered his back with your hand as he clung to you.
     You can’t wait for tomorrow.
Tumblr media
You felt giddy as you drove to the rescue center the next day. Redoul was in his spot in the passenger seat, looking about ready to vibrate right out of it with how jittery he looked.
He clasped his hands together and wrung his phalanges—a nervous habit he’s had for a while now.
“Ma Chère… Do You Think They Will Be Glad To See Me?” He asked quietly.
You weren’t sure how to answer. “Well,” you start. “I can’t say for certain. I haven’t met them personally, so I’m not completely sure, but I’d like to think so. From what you’ve told me, it sounds like they really cared about you—or as much as they could afford to, given the environment you were in. They risked their own safety, and likely their lives, to get you out despite the dangers. If I were to take a guess, then I’d say they will be very glad to see you.”
He didn’t respond, but you could tell he relaxed a little at your words. After a few seconds he hummed and nodded. “Hm. Thank you, Ma Chère.” He said.
     “Of course.”
Tumblr media
You park in an empty spot in the parking lot of the rescue center. 8:58. Perfect.
With a breath, you unbuckle and step out of your car with Redoul now in his usual spot on your shoulder. You walk towards the doors and pull one open, stepping inside.
At the desk sat Rynell. She seemed to be filtering through some papers when she heard the door open. She looked up and saw you, glanced at the clock, and smiled.
“Right on time, and welcome back. Since I already know what you’re here for, we'll skip over the rest of the pleasantries,” she pulled some papers off of her desk along with a pen and presented them to you. “Here are the papers you need to sign. You can take them over to that table over there and fill them out. Let me know if you need anything, alright?”
“I literally think you are the best person in the world right now, thank you.” You say with a hint of playfulness in your tone. She laughed goodnaturedly and thanked you before you went and sat down to fill out the paperwork.
Tumblr media
      *Bonk*
Rynell looked up from her desk at the sound. You were laying face first on the table.
     “My wrist hurts.”
“Ma Chère, Get Up. You Need To Finish Filling Out The Paperwork.”
You grone and sit up, looking back at the papers. “Why is there so much??”
You hear Rynell laugh. “That's so that no one has to get arrested. Bitties aren’t your average… pet,” you couldn't help but notice how she hesitated to use the word ‘pet’. “and need the extra work to get to so that no one can try anything unsavory with these already abused individuals. The paperwork is just there so that neither you nor I have to get arrested for something unfounded.”
“I understand that, I really do, but it’s still a lot of work.”
     “Tell me about it.”
“Oh yeah. You probably do this a lot, don’t you?”
“Kind of,” as if to prove her point, she shuffles through more papers. “It’s not like it’s every day we receive the survivors of a fighting ring—this is only the second time we’ve received them from a bitty ring, actually—but when it does happen, the load of paperwork feels ridiculous, even if it is necessary.”
You hum thoughtfully as you continue to fill out more papers. “I can imagine. It really is unfortunate that things like fighting rings are even a thing.”
     “True is that.”
Tumblr media
“Okay, I think I’m done.” You say as you hand the papers over to Rynell. “Hopefully I didn’t miss anything…?”
A minute or two passes as she looks through the papers in her hands.
“Everything seems to be good!” She smiles and stands up, walking around to the front of the desk.
      Wow she’s really tall—
“Now, usually after someone fills out the paperwork they aren’t due for their meeting with the bitty or bitties until the next day—due to more legal reasons—but we can skip over that step since I already have the green light from my boss, so we can either head back there now or you can schedule for another time—”
“We Would Like To Head Back There Now, Thank You.” Redoul interrupted.
You glanced at Redoul, and placed a hand on him. “Calm down Redoul, we’ll go see them. I promise.” You look back to Rynell. “Sorry about that… Yes, we would like to go see them.”
She seemed to take the interruption in stride, and continued on with her explanation. “Alright then. I’ll head back first and get everything ready, along with letting the other two know that you’ll be heading back there soon.” She filed the papers away in one of her drawers and started to walk towards the hall on the right hand of the room, before pausing and looking back to Redoul.
“By the way, the other two seemed very happy to know that you’re doing okay, and looked pretty excited when I said that you’d be coming to visit yesterday. Just wait a bit longer and I’ll come back to get you when I have everything ready.” With that, she turned and walked down the hall.
You blinked at her words, before smiling.
‘Yeah, she’s a pretty damn good person.’
Redoul looked surprised for a moment, before straightening up and laughing. “I Like Her.”
You laugh with him. “I was just thinking the same thing.”
A few moments of silence passed between the two of you before you spoke up.
     “…You’ve seemed to have relaxed.”
He sighed, leaning into the side of your head. “I Suppose. I Am… Unsure Of What To Feel At The Moment.” He confessed.
You gently took his hand in yours and brought it to your lips, kissing it softly. “I can understand, but if I may say; you’ve been handling all of this remarkably well. I’m proud of you.”
He flushed scarlet red—redder than his own scarf—and turned away from you. “Of Course You’re Proud! I Would Do Nothing Less Than The Best!”
…You couldn’t help but notice his eyelights. You always did love them, and they looked especially striking when he was blushing. Instead of just one color that most bitties had, Redoul had blue eyelights ringed in purple.
He huffed and smiled a little. He muttered “Thank you… for being here with me.”
You felt your own smile widen. “Of course. Where else would I be, if not with you?” You nuzzled him gently.
“Obviously! The Best Place For Anyone To Be Is At My Side, Then They Would Get To Bask In My Marvelous Presence!” He nuzzled you back. “But… I Do Believe The Only One I Want By My Side Is You.”
You hum. “I love you.” You whisper quietly.
You don’t think his expression could get any softer. “And I You, Ma Chère.”
Tumblr media
“Alright. Everything is ready and the two are waiting in the meeting room for you. If you’ll please follow me I will take you back there now.” Rynell said as she emerged from the hall once again.
You look too Redoul, searching his expression. He took in a deep breath and sighed, before straightening up and nodding. “Yes, Let’s Go.”
“Just follow me.” She turned back and started to walk down the hall again, this time with you behind her.
Soon enough, you stop in front of a door made of a dark colored wood.
“They’re right in here. Would you like me to stay with you, or would you prefer it if I stayed out here?” She asked, looking not to you, but to Redoul.
He blinked, thinking for a moment, before answering. “Stay Out Here Please, I’d Like To See Them Without An Audience.”
You looked at him again. “Should I…?”
     “No. You Go With Me.”
     “Okay, shall we?”
     “Yes.”
Rynell smiled, and stepped forward. “Allow me.” She pushed the door open and stepped to the side, making room for you. “Let me know if you need anything, alright? I’ll be right outside the door.”
     “Thank you.” You say.
“Of course.” With that, she closed the door behind you.
You look around the room. It was rather spacious, with four chairs lined across one of the walls, and across them being some sort of structure that looked similar to an elaborate cat tree. Just more bitty friendly. Below the structure was a table at about waist height with smaller chairs, beanbags, and other furniture made for various bitty sizes. There were also normal sized cushions and one or two beanbags for people to sit on on the floor.
…And on the table sat two bitties; one was an Outertale bitty lounging in one of the bitty sized beanbags, and the other was a Shattered Dream bitty sitting in one of the many bitty chairs at a miniature coffee table.
     …
They looked relaxed at first glance, but you knew better. Redoul would take that kind of posture when he was stressed, or having a bad day… it was how he stood when you first met him. Guarded and tense, but disguised as relaxed and confident.
Nobody moved at first, but after a moment you moved to the table and leaned into it with the side of your body that Redoul was on. He hesitated for a moment more, before jumping off and landing on the table. Once he was on the table you moved away to go sit in one of the chairs on the other side of the room—in the one the farthest away from them.
     Nobody spoke, nobody moved.
     Until—
“—roi! you’re okay!” A smaller body rammed into Redoul’s, knocking him back far enough to where he almost fell over.
Redoul caught the other bitty easily enough and righted himself, before shouting back. “I Should Be Saying That, You Fool!!! How The Hell Are You Still Alive!?”
The last bitty got up and joined the other two in a hug, wrapping the four black tendrils on his back around them. He nuzzled . “It’s good to see that you are in good health, Roi.” He lifted his head and locked eyes—er… eye? with you, making you blink in mild surprise. “I assume that would be in thanks to the lady who you came in with?”
Redoul huffed and pulled back slightly, although not enough to break his hold of the other two bitties. “First Of All, My Name Is No Longer Roi; It’s Redoul. I Left That Name With The Ring. Second Of All,” He looks at you flatly. “Ma Chère, Come Here, Would You?”
With a small laugh, you stand and approach the reunited trio slowly, making sure your hands are visible to the still-skittish newcomers. You stop a few feet away from them and lean against the table, making sure they’re still out of your reach.
The shorter one—Cos—finally pulled his head away from where it was tucked into Redoul’s chest and regarded you with an analytical expression; just as Umbra—the Shattered Dream—has been.
You introduce yourself softly, but before you get to say any more than that, Redoul interrupts you.
     “She Is My Mate.”
     …
     “…what?”—“What?”
“…I feel you could have broken that to them more gently.” You say, bemused.
“That Was Simply The Most Efficient Way To Do It, What Were You Expecting Me To Do?”
“I don’t know, but it wasn’t that. Maybe talk to them more before introducing me? We’re not here for me, Love.”
“Why Wouldn’t I Want To Introduce My Marvelous Mate? Clearly You Do Not Know Me.”
“Oh yes, because we’re complete strangers. Totally. Mhmm.”
      “Clearly.”
     …
“*snirk…* pfft…haha… hahahahahaha!! what the hell? i didn’t know you had it in you, roi—no, sorry, redoul —but seriously, a human? wow. good job landing a pretty one, too.” Cos snarked with a sly smile; his sarcasm didn’t seem to be directed at you, thankfully, but more at Redoul to tease him.
…Umbra’s expression changed from analytical to something more… content? Satisfied?
“So that’s what I was feeling. It was your bond with her.” He looked back to Redoul with a firm nod and a smirk. “…You made a good choice.” …something told you that he was also teasing your mate.
Redoul’s eye socket twitched, and his face was steadily getting redder. “…You Bastards.”

A Bitty Drabble Series
- || Chapter I -

Tumblr media
- || Summary -
A series about you and your bitties.
Sunlight shone through your windows, sending soft rays across your sleeping form. The chirps and whistles of birds ring through the air, announcing the arrival of the sun to any and all who are listening…
“…Ma Chère, It Is Time To Get Up.” You heard a deep but soft voice speak from above you, a small hand placing itself on your forehead, brushing away any stray hairs that may have been there.
“Mmmh… good morning, Redoul.” You muttered out tiredly, your eyes blinking open slowly.
In front of you was a bitty, standing atop one of your pillows. He looked like some of the Sans bitties of the Fellswap AUs, but didn’t look quite like any one of them exactly. He stood at about 9”, a rather tall height for a Sans bitty, and wore a long dark scarlet scarf that nearly reached his feet. The scarf was filled with tatters, and the ends looked almost washed out, but the scarf was well taken care of and clearly loved.
This was Redoul, your bitty, and you weren’t quite sure what kind of bitty he was.
You see, there are many different kinds of bitties.
From the original bitties, the Undertale Brothers, to things like the lamia bitties, which are from all different kinds of AUs. Ah—speaking of AUs, the Alternative Universes, or AUs, was how the company and its customers would refer to the different branches of bitties.
The bitties could either be artificially made, which was how they were originally made—to naturally made, between two bitty parents.
Oh, and um, bitties don’t, y’know, reproduce the same way that humans and monsters do. Bitties reproduce by manually combining their magic into making a new bitty soul. Since bitties are already artificially made, it’s rather easy for them to use their magic in this way to do this. One of the parents would house the still growing soul inside their body until the soul was strong enough to form itself a body with its magic. Both parents would need to stay near each other for the still growing soul to absorb its parents’ magic, at least until it can start using its own magic. Although, in the case of Lamias, the soul will stay inside of an egg, instead of the body of one of its parents.
(…The whole process of bitty reproduction is honestly more complicated than this, so this is mostly just a summarization, but you digress.)
Usually, no matter the type of bitty the parents were or what AU they were from, the child or children would end up being more or less a copy of either one parent or the other. The bitties’ genes were not made to mix, so that when a baby was born they would already be a part of one AU or another.
However, sometimes odd things would happen when two bitties had children together.
These “odd things” were how the Swapfell AU was made…
…Then the Fellswap AU… To then the Fellswap Gold AU… which then had made the company rename the last two Fellswap AUs to Fellswap Violet and Fellswap Red respectively…
…For whatever reason, it seemed that when an Underswap bitty and an Underfell bitty had children together, there was a very, very small chance of their genes mixing and accidentally making a whole new branch of bitty.
This is what happened to Redoul, who was born as a “new” Fell type. But even then, he was considered an oddity among the already “odd things.”
Born to a Baby Blue and a Mamba (Mambas being the Fellswap Sans of the lamia bittys), Redoul was soon found to be a completely new type of “odd thing” that hadn’t been seen before. The odd things that would usually happen had only ever occurred when an Underswap bitty and an Underfell bitty had children together. Never before had the odd thing happened outside of a pairing between those two AUs—of course, an Underswap bitty was still involved, but apparently that didn’t matter, since the other parent wasn’t an Underfell bitty. So when Redoul was born he was an entirely new case of odd things.
He was neither an Underswap bitty or a Lamia bitty of any kind. He looked like a standard skeleton bitty—likely the Sans of his newly made branch. Which is unsurprising, considering his parents were the Sans’ of their respective AUs.
What was especially odd, though, was the fact that, despite not being a Lamia, he had still inherited his Lamia parent’s venom. So he was a “normal” bitty with a venomous bite.
…Unfortunately for Redoul, the owner of the bitty store he was born in had connections to a more than unsavory organization…
…A fighting ring, and one that specialized in showcasing their bitty “members” .
…And so, he was sold to a bitty ring soon after he was born; all for being a new branch of bitty—a one of a kind “item”…
     “Ma Chère.”
Your thoughts stop in their tracks, and you look back to Redoul—your mate.
     “Yes?” You ask softly.
“…” He stared at you silently, knowing exactly what you were thinking just now. “…Stop That Train Of Thought. You Don’t Need To Upset Yourself So Early In The Morning—Or Ever, For That Matter. Now, It’s Time To Get Up. You Need To Get Ready For The Day, And I Will Not Be Having You Lazing About In Your Bed All Day!”
You laugh softly, watching as he moves from your pillow to your nightstand with a familiar ease, going to where he keeps his clothes to get dressed. You move to sit and stand up and begin to follow your mate’s lead, sparing a glance out the window to look at the rising sun peaking through the trees. The light bathed the room in a warm glow, soaking into your skin and shaking off any daze left over from your sleep. With a stretch and one final yawn, you make your way towards your closest to change out of your night clothes.
Tumblr media
You softly hum a song, one you can’t remember the name of, as you prepare breakfast with Redoul, focusing on the pancakes cooking on the skillet in front of you. Some of the pancakes were made significantly smaller for your little mate. Of course, they were still comically large in comparison to him, but bitties needed to eat quite a lot despite their small size, so the prepositions were about right.
Redoul was working on making some scrambled eggs for the two of you in a small pan—a pan that was honestly too big for someone his size to use reasonably, but both of you were quite used to this routine and his skill in your kitchen has vastly improved ever since you first started cooking together… not to mention the fact that he was very strong even without his magic, and was easily able to move many objects several times his weight without breaking a sweat, so the size of the pan wasn’t much of an obstacle in that aspect.
Flipping the last of the pancakes, you grab two cups to pour yourself and Redoul a drink to go with your breakfast—with one of the cups being appropriately sized for your bitty mate. Filling them with your drinks you set them on the table and quickly return to your pancakes, checking them to see if they’re ready.
Seeing that they would need a few more minutes until they are done, you leave them be and set down your spatula. At your side, Redoul appears with the pan of scrambled eggs and carefully disburses the appropriate amount of eggs onto your respective plates.
“Thank you, love.” You say as he places the pan back on the stove, off of the still hot burner to let it cool before either of you would put it in the sink.
He swiftly walked around the skillet to stand near the fridge, turning back to face you, and spoke. “Do Not Waste Your Thanks, Something As Simple As Making Eggs Is Nothing I Cannot Handle—Now, If You Would Open The Fridge For Me, I Need To Get The Berries.” He waited with his hands on his hips; he tried to brush it off, but you could see a small twinge of crimson decorating his cheekbones. Praise and thanks have long since been a weakness of his that he refused to acknowledge and often denied, but you could still see the effects it had on him.
With a small hum you lean forward and kiss him gently on his skull, then move to open the fridge for him.
“There you are, and if you’d like, you could get the lemons out for me to cut and I could make us some lemon water.” You say, watching as the crimson on his face grows deeper in color—and if your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you, you’re pretty sure you just saw his brow twitch.
Holding back a giggle, you watch as he twitches once again, likely trying to fight back his blush.
“THANK YOU.” He jumps down onto the floor and climbs into the fridge, opening the drawer where the berries are.
Swallowing your laugh back down your throat, you turn to your pancakes and pull them off the skillet. He always gets loud when he’s flustered.
      ‘He’s so cute~’
     “I AM NOT!”
“Oh I said that out loud.”
He growled. “Yes. Yes You Did…”
“Well, if I’m going to be saying things out loud,” you place your last pancake down onto your plate, “I guess I should just say that I love you. So. I love you, Redoul.”
“…I Love You Too, Ma Chère.”
Tumblr media
You walk around town with Redoul on your shoulder, the two of you enjoying the nice weather. You chat idly with your mate, all but wandering around the little town as you converse and look around.
You have been to almost every corner and alley that the town had to offer on your little outings with Redoul—although, to be honest your “outings” with him were all but your thinly disguised dates. Unfortunately, most people still didn’t acknowledge bitties as actual people, so openly going on dates with him were going to be off of the table until further notice, if only for your own comfort in public.
But it’s not like you’ve hid it from everyone in town. One of… or, more like the only person in town who knew of your relationship with Redoul was Allira, your best friend. Who not only knew of it, but actively supported it.
…In fact, she was the first person you went to when you had started to gain feelings for him. You needed someone to vent to, to get your thoughts and feelings out, and to essentially hang up your heart to air out—to give it a break.
It was at a time before either you or Redoul had confessed to each other, when you had started to suspect his feelings for you. You have always been rather perceptive; picking up on the little details and having the ability to put the pieces together and figure out an answer or a possibility. So when Redoul started acting differently than from how he did before set off flags in your brain.
It honestly didn’t take you long to become nearly certain that he had romantic feelings for you. With the red (very red) faces, roundabout helpfulness and affection of a rather tsundere attitude, and an overall gentleness that just wasn’t there before, it wasn’t hard for you to figure it out.
Of course, you were still nervous— concerned . When you had started to piece things together, your feelings for him weren’t actually that strong at the time. You were fond of him and cared for him dearly, but you harbored hardly any actual romantic feelings for him—if any at all.
It almost scared you. You didn’t want to hurt him, he had already been through so much, and you didn’t want to be the one to add heartbreak onto the long list of unfortunate things that had happened to him.
And so, you took refuge at Allira’s little flower shop for a few hours, and vented out all of your fears and feelings to her.
She had listened silently to your worries, standing behind the counter as you sat at one of the tables she had in case someone just wanted to enjoy the scenery of her shop—of course, you hadn’t been doing much enjoying.
You felt childish, thinking back on it, and any time it was brought up in conversation between you and her, the two of you would laugh. In the end, after all of your ranting and venting, she didn’t even need to give you any advice or an answer. Because you had come to your own answer.
You decided you were going to give him a chance, and see if you could cultivate your own feelings into something more for him.
Turns out that was the best decision of your life.
You were still grateful to her, even if all she did was listen and watch you verbally sort out your thoughts, feelings, and options. The fact that she listed at all was immensely helpful to you.
Tumblr media
You continued to walk down the street with Redoul on your shoulder, enjoying the warm weather now that winter had passed. You walked by a sign board with various pieces of paper posted to it; some random posters, one or two missing pet signs (how sad, you hope they find their way back home), one random piece of paper with various handwritten jokes on it, a newspaper article—
You stop in your tracks, and nearly stop breathing as you see one of the headlines.
“Ma Chère? Are You Alright?” You hear Redoul speak from your shoulder, and vaguely feel him tug on your hair. You shake yourself from your surprise and turn your head to face Redoul, gently cupping your hand around him.
     “Redoul… the article…”
Breaking News! Bitty Fighting Ring is Broken Up Near the Great Lake Black!
Redoul looks just as shocked as you are as he stares at the paper, with something almost… hopeful… showing in his expression.
“Do You Think…?” He couldn’t even finish his sentence, his words trailing off as his grip on you tightened just barely.
Tumblr media
Redoul had escaped from a bitty ring just under a year and a half ago. When you had first met him—on the first snow of an early winter—he had only been free from it all for two days, before he finally collapsed on the road in front of you while you were driving. Bitties need affection to survive. That was part of their charm as “pets” , and if they went too long without it, they would get sick and eventually die if they didn’t get the affection they needed in time. Redoul told you that even in the rings the bitties only received a limited amount of affection, and would usually be paired with another bitty they got along with to sustain themselves. But even then, bitties can only sustain themselves on each other for so long before it’s not enough; only bitties who fought well got to reap the rewards and live another day.
Redoul was one of the three most popular bitties in the ring, due to him being a new unspecified fell type, and his venomous bite. Ever since he got there he had been brutal and lethal from the very start, fighting to survive for almost as long as he could remember.
There are times, every once in a while, where Redoul would tell you about the other two bitties that held the spotlight with him. He had been paired with them to keep each other up and running. He got along with them, but he hadn’t called them his friends, or not at first at least. Making friends was something considered almost taboo among the rings, as you never know whether or not you or the other person make it out of your next fight, or worse be paired against each other in a fight. Making friends just wasn’t worth it; it’d kill you more than an actual death would if, or really when, you lost them. Redoul hadn’t called them his friends until well into being under your care.
One of these two bitties was his cellmate, an Outertale Sans that had somehow made a bit of a name for himself. He was called Cos—short for Cosmic—and apparently, according to Redoul, Outertale bitties often didn’t make it far in the rings due to their more docile nature, unlike any of their more violent fell variants, like Fellswap or just Underfell in general, who were naturally more prone to violence and could (usually) go longer periods of time without needing affection. Outertale bitties were one of the more cuddly AUs, for reasons no one really knew, and tended to need more affection as a result. The fact that Cos lasted so long and could fight so well made him one of the favorites of the ring, next to Redoul and their cell’s neighbor.
Umbra was the name of his neighbor, and he was, as Redoul had told you, an extremely rare case—rarer than even his own. Umbra was known as the star of the ring, the main attraction, and the most popular bitty out of all of them. And it was, unfortunately, for good reason. That was something both you and Redoul agreed on.
Umbra was originally a Dream bitty; one of the most docile bitties on the market, and were notoriously known for being extreme pacifists.
Umbra—whose name was originally Sun, apparently—had been bought by the head of the ring to be a part of what was supposed to be a brutality show. As Redoul told you, a brutality show was when they would take a weak bitty and pair it up in a fight with someone or something much stronger than them; the fights would often lead to the bitty being practically torn apart in the fight, with the odds always being extremely unfair. Usually when a bitty is brought in they are usually paired with other bitties on their level so that they actually have a chance. But that wasn’t always the case. Sometimes, all the audience wanted to see was a show. Hence the brutality shows.
Umbra, or Sun, had been paired up against a rather large and very hostile cat, one that was known for starring in brutality shows. However, when the cat was released from its cage and went to attack— He snapped .
The only way he could describe it, Redoul said, was like passing out for a few seconds. Everything had gone dark, and nobody, not even the audience, could see or hear anything. Then, a few seconds later, the darkness faded, and the audience was shouting in alarm, and all that was left was a dead cat and an unrecognizable bitty covered in black.
The dream had shattered in fear and absolute hopelessness, and all that was left was a shadow.
     A shadow that merely wept.
Redoul didn’t like talking about Umbra’s… introduction , and you only ever heard the story once. You can understand why.
Tumblr media
“I—do you think… that they found it…?” Redoul stuttered out, his voice uncharacteristically quite.
Roughly a year ago, just as the winter ended, you had went to the nearest police station and informed them of Redoul and his background in the ring; you weren’t able to do it sooner, because you had been focusing on healing your new charge and preparing for an unexpected winter—which proved to have been a wise decision, as you had gotten snowed into your house just over a week later. You had been laminating your luck at the time, since you had gotten stuck with a very hostile and very abused bitty that had a very lethal bite and was very not afraid to use it .
…even if it was one of your most beloved winters you’ve spent thus far.
Either way, when the snow had finally melted enough for you to make a trip to town, one of the first things you did was make a stop by the police station and inform them of the potential bitty ring that may be nearby.
The officers were understandably shocked, but thankfully they didn’t deny your statement outright—you weren’t actually sure how competent they were, and you were afraid that they were just going to brush you off, but thankfully your fears were unfounded. Although, with the living proof of the ring sitting right on your shoulder, that may have helped in persuading them into believing you… but that was beside the point.
And now, a year later, that effort may have finally paid off.
Your town was the only one that resided nearby the Great Lake Black, near where they found the ring.
You swallow thickly. “…I think we should make a stop at the rescue center, yeah?”
     “…Yes, I Agree.”

- || Notes -
The story is fairly lighthearted, so there’s not much drama nor angst, but the reader’s first three bitties share a rather unfortunate background in a bitty ring, but their background isn’t really the main point of the story.
The chapters are (or are planned to be) in chronological order, but there might be some significant time skips in between the chapters—especially between the prologue and chapter 1. If you get confused while reading you’re more than welcome to ask any questions you may have!
I’m writing this as I go, and there isn’t really any end point I’m looking to get to, since this mostly just me writing for my own enjoyment and to get my thoughts and ideas out, so a lot of the story is up in the air right now. There also isn't any sort of schedule I'm following for writing/posting the chapters, so the time between each chapter will depend on when my motivation decides to kick in...
On the other hand, if you have any ideas you want to share as you read, I would love to hear them! This isn’t me taking requests, so if you have an idea I don’t end up using please don’t be upset. I’m just trying to have fun, and I want you guys too as well!

It was late, nearly past midnight as you laid there on your mattress, scrolling through your phone. It was your first night in your new house, and the moving van wouldn’t be there until the morning. The only things you had with you were the boxes and mattress that you were able to cram into the minivan that your friend let you borrow. Admittedly, you were able to pack quite a few things with you after playing the minivan version of Tetris, but that game was no stranger to you.
You had done a lot of moving around when you were younger, never staying in one play for more than a few years before moving on to the next home. For every move you had gone through, your mother always had a minivan to do it with.
You would be shocked at how many things you could fit inside of one. You even remember moving a whole couch in one at one point!
Throughout those years of near constant moving in your life, your mother had gone through three different minivans and both you and your mother loved each and every one of them to their very last days. It was only until you were fourteen did your family finally settle down somewhere where your parents were likely going to stay for the rest of their lives.
After about a year there, when the third minivan that had taken your family there was finally starting to come to the end of its life, your parents decided to get new cars for themselves. And since there were no plans on moving again your mother decided, for the first time since for as long as you could remember, to get a vehicle that wasn’t a minivan.
That aside, your friend, Allira, is someone you’ve known since you moved to this little town in what felt like the middle of nowhere. She owned a flower shop you would often visit to buy some plants to help liven up your little apartment with, and after the first few trips, the two of you hit it off and eventually exchanged numbers—you’ve been close friends ever since.
The minivan that she owned was most often used for their little business; transporting the plants from point A to point B when it was needed, but in this situation, Allira was kind enough to let you borrow it for your move.
To be honest, you were debating on getting a minivan for yourself at some point, but in the end you decided to settle with your little car for now and instead move out of your old apartment and finally get yourself a place to truly call home.
Though to be honest that wasn’t your plan to begin with at all, sometimes life throws you a deal you simply can’t—or more don’t want—to pass up.
     Like now.
You see, it all started when you ended up becoming friends with a sweet old man who you’d often have a cup of coffee (or hot chocolate) with after you were finished with your work for the day. When you first met he was sitting alone at a table in a coffee shop, looking far too lonely for you to ignore. Which was unusual in and of itself, since you usually didn’t pay any attention to the people around you any more than you had to, but perhaps you were in a good mood that day. Either way, you ended up going up to the man and offering to sit with him to keep him company. Mr. Luther, or Grampa Luther, as he insisted on you calling him, was delighted to have the company, and that’s what started a long lasting friendship you weren’t expecting to make that day.
Ever since, you had been going to that coffee shop after work every day to keep Grampa Luther company and listen as he told any story that came to his mind.
Unfortunately, after three years had passed, Grampa Luther finally came to the end of his time and passed away peacefully in his sleep. It was sudden for everyone who knew him, really. His house was just outside of town and was within a short driving distance of his favorite coffee shop. He drove there almost every day and never had any trouble, but you suppose it truly was simply his time to go when he passed that night.
In the end, you decided to buy his little house a few months after it went up for sale. And perhaps it was an odd thing to do, since you’re not even related to him, but something in you felt at peace with your decision, so you decided to stick with it.
You sigh, and shake your head. Reaching over to your phone charger, you plug in your phone and set it to the side for the night. You rolled over onto your side and tucked yourself into your blankets, settling in for the night as you let sleep slowly take you.
Tumblr media
You wake up slowly, the light of the morning sun peaking through the windows of your room, softly brushing against your face.
You sigh, letting your body wake at its own pace. You always did love waking up with the sun, it just felt so nice. You couldn’t quite describe nor explain why, but you always seemed to be in a better mood throughout the day if you got to wake up to sunlight seeping through your windows. Your eyes open, and you stretch, feeling your muscles pull taut as you do so. After hearing a few pops you relax and yawn, laying on your back as you stare at the ceiling. After staring for a few minutes… and doing what was probably the human equivalent of a computer booting up, you roll your tongue across the inside of your mouth to try and rid it of that odd morning taste you seem to sometimes get after you sleep. Finally, deciding that laying in bed wasn’t going to do anything, you bravely roll off the bed and onto the floor, taking your blankets with you.
Your mattress was on the floor, so there wasn’t much of a drop, and with the cushioning of your blankets the “fall” is painless.
Sighing once again, you pick yourself and your blankets up and finally stand.
You pause, and search your memory for where the bathroom is, only to remember that the master bedroom—where you are right now—has a bathroom connected to it. You drop your blankets onto your bed and walk towards the bathroom, fighting back a shiver brought forth from the cold morning air.
…you were an odd mix of “morning person” and “night owl”, and not even you were quite sure how that worked. While you liked waking up with the light of the sun, you always had to fight yourself into actually getting up and not going back to sleep. While on the other hand, you could stay up until ungodly hours of the night and still not feel the backlash of “staying up too late”.
You could fall asleep just around midnight and still wake up with the sun at six AM.
Perks of not needing as much sleep as most people, you suppose.
Tumblr media
Later in the day, after hours of unboxing and organizing, you walk around and admire your work so far.
Everything was only about half finished. The great room had a couch, loveseat, coffee table, and a TV still in its box, waiting to be mounted on the wall above the fireplace. The coffee table was oval in shape and made of dark wood, and resting on top were some flowers your dad sent to you in celebration for your move and some remotes for the TV and sound system—the sound system itself waiting in its own box to be set up. Surrounding the coffee table was a large black couch and matching loveseat, the colors nicely contrasting with the off-white walls of the room. The floor was a dark brown wood with a white carpet on top. The fireplace was made of dark gray stones and was sitting in the corner of the great room, angled in a way that it could face diagonally into the center of the room.
“I’ll have to get some new plants to help get some color in here...” you mutter to yourself as you look around the rather monotone room. “Good thing I’ll be able to get my lemon tree from Allira tomorrow—among my other plants.”
All of the house plants that you had in your apartment were currently staying with Allira for safekeeping, since you couldn’t safely transport them in the minivan with all of your boxes in there, and the moving truck was mainly only moving your furniture, so your plants couldn’t safely go with them either.
And so, your plants awaited you safely within the arms of your dear friend.
And among those plants was your precious lemon tree, which you have had since you were a teenager. It’s grown several feet since you first got it and to be honest it’s been due a permanent home in the ground for a while now, with its height now being above your own... you just haven’t had anywhere to plant it until recently.
To be honest you didn’t really want to plant it, but sooner or later it’s going to get too big and you won’t be able to keep repotting it for much longer. So you plan on planting it either this spring or the next...
     .
     .
     .
     ...Ah, you're getting distracted.
...With a small hum, you turn on your heel and enter the kitchen.
The living room led into the kitchen in an open floor plan. No food was there yet, and the cooking essentials and silverware—among other things—had yet to be taken out of their boxes, so the kitchen wasn’t even half done at the moment. There was an island and good shelving space along with a small four person dining table sat in the open space just outside the actual kitchen.
The floor of the kitchen was made of cream colored tiles, and the walls a grayish green. The countertops, cupboards, and any shelves were made of a dark wood just a few shades lighter than the great room's hardwood floor.
Walking over to a door connected to the kitchen/dining area, you opened it to reveal the laundry room. In there was a washer and dryer, along with a sink and small shelving unit built into the wall. Just beyond the shelves was a side door leading outside. Your boxes of cleaning supplies and extra blankets (and one or two pillows) have been emptied out onto the shelves, along with various miscellaneous items tucked away in there for storage purposes.
Back in the kitchen was a pair of glass double doors leading to your back porch. There wasn’t anything out there yet but you were considering starting some sort of small garden out there, but hadn’t decided on it yet.
“If I do put a garden out here I could totally turn this place into a little cottagecore house... I mean, I definitely live in the right place for it.” You say as you look to your backyard.
Your back yard didn’t have much—or anything, really. Your house sat on a large patch of grass surrounded by trees in an oblique circle, with only your long driveway leading out of the circle of trees.
It would have been a little intimidating, if you weren’t so familiar with the area.
Farther out was a small, worn down path leading between the trees. You’ve been down that path only a few times, but at the end of the path was a small creek of slow flowing water; the water going down by only three feet at its deepest parts.
The creek would be a good spot to hang out during the summer time to cool off. However, with the autumn weather as it is now, you have no intention of taking a walk down that path anytime soon.
And since the trees were stripped bare from their leaves—with the end of fall approaching and winter coming even faster—there isn’t much scenery to look at.
...Back inside, on the other side of the room, was a small hall leading to three doors. The doors adjacent to one another were the guest rooms, and the door in the middle was a bathroom.
You were planning on keeping the extra rooms mostly empty, with the exception of a mattress and a few basic decorative pieces in each of the rooms for guests to use in case you have any over. You thought about turning one of them into an office, but had a feeling you would have rarely ever actually used it, so you discarded the idea for the time being.
You walked back to your room—the master bedroom—and looked around the space. In the corner next to the door was your queen sized mattress; now off of the ground and placed onto a proper bed frame. Sitting beside your bed was a night stand, holding things like any chargers you had and a small box of trinkets you don’t know what to do with. Your bed was now piled with pillows of various sizes and shapes along with two layers of mink blankets and another blanket you put somewhere in there—all in your preferred colors. Winter was coming soon and you weren’t going to be fighting off the cold with one or two pillows and blankets.
…Not to mention the fact that you just liked the excessive amount of soft things.
The cold of the upcoming winter was just a good excuse to indulge in your strange habit of collecting a mass amount of soft things—but that was beside the point.
The floor of your bedroom was made of the same hardwood as the great room, with a rectangular carpet centered in the room. On the wall opposite to the door was a bay window large enough to seat two people decorated in—lo and behold—various different pillows for cushioning and a thin blanket you had thrown in for easy access when you would eventually use the window. Nestled in the corner at the foot of your bed was a black chair with, yet again, a pillow sitting on it; the chair angled in a way to where it faced near the center of the room.
The chair was mostly just there to fill in the space, since you already had the bay window, which had plenty of seating room for you—but once again, that was beside the point.
Finally, on the wall across from your bed were two sliding doors. One led to the master bathroom, and the other to your walk-in closet. The closet held about half of your clothes now, with the rest still waiting in their boxes. The bathroom didn’t have much either, with it mostly being the essentials you brought with you the day before.
The house had more room than you needed to be honest. Three bedrooms was more than what one person would really need, but you didn’t mind much. More room can always be a good thing to have—so long as it isn’t too much extra room.
You sit down on your bed and lean back, falling into your pillows. “Hmmm, it’s already past noon… I should go get some food and, y’know, actually get something to fill up the kitchen with.” You breathe in and let out a low sigh, tired from all the work you did that day.
“Mmmh... I wanna take a nap...” you sigh again. “But if I do that I won’t be able to fall asleep tonight.” With a huff, you sit up and get off your bed, walking over to your shoes you left on the floor.
Slipping them on and grabbing your purse, you head towards your front door and car—grabbing a jacket along the way.
“‘M gonna have to unpack my winter clothes soon... it’s getting colder...” you mumble absentmindedly to yourself, starting your car and driving down the long driveway.
You let your thoughts wander, making a mental list of all the things you needed to buy from the store. It didn’t take long for them to wander into making a list for what you were going to need for this winter.
‘With the house being about a twenty minute drive from the town, I’m gonna need to stock up on food before it starts to snow too heavily... I should also get something to help insulate the windows. Mom would use some pretty heavy curtains to keep the warm air in... oh, I should probably stock up on firewood for the fireplace too. The winters here can be brutal. At least before when I was living in my apartment there were people nearby to help if I needed it. But now, out here, it’s a twenty minute drive into town, and a thirty minute drive to the nearest hospital, so I should stock up on medical supplies as well...’
As you drove down the road, small flakes of white began to dot your front window, melting into droplets as you continued to drive.
You spared them a glance in surprise, eyes widening at the sight.
“It’s snowing...? I know autumn is almost over, but snow isn’t supposed to be expected until mid November... What the heck? Hopefully it’s just a light passing, I’m not ready for an early winter at all!” You continue to watch the road, now going through everything you could afford right now for the possibly early winter.
“Guess I’ll be spending a little more today than I thought... just in case... stars, I am so lucky I’m not short on money, otherwise I would be postponing my moving in and staying with Allira until winter’s over–”
Before you even knew what happened, something small suddenly darted out of the tree line and collapsed in the middle of the road some distance ahead of you.
“What the heck was that...!?” You hiss out, swerving to the left to avoid running over it and almost slamming on the break, slowing down to a stop.
You put your car into park and step out, bracing yourself against the cold air and cautiously approaching the... the whatever it was.
'Was it an animal? Perhaps it was injured and it had tried to cross the road?'
Pieces of snow drifted down softly, bits of it landing in your hair and melting into it, slowly but surely damping it.
You walk forward, and come to a stop a few feet away from the thing that fell onto the road.
     It...
     .
     .
     .
     ...It was a bitty.
