A Mermaid adopts a bitty bones!

A mermaid with a curvaceous tail leaps over the tall crescent waves of the ocean. Below them minnows fled, as their powerful tail was like a storm that cut through the waves. They swam with the current past the crabs and sea snails who lazily crawled across the sand. The wind, surfed over the waves like a tempest of laughter. Seabirds bobbed like buoys over the ocean. Sea glass sparkled like iridescent glitter in the smoke of sunlight.

In an ocean of wonder, there was no one to share it with. The mermaid's tail was bright like a sparkle of imagination. Their eyes that once held mirth only held sorrow. A forlorn sorrow. The waves looked dull against the iridescent colors of her tail that swirled against the gentle waves. Her tail was like an oil painting. There was a deep aching in her soul, a hollow loneliness that sucked their happiness dry with each second spent alone. The doldrums of water seemed to call to them. They pushed themselves out the waves and joined society.

As they rose out the water, their tail faded, and where there once was a tail, now stood legs. Down the streets and down the bustling town, they saw a sign. 'Bitties Boo, Bitty house.' A bitty store, or at least a place that held bitties. The mermaid's hair smelt like saltwater and there was seaweed tangled in her hair. Frilled web-like fins were between her fingers. With great hesitance, she pushed open the door to the bitty shop. The bell on the door rang with a merry jingle as she stepped inside.

There the mermonster saw an aquarium, a tank filled with bitties. Their eyes sparkled with joy. They saw the Kraits dance and swim elegantly in the large aquarium. However that's not what caught their attention. There was a bitty in the tank. A bitty just like them. The bitties tail was a gradient orange. With the frills of their fins fading to soft blue at the ribbon like frills on their tail. Their bones were the color of ivory. The bitty held a hand against the glass. There was a sparkle a connection, a tug in the mermaid's chest that felt like fate speaking to them.

It was the call of their soul. The mer-bitty held a hand against the glass, against yours with the only thing separating your hands being the glass. "Ah! You have good eye that bitty's a mer Paps. Been here a few months." You looked over to the eccentric female in her uniform. Your eyes dropped to her feet and notice her socks aren't matching and neither are her earrings. "Now this is a bitty scantuary where we get rescues, though you can adopt. All the essentials are over there." You grab a few items and slapped a pile of seashells onto the counter near the cash register as payment. You walked out with the bitty in hand.

The bitty smiled up at you. "Promise me you'll care for me always?" The bitty looked up at you with hopeful eyes. You smiled. "Always." You felt the whistle of wind against your skin, and the bitty felt the call of the sea against their bones as the mermonster brought them to the maritime dock encrusted with barnacles. They both returned to the sea where they belonged and lived happily together in the ocean where they played and sang, no longer was the mermaid lonely for they now had a friend.
