Random thing, I'm still trying to find a character I can make icons out of for Verox, but finding dragon characters like him is proving to be difficult. If anyone has suggestions, I'd definitely appreciate it. Images below the cut.

Dossier: The History of Dragons, Magic, and Draconic Summoning Rituals
Polycus is home to many different species. From the most basic of humans and their sapient relatives, to the more out there creatures like Laser Hounds and beasts from the digital sea. However one that is largely absent, but not quite extinct, is the existence of dragons.
The story of dragons in Polycus date back well before the current era, a time that's been lost to all memory to the modern people of Polycus. A time before the bright neon lights of the cities lit up the sky, and when dragons were much more plentiful than they are now. The most aged of elder dragons speak of times when dragons were allowed to roam free on their lands, with few able to stop them. They were some of the most powerful magical beings in the realm, with magics so strong they could slightly bend reality to their wills. They are often considered the original mages in the world, and with lifespans that have only been theoretically reached, they are considered to be ageless immortals.
Back in the early days of mortalkind however, one had taken pity on the mortals of this world. They saw these dragons with their reality altering magics - some even using it to toy with the mortals - and in turn they saw fit to grant mortalkind the same gift. While not as strong as a pure dragon's magic, they would use this power to embolden themselves, and hunting dragons would become a sport for many civilizations of people. From kings wanting to expand their land to warriors with something to prove, the dragons would find themselves at the end of the same knife that many of them brandished at the once helpless mortals.
Hundreds of years would pass, possibly thousands. Eventually, the once thriving dragon population would dwindle, with only the strongest or most cunning living. Very few dragons still alive in this day are over a thousand years old, with it being theorized that the dragons from the earliest generation had been slain long ago. To put a stop to these senseless killings, the dragons would call a council with representatives of many different species of people. Humans, dwarves, elves, orcs and more would all join together and sign a treaty.
In short, dragons and mortals would stop seeing the other as little other than sport. Mortals could keep their magics, but as mortals couldn't get the most out of it, magic would eventually fade into the DNA of mortals over time, becoming more akin to superpowers in the modern era. Some born with enhanced abilities, or even with control over an element. These days, mortals able to actually cast spells in Polycus are considered unique, being reality benders closer to the dragons than most.
On the dragons' side however, the mortals were aware of the stronger magics they possessed, and requested that there be a part of the peace treaty that would allow dragons to assist in mortal matters if a bargain could be reached. This would require a dragon to hear out the mortal in question before any deal was made... but the mortals could not simply guarantee that a dragon would listen to their pleas to begin with.
A particularly greedy king had come up with a solution - what seemed to be a simple calling card system at first would soon reveal itself as an attempt at draconic slavery - summoning circles. They were known within certain magic groups to be able to summon demons, but unique ones would need to be designed to summon dragons. The king had his mages create such circles, and while the dragons protested their creation, the king would refuse their requests to have the knowledge destroyed. Under mysterious circumstances, his kingdom would fall within the next decade.
While the dragons had thought the knowledge of these circles to have been lost, they had cropped up more in modern times as the spellbooks belonging to the king's court mage were discovered, hundreds of years after the kingdom fell. Now, with the advent of devices to mass produce books and images, knowledge of these circles aren't as hard to find as they used to be, and dragons have been rediscovered as an existing race.
Dragons still wander Polycus in forms closer to mortals, though they're exceedingly rare. Some take on forms that look like a humanoid dragon, others take on purely mortal forms. Many of them, being reality benders, simply lie in wait in their own pocket dimensions. And while it is possible to find one that still respects mortalkind, it's considered a high gamble, especially when angering one can end with not just death, but the erasure of your very existence.

There's little worse than having a specific RP idea that you want to do but don't know if anyone else would want to do with you.
Worse if it's NSFW, because that only makes the chances even shorter.
#Reblog for day crew hooray#I'm gonna make an actual headcanon post talking about dragon summoning in Polycus and the history#But in the meantime here is the idea that spawned Verox#afterglow | nsfw#shadow dragon | verox

Of course my internet decides to be fucky when I wanna be here and participate in Sunday Shenanigans™. Oh well.
Gonna try and get to some starters I owe, if my internet allows for it. If anyone wants one, hit me up and we can discuss something.

Oh god this was two weeks ago and I never did these--
Okay, I'm gonna be getting on them now. I'm so sorry this took so long. Consider this call still open too, if anyone wants a specific character just let me know.
I know it's late and I know I've kinda neglected this account, but if anyone wants a small starter, maybe like one or two sentences, like this post. Either pick a muse or I'll pick one at random.
