I don't see a whole lot of activity on this blog anymore, most people have moved over to @everglow-synth-reboot, but I just want to throw out a quick reminder that I'm moving everything over there. This blog is going to be archived soon - I'm gonna be working on an official promo for that blog soon, which I'll reblog over here, and then that blog is going to be renamed to simply "everglow-synth", and this will be "everglow-synth-archive".

So if anyone who isn't following me over there wants to, or if I'm not following you on that blog because I'm rock fucking stupid, then by all means, go give it a follow.

Pros:

Matthew loves old movies and video games. While my last post mentioned that he will go on and on, this does also manifest in him having a huge stash of them, so whatever you'd be in the mood for, chances are good he can help.

He is very protective of his significant other, and will even go as far as to fight for them. This can be anything from protecting them from a mugging to even a bad encounter with an ex. He can be called off... but he won't hesitate to jump into action if he's let off of his leash.

While he does give off the impression that he's a constant jokester, he knows when to be serious and when to shut up. If you need someone to vent to, he's more than willing to oblige.

Cons:

He always feels like he has to fix things when they go wrong, which can cause him to overcorrect in a lot of situations. It's part of his nature as a hero, but also just a personal issue he's always had.

He is really bad about keeping his money. While he does allocate a certain amount of money for the Lounge that he refuses to touch, and he is good about that, his own personal funds for stuff like food and entertainment tend to disappear quick.

His drinking does cause him to get pretty shitfaced at the end of a night, so there are times where he will just come back home (or to his partner's home if they're closer) absolutely wasted. He can either be a cuddly drunk, or a sad drunk, and it's a roll of the dice on which he is that day.

Pros:

Matthew is fiercely loyal. He's a casual flirt, but when he enters a relationship that will largely cease, outside of flirting with his partner. He will occasionally do it to sell drinks, but that's really it, and he is willing to stop even that if his partner dislikes it.

He puts a lot of effort into date nights, wanting things to go well. Even if he just takes you out to a movie, he wants it to be more than that. And if something goes wrong, like the movie sucked or something bad just happened, he'll do his best to salvage the night.

He's also a fairly decent cook. He can do simple things like making a pack of ramen into a much more filling meal, and even more complex things like ribs, or even making pizza.

Cons:

Matthew does drink and smoke quite a bit. Part of it is the stress of being a hero, but the other half is just that he does have an addictive personality. He will do his best to tone it down when asked, but stopping always seems like an impossibility.

He's absolutely reckless. His powers do give him an advanced healing ability, but he uses that knowledge in the worst way. He will jump into danger, and if there isn't any he'll sometimes create it, so it's not uncommon for him to come home with a messed up wrist, if you're lucky.

YMMV: If you get him on the topic of old games or old movies, he will go on and on. While this can be charming at first, it could potentially get annoying, and he will need shutting down.

"As it stands there's no fuckin' way Drew is officially licensed. I mean, unless the DMV's started allowing children behind the wheel, or he convinces them he's actually older.

"Then again I've seen how some people drive around here, so maybe they do let kids drive. Fuck, I dunno."

Matthew had been making drinks all day, with little out of the ordinary. However, there had been a customer who caught his eye, one who seemed... pretty troubled. He'd been there for a while, just ordering beer every now and again and mumbling to himself. He didn't seem to be getting drunk either, just... distracted.

Soon enough, he decided to approach him.

"Hey, uh... you okay, man?"

The man didn't reply, simply continuing to mumble to himself. He had been plagued by nightmares the past few nights, and was trying to take his mind off of things... but they'd been stuck in his head for so long that it was proving harder than he initially thought.

He took a swig of his beer, then sets the bottle back down. At this point he was used to the nightmares, but he still wanted them to end, to be able to just get a single night's worth of peaceful sleep... but every time he closes his eyes, he hears her voice in his head, threatening to drive him insane. He knew that she wouldn't let him sleep until he was dead, or she could take over.

If he wasn't going to answer him, Matthew figured it'd be best to just leave him be for now. He wasn't causing any issues... but he was definitely starting to get some eyes on him. Best to make sure he's alright every now and again, at least.

Dossier | The Nightmare

Another door was kicked open. He'd been doing it all day, trying to get to the end of these catacombs, and he was starting to run out of ammunition. Just being here was starting to make him feel sick, though... he had never felt a sickness like this. Were they pumping something into the air to slow him down? He didn't know for sure, but it was starting to make him very dizzy.

He heard chanting down here. He had to be on the right track.

It wouldn't be long however before the chanting would stop, and he'd be in a pitch black room. Pistol in one hand, flashlight in the other, he clicked on the light and started to look around the room.

Unfortunately however, he had wandered right into their trap.

The door behind him slams shut, and his flashlight goes out. The floor beneath his feet starts to glow a deep red as a magic circle scrawled in blood was painted along the brick floor. He spins around to the door to try and make a run for it, but in his way are two cultists. He aims his gun at one of them but the other grabs him by the wrist.

The hood falls on one, revealing the face of his father; an old, grizzly looking drunk with a crazy look in his eye. The other cultist grabbed him as well, their hood falling back to reveal his mother, the one person who he trusted the most as a child... now staring back at him with a psychotic grin.

"You should have been a good boy, Johnny!" she cackles. "Soon, our lord shall rise... and you will be granted a wonderous end, bringing forth her arrival!"

He wanted to fight it, but before he knew it, he fell beneath the brickwork. They stood in place, seemingly in mid-air, as he fell through the floor and tumbled into the darkness below. He fell for what seemed like hours, before he was suddenly met with something he could barely comprehend.

All he could truly make out were the tendrils wrapping around his body, piercing into his mind as he fell deeper and deeper into the gaping maw of a great and terrible beast.

There was no help coming for him. He was alone... just like always. He fell down into the darkness, feeling the tendrils taking over his mind. He didn't feel anything... nothing but the feeling of drowning as his consciousness was being overtaken.

Even in the darkness he could make out faces as he fell, people that had put him in this position. The old priest, the neighbor who always gave him cookies as a child... his own family... but soon, everything would go dark. No faces, no screaming... nothing.

Jonathan woke up to a pounding headache and him having fallen on the floor. He checked the clock on the nightstand; 4:24 AM. And as soon as he realized that he was actually awake... he felt a need to vomit. He rushed to the bathroom, throwing up in the sink.

He took a moment to compose himself, turning on the faucet and taking a drink. He then looked up into the mirror. Every time he did, he saw what laid behind his eyes; a dormant eldritch abomination that he wanted nothing to do with. She had been disturbed in her slumber, and was threatening to awaken inside of him... but thankfully, as far as he knew, the only people who knew the awakening ritual were now dead.

But he could feel her deep within, speaking inside of his mind, showing him visions of the past, of the future, or even just making him question his own sanity...

At this point, it was just starting to get tiring. He wasn't afraid of her anymore... he just wanted this to end.

With a sigh, he made his way back to bed. Maybe she would let him get some sleep this time...
