Unspoken Affection.
Kang sae byeok x Fem!Reader

A/n: This is my first ever peice of writing and is not proofread so pleaseee don't judge this was just a random idea I had anyways enjoy :)
Summary : Kang Sae-byeok meets Y/n as their younger brothers play together. Often sharing quiet moments in the park with Sae-byeoks usual cold demeanor , You begin to notice subtle changes in her behavior, as you both share fleeting glances hinting at a growing, unspoken bond between you two.
The park was always quiet in the early mornings, the sun barely peeking over the horizon as children ran around and parents watched with smiles and quiet chatter. You had come here more than a few times, watching your younger brother, Kim Tae-yeung , play with his new friend, a boy named Kang cheol. Their bond was instant, and it had been a few weeks now since you’d started meeting Cheol’s older sister at the park. Kang Sae-byeok.
You didn’t know much about her, except that she was distant and often stood alone, watching her brother from afar. Despite being a few years older than you, she never really spoke. It wasn’t out of rudeness; it was just that she seemed to exist in a world of her own, guarded and reserved. You never pushed her to speak. Sometimes, the quiet moments between the two of you were enough.
On this particular morning, the air was cool, the park quiet, and your brother and cheol were running around, playing a game of tag while you sat on a bench. Kang Sae-byeok was leaning against the railing, as usual, her posture rigid, her eyes flicking over to you every now and then, but never meeting your gaze for long.
You had become used to this—her silent presence—but something about today felt different. Every time you caught her eyes for a split second, you saw something soft, something unreadable there. It was like she was trying to say something without saying anything at all.
You didn’t want to intrude, so you kept your distance, but your curiosity about her had been growing ever since you first met. She was tough, no doubt, but there was something vulnerable about her that you couldn’t ignore.
“Hey, Sae-byeok,” you finally said, breaking the silence between you. You weren’t sure why, but today, you felt bolder. “Do you want to join them? Cheol and Tae are playing tag.”
She didn’t immediately respond, her gaze flicking to you but quickly looking away as if the question caught her off guard. You could see her jaw tighten, her fingers gripping the railing in that familiar, almost imperceptible way.
“I’m fine,” she muttered, her voice iced barely audible , but there was a hint of something in it. The way she said it made you feel like maybe, just maybe, she wasn’t as fine as she appeared.
You smiled softly. “You sure? I could use the company.”
Sae-byeok was silent for a moment, glancing over at the kids running around. She looked torn, almost like she wanted to join but couldn’t bring herself to cross that invisible line she had drawn around herself. Finally, she sighed, her shoulders and stoic demeanor relaxing just a little. “I’ll watch from here,” she said, her voice low but steady.
You nodded, not wanting to push her further. “Alright,” you said with a warm smile. “But the offer’s always open.”
Turning your attention back to Tae and Cheol, you couldn’t help but steal glances at Sae-byeok every now and then. She remained by the railing, her expression unreadable, but her gaze lingered on you longer than usual.
After a while, Taeyeung ran up to you, his face flushed with excitement. “Noona! Choel and I need a referee for our race!” he exclaimed, tugging on your sleeve as his large saucer-like eyes pleaded you to join.
You laughed and ruffled his short black hair. “Alright, I’ll do it.”
As you stood up to follow him, you glanced back at Sae-byeok. “You could help me referee,” you said, half-joking, half-hopeful.
To your surprise, she hesitated, her fingers loosening their grip on the railing. She seemed to consider it for a moment before shaking her head. “I’m not great with… that kind of stuff,” she said, her voice softer this time as she looked down at her shoes , her eyes looking more rounded as she met your gaze once again.
“It’s just a race,” you said lightly. “No pressure. Besides, it’s not about being great—it’s about having fun.” you said with a laugh.
For a moment, you thought she would say no again, but then, to your amazement, she pushed off the railing and took a hesitant step toward you. “Just this once,” she muttered, almost as if trying to convince herself.
Your grin widened. “I’ll take it.”
The kids were thrilled to have her join, and as the race began, Sae-byeok stood beside you, her posture still a bit stiff but her focus on the boys as they dashed across the park. You couldn’t help but notice the faintest smile tugging at her lips when Cheol tripped over his own feet and Taeyeung stopped to help him up, both of them laughing.
“They’re good kids,” she whispered quietly, almost to herself.
“They are,” you agreed, glancing at her. “Cheol looks up to you, you know. He talks about you all the time.”
Sae-byeok’s expression softened, and for the first time, she didn’t look away when your eyes met. “He’s all I’ve got,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper as for once you saw something other than that stoic reserved glare behind her eyes.It was something more vulnerable.
Something in her tone made your heart ache. You wanted to say something, to tell her that she didn’t have to carry everything alone, but the words felt too heavy for this moment. Instead, you simply nodded. “You’re doing a good job,” you said, your voice gentle but firm.
Her eyes flickered with something you couldn’t quite place—gratitude, maybe?—before she looked away, a faint blush coloring her cheeks as she turned slightly so her bangs covered her face.
For the rest of the morning, Sae-byeok stayed close, always passing fleeting glances , her usual distance replaced by a weary yet tentative sense of connection. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to make you realize that maybe, just maybe, the walls she had built around herself weren’t as unbreakable as they as they seemed.
And as the sun climbed higher in the sky, casting warm golden cast over the park, you couldn’t help but feel like something had shifted between you—a small, quiet beginning of something more.
