The Licanius Trilogy

Books:
- A Shadow of What was Lost
- An Echo of Things To Come
- The Light of all that Falls
Where to begin, ok this is an Epic Fantasy. Follows the central characters Davian, Asha, Wirr and Caeden as they are seperated in a journey to save the country from a terrible evil. They use magic to both get them in and out of trouble. With time travelling, visits from future characters and all and all a great premise for a series.
Discussion:
I was hooked on the first two books, i got to a point and i just absorbed the book, i had to make sure i read slowly because man was there a lot of detail. A little bit of a slow start, but there is a significant event that gets you hooked... you'll know it when it pops up.
Good:
Islington made his characters struggle and grasp for there goals, whihc is a sign of good writing, you get to know these people through the pages. His discussion of fate vs choice was interesting, as was his exploration of the complex nature of morality and the greater good.
Less Good:
Anyway, i did get annoyed with female representation, like in the first book probably like 5 female characters got introduced, to the many male characters. Which is typical of Epic Fantasy. Also the third book was very hard to get through, i literally had to force myself to read two chapters a night.
Anyway, happy reading.

Why Thou
Anyone wanna tell me why there seems to be a complete absence of fantasy/sci fi books for like 20-30 folk, like i am a bit sick of reading about school adventure and ra da da...
The books that are out there have angst and are sooo dark, like i am living that and want an escape please, not a continuation of this stuff.
is it me, am i too picky, am i not looking hard enough, have i already read them!!!!
Do i have to write one myself?
