not sure if this'll be coherent but it's crazy to me how the teenage phil of the past who was writing homoerotic spike/oz fanfiction was not only in the past of our phil now - but was also in the past of phil in 2018, and phil in 2016, and phil in 2014 etc. youthful m/m vampire wolf writer phil was already a part of him in all those eras and versions, even though in my mind, this lore seems to only perfectly fit him now, and thinking it didn't just pop into existence in 2024 is making me recalibrate all my impressions of him before. is this anything? i'm not sure. this is probably something about our perceptions of people and how our life arcs eventually become circles and how true-ness can't stay down forever and stuff. anyway i'm happy phil found his way back to the carefree joy of being a teenager writing gay fic for himself. end monologue!

I would have LOVED to be a fly on the wall when Dan inevitably read the Word document containing young Phil's fanfic....

What I want to know: If Phil really did read it for the first time on camera, did Dan read it before or after him?

Ok but fr as a fanfic writer, this video brings me so so much comfort.

Knowing 1) we have an updated "terms of service" as it were about dnp brings me so so much peace of mind!! I cannot even express how relieved I am to hear his words on the subject

2) I've been worried for some time now that, because I'm a guy, it makes it automatically creepier for me to write fanfiction, specifically rpf. And I know this is somewhat irrational, but ever since I transitioned I've been stuck in that sort of thought process. Knowing Phil did the same thing... makes me worried a bit less, idk

3) Legit this video helps me believe that I'm not actually wasting my life!! I love writing and lately that writing has taken the form of fanfic, and that's okay!! Phil turned out okay so perhaps I will too, even if I spend all my time writing fanfic lmao.

hey char! what do you think phil meant when he said "as long as you're not being too weird" when he talked about rpf and being "shipped with another youtuber" ?

it seems like his take on rpf is that if people specifically say don't, then don't (which, considering what he graciously went through for years as a public figure, i can understand the viewpoint), but otherwise, it's pretty much fine, with a few caveats.

now he doesn't specifically say, but based off our history with dnp, the line would be:

insisting/assuming fic is real

shoving fic in their/their families' faces

it's hard to say his actual opinion on some of the very graphic/disturbing crackfic that happened in our community, cause both he and dan reference specific ones when making jokes. any concrete thoughts on that would be pure speculation on my part.

beyond that, i think there's not a lot that would phase him. he truly has seen it all throughout the years. if you're a writer, i hope you're not too stressed. i don't think any of our writers are doing anything even close to 'over the line'. dnp have been good at respecting our writing space and we've generally been good about respecting them back (especially these last many years i wouldnt say theres been anything 'bad')

Literally anything that talks about depression i will think of Dan, and how it could tie to him, but also this song can remind me of him if i think about it and angle it correctly, but it's a song that I personally relate to a lot and my brain just can't mash it with dnp for some reason because of how deeply personal i feel about this particular song.

Yes, literally can't think of any other people when i listen to this song. Dan talking about how this song reminds him of Phil in a deleted forum post in a website that probably doesn't exist anymore.

Life is a series of choices and you can either take the "joy and whimsy" road (as @simplydnp so wonderfully put it) or you can take the realistic road, which is usually decidedly less fun.

That's why I also choose to believe dnp have a secret sex dungeon in their basement
