mike is the type of boyfriend that would be on a date at the movies and he’d miss his mouth while eating the popcorn because he’d be to busy staring at el.

One of my all time favorite Mileven scenes is the Snowball Scene and for 2 reasons, one of them being:

The absolutely HEART STOPPING way that Mike looks at El.

You look at how Mike looks at El in that Snowball Scene and its easy to imagine it's a husband dancing with his love on their wedding day, a middle aged man sharing a peaceful moment with his wife, and an old man gazing at his life partner and recalling all the memories of a lifetime together with her all at the same time.

His eyes are so adoring and it's like you can FEEL his heart is beating for her and only for her, full to the brim with emotions even he doesn't fully know. El is adorable too, so shy and sweet but Mike steals that scene for me with just how tenderly he looks at her.

The setting around them is such that you can SEE how glaringly obvious it is that he's just a teenager: a boy of thirteen, young and emotional and rough around the edges. And it's also glaringly obvious that Mike and El are just kids, a little awkward and nervous because it's their first relationship and they're figuring things out. They haven't even gotten to the proper honeymoon phase yet even though I'm guessing it's been approximately a month at least since they've been reunited. They're still too scared and nervous about how to go about it because of how inexperienced and young they are (which is why the "do you wanna figure it out" line is my second favorite part of the scene but more on that later).

But despite the obvious indicators to just how youthful Mike and El are, it's Mike's eyes, oh boy his EYES, which speak of a love that is beyond his years with how deep and powerful and pure it is. Despite his rough edges and how obvious it is that there's so much room for him where he is yet to grow more into his own person, it's clear his love for El is profound. It's the one thing he's absolutely sure and confident about and it shines through his eyes in a way that makes him look older, wiser, more mature than a thirteen year old boy really should be at his age even if he doesn't quite realize the depth of his emotions himself.

Finn's acting in that scene just blows me away because he manages to somehow carry all these emotions in his actions and mostly just through his eyes. You see Mike not only as the young boy that he is but also hints of everything he will be for El in the years to come. It's a scene not only rooted in the present but also carrying hints of the future.

Mike Wheeler will adore and treasure El Hopper with his everything until his dying breath and that is just absolutely breathtaking how clearly and naturally it is conveyed through this one scene in the entire series.
