Ooe Review

4 years after its announcement Ooe has finally been released. Having played all of Adelta’s a previous works, I have been following and waiting for the game since day 1. Closed murder detective stories are one of my favourite things, sprinkle a bit of horror into it and you will have me on the edge. From all the Adelta work this one has intrigued me the most. So finally, after so long we are presented: Ooe

Description

A commemoration for the second anniversary of an actress’s death is being held on Ooejima, a remote island beyond Hachijoujima, south of Tokyo. Oosaki, a detective, receives a request to attend the ceremony on someone’s behalf. However, the ship meant to bring them back fails to show up at the appointed hour, no one has heard a thing from the coordinator of the event, and there seems to be an inexplicable fear and hatred between all of the attendees. Stranded on an ominous island, ten people try to unravel the mystery of the threads weaving their past and the death of the actress named An Ooe. An unconventional mystery set in the Showa era with a Japanese twist on the classic closed circle literary device. It is the year 1955, mid-showa period. An era characterised by chaotic sentiments, with traces of war still visible. The attendees, accompanied by doubts and their devotion to An Ooe, come to the memorial service in an abandoned village. They manage to overcome the barriers of status and spend their time in harmony. However, the situation changes when the servant who helped them until then is found dead. Driven by extreme suspicion, they start to search for the murderer, but this is followed by a second and third crime...

Story

I’m extremely impressed with the game. The story isn’t dropped at you at once but slowly reveals itself to you as you pass through the routes. I was worried that everything would be revealed in the first route like in hashihime (which I didn’t like) or that would be too rushed and confussing (like in uuultraC), but here the pacing of the game is slow, and you learn more and more about the game and its characters. Even if some routes were shorter than others, I never had the feeling that the pacing was off, it always felt well developed. There is also no “true ending” in this game, instead you find out the mystery behind the client and their motives as well as the death of the actress, through the different routes. The “climax” of the story, in my opinion is a few routes before the end, but the routes after it didn’t feel like they were useless, instead they were there to bind the last loose threads to the story. Which led me to have a satisfying feeling once I finished the game.

The game has 10 routes with one character having two endings and one character having two routes, so technically 12 routes? I think Kurosawa did extremely well with the writing this time, which really surprised me. (I’m critical of her because even if her writing style is beautiful her content is sometimes questionable, to say the least) Another point I really liked is how different each route was, completely different, some routes were going more into the classic detective way, some were straight up comedy, some were really emotional and some were just straight up crack, it kept me really engaged and always made me look forward to the next. The extras in this game also are important since one story line will only get solved in them and you will learn more information about all the murder and other incidence that happened in the game in them. Another thing I really liked is how, although the story is told from Oosaki’s pov, the writing is very neutral, and doesn’t make a lot of judgement, this made it feel like a third-person pov in a way, and let you have a more open-minded approach on the game.

Story

Character

Ariake

Let’s talk about the worst part about this game. I fucking hated everything about Ariake, he is annoying, his wanna be cute attitude was shit, he only gave a shit about himself and Oosaki, but only if Oosaki was paying him attention. When the characters were first released back in 2021 I experienced something called “hate at first sight” with Ariake. Something about his face pissed me off so I never was a fan, but usually I try to be open-minded when going into a game, I went in without any expectations….and got the worst. From the beginning Oosaki is falling for Ariakes fake play, and thinking Ariake is the weak and he had to protect him, when in reality Ariake had being pretending the whole time, manipulating Oosaki to break him. Which ends in total disaster for Oosaki’s mental health and ends with him becoming a killer and a terrible person himself. From the beginning on I knew Ariake was fake, I knew his arm wasn’t broken and I knew he killed his wife, but because of my kindly opened minded nature I put all my hate biased to the side, but I’M AN IDIOT I SHOULD HAVE BELIEVE IN MY GUT FEELING. Fuuuuu- I hated everything about him and his stupid ass ending. Manipulative bastard with no charm. What made me even more annoying is how Oosaki (stupid idiot) always fell for his fake play even in other routes, uuugh. I played the whole game with a friend and when we finished the first the route we both wanted to jump out the window, honestly a first route impression that couldn’t have been worse. The H-scene was the most uncomfortable experience of my game career, the whole “Ariake is fake” reveal, right before it made me want to end myself. Don’t think I have ever thrown so many insults at a love interest and Kurosawa…. And her obvious bias towards him isn’t helping AAAAAAHHHHH I HATE THIS. BUT at least he was the first route so I moved on fast and enjoyed the rest of the game, though tbh after this route I had to take a mental break from this game.

And now let’s talk about my unbiased opinion. Generally, I thought the routes was the weakest, it takes a pretty long while until you get out the common route and then it just drags on with not a lot of things happening, beside a bit Oosaki lore before it escalated with this ass ending. This ending itself also did a great harm on my liking for Oosaki who I really enjoyed until till then, but suddenly he became a cold killer, murdering innocent people because of a stupid lie and in my eyes, he became the type of cold seme I hated. If you see the route as a what it is, a disturbing psychological horror, it’s not bad but I still wouldn’t say it was good, it’s giving edgy twitter user energy. Also, the A end? Stupid fake pretentious happy ending. From the extra you learn that they even try to commit suicide together in this end, so basically the route, no matter if A or B end has no happy end. Oosaki just wants to die, and it hurt my heart seeing him be so miserable and even more broken than in the beginning. Idk why I even should care or like this pairing??? The worst impression you can even get from the first route. Lmao eww. Ariake worst Adelta character for real.

Shinbashi

After the shit that went down in the first route I was almost too scared to continue but lucky the following route went way better. The first routes sucks, because it makes you think Shinbashi is an asshole (well he kinda is lmao) and the enemy, but in reality he has been telling the truth all along. This route had me packed from the beginning, once the choice for his route shows up your start spending all the time with Shinbashi, and boy this man is hilarious. I thought his weird way of speaking keigo is fake but apparently it’s how he really speaks. If you can understand even a bit of Japanese you will notice how he mixes keigo (super polite language) with insulting words, creating this completely sassy language, with banger lines. Shinbashi has serious trust issues, so it was nice seeing him slowly beginning to trust Oosaki (kinda) to the point of even saving him from drowning. Non- pairing related things I liked about this route, Aomi and Takeshiba play hide and seek ghost version lmao (I saw right through it) , Takeshiba stabbing Shijoumae (hell yeah go my boy), and Hinode jumping into the sea had my mouth on the floor. I’m generally a fan of brutal murder so I had a good time with this route lmao. I thought the final scene was sooo good with Oosaki exposing Shinbashi as a murder and then going straight to the confession, omg my heart, the emotion hit so good (especially after the last route). I fully expected Shinbashi to be homophobic but nope, man literally took Oosaki’s confession as a marriage proposal LMAO, in fact there is not even a hint of homophobia in this game and I’m living for it. The fact that Shinbashi was inspired by a cat and is a cat freak is so funny, he is literally a meow meow. (Also, the fact that he killed his brother because he killed his cat? Relatable, fully acceptable would have done the same sir, my honor he is innocent). So yeah, I enjoyed his route very much, the only bad thing about this route is that Ariake is still alive.

Aomi

The purest, holiest character in this game. A tragic character who absolutely did nothing wrong and is blaming himself for some reason. Aomi is one of my absolute favourite characters, it’s a pleasure (especially for the eyes) every time he is on screen, I really love the soft gentle way he speaks. Even if he only says the most necessary, you can easily tell how much he cares. His route is very bittersweet and very emotional, and the final scene really reflected that, with his Hscene being very emotion driven. Compared two the first routes, where Oosaki takes on the detective role, in this one he takes on the role of the apparent killer, which was a nice twist, but also leads to the most unfortunate incident and one of few “whoops” moments of Oosaki: The rape scene. To be honest, I wasn’t surprised since we already saw that he could do terrible things previous route, so I didn’t think it was OOC of him but that didn’t make it any better. Especially since he is attacking an innocent person, but I’m at least glad that A. its wasn’t shown in CG (which would have made it very sexualized) and B. that he seems to truly regret it, judging by his immediate after-reaction and thoughts during the hscene. This is one of the routes that left me longing for more. I want to see how these two will grow together and if Oosaki can help Aomi to overcome his self-blaming. To be honest, I do like, that Oosaki has to work for Aomi’s love after all the things that happened, I feel like he should work more for it but in the end, I wish both of them happiness.

Shiodome

A killer, a psycho and a cannibal, and yet I fell for his charm. You can see the madness in Shiodome’s face but something about him just makes you like him. Who am I kidding he is CUTE as hell. Despite him being crazy and kind of scary, scenes with him were the most fun, since he acts extremely unpredictable, it’s hard to tell what he will do next. Despite everything else he is a very smart kid, and I could sit all day and listen to him talk. He is loud, can’t sit quietly and makes chaos, but he is like a cute pet monkey you can’t help but want to pet. There are also some scenes where he is very supportive of other characters, and I really liked that. He had a very sad childhood so I can understand where his personality comes from, that’s why I think he just needs more love. He has two routes: A and B. You have to play B first and that route is terrifying to say the least. It jumps into completely madness (which is not surprised consider how he is a 5 on the madness scale) with everyone going crazy and killing each other beside Oosaki and Shiodome, who actually eats his eye and and ear…..k. Oosaki also completely cuts off his family and job in this end, which was painful to see at and tries to fill his loneliness with Shiodomes. This end has the same psychological horror aspect as Ariake’s route and has no real happy end. It was just as uncomfortable, and I seriously felt like vomiting. You can’t even enjoy the H-scene because it keeps showing you a flashback of Oosaki fighting his cute kohai and his dad. From a romance perspective shit as hell, from a horror perspective a masterpiece. Not sure if you’re even supposed to ship this pairing because everything is trying to make your experience as uncomfortable as possible. But unlike Ariakes route, Shiodome and Oosaki felt both like victims of their own delusions here so despite this outcome I have no hate for them as characters. That beside emo white hair Oosaki looked horrendous, and I cringed every time he was shown on screen. Also, Ariake died so 10/10 route. 👍

Ending A. Is a rather short route and starts right after Funeno’s death. With Oosaki trying to repair the phone and taking Shiodome with him to keep him awake during the night. There isn’t much going on beside Shiodome trying to escape and Oosaki catching him again in 0.1 seconds and then spending the rest of the time sitting ON him so he can’t escape again lol, stupid whore Ariake joining in for a few minutes, and then the reveal with Toyosu (which was a good transition for his own route). Shiodome being crazy enough to get stabbed to save Oosaki (unexpected but I take it). Shiodome gets jailed for 3 years because he still killed Funeno in this route (I’m surprised it was only 3 years?) I had games before where the LI was put in a mental hospital but jail is new lmao. I’m super biased towards Shiodome so I’m happy that he was released only after 3 years, and my god is the ending CUTE. Oosaki buying them a house?? BEST LOVER Shinagawa being super pissed but Shiodome still trying to make friends with him was so funny. And Shiodome asking if Oosaki can accept him the way he is and if he can be a good wife?? ADORABLE I NEED 10 OF THOSE The only sad thing is that they didn’t have a good end H-scene but *cough I’m hoping for continuation cough* Also Shiodome is the only 5 who got a real happy end, and I appreciate that, he may be crazy, but he really deserves it. ❤️

Takeshiba

Obviously, I have been biased towards Takeshiba from the start because A. Kansai-ben and B. sexy hair. The japanese fandom says he is the “ichiban eroi” (most erotic) and I have to agree with that lol. With Takeshiba being a 4 (that 1 missing point keeping him from a 5 is keeping him sane) I thought his route would also go the madness way, but surprisingly we got a comedy route in the first part of it, with the whole gang (except Funeno who is dead and Shiodome who is in bath jail again) playing silly games. Seeing adult man fight over a stupid card game and playing the rock-paper-scissors game: newspaper edition was hilarious. Oosaki’s dialogue was so smooth during the game, I’m sure he made several men fall for him (judging by shinbashis blush lmao). Seeing Ariake suffering was good for my soul. How much of a piece of shit do you have to be to call someone a pedo for holding onto a child during a simple game? I hope he drowns. But at least he fucked off later when Oosaki asked him for his cooperation. Back to Takeshiba, the scene on the boat was my fav when Takeshiba revealed his evil intentions and tried to stab Oosaki but instead got pinned down in seconds LMAO what a stupid and pathetic man (I’m so in love with him). There were so many cute cgs in this route (Takeshiba on the boat, him hugging Hinode, Oosaki carrying Takeshiba piggyback style). Takeshiba having a child reveal was very unexpected, but fucking cute? We need more LI with children in my opinon (too bad he couldn’t keep her in the end😭 ) The whole end scene with them having dinner together, Takeshiba getting drunk and Oosaki carrying him while Takeshiba tells him basically his whole life story and then later at the love hotel-inn was super cute and super hot??? Hello? Damn Kurosawa improved on those H-scenes. I honestly didn’t expect Takeshiba to be so lewd (and I’m sure not complaining), the Oosaki dick lore was too much for my taste though lmao. I can’t believe the whole route can be summarised with Takeshiba looking at Oosaki’s dick and thinking “This can fix me” LMAO.

No, no I’m joking but for real, it was unexpected. Takeshiba is so mean playing with Oosaki’s feeling, but come one man, you aren’t old stop talking like Oosaki is having sexual intercourse with an old geezer, this ain’t Shijoumae. Despite that, (I’m usually not into the jealous type), but Oosaki being jealous is surely a treat. It felt like Takeshiba couldn’t even imagine Oosaki liking a pathetic middle-aged man, and I want to see what will happen if Oosaki were to confess to him, I can imagine them actually becoming a couple (wishful thinking, but come on this is BL after all I don’t need women in this) I also hope to see a continuation of their story, because Takeshiba deserves the love. The whole end was so cute I watched it like a teenage girl reading a romance novel. This route was my unbiased favourite one, and they are definitely one of my favourite pairings of the game, which I didn’t expect at all but it was just so good, and as much as I enjoy madness, wholesome and funny endings will always be my favourite. And honestly after reading the extras I think Takeshiba did the right thing by killing his family, he even blocked all escape routes, truly vile (I just love him so much) and that he deep down is a good boy ❤️. Also, the fact that he is a christian was the second biggest shock for me in this game.

Shijoumae

Never liked Shijoumae and even after finishing the game I can’t say I do now, I don’t hate him, he had some funny scenes but he is totally not my taste. I’m glad he is not a real LI but just an ending. I’m fully supporting him killing Ariake but Hinode? A CHILD???? How heartless can you be? And it pisses me off that he didn’t get a punishment for all the murder he committed so I fully support Oosaki raping him, he deserved it. (Destroying his pride but not staining his hand with murder, still better than Ariake’s end) Oosaki was so pitiful in this route, he tried to commit suicide twice…. Only to be saved by Shizuma the second time 😭 (More about this later). What pissed me off the most in this route is that he apparently OUTLIVES OOSAKI WHAT, HE IS 62 HOW? Also, man has the hottest wife in the universe, and he doesn’t lay his hand on her???? What a fucking loser. I hope his wife has her own personal harem. But once again, the writing was impressive, and Ariake died so 10/10 immediately.

Toyosu

Toyusu is my other non-biased favourite route. He is one of the two non-romance route and I’m honestly glad he is not romanceable (his hips wouldn’t survive Oosaki’s giant dick). His route starts with Hinode dying? What? Yeah, actually I noticed very fast something was off there because usually when characters die in this game their corpses are shown as a silhouette, which wasn’t the case here. Later Toyosu also “dies” in his own route lol. Obviously, he isn’t dead, and he was just pretending to be killed just like Hinode because he has been the client all along (and not only him), at this point I wasn’t surprised since it was already more or less clear from Shiodome’s A ending (He knew Aomi’s real first name) Toyosu was actually just pretending to be a monk, in reality he was a doctor. But I honestly thought the reveal was done well and even if I didn’t like Toyosu in the beginning I did end up liking him a lot. He is really sweet after all and how can I hate someone who took care of a child. This is the route we finally learn about Oosaki’s first name, and the reveal was done so well. Even if there was no pairing in this route, I thought the scene in the end with Oosaki visiting Toyosu, the scene with the fireworks and the Oosaki asking him not to die was so beautiful and emotional, and most important OOSAKI SMILED FOR THE FIRST TIME. The last scene with Oosaki calling his dad in the end and telling him he loves him had me in tears (If you play this with MTL you won’t notice but when his dad tells him he loves him and Oosaki says it back, his name tag changes to “Hiiro”, such a small but cute detail). Nothing in this game could make me cry, but the moment Oosaki’s dad shows up, I’m in tears. The relationship between them is just so cute, it left me emotional every single time. I’m really sad Toyosu dies a few months after the story but not like you can do anything about it since he is already at the end of his life.

Hinode

Three word. Too. Much. Ariake. FUCK. The first 2h of this game could be called Ariake route part 2 for real. And I don’t even know what the point of him being there was because in the end it didn’t even connect to anything and was just useless time spending. Kurosawa forcing her favourite whore into our faces again (kill me). We played this route with four people and there was constant groaning every time Ariake showed up. Anyway, I felt like the route needed more Hinode…. Yeah, in the first few hours Oosaki doesn’t even spend time with him. And once he does the route suddenly ends….uhm okay. Technically Hinode is not a Love Interest, and he has no H-scene OBVISOULY HE IS 14, please. I was so worried over it, but I’m glad Kurosawa stayed sane here hahaha. So, in this route we learn that Hinode is also part of the ”client” and that he came to the island to revenge his mother who vanished and apparently An Ooe’s murderer is one of the attendees, and that the whole murder of this An is the reason why his mother vanished or something. Ariake, being the human waste, he is set Hinode up against Shiodome for some reason and Oosaki rushes to save them only to find Hinode having shot Shiodome (I swear despite Shiodome being a 5 he is constantly a victim, he even dies accidently in Toyosu’s route, give this child a break please).

And then he tries to shot Oosaki too, but right on time SHIZUMA SHOWS UP AND SAVE HIM 😭😭 He also takes Shiodome to the Hachijoujima per boat so he can get treated. Once they all back again there is also a show down with Shizuma and Hinode who tells Hinode he played around with An and dumped her, so she killed herself (which is obviously a lie) but it’s enough to direct all of Hinode’s anger at himself. Anywayyyy.. The routes end with Oosaki suddenly becoming a dad- as in he takes over as Hinode’s caretaker, since he used to live with Toyosu and Toyosu is now in jail. And so, the days of dad Oosaki, his angry son Hinode and his deeply hatred for Shizuma begins. Hinode even writes a plan on the many ways he tries to kill Shizuma HAHAHAHA look at this small baby killer, oh he is so cute.

Also to never miss a chance on hating more on Ariake 👆 Oosaki asks Ariake to help him to buy some clothes for Hinode because he has no idea how to and ARIAKE JUST DUMPS HIM AND FUCKS OFF, HOW CAN YOU BE SUCH A BITCH TOWARDS A CHILD I’M- I don’t even know I hated him already before but after this scene I was just done forever with him. How can such a shitty as character even exist??? Like EVER OTHER  CHARACTER HAS THEIR CHARM POINT only Ariake is human waste beyond return. I’m burning with hatred. Anyways, yes Hinode. I thought Hinode was super cute (maybe because I love children), he was surprisingly strong minded and competitive, and I really liked that about him. He acted accordingly for his age but not like a brat or anything. In the beginning I was worried over his anger but it turned out to be such a minor thing so I don’t mind. Rather I think it makes him even cuter hahaha. His mom was some psycho who raised him like a girl, for some reason and he doesn’t speak, like at all, due to trauma. I’m sad we never got to hear him speak in the end but I hope he learns to speak again (and we get to hear it someday) And talking about the future, despite Hinode not being a LI in the route, if you read the extras you will learn that once Hinode turns 22 he and Oosaki will actually start dating, so he is basically a future LI for Oosaki. Not sure how I feel about it since Oosaki is basically a father figure for him now, but I’m open minded so I wouldn’t mind listening to this story, Kurosawa. 🙏

Funeno

Funeno’s route was-

It felt like a fucking fever dream.  AND IT STARTED OUT SO NORMAL. Obviously Funeno doesn’t die here. Everything goes well after the ceremony they have dinner and the next day they go back to the port, where the boat doesn’t show up obviously but this time Funeno is here and he actually remembers the boat he has and carries it over to the beach so they can escape. They decide that Funeno and Takeshiba should make the ride back, but obviously the plan doesn’t work out and they start fight on the boat causing it to sink and for them being washed up on Ooejima again. Oh, and I also forgot to mention that Shiodome went missing the day before. Now, their next plan is to use the phone, but it turns out the phone had been broken, and all eyes immediately land on Funeno, because he was the last one to go back to get the boat. So, they basically tie him up and take on the job to torture him (like wtf) Takeshiba is a pretty much an ass to Funeno and Ariake also shows his true colours, shocking Oosaki (seriously my boy, it’s so obvious how can you be so blind?), they also look for Shiodome but can’t find him. After they basically strip Funeno (what kind of torture is this?), Funeno confesses that he killed Shiodome accidently after Shiodome tried to threaten him with the red letter and left his corpse in the forest. Oosaki, who is the only one believing in Funeno is innocence, smells that something isn’t right and goes to investigate with Ariake tagging along (ugh). They end up in the warehouse where, apparently Shiodomes things are being stored at, but suddenly they get locked up and a hand reaches from the upper window and set the warehouse on fire. So as they are about to turn crispy, Oosaki remembers that they can survive buy throwing all the burning things into one corner (I think the warehouse is made out of stone? But idk if this would actually work in real life lmao.)

Anyway, the plan works put and they don’t burn to crisp but still get injured, and the next morning they get freed. Oosaki is badly wounded and Shijoumae treats his injury, but due to them he basically has to walk around shirtless and only has his jacked draped over his shoulders AND THIS IS WHEN HELL BREAKS LOSE. It all starts as Oosaki walking along the inn and meeting Ariake. Suddenly Ariake gets extra flirty and first basically hugs Oosaki and then HE PULLS DOWN HIS PANTS AND GIVES HIM A BJ WHAT (we were pretty annoyed to be honest because it was going into another Ariake route 2 way) Oosaki is super confused too and just tires to escape lmao, so then he meets Shinbashi and tries to talk to him about the Funeno thing and how they need to find the true culprit since Funeno wasn’t the one, who tried to burn them to crisp and while he does so Shinbashi just keep blushing for some reason, and you may thing he is blushing because Oosaki is standing in front of him shirtless and yes he does look hot

but then then Shinbashi calls him a weirdo and a pervert and we learn what the actual problem is Oosaki’s little Oosaki has developed his own life, yes he has an erection. Shinbashi completely freaks out, Oosaki on the other hand is calm and says that it’s just a physical reaction and he should ignore that (Oosaki is the only man who doesn’t think with his dick and has full control over his desire, really impressive). Shinbashi of course doesn’t do that, instead he misunderstands when Oosaki say they should call Aomi, which they do. Shinbashi then say to Aomi that he wants to “match roads” with him, which of course is just a big misunderstanding. Oosaki just wants to talk to Aomi because he thinks Aomi would listen to him which he does, but Shinbashi just constantly exposes Oosakis dick (Shinbashi is a pervert himself tbh he just pretends he isn’t, in the extras you can see that his sexual desire is a 4/4 man is horny on main), then also Ariake joins the chaos and they begin to fight over Oosaki’s dick and grabbing it at some point even Aomi joins???? (What the hell was Kurosawa even smoking?) Anyway, Oosaki manages to escape….but not before running into Toyosu…with his dick still exposed….Even Toyosu was fucking blushing. Of course, right after there is more drama because Takeshiba comes in running saying Funeno has escape and is now running on the island naked…great more chaos. Here we also learn that apparently everyone suddenly got horny for Oosaki because of some toxins, that got stuck on him when he walked around the forest because they used the island for who knows what during WW2. Is that really true though? Idk never really gets explained. Anyway, after more wtf dialogue and Takeshiba trying to push Oosaki down (which actually leads to Oosaki blushing lmao), Oosaki escapes and goes searching for Funeno and finds him in the burned warehouse and because he is naked, he gives him his underwear? Okay. Oosaki asks him if he is really sure if Shiodome died during the conflict because Oosaki thinks that he actually survived, so after their short meet up he goes back to the forest where he find Shiodome, alive, talking to the phone he broke with a bloody face… on a tree…. I know Shiodome was never sane but man really lost the last of his working brain cells. Shiodome tries to shot him with a gun (I forgot where he got it from) but doesn’t hit him and then tells him he doesn’t want to kill him but just dance the mambo with him? Lmao. He then tries to shot him again but Funeno comes suddenly running out the forest and disarms him. So, they drag Shiodome back to the inn and back to bathroom jail.

Now that the true culprit has been found they finally fix the phone and try to get out- but not before everyone starts to get horny for Oosaki again, Oosaki just wants to call for help and get out but the horny group (Ariake, Shinbashi, EVEN AOMI, Takeshiba, Shijoumae why?) basically go horny animal on him and straight up jump him. (Toyosu and Hinode as well as Funeno excuses themselves out before the shit show begins though) And this is where the scene cuts off. The game jumps right to the summary of the island event and then to Oosaki meeting up with Shizuma to deliver him his report and information of the attendees he collected, Funeno also joined because of the whole him being scared of Shizuma thing and him thinking Oosaki is Shizuma. So, its starts out normally but then as Oosaki is talking about the information he collected about the first attendee (Ariake) the game just SHOWS A HSCENE CG IN YOUR FACE with one character after another LMAOOOO. Oosaki just keeps talking about how he often he “interacted” with the people and Shizuma is all like “Is this about sex???? This is about sex, isn’t it????” So yes, after the cut Oosaki HAD SEX WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS, EVEN AOMI lmaoooo and not once but SEVEVERAL ROUNDS (I was dying from laughing). Sure, a way to lose your virginity, man had like 15 rounds of sex lmao. Even with Shiodome who joined in the end lol (Funeno, Toyosu and Hinode were of course not part of it) Man told this all to Shizuma with a calm attitude and even Shizuma was like “Why did you had sex with them???” So yeah interesting route LMAO

Now back to Funeno who is supposed to be the LI of this route. Oosaki visits him one day at his home on Hachijoujima, where Funeno greets him in the cutest Yukata, then they have dinner and Oosaki also gets a cute yukata that matches Funenos. Funeno plays the Koto for him, which is super cute. At bed time Funeno for some reason thought Oosaki would enjoy the presence of a prostitute?? (Man heard him talk about how he fucked 6 dudes, how did he came to this conclusion that Ooaki is straight?) Oosaki of course tells him he doesn’t want that and that he is rather interested in Funeno, and gets all flirty with him, then kisses him and invites him to sleep with him (in the not innocent way) so they go for it lol. I would like to say thank you to Kurosawa to giving me small seme Oosaki after she chickened out last time. The next day Oosaki goes back home but before he leaves he tells Funeno that he wants him to call him by his first name “Hiiro” ❤️ Despite the route being chaotic and horny af the ending is sugar sweet. Also, according to the extras, sugar daddy Shizuma helps to turn Ooejima into a resort where Funeno works and takes care of the vegetation. And Oosaki visits it as Shizuma’s “double” as an excuse to see Funeno lmao what an end. As for Funeno, he was super adorable, I feel bad for him dying almost every route, he didn’t deserve it. But my biggest personal shock in this game was his age HE IS 20 YEARS OLD WHAT I though he is like 40???? WHAT YOU MEAN HE IS A BABY OMG. Also Funeno is canonly gay, nice. Kurosawa mentioned when the game was announced that every character will be straight but apparently, she didn’t stick to it, no way these people are straight. Oh, one thing that did make me kinda mad in this route, even with the relationship, apparently Oosaki will keep the harem because his side bitches are toxic and wont give in easily 😐 no please don’t do that Kurosawa not cool. I really don’t mind the shit that went down before but not in a serious relationship…..not cool at all.

Shizuma

(and now please excuse the following simping)

If you haven’t guessed it from the lines above already, Shizuma is my favourite character in this game. In fact, he has been my favourite, way before the release of it. Let’s go back 3 ½ year. When Ooe was first announced in 2021, the characters were slowly introduced along the way, and when the first artwork of Shizuma dropped I fell in love on first sight. He was completely my taste (funny to say that when everyone has the same eye and hair colour) and I just wanted to have this man. But obviously I knew that he was a side character. So, the following years were spent on me praying that this hot man has a route. I wanted him SO BAD. The constant teasing art of him didn’t help. I didn’t care if he was evil or the mastermind or whatever I just wanted this man. So, when Kurosawa announced that there will be a 10th secret route I was hoping that maybe he was the last route? But at the same time, I was also scared because the last adelta route is cursed and always sucks, disappointing me in every way possible. So, I delulued myself into not believing that he is a route to not get disappointed lmao and boy I was so into him, it wasn’t even funny. Since up to the release we didn’t knew what the last route was, and once the game dropped I basically cut all connection to the outside world to avoid spoiler. That’s why up to the point we finished Funeno I had no idea if he is and route or not and behold HE WAS A ROUTE AFTER ALL YESSSSSS VICTORY 🙌 Not only that it didn’t suck (god I’m so happy) even now I’m still not 100% believe this is reality because my delusion were so strong lol. (Try living in denial for 3 years and you will understand)

It's always risky to like a character before you actually experience his story but I was far, far too gone already. When the demo of the game first dropped I wasn’t actually that trilled with Shizuma, he was kinda cringe and obviously shady (though that didn’t bother me much, he had always been shady), but after playing the first route when the first part of the game came out I fell even harder for him. I know this is super ridiculous to say but when he showed up in the end of Ariakes route, after all the shit that went down and me with my dislike for both MC and LI in that moment Shizuma felt like the most sane character in this game, so I was completely gone once again (Also his cute look helped too) and went back to being a Shizuma simp again, but harder this time. After the first part I had a very good impression of him. He was the funny, chill character, the only one to use casually speech (a part I really like about him) a bit extreme horny (but this was also announced pre game, I mean the first art of him has him showing his nipple standing butt naked behind Oosaki lol), but oh boy I wasn’t ready for what part 2 had to deliver. Right from the first route Shizuma felt different, more serious way more affectionate. Since he gives off a shady atmosphere you expect him to be sly, but he wasn’t at all. Instead, he was worried over Oosaki and regretted some of his choices. It broke my heart when in Shiodomes end B Shiodome mentioned that Shizuma liked Oosaki. And in the following routes he didn’t save Oosaki’s life once but even twice. Stopping him from committing suicide after all the shit that went down with Shijoumae. The lines were my favourite I was almost crying in this scene, the way he was just hugging Oosaki from behind was just so loving. 😭

From this point on I doubt that he was actually a killer (since he was supposed to have killed his brother) and I thought that he must have been a good person all along because no way can you be so kind and still be evil in some way, his words felt too honest for it to be an act. Even in Hinode’s when he said that he was just playing around it felt like a big lie, Oosaki also agreed, it was like he deliberately wanted to be hated. And as expected when you play his route you learn he has been a good person all along. This route is completely different since he is the one going to Ooejima and not Oosaki, instead Oosaki stays behind at his summer house and awaits his calls. In the beginning he acts like always but slowly Oosaki notices what is going behind all of this. Shizuma isn’t Shizuma but his own brother Sukekiyo who is only pretending to be Shizuma because he wants to take over the sins of his brother, who was the one who actually committed suicide (Also I read the book “the inugami family” Kurosawa based the daiba family on where Shizuma and Sukekiyo also switch roles, so it was an easy guess). His brother was apparently really shitty and was the one who played around with An leading to all of this. Shizuma himself (I’m going to continue calling Sukekiyo Shizuma like the game does) is super kind, which is also why he was actually staying secretly at Hachijoujima the whole time, worried about Oosaki and why he could show up on time to save him. Since making sure Oosaki was safe was his priority. Oh, and he was actually married but after the whole incident his marriage also shattered (and to be honest I may be a heartless person for saying this but this is BL so I can’t give less of a shit about his ex-wife, I always disliked putting any girlfriend/wife/children topics in BL).  

The reason he wanted to be brothers with Oosaki, was because Oosaki reminded him of his brother and all this man wanted in his life was to have a happy family but instead his whole family died, and he was left alone and now has serious commitment issues….Wow this is a lot of baggage I didn’t expect from his character. Not only that but he actually asked Oosaki to kill him, which lead to Oosaki crying his eyes out (damn this was a lot to take in, especially since Shizuma was always such a fun character, but turns out he had been a sad boy all along). Why are all the good boys in this game blaming themselves? Shizuma, Aomi, Oosaki. The game makes you think Shizuma is the mastermind because he himself wants you believe it, which is honestly just sad. In the end I’m actually really glad that Shizuma turned out to be so kind, not that I wouldn’t have taken him in another way, but I love the good boys, so I’ll gladly take him as my son. I just hope he learns to love again and stops to take the blame. He is really bad at showing his emotion so it’s always hard to tell when he is lying. It says that after he met Oosaki his life improved and I really hope Oosaki will help him to love again so I wish him all the best. ❤️ And now back to the simping part lol. Anyway once the whole island part is over and Shizuma nearly dies being stabbed, Oosaki finds him at the graveyard one day and Shizuma invites him over to visit his atelier (finally Ive been waiting for this lol). And already on the way Oosaki’s true intentions beginning to show because he gets jealous with everyone Shizuma interacts with LMAO, once they at the atelier they talk about art and about Shizuma’s ex-wife, who Oosaki actually meet during his stay and Oosaki then ask if Shizuma still likes his ex-wife and after that straight up confesses LMAO what a timing. Shizuma as sly as always pulls the whole “I just want to be brothers” thing (to be honest it’s impossible to tell if he is telling the true or not), but tries to be super suggestive when doing so and Oosaki just gets pissed and pushes him onto the bed lol.

Shizuma tries to pull some onii-san fantasy kink lmao (no they are in fact not related, and jesus I’m so happy when this was finally clear, since it could have been a possibility), but then it turns into some paint kink?? (I don’t even know). Oosaki tries to kiss him but gets rejected because, Shizuma who is allergic to wheat can’t kiss anyone who eat any wheat products, but Oosaki says he hadn’t eaten anything and has no problem cutting things out of his diet, since he has no preference lol (man heard Shizuma is allergic to wheat and said goodbye to wheat forever, true love). Then they finally do kiss and strip off their clothes and we get this beautiful cg of Shizuma lying naked in bed making the lewd hands signs he always does in artworks and what does Oosaki do? HE LEAVE THE FUCKING ROOM TO TAKE A SHOWER (virgin reveal) boy…… Honestly, he can be happy Shizuma didn’t run away but I seriously wonder how much of an act Shizuma is actually pulling because I’m sure most things he was saying was just to piss off Oosaki and boy did it work. Anyway, once Oosaki returns we finally get to see Shizuma’s true power bottom potentials YES FINALLY, to be honest when I saw him the first time I was hoping to see him power bottom AND KUROSAWA DELIVERED 🙏 I am so grateful I will never insult you again, Kurosawa🙏 . Shizuma absolutely destroyed Oosaki in bed LMAO Oosaki was the one moaning, he even called him “virgin boy” AHAHAHA. Yeah, obviously Shizuma has experience (I’m not even surprised) and always bottoms according to him. Oosaki of course didn’t let this shame stay on him and tried to pull the reverse card lol. This turned into serious competition sex, also didn’t help that Shizuma had hickeys on him from his last partner and was talking about how Oosaki is his 108 person (if you didn’t know in Japan they let the new year’s bell ring 108 times to free yourself from your 108 worldly desires), making Oosaki even more jealous, so he fought back and said he won’t stop until Oosaki will become his only one (yes go on son fight for your lover), then Oosaki completely went feral on Shizuma lmao this poor man. I’m honestly impressed of Oosaki’s stamia, even as a virgin he can do several rounds, very impressive. So yes I’m very biased for Shizuma so of course he is my favourite route, he is the route that only true Shizuma simps can enjoy. Like me lmao Once again I would like to thank Kurosawa for giving me the most perfect Shizuma power bottom CG I will never forget it, all my dreams came true in that moment, I am truly blessed.

Oosaki

Adelta’s first seme protagonist. When he was first announced I thought he was going to be the stone type but it turned out despite Oosaki’s face, he is actually pretty emotional. His voice also doesn’t feel cold, and you can tell he truly means what he says. I went a whole circle with Oosaki as a character. My first impression was very neutral, when I played the demo, he was the one I was most interested in. He was a very depressed boy so I wanted him to get better. After the first route I honestly just disliked him, he had turned into the cold seme type I hated. And even after the second and third route my affection for him hadn’t been restored to the one I had in the beginning, so I was really worried because I didn’t want to dislike him. Luckily his terrible transformation in the first route and the rape in the second route were the biggest “whoopsies” about him and the rest of the game went smoothly, so in the end I can say that I ended up really liking him. He is cute, surprisingly emotional and honestly a very adorable lover and he treats his partners well (if he isn’t burning from jealousy lmao, I’m totally lying I was slurping that shit up) It’s a bit confusing to understand at first why he is falling for the LI but I come to the conclusion that there are two ways that will make Oosaki fall in love. Number one is when someone proofs him his life is worth by either telling him that or saving his life, like with Shinbashi, Ariake or Shiodome (A). The other way is when LI is a weak man, he wants to save and protect. Man really said “pathetic loser are my taste “(kinda understandable though). Also, I don’t care what Kurosawa says I will headcanon this man as gay, because nothing in this game has ever hinted at him being into woman ever, even his first love was a boy (the only good thing to come out of the cursed first route).

My boy has deep hatred for himself because he was born out of incest, which he can’t even do anything about??? Like my boy it’s not your fault stopping blaming yourself over it. And also, over the fact that he is responsible for the death of his grandma, who set herself on fire after she found out he beat up a child. Honestly, Oosaki himself was still a stupid child back then and children do stupid shit, so his grandma’s reaction was a bit…. extreme. And now he is scarred (literally on his hands) for life. I was kinda expecting a route to show how Oosaki gets over his past and forgives himself (even if there is nothing to forgive in my opinion), but that never happened sadly, though in the extras it says that he will learn to forgive in the end so I’m glad it will happen at some point at least. I also love how in the future he will help ex-criminals to make a fresh start. His happiness always depends on the ending, since some of the endings lead to even more misery for him, but I feel really sorry for him so I want him to have bright future and a loving partner.

Artwork & Musik

The art in the game is phenomenal. All CGs including the background are drawn by Kurosawa and damn she improved so much since her last game. I’m biased once again since her style is my absolute favourite, the way she shades just looks so good, the skin of the characters looks so juicy- okay I’m going into the simping again but damn, all character looked so HOT especially Aomi, no matter what he did, even when he was being chocked, a pleasure for the eye. I feel like some scene could have more Cgs and once again total lack of Kiss CGs, only Ariake and Shinbashi got one, KUROSAWA IF YOU’RE READING THIS I NEED MORE KISS CGS ONEGAIITASHIMASU. Even the background Cgs looked sexy, you will never see such good-looking furniture ever again. A visual masterpiece.

As for the music in the game, sadly there is no opening song which sucks, and according to Kurosawa it has no because the game is supposed to be serious but? Idk what this has to do with OP, plenty serious games have an opening theme, it just has to match the vibe so yeah I wish the game had one. As for the ending songs, they are bangers like always, 4 ending songs, with most ending songs being shared between characters, except Shinbashi who has his own ending song. I fucking hate that Shizuma shares an ending song with Ariake?? Also why is this stupid bitch the only one that got an extra music video? Kurosawa your favourism is seriously annoying and all it does is make me hate the character even more. At least don’t make it so obvious, your taste is terrible. I feel like Aomi’s/Funeno’s ending song is the most unique song out of those four. The Ost is also great, it always matched the game very well and has some banger tracks like always. As for general sounds I feel like some sounds were weird and didn’t sound like what they are supposed to, and also this time we had sex sfw and no just no, I didn’t not like them at all, once I found out you can turn them off I have never turned them on again, my poor ears have been violated and my poor eyes abused from the first hscene enough.

Conclusion

A masterpiece? Obviously, I had minor complaints (Ariake) and some criticism (Ariake), but apart from them, I had such a good time playing this game. The story, the pacing, the characters, everything was so good. Kurosawa improved a lot since her last game, this game felt way more balanced than her others and I’m glad she took her time to write it because it surely paid off. I played in a time span of a week and it was the craziest week of my game life. Since every route is different from another one, it felt like a wild roller coaster ride, where you don’t know what’s coming next. The emotions were all over the place, but I could finally finish an Adelta game without feeling mad or angry and just feel fulfilled. Also, I hope we get to see more content for this game. I’m really looking forward to the after stories and hopefully more SS in the future.

Of course, I fully recommend this game to everyone wanting to play some mystery, detective, full on madness game, and everyone who just wants to see pretty boys’ kiss.

A white, wood grain dresser was standing in a bedroom. It had been placed there nine months ago. As usual, I sat in front of it, looking in its mirror and doing my make up. An old Christmas song by Frank Sinatra was playing on the radio. Applying my lipstick, as orange as the evening sun, I sang along to his melody.

Suddenly the radio crackled, and a formal Japanese voice cut through the music. I faced toward it, my lips forming the words “Oh, by gosh.”             “We are continuing to reporting on the phenomenon that synchronises the heartbeats of people in your immediate vicinity.” “As far as we know, no deaths have occurred to date.” “All those affected are advised to remain as calm as possible and…”

Oh my, it was happening again. I’m sure the announcer felt the same way I did. As soon as he had finished reading his stiff lines, he promptly returned the broadcast back to Sinatra. But Sinatra’s song had already finished, ending with him whispering a final “Merry Christmas”. I decided to quietly turn off the radio and leave the bedroom. It was 6 p.m. in Tokyo. The sky had taken on the dark blue colour of the night, with only a string of orange left at the horizon. The city heading towards Christmas, was decorated and wrapped in a warm neon lights. A hectic and restless atmosphere hung in the air; it was like you’d get swept away by someone if you hesitated your steps. In the middle of it was Shirou, with the usual arrogant expression on his face. He was standing next to the Setagaya Station, in front of an old message board. The weak lights of the Christmas decorations were sparkling on his head. “…..” He looked up when he noticed me. Ba-dum My heart jumped the moment our eyes met. …The left side of my chest began to burn, the sensation spreading through my body, as if someone had thrust a knife in me and blood was oozing out. …What was that? That feeling. As I crossed paths with the people leaving the station, I stopped short. Every single one of them was holding onto their chests, rushing past me. The radio had mentioned something about a “phenomenon that synchronises the heartbeats of people in your immediate vicinity.”, right? …Which meant the reason for my heart beating this way was Shirou. We looked at each other as the crowd passed me, a small smile playing on my lips. Once the crowed had vanished, I walked up to him and greeted him in a formal manner. “Good evening.” “…..” “How long have you been waiting?” “Doesn’t matter.” “Your nose is red. You seem cold.” “…Let’s just hurry up and go.” Shirou said, exhaling a long, white breath. Instead of the trains, he faced the direction of the arcade. The reason why we ended up meeting in front of the station goes as follows: When I woke up this morning, a letter was laying by my pillow. Written on it in clean, formal handwriting was something along the lines of… “6 pm. I’ll be waiting at the Setagaya Station.” Any other person would probably think that whoever had wrote the letter was challenging them to a fight, but I immediately knew that it had been a love letter from Shirou. I wrote “I understand” on the back, then turned it around and handed it to him. The rest of the day went by, just like every other day off. Shirou did some repairs on his camera, while I made a simple meal for lunch. Then we watched TV together in the bedroom. However around 5 pm. Shirou disappeared. It was then that I got dressed and came to the station. “Why did you write me a letter?” I asked him as we walked together through the city. Normally I would have asked him about it right away, but it wasn’t the most romantic atmosphere at home, so I decided against it. “Because you wouldn’t wake up.” “Oh my.” Not a very romantic reason. Even if it had been fun, it felt like our relationship as lovers was growing in distance.

“Tell me, why do you always sleep so long?” “Since we had the day was off and there was nothing I could help with, I thought that it would be fine to sleep in for once.” “For once? Who’s the one who keeps going back to sleep shortly after waking up when I’m working…?” “I do that?” “You always say, ‘just a bit more’ and then you’re asleep two seconds later.” “Being awake for just two seconds doesn’t count. Which means I don’t wake up at all and just sleep the whole time.” “~Well that may be true!?” Shirou’s lives a meticulous life, he sleeps no more or no less than seven hours a day. I, on the other hand, can sleep for ten full hours, and even then, I still want to sleep more. For now, he seemed to have accepted my response and gave up on the argument. “…. Whatever.  Just stop turning off the alarm at my place.” “I do that too?” “You do.” “I don’t think I do, though….” “…Should I install a video camera to show you evidence?” “You’re saying such lewd things…” “Hha?!” “Going all the way to buy a video camera and putting it in the bedroom…” “Don’t say that shit outside….!!!” Shirou yelled at me in an usually quiet voice, with a panicked looked on his face. A passerby grabbed their chest and collapsed. They needed help, but Shirou just walked away loudy. I-I’m sure the person should be fine with the distance between them…. I also was a bit mean to him. Shirou’s heart was delicate, so even if you were to tease it just a bit, it would start beating faster. And its throbbing was also affecting me, making it hard to breath. Shirou had the same indifferent expression on his face and probably didn’t even notice the change that was happening around him and inside me. …Maybe he didn’t even know that another incident was happening again. If I hadn’t listened to the radio, I myself would have gone to the hospital thinking I have a disease. …Even now, the city was filled with strange phenomena. Every week something strange happened, as though we were in an anime. What’s happening or who’s responsible— these were questions I couldn’t answer. Stuck in my own confusion, the phenomena were over before I even noticed it. Or rather, should I say, until someone put it to an end, without us having to intervene. In my mind, we were becoming background characters in an anime with the names like “Citizens A”. And I was happy about that. “Where are you taking me today?” “…” This year’s Christmas would take place on a weekday, so Shirou would have to work. I wondered what it would be like if we could go to a party at a nice house….

But even if it was impossible, I wouldn’t feel lonely staying at home. After all, he had invited me to meet him at this place right before Christmas. “Should I have high expectation, then?” I looked at Shirou while asking. His eyebrows were hidden, and his lips pursed in an angry expression. And yet his cheeks were turning red, he was blushing. …I started to feel dizzy again. The cause was his heartbeat.   Why did I keep getting caught up over Shirou’s heart every single time….? Why couldn’t I just walk after him in silence? Once I noticed that he had some kind of surprise for me, it made me so happy that I just couldn’t keep myself from asking unnecessary questions. “Christmas…will be here soon… that’s why…” “That’s right.” “…The city looks pretty, right?” “It does.” “…And that’s the reason I wanted to go together with you.” My heart was throbbing. “Nothing else. There was no particular place I wanted to go to…” It was hard to breath. “…Are you disappointed?” I stopped walking. The moment Shirou had said the city lights were pretty, they suddenly looked even more dazzling and beautiful to me. Shirou turned around. In front of a big Christmas tree by the entrance of an arcade. “Did you think I had something for you?... Actually yes, I do, so follow me.” “!” (Wait a second.) (Wait!) (What?) I could see the small box partially peeking out from his pocket. “Hurry up and come!” “Wa-wait!” (Ri-right now.) (It isn’t the time for that!) “Just come over here.” “…!”

I grasped my chest. But for the sake of being by his side, and to keep his mouth closed, I mustered my strength and walked over to him. “Your ring, I know I was the one who gave it to you…” “Um, wait a moment-” (Let’s stop it for today.) It looked like the halo of an angel, making me think I had already died. My knees gave in, and I collapse on the ground like someone had cut the threads, that were holding me upright. Only on one knee was keeping me up. Covering my mouth with my hands, I desperately tried to calm down my heart. Shirou was looking down on me, a hard expression formed on his face.” “Ha….?” “Forgive me…” “….” “I can’t take Shirou’s heartbeats anymore…!” “I’m the one who is suffering here, though!?” “…?” “You’re affecting me here! Our synchronised heartbeats are your fault!” “You’re wrong, it’s yours.” “It’s your fault, idiot…. Just hurry and take a deep breath!” “……” I took a three-second-long breath, then exhaled for another five seconds just as Shirou had instructed me. Wanting to live, I breathed deeply with my hands still over covering my mouth. As the air slowly flowed in and out of my body, my heartbeat mysteriously also began to calm down. …I looked up at Shirou once again. His eyebrow was raised, then he sighed out of relief and amazement at the same time. Then what in the world…. “I had thought you were causing the heartbeats the whole time, so then what was that?” “How should I know.” “When I got the letter from you, I looked at the calendar and just assumed. Now hurry up and hold out your finger!” The ring Shirou presented was sparkling so beautifully, like it wasn’t made in this world. I’m sure it took him a lot of time to decide on it. Looking for it on his way home and in unfamiliar places, always with me on his mind.

I knew that because the ring had the same white colour as my hero form. Still kneeling in front of him like a knight, I presented my left hand to Shirou. He took off the ring. Then placed the new, bigger ring on my cold ring finger. It felt heavy and hot, but also soft like it could dissolve any moment. Shirou returned the other ring back to the case. …Every time I had been in pain, I had kissed the ring like a prayer. And had extended the size, just to not get rid of it. The way Shirou covered the almost broken ring told me he knew all about that. “…Your heartbeats are getting worse again.” “It’s all your fault.” “~You’re still saying that?!” It was true that my heart was beating fast, and you were the one who had set it off. So, it was your fault after all. I finally stood up. Once I straightened my posture, Shirou raised his head and gave me a bored look. “Now, let’s go to the hospital.” “You always say that, when something happens. This is probably the work of a kaiju, so we just have to rely on the help of a hero.” “And you’re the one who always responds with this…” Shirou suddenly started walking away. “I’m done here, let’s head back home.” Even if he sounded angry, he didn’t let go of my left hand. I looked back from the corner of my eyes. In a few days, everything, even the beautiful Christmas tree would be gone. But soon a new season would begin, and new decorations would probably light up the city again. Someday Sangenjaya would develop, and big buildings like the one in Shibuya would be standing there. And once that happened, I would like to look down on its nightscape and talk about today’s Christmas memory.

Gakuen Heaven Review

Gakuen Heaven is a very iconic BL game from the early 2000s, it received a Fandisk, an anime and a second game with a new MC and new love interest after 10 years of the main game’s release. This time I played the game together with my friends and we decided to play the PSP version with an emulator, because the PC version is not voiced. The PSP version has no H-scenes (they are just hinting at it) but I was willing to scarify that for the voice acting, it made a big difference so no regrets there. (Only the quality was a bit 360p in the PSP version lol)

Description

Ito Keita, an average high school boy, is surprised to receive an acceptance letter from the renowned Bell Liberty Academy, BL school for short (yes this is what they call the school lmoa, the joke never get old). After being involved in an accident, on the day of his transfer, Keita finds himself among a variety of unique people... but what is Keita's "special ability"? Will he truly be accepted into this school full of elite students?

Story

If you have watched the anime, you pretty much know what happens in this game. Keita gets accepted to BL school after the school year has already started. He arrives after his bus flies off the bridge, completely unharmed because if there is one thing Keita is good at, it’s being lucky. There he meets the king (the student council president) and the queen (the head of the school accounting department and a beauty) and after it all the other characters, his classmate Kazuki (who is overly too friendly with him), Nakajima the (vice president of student council and basically the king’s mother/wife), Omi (also working for the accounting department and the childhood friend of the queen), Shinomiya (a pro at Kyudo), Shunsuke (a boy from Osaka who is good at riding his bike and loves food), Iwai (a depressed artist), Naruse (the school’s playboy and an amazing tennis player) and Umino-sensei (who teaches biology and looks illegally young). Yes, this game has 10 love interest. In the following weeks Keita gets to hang out and to know all of these people. And that’s basically the common route of the game, it may sound boring, but the characters interactions are really fun and entertaining. Everyone has a distinct personally (even if some of the have very stereotypical one). The games plot mostly revolves around the characters and MC, so if you expect some kind of exiting adventure, you’re at the wrong place. The characters route begin around the 3rd week, when Keita gets suddenly called by the vice director and is told he has to leave school, because his admission to BL school was a mistake, so the board of directors decided to kick him out since he no special talent and therefore doesn’t belong in the school. Keita is of course very sad about it since he started to like the school and its students. So, he seeks for advice from the other character, who tell him to go directly to the director of the school. Keita tries that but the director of the school is a mystery; no one know how he looks like or where you can find him (dude is never in his office). Frustrated Keita speaks with Kazuki who tells him that he could just write a mail to the director, which he does. In the mail he states that he wants to stay at the school and ask if the director could help him with his situation. Well, as it seems the director listened to him, because the next day all students get called for a gathering, where a stuff bear (yes you read that right) who is a substitute for the mysterious director, announces a MVP battle where all students can participate in and the winner will have a wish granted by the director. The battle has 3 rounds, and you have to play in pairs. If you watched the anime, I can already tell you the battles are a bit different in the game. In the first round you have to catch in a mini game hamster (yeah idk). You can either do it by yourself, let your partner do it or do it together (and my god some of these guys suck ass at this game). In the second route you have to do a quiz on the subjects of your choice (usually the one related to your LI) and let me tell you these quizzes are hard af. First of all, they are all in Japanese and second, if you think these are some simple questions like ‘what is 2+2’ you’re greatly mistaken. They ask you really hard question about Japanese history and literature and biology and what not. Once again you can let your partner answer but some if these dudes are idiots and can answer wrong. But if you survive this round, the last round is super easy, since it’s all about Keita’s strongest subject: luck. You just have to choose between two cards, and no matter which you choose you won’t lose. During the MVP battle you basically play your partners (the LI of your choice) route. The content of them all depends on the LI you choose.

I also need to mention that if you watched the anime, the part where the school nurse goes crazy and kidnaps Keita is completely made up by the anime, while the part with his friend being in coma is true, the other part after it was created for drama purposes, I guess? But he did tell Keita about his friend and Keita tried to help him together with Kazuki, so yeah there is that.

Characters

Naruse Yukihiko

Naruse is the first character who’s route we accidently ended up on (wasn’t our first choice but we didn’t want to redo it). Like said Naruse is the playboy of the school, he is also called a “playboy” by the other characters. Beside that he is also an excellent tennis player and the captain of the tennis club. He falls in love with Keita on first sight and kisses him on the first day lmao (or not if you make the right choices). Keita is, of course shocked why another guy just kissed him, and this starts the never-ending circle of “but we are both men”. You see, Keita has a terrible case of internal homophobia (or he just never heard of being gay). Naruse, with his extreme bisexual energy, has no problem and doesn’t care if anyone knows he like Keita (pretty sure the whole school knew after 2 days). He always tells Keita that he loves him and calls him “honey” as a nickname, with Keita always countering it with “but we’re both men” … Naruse tries pretty hard to convey his love, he makes bento for Keita, kisses him constantly (Keita was even into it at some point) always tells him he likes him and also explains why he like Keita. He also mentions that he doesn’t care that Keita is a guy and he takes him on dates to romantic place and yet KEITA ALWAYS ANSWERS WITH “BUT WE’RE BOTH MEN” AAAAHHH- *smashes head against wall* Despite my dislike toward the playboy type I can say Naruse was really nice and voiced by Miki Shinichiro of course, cough sexy voice cough I am biased cough and trying so, so hard and yet Keita never took his love seriously, it’s not like he had to like Naruse back but Keita just never took Naruse seriously. Naruse was a really good boy though, he never went against Keita’s wishes, never took advantage of him and always told Keita he would never touch Keita (in the indecent way) if Keita didn’t want it himself. Man is the biggest green flag, seriously. The route was basically just Naruse trying to woo Keita and Keita rejecting him with “gay is not real”, only in the fucking end Keita realised that Naruse maybe really was serious……. *smashes head against the wall again* and also realises that he is in love with Naruse too so he run to Naruse’s training and screams that he loves Naruse too with the whole club listening (and I’m sure no one gives a shit at a school called “BL school”) . Naruse is overjoyed and picks Keita up and carried him to him room for some sexy times (not shown in the PSP version but me and my friend peaked into the PC game and they only showed the foreplay and skipped the actual sex lol) I’m honestly glad we played Naruse first because his route is my (and all of my friends who joined for his route) personal frustration with Keita as a character. I really love Keita but damn his internal homophobia was so bad in this route that we all we’re just screaming at the screen at some point. Naruse himself was really nice, still not my type but I understand his charm (And I wish they would stop giving Miki Shinichirou the playboy role because his voice is hot, but I just don’t like this stupid character trope). Also, I feel like compared to the anime he was less annoying and just overall better, and I feel like if Keita wasn’t so anti-gay, Naruse would have been even more enjoyable.

Umino Satoshi

Although Umino is 24 years old, he looks like is 12. Even Keita mistook him for an elementary student (Can’t blame him). He also has a really fat cat called Tonosama who always looks like high af. Umino sensei is not only a biology teacher, who is quite popular with the students, but also works as a researcher for the Suzubishi group, that this school belongs to, and that’s what most of his route is about. Keita gets interested into Umino’s research and ask to help him, even if he doesn’t understand what Umino is talking about. Honest his route was boring since it mostly consists of research talk (not a very good topic for a bl game in my opinion) and I found myself zooming out for most of the time. (Nothing against biology but after a hard day of work I imagine something more fun than watching 2D characters talk about cells) The real “fun” of this route is when one day Umino’s research data get stolen. Keita is shocked but Umino tells him that it always happens and that he doesn’t care because he isn’t looking for fame and just want to be helpful. And this is the part that really pissed me off in this route, Keita was really pissed at his attitude, but for this route good end you needed to make choices that immediately throws Keita’s anger out of the window. Once this topic comes up again, Keita gets mad, then you have to make a choice and suddenly Keita is all chill again and always answers with “That’s so you, Umino sensei” Like what???” The “climax” of the route is when Keita walks into the room of Umino after one of the MVP battles and sees that another teacher hat tied him down. He was the one who stole the research data and is now trying to get the password out of him. Keita tries his best to convince Umino not to tell the guy, but he ends up doing it anyway after being beaten (and I think even raped in the PC version). So, the dude escapes and you know what Keita and Umino do? N O T H I N G absolutely NOTHING. Not tell the police or the director or anything at all, like wtf??? After removing Keita’s anger, we also removed all his common sense or what? This made me so pissed because Keita normally doesn’t take anyone’s shit but here he doesn’t even try and say “that’s so you Umino sensei” What was the writer ever thinking? Anyway the route ends with the dude never actually getting the data because he understand the password wrong and Keita being so happy over it that he kisses Umino, who is also like “Oh yeah I totally like you, too”. Strange is that they don’t even mention anything about the student-teacher relationship at all, like it’s totally normal. Can’t even decide who needs to be jailed here, Umino for dating a student or Keita for dating someone who looks like 12. Oh and Keita also tops (didn’t mention yet but Keita can be top/bottom depending on his partner) and they constantly fuck in the biology room…..Umino-sensei himself was annoying, I don’t like the “hehe I’m so cute and clumsy”- type, they make me mad for some reason, and him being weak and just getting stepped on didn’t help either.

Nakajima Hideaki

Nakajima is the classic Megane, and not only that he is a Spray Megane (Spray are the one who made Kichiku Megane who I was totally fan of not). He is always mothering the king who is busy being lazy. Outside his route, his interactions are really fun because he is not taking anyone’s shit (especially the king’s). He is very smart, responsible and mostly how you imagine a Megane to be (except that he doesn’t speak polite). Nakajima’s route start with classic sexual harassment, which Keita really doesn’t take well and gets so upset about, that he doesn’t want to see Nakajima for a while (understandable, poor baby) but you have to interact with him, the game forces you to do it. Keita then starts spending time with Nakajima and is actually surprised to learn that Nakajima is actually a pretty nice guy, who even takes Keita out on dates (to an BDMS show lmao, sadly not show in neither version of the game, but Keita seemed to have liked it in some way). He also willing to help Keita with the MVP battle. During it another sexual harassment scene happened, which again upsets Keita. After the MVP battle, Keita is called by 3 guys who are mad at him because he stopped their confrontation with Nakajima, and he gets beaten up by them. Then Nakajima arrives kicks their asses and save Keita. After it is the whole confession scene, with Nakajima telling Keita that he does like him and viva versa.

And now let’s get to my commentary of this route. First, I like to say that I HATE the writer for this route (so does my friend who played with me) and not for the reason you think. I hate the writer because Nakajima’s route was actually good, but they had to ruin it through unnecessary sexual harassment, which ended up feeling completely ooc in the end. Yes, Nakajima is clearly a sadist and loves to tease Keita, but he was genius nice and helpful to Keita 95% of the route, only these random ass scenes mad the route really bitter. The worst part is that Nakajima explained in the end that he first sexual harassed Keita because he wanted Keita to be interested in him (worst excuse ever writer-san) since it turns out the director actually asked him to be basically Keita’s bodyguard. Man is out there working his ass off protecting Keita and writer though “hmm needs more sexual abuse” AJDAKKAJD I’m seriously so mad. “How to mess up a good route 101”. Keita and Nakajima had more than enough time to develop a good relationship and they did. But noooo need more sexual harassment *spits on writer*. The second scenes felt even more ooc because this was already far into the route where Keita already start liking Nakajima and was thanking him for helping him with the MVP battle and out of nowhere Nakajima pushed him in a closet and told him, how Keita seriously thinks he doesn’t need to repay the favour for helping him with the MVP battle and sexually harasses him right there.(Not shown in the PSP version but I saw what you did with the pencil Nakajima) It was just so stupid and out of nowhere. Later he tells Keita that he pushed him into the closet because the three guys, who later beat him up were looking for him and, okay that’s a decent reason, BUT NOT A VALID REASON FOR SEXUAL HARRASEMNT, WRITER *spits on them again*. Worst part is that Keita noticed his love for Nakajima not by getting reminded of all the good times they spent together, nooo he needed to think back to the sexual harassment. Ugh, I know I shouldn’t get mad over a 2002 game but this a serious problem that still happens in modern game, where the writers think forcing random sex/sexual assault is a good idea, which just ends up ruining the character and the route. And I don’t care, twitter kiddies can cry, scream and call my all names in the universe, but I’ll still say it again: Forced sexual scenes only ruin the character and story and I want them gone from BL games.

Despite my deeply rooted anger, if I close my eyes and pretend those scenes never happened, I can say that I enjoyed the route and Nakajima more than I thought even if he was sadist he was really kind to Keita and their relationship development felt more or less natural. I just go and continue to curse the writer.

Kazuki Endo

If you have watched the anime, you know pretty much all of Kazuki’s route because his route was the one that was animated. His route is or can be considered the “true route”, but personally I don’t consider it to be. Kazuki is the first-person Keita makes friends with since they are classmates. Kazuki is a rather friendly person who sticks a little too close to Keita and always follows him everywhere, which I thought was annoying. Personally, I’m not a fan of Kazuki, he is just not my type of character, and I thought the romance development wasn’t done that well in his route (you can guess why). You have to play Kazuki’s route two times; the first time you’ll only get the normal end and the second time you get the happy end. Most of his normal route consisted of Kazuki hanging around with Keita, him fighting with Naruse over Keita (with Naruse beating his ass with sass) and going on a date with Keita (they had no chemistry at all, and I felt like they were talking past each other). Only in the end we (or rather Keita) learn Kazuki’s true intentions after he kisses Keita on the cheek. Keita is so shocked to learn that Kazuki was actually trying to woo Keita all this time, just like Naruse (Keita actually thought about the possibility before when Kazuki and Naruse had their sass fight but had thrown the idea to the side after his internal homophobia striking again). And this is basically where the route ends. The second time you play the route there will be more scenes with them together as well as Keita starting to have some déjà vu’s and dreams of his past. Well, turns out Kazuki is the classic childhood friend character (*sarcastic* wuhu) and that Keita used to play with Kazuki when he was a small child, but later Kazuki had to move away, which saddened Keita so Kazuki promising that they would go to school together one day. Keita suspects that Kazuki is the oniichan he used to play with but isn’t fully sure. After MVP battel, Keita is invites to the director’s office to make his wish, Kazuki is nowhere to be found so Keita goes alone. Well, turns out Kazuki has been the fucking director all along lmaooo and he invited Keita to the school so he could fulfil his promise to go to the same school together and to live his gay dream (even Keita thinks that this is a bit ridiculous). Keita is so shocked that the poor guy can’t even get a full sentence out. Because not only has Kazuki has told him that he is the director but also his oniichan from the past. Also, btw Kazuki is actually older (even if we have never found his age and he was just pretending to be a student.) Anyway, after a bit of talk, Kazuki confesses and Keita decides he is gay as hell suddenly and they confess to each other like 7 times (seriously the confession took way too long), before finally kissing and fuck right there in the director’s office in the PC version and that’s basically the whole route. The romance was rather meh, since there wasn’t a moment Keita actually realised his feeling himself which he did in most of the route. Also, I have question why Kazuki has the hots for Keita, who he only met when Keita was like 5 years old or something. But despites few complains the route was enjoyable to play, it had many funny scenes and Keita’s reaction to director Kazuki was hilarious. I have to say that despite me not being into Kazuki I though he was a great director, really cared about the students and let them have their own freedom. Also, Idk how this man can be a student + director + the research lab chef AND still have time to be a part in the handicraft club (granny hobby) while stalking Keita. Does he even sleep? We will never know. Compared to the anime the games doesn’t tell you that Kazuki is the director until he reveals it himself or until you recognise his voice in another route lol, it’s sad that they revealed it so fast in the anime since its just a big secret in the game.

Iwai Takuto

Iwai’s route had the most induvial plot of the game. The route starts with Keita seeing him burn his painting after meeting Iwai at the artist club. And the next day he walks in on Iwai trying to kill himself by cutting his wrist (like wtf). Luckily the cut is small and no danger to his life. Shinomiya who is friends with Iwai takes care of him while he heals (Keita is also there to help) and there we find out from Shinomiya that this wasn’t the first time Iwai did this (jesus) and then he starts to victim blame Iwai (I will come back to this bitch Shinomiya later). So, Keita being the good boy he is decided to help Iwai and find out why he is so depressed (enough to try to kill himself several times??). Well, turns out it has to do with Iwai’s family, who is just garbage. Iwai’s mother is the mistress of some famous artist who taught Iwai how to paint, but Iwai got really good at oil painting, so his trash father just took credit for Iwai paintings himself and got a bunch of praise and prices for it. But not only that it gets worse, his mother is a total hoe who forces Iwai to make more paintings because if not Iwai’s father will leave her and go back to his other family. This whole situation really sits on Iwai because he doesn’t want to create more oil painting for his shitty father, but he genuinely loves to paint. He was even once rejected from a competition for “copying” the art of his garbage dad. Also, the reason he burned the paintings in the beginning was because his mother was visiting him, and he didn’t want to hand her anymore of his. Keita as a character shines the strongest in the route because he isn’t having any of this shit and tries his best for Iwai to confront his family, even if Iwai is always trying to give up. Luckily an art gallery guy noticed that Iwai’s father paintings are actually Iwai’s and ask him for cooperation to reveal the whole thing to the public, Iwai first rejects it but with Keita’s positive influence he finally accepts it. The development of their relationship was also good, though it mostly consisted of Keita (friendly) kicking Iwai’s ass to stop being a puppet for his shitty family (we love that). Also, Iwai made a painting of Keita, which he later used as the main theme for his exhibition, after the whole situation was revealed and he finally got the praise he deserved.

He also confessed first to Keita by kissing him, but good thing is that the gay in Keita has already started to bloom, so he doesn’t think much about the fact that they are both men and happily gets laid. Generally speaking, Iwai had the best route story-wise, and Keita showed the strongest part of his characters here, despites that I can say Iwai is just not my type, I can appreciate the route by I don’t really have any interest in Iwai or the pairing.

Shinomiya Kouji

Shinomiya’s route was the second one we played, and after no homo Naruse’s air it felt like a breath of fresh air. Because this time Keita is the one who is falling first for the LI. His route is a bit different from others in that way that he agrees to be Keita’s MVP battle partner only for to fulfil his own dream. Which is to save his little brother, who has heart problems and can’t get a heart transplant immediately because in Japan you need to be older to get one. And since Suzubishi also has a medical research department he knows they can help him. Keita agrees to help him even if it means that he won’t be able to stay at the school. Along the way Keita falls for Shinomiya and can’t hide his feeling anymore, so he confesses to Shinomiya and Shinomiya is like “souka” (“I see”) like bitch what kind of answer is that???? The scene just ends without him actually saying anything back lmaooo. Later Keita confesses again and to get his feelings across he kisses Shinomiya (hell yeah Keita lets go full gay, Naruse probably crying in the background, wishing he had gotten this treatment.) and Shinomiya kisses him back, so they are happy clappy gay together now. Which also starts a long back and forth between “I want you to stay at the school so we can be together” and “I want to save your little brother” but at some point, they agree that saving Shinomiya’s brother is more important than dick battles. So after Keita wins the MVP battle they go to the director office, where they of course don’t meet the director because Kazuki is hiding but they can talk to him through speakers (I seriously want to know how Keita doesn’t recognize Kazuki’s voice) but they tell him that their wish is for Shinomiya’s brother to get the medical treatment he needs and director Kazuki tells them that he will make their wish come true, but also because Kazuki’s gay ass he let Keita stay in school. So, they get both the things they wanted, happy end~ And now let’s get to the part where I drag Shinomiya through dirt because he is a victim shaming asshole. I have to say he is already flat, but the fact that he wants to be a doctor is even funnier because I hate the doctor characters who have like no other personality than being a doctor (I talked about this in another review before) Anyway the part where he shames Iwai for trying to commit fucking suicide made me really dislike him. If there is one thing that gets my blood really boiling, its people who blame victims for their situation instead of helping them doesn’t that remind you of another doctor character who victim blamed the MC for his situation? Yeah, congrats Shinomiya now get your ugly ass out of my face.

Gakuen Heaven Review Part 2

Cut due to length

Taki Shunsuke

Shunsuke is the character who speaks in Kansai dialect, which means I’m already biased for him since the beginning. He is very chill and doesn’t want people to use keigo when talking to him, so he is one of the only characters who Keita talks causally with even though he is 1 year above (yes this is a big deal in Japan). His route starts with him questioning Keita, how he got into the school. Since Keita doesn’t really know it himself, he just tells him that, but Shunsuke doesn’t seems convinced. Then he just runs away with Keita following him (I think he dropped something? I’m not sure anymore) Keita follows him to the administration building where we learn that Shunsuke is actually working as a spy for the vice director, who apart from being an asshole, just hates Keita’s guts. Of course, Shunsuke is not doing that because he wants to but because the vice director is blackmailing him into it. Shusuke tell him all the information he has on Keita, but the asshole vice director is not happy with that and abuses him (and not only that he actually rapes him in the PC version) and since Keita followed him, he actually sees that. Keita of course tries to help Shunsuke to free himself from the director, but Shusuke just rejects him. Also, since the topic of rape is pretty heavy in this route a lot was changed in the PSP version, so much that the walkthrough was even completely different, so I’m not sure myself how they even handled this topic and I feel like we didn’t get the full story in the PSP version, which is a shame. After trying to get Shunsuke away from the vice director several times, Keita finally gets Shunsuke to confess what the asshole vice director is blackmailing him with. As far as I remember Shunsuke’s father left the family and his new nicer dad is working for the vice director, so that asshole choose to use Shunsuke as his personal spy, and told Shunsuke if he doesn’t do as told he will make his father work hell. In addition, Shusuke, who works delivering mail around the school ground for cafeteria tickets, once read a letter of a classmate, that he was supposed to deliver, who dated the math teacher and then told the information to the vice director, which ended with the student quitting school. Of course, Shunsuke feels terrible about this and doesn’t want the anyone in the school to know it was his fault, because the student was really popular, which would lead to the whole school hating him. The vice director also uses this information to blackmail him, so basically Shunsuke is stuck and has no way out. Despite the vice director telling Shunsuke to try get Keita to lose the MVP battle Shunsuke is a good boy and still leads them to victory. In the end Keita and Shunsuke end up telling the director aka Kazuki about the asshole of a vice director, and he gets his ass fired (nice one Kazuki). Shunsuke also wishes to get the information of the student who left school because of him, since he wants to apologise. Which he does and later tell Keita that the student wasn’t actually mad and that he got an opportunity to go aboard with the teacher he was in love with, so happy end for everyone. Then Shunsuke confesses that he likes Keita or rather takes a long while to confess and Keita returns his feeling which makes him super happy and them being the stupid couple, they are they kiss right on the school yard… at broad daylight… with everyone seeing it lmao. Keita then thinks that his school life will be interesting from now on and the route ends. You also need to know that Keita tops in this relationship, but I didn’t see the H-scenes so no idea how it actually goes, but these two sure are the definition of an idiot couple. They also end up screaming about their love for each other to the whole school in the fandisk, which is hilarious. I like them a lot they are cute. 

Shichijou Omi

Omi is my least favourite character, not only because he is generally just too polite but also because he is just creepy. He is the hackerman of the game and the queen’s childhood friend. Most of his route consist of Keita hanging out with him and Omi taking him to places to explore Omi’s hobby with is occult stuff. For some reason he is really into it. Kaoru also tells Keita the story how they became friends in this route. Omi grew up in the US and when he came to Japan, he did not understand Japanese, so everyone thought he was strange and could not understand him, but Kaoru was smart and could speak English already in elementary school, so they became friends. Later when they were about to start high school, Kaoru got an acceptance letter for BL school, but Omi didn’t, so Kaoru made Omi hack his name into the list of students, to be together with him. But unlucky for them the director noticed it and paid a visit to them. First, they didn’t want to admit it and Kaoru tried to take the blame himself but lucky them, the director aka Kazuki was so impressed with Omi’s skills that he invited him to join the school in exchange for taking over the security over the school. And that’s the reason why Kaoru and Omi know of Kazuki’s identity as the director. Anyway, back to the not so interesting plot of the route. Apart from the background story nothing interesting happens in the route, they do the MVP battle win and later Omi confesses to Keita on the roof of the school by lighting the windows of the school in letters to form the words “I love Ito Keita”. Keita is shocked about this and is not sure if he feels the same way, so Omi suggest for them to try out dating and kisses Keita. Now for my personal problems with this pairing. Omi is creepy and the way he basically forced Keita to date him was just red flag. Normally Keita starts to have gay thoughts about the LI at this point, but here he didn’t and even after confessing he wasn’t sure. Worst part is that the sex scenes is supposed to take place right on the roof after the confession, so Omi basically forces Keita to have sex with him which is just a big no no. Even worse is that the end scene shows them cuddling (or more like Omi hugging Keita) and Omi helping Keita with his English. The whole scene gives of “psycho love interest locking up the MC” energy and it creeped me the hell out, so yeah Omi was just a no for me.

Niwa Tetsuya

The president of the student council, which is why he is also called King. He is a kind and a gentle man, who is excellent in every subject, thus is why the club of the school have to beat him first to get financial support. Niwa is very helpful but loves to slack of and run away from his responsibilities, which is why his wife Nakajima has a “Niwa is not doing his work” detector and therefore able to find him anywhere on the school ground. King’s routes consist mostly of him and Keita bonding over fishing and not doing their work (he is a bad influence lol) with Nakajima running after them. For Keita to partner up with King for the MVP battle  he has to stand in line because King is so popular that everyone in school wanted to be partners with him. When Keita finally got to ask him, King asked him in reverse why Keita wants to be partners with him to which Keita replied that he wants to stay in the school because he likes it here and wants to find out what kind of special talent he has (spoiler: none lol, if you don’t count his luck). The answer is enough for king to pair up with him because he just wanted to see how serious Keita is about the whole thing. The MVP battle is a bit different in this route, because Keita gets kidnapped by vice-directors’ underlings, who try to stop Keita from winning. But King shows up and saves Keita, getting hurt in the progress but beating these dudes up to pulp. During the battle they grow even closer together, and Keita hugs him before he does the final battle alone. After they win, Keita tries to find King only to be told by Nakajima that King is not in his right mind and it trying to pick fights with everyone. Looking for King, Keita finds him at the beach, where we find out that king is going mad because he has a deep crush on Keita and is now trying to sort out his feelings. He confesses to Keita, knowing he can’t hide his feelings anyway and thinks Keita will reject him, because he is a man and all, but to his surprise Keita actually ends up kissing him (damn Keita) and says that their feelings are mutual. Then they have sexy times on the beach. The routes with them once again running from Nakajima and King carrying Keita princess style. I loved Kings route a lot, their relationship development felt natural, I loved how confident Keita was with King and how soft and loving King is with Keita. Also Keita kept calling him “cute” in the route which was just precious. I also have to talk about Kings relationship with the queen, who doesn’t seem to like him much. But King sure does likes him and always calls him “Kaoru-chan” and you can tell me what you want but King has a crush on the queen. He even said he would date him if Kaoru was a woman, but honestly, he doesn’t need to become a woman for you to date him Niwa, you know? Haha (even if Kaoru would be so happy with it probably lol). The game had good LI x LI potential as well as threesome, sadly we didn’t get it, but I would love to see King x Queen or King x Queen x Keita as well as Keita x Nakajima x Queen (those three also had a very questionable scene together). So many characters so many possibilities….

Saionji Kaoru

Apart from the King, the Queen is the other best route of the game. First thing you need to know about Kaoru is that this man is so beautiful it’s criminal when Omi is standing next to him. Not only that but Keita also has to suffer because of his beauty lol. Secondly you need to know that he can be either top or bottom, but I’ll get to that later. So, Kaoru, who Keita always calls “Saionji”, but I can’t remember his family name, so I just go with his first name, is probably the smartest person in the school. He already got all credits to graduate so he is just chilling now and swallowing every book he gets his hands on. According to Omi he gets angry because he knows he can’t inquire all the knowledge of this world lol. He works as the head of the school accounting department, because he has some beef with the school president and doesn’t want to work together with him (though I personally think he is just tsun about it.) Their quarrel started when Kaoru joined the school and King started flirting with him because he thought Kaoru is a girl (honestly can’t blame him) and touched his hair (the audacity), which is where he got the nickname “queen” from, though he doesn’t like the nickname himself (but I personally think it fits him very well, because he sometimes acts like a queen). His route doesn’t really have strong plot, it mostly consists of Keita hanging out with him, but I don’t mind because that way I can simp more for Kaoru. We also find out that Kaoru not only dresses like a grandpa, but he also has grandpa hobbies, like going to classical music concerts (no offence for classic music lovers here, I enjoy it myself) and dragging Keita with him. The romance in this game hits when Keita stumbles upon a sleeping Kaoru, who looks like the beautiful princess he is, and the first thing going to Keita’s totally straight mind is to kiss Kaoru, then he has an internal conflict about wanting to kiss Kaoru despite him being a man but decided fuck it he’s going to do it. S,o he does and of course Kaoru wakes up (but honestly no surprise Keita had his lips glued to him for like a minute straight), then he asks Keita if Keita likes him and goes even further by asking him if he likes men. Keita of course goes “Keita.exe stopped working” and this is where you decided who you want to see get laid. If Keita confessed and says he likes him, Kaoru will just question him further, which will later lead to Keita having a panic monologe with himself, if he is actually gay (it’s hilarious), but after that he will decide “fuck it it’s worth to be gay for the queen” he will go and confess only for Kaoru to act all queen on him, having Keita to swear to be with him forever and actually threating him with death if he cheats lol. The best part though is when they go to the director office to make their wish. After Keita asks the director to stay at the school, Kaoru, who knows Kazuki is the director and interested in Keita, tell him that he will be taking Keita in exchange, hinting that they are dating, and Kazuki replies with “how could you do this to me” AHAHAHAHAHAHA comedy gold. Then Kaoru invites Keita to his room, Keita thinks he will get to top, but wrong Kaoru tops the fuck out of him and the routes ends with him resting on Kaoru’s knees the next day because his butt hurts lmao. But if you choose to let Keita think about it again, Keita won’t have the gay breakdown in his brain, instead he will confess seriously and with full confidence to Kaoru the next day and kiss Kaoru right on spot (damn Keita). When it comes to the sexy times Kaoru actually allows Keita to top so Keita doesn’t waste a second thought and goes straight to sucking his dick, accepting his new gay persona immediately lmaoo. After that he goes full top and has Kaoru ride him (nice). You see, Keita as a top is just… too powerful. . It’s almost scary, he only is allowed to top 3 of the 10 characters but when he does, he goes crazy, maybe that’s why they didn’t allow him to top more hahaha.

And if you want to know why I know how the sex scene went, it’s because I had to see Kaoru bottom, so we played the PC version for this. And normally I don’t talk about sex scenes in my reviews but it sure was a good scene ahaha. It was longer than the other h-scenes and seeing Kaoru ride Keita was the best because it’s my favourite sex position in bl games. Also, bottom Kaoru is superior because man is always very serious and doesn’t show many emotions on him face apart from being mad at the King once in a while but having him actually get embarrassed and shy was just the best and he only does it when he is bottom. Their route ends with them lying in bed together, still naked with a pink background and Keita teasingly asking for more while (probably) touching Kaoru inappropriately and Kaoru just getting super embarrassed. They relationship development doesn’t feel rushed at all, since Kaoru admit to liking Keita (platonic or not) even way before the whole kiss drama happens. Also I would like to start a petition for more hime-character in bl games, I just need more of them, so writer please take notes.

Itou Keita

Keita is a complex character because he acts a bit different in every route. In one he can be annoying because of his homophobia in other he can be strong and confident, but I feel like all the different part we see of him through the game are parts of his being and which side we see of him, depend on his partner alone. Keita is a very generic MC, which doesn’t make him boring at all, rather him being the way he is, is distancing him from other main characters (if that even makes sense?). Since all his routes show a different side of him, it’s always fun to explore a new side of him. His behaviour can really surprise but also disappoint you. All in all, I think he is a very good and entertaining main character. If you only know him from the anime, I really recommend the game because in the anime he felt rather empty compared to the game.

Art

Chinssss…In old fashion style, the chins in this game are as impressive as always. Joke beside, the game has a very 90s anime-core style of art (makes sense it came out in 2002), back then they just had a bad case of yaoi chins, but if you don’t mind the old art style you will enjoy it. Since I’m already old and grew up with that art style, I don’t really mind it, rather I find it really nostalgic. The game doesn’t have that many Cgs, but the one it has are really good. There was a kiss Cgs (the most important one) for every couple. However, the important part is not the Cgs in the game but rather all the extra art the company released for this game because hot damn, they released a lot and a lot of really sexy pictures of the characters, sometimes even LI x LI pictures. If you’re interested, I recommend taking a look at the gorgeous art of the game.

Voice acting

Normally I don’t really mention the VA since Japanese games always have good acting so it’s not worth it, but this time I make an exception since only the PSP version is voiced, which is such a shame because the VA do so much to bring the character to life. You can’t play this game without having heard the way Naruse calls Keita “honey”, or how deep Kaoru sounds despite looking like a princess. Not only that but all the characters are voiced by pretty know voice actors such as Miki Shinichirou (already mentioned) Kamiya Hiroshi, Narita Ken, Konishi Katsuyuki, Morikawa Toshiyuki and so on. That’s why I really recommend playing the PSP version (with emulator) instead of the PC version because the H-scenes aren’t really worth erasing the voices for.

Conclusion

The game is great, the fandsik is great, I had a fantastic time playing this with my friends and I will really miss the amazing characters in this game (We still talk about them). And despite my complains (which is normal since this is a review after all) I had a ton of fun with this game and can only recommend it as an old time classic, but only the voiced version, or else you will be missing out a lot. The anime is also not bad if you just want to watch some slice of life school romance BL, there are also manga that follow some of the routes, such as Kazuki’s and King’s. And if you decided to play it, don’t forget the fandisk also exists.

Laughter Land Review

Long time no see, dear readers.

I feel quite ashamed for sharing this so late, but I was sick and then busy with real life and couldn’t finish this review. (I even had to replay some parts to write this) But I still hope you enjoy reading my review of Laughter Land. This game was recommended by my friend, and first, I didn’t want to play it because, let’s say I don’t like shota much, but she promised me its good and that it doesn’t have much sexual content. She was right with both, so here we are.

Description:

Dick is a young boy living in a village who is bored with schoolwork and his everyday life. One day, he attends the village fair and meets a mysterious boy dressed like a court jester called Guillered who offers to bring him to a world called Laughter Land where one’s every wish is granted and there is no work, only play and no one ever grows up. Dick agrees and is brought to Laughter Land.

Story:

For a game that came out in 2006 I was honestly impressed how good the game was, not to say older games always have to be bad, but they usually not as well developed and lack in pacing and writing, so it’s hard to compare them with newer games, but this one stands the test of time quite well. I finished it in one week and the game is not near as short as one might think. The story kept me glued to the screen because once you finished a route you would unlock new parts that continued the story. I really liked the pacing in the game, it didn’t feel rushed at all, and everything felt well developed. Despite most of the characters being very young, it didn’t feel like you were playing a game aimed at children, it still had a good share of mature and serious content. The game felt like a modern Peter Pan story and revolves around the topic of growing up, which is why in that context it makes sense for the characters to be as young as they are. As for the routes, the game has normal routes (which continue the story) and character routes (where the romance parts take place). You need to finish the normal routes to unlock new routes. Once you finish the first normal route you start the game at a different place. There is a also true route in the game. The quality of the routes depends on the one you play, some are really good some are not so good. The normal routes are better in comparison to the character routes but this is to be expected.

Characters

Dick

We have the main character “Dick” (yes that’s his name) who is taken to Laughter Land (by force btw, Guillered didn’t bother asking much). Dick is funny, cheeky and despite his young age rather mature. He has his childish moments but is quite smart and I had a good time with him. Oh, and he tops 90% of the times.

Roddy

The free spirit boy, who lives in the forest in Laughter Land. He loves to go on adventure, is very kind and a good boy and he loves to fly. He was the first route I played and the one I liked the most.

Ioan

He is the apprentice of the greatest wizard of Laughter land, Mater Northbrook. Ioan is very childish, very clumsy, and way too criminal looking for my taste. I didn’t like neither his route nor his character (he sounds kind of annoying, too).

Sergi

He lives in the Forbidden Zone, a place where children who lose their permission to stay in Laughter Land have to live, which is basically just a slum. He is looking for his family that is still in Laughter Land. Sergi is rather calm but can have his sassy moments and he’s slightly tsundere. His route is connected to the plot of the game and therefore was interesting to play.

Cornel

He and his older brother are living together in a mansion in Laughter Land and hunt the “blue” people (the one who lost their permission to stay in Laughter Land, like Sergi), and bring them to the Forbidden Zone. His route was something…. Truly something… not bad just something.

Greg

Greg also lives in the Forbidden Zone and is friends with Sergi, he is the “womanizer” in the game and his other hobby is to pick up poor children off the street and animals (He had a crocodile names “Stephanie” living in his bathroom. Despite his womanizer ways, I actually really like Greg a lot. He is very motherly and very funny.

Dag

The criminal ossan of the game. His route was terrible and honestly, I didn’t expect anything to be worse than Ioan and no I’m not saying that only because of the FBI worth calling- age gap. Despite that I thought his personality was actually quite nice. He works as an inventor and Dicks works for him in every route where he lives in the Forbidden Zone. He also likes alcohol, a LOT, so Dick has to go full mother mode on him sometimes.

Guillered

The “mastermind” behind Laughter Land, he brings all the children to laughter land. To be honest, this shota needs 3000h of therapy before he is ready to be released at humanity again. Although he has his reason to be the way he is, I just thought that he was absolutely bonkers. And he is also one of the more criminal looking characters.

Music &Art

The art is really cute and has this soft childlike feature (which makes sense in the setting of course) and no yaoi face syndrome because you know shotas and all. Music was also really good, I really loved the ending song.

Conclusion

My personal order from best to worst was Roddy/Greg/Sergi/Cornel/Guillered/Ioan/Dag. I didn’t want to go far into spoiler here because I want to engage people to play it because this game is too good to not to play so I fully recommend it, please try even if you aren’t into Shota.

Now let’s talk about the spoilery part about the game. Like said the game is a Modern peter Pan story. Laughter Land is completely controlled by children. And for it to stay that way the characters have to remain a child inside their mind (well and outside too because they don’t age), meaning any mature behaviour can lead to you being kicked out and put into the Forbidden Zone, where you have to live in poverty (and grow old) Children sent to the forbidden Zone can grow up to adults because the rules in Laughter Land don’t apply there, but how do they know that a character is too mature and needs to be send to the forbidden Zone, well when children are taken to Laughter Land, they all get a red gems implanted inside their bodies by Guillered, this gem can grand any wish. If they characters begin to make mature choices, their gem slowly begins to turn purple until it’s blue, once its blue it’s impossible to turn it back to red (apparently). That’s why the people from the forbidden Zone are often called “the blue”. Blue crystal can’t grant wishes anymore and are practically useless. And that’s how the choice system in this game works, you basically make childish/mature choices, which lead to Dick either staying in Laughter Land and ending up with one of its residence or him being put in the Forbidden Zone where he ends up with one of its characters. Since growing up is a part of live, it’s only to be expected that the Forbidden Zone is full of people.

And now let’s go through the different route.

Normal Route

The first route I played was the normal route, which has no romantic partner for Dick but needs to be played to unlock more routes and is important for the plot. It begin with Dick going to the village fair where he meets Guillered who brings him to Laughter Lan. There he gets his gem an meets Roddy and Ioan (and Ioan fucking Onee-san broom who can speak and makes really weird sexual comments, A FUCKING BROOM jesus I’m not over that broom…. Oh and also a speaking plush toy dog who also can speak. Both of these are made for Ioan by his Master Northbrook). Ioan agrees to let Dick stay with him until he builds his own house. So, the next few days/weeks (idk how long it took) are spent with Dick building his home and meeting people in Laughter Land. Once he finishes his house, he meets Cornel and his big bro who are looking for “the blue” with an army of iron soldiers, who are made specifically to hunt for “blue”. Following an adventure with Roddy in the forest at night, Dick actually gets to meet one of the “blues”, Sergi. This encounter leads him to wonder why blues are even being hunted, despite them being the same as the people from Laugher Land. But sadly, Dick doesn’t have much time to think about it, because his own gem has turned blue after making too many mature choices. This is soon discovered by Ioan and Dick is brought to the Forbidden Zone. (Boys barely had time to life in the house he spent weeks on building)

There he gets immediately robbed by a young boy named Aby, and is picked up by (Mother) Greg, he also gets to meet with Sergi again and gets to know Dag. Greg also picks up Aby up after the poor boy’s brother is killed and he is sold into prostitution by a fucking asshole name Zachariah who also drugs him (god I want to stab this man so bad). Dick later gets a job at Dag who helps him with his inventor job and plays the mother role because Dag is a mess. One day Dag asks him if he want to return home and Dick says he does, so Dag gets the crazy idea to build a machine to bring him back to the real world. This plan has to stay secret because if the organization name Serpent, who basically controls the area finds out about it they will be in big trouble. Like you expect they do find out because a girl name Leesha, tricks Aby into telling her about his plan, by promising him to let him take revenge for his brother’s death, which only leads to Aby dying by fucking Zachariah (who killed his brother btw). While Aby is having a not great time, Dick is put in the machine and before they can use the magic of their gems (yes, I know in normal case it shouldn’t work but Dag promised it will work) they are killed by fucking Zachariah soldier army. With Dick still stuck in the machine, he can only hear how his friends get murdered, but for some reason their gems actually manage to work, and Dick is brought back to the real world again. His first goal back at home, is to give the letter, to the person Dag asked him to deliver it. And here is where the first part of the story ends.

Important to note is also that when you get your gem in the beginning you also get a list with people’s name on it. These names get crossed out with every wish you make because they represent people in the real world, who forgot about you. Oh, and Dag also mentions that Laughter Land is actually call “Slaughter Land” (yeah fun times)

Being the first route, I played, I was really glued to my scream especially when a “to be continued” appeared on the screen after the route ended.

Roddy

Now let’s talk about the character’s routes. Roddy’s route hurt me on a physical and emotional level. Like I mentioned Roddy is a good boy who lives in the forest and loves to go on adventure where he takes his friends with. He also loves to fly (which he can do because of his gem and all) and take Dick (by force) with him on his flying adventure. If Dick stays a good (childish) boy he can continue living in his house in Laughter Land and becomes friends with Roddy and together they go on adventure like in the forest, where time stands still. There they find a random machine and are curious what it’s for, but can’t figure it out, so they decide to ask around. They look in the library at Ioans place and ask people, but just can’t to find the answer, so they come up with the idea for Ioan to ask his Master to make the machine talk by itself.

While this is all happening it also becomes really clear that Dick and Roddy both developing romantic feeling for each other, but Roddy is very pure so he doesn’t understand his feelings. At some point he also tells Dick that he likes him, with Dick questioning what kind of “like” his like is and tells Roddy to figure it out.

Meanwhile Ioan calls Dick to have a private conversation with him over this machine. Ioan then tells him that he should not tell Roddy about it because the machine is actually something from the real world and was inside Roddy to help keep his heart beating.

So, while all of this is happening Roddy begins to have weird dream in which he sees a boy in a hospital. Well as you can guess, Roddy was actually heart sick in the real world and the machine was there to keep him alive, but it turns out that he was supposed to die, which is why he was brought to Laughter Land, where he could finally fulfil his dream of living a normal life and flying in the sky. But Roddy doesn’t remember his life at this point yet.

At some point he urges Dick to continue searching for answers about the machine, but Dick tell him he wants him to stop. After some arguing, Roddy then promised him not to look for it anymore. Then they have the whole conversation about liking each other with Dick showing him what kind of like he has for Roddy (yes, I mean they have sex).

To be honest I was a little scared of the H-scene in this game and wanted to skip them in the beginning, but it wasn’t too bad actually and more bearable because they are around the same age. Generally, the H-scene in this game fall into 3 categories: Criminal underage, young but bearable and criminal age gap (aka Dag).

The next day, after their love play Roddy falls asleep and doesn’t wake up anymore, so Dick calls Guillered, seeking for help. Guillered tells him that normally children don’t dream in Laughter Land and that Roddy does because of Dick’s special power he has in his hand that makes people remember their forgotten memories, which is currently happening to Roddy. The only way to save him is either to delete all memory of Dick and for Dick not get close to Roddy anymore or to let Roddy die, because as it turns out Roddy is already supposed to be dead, the only reason he is alive in Laughter Land is because his special power. With his power he can stop time, like in the forest he lives in and in himself.

Dick has a hard time deciding and ask for more time, which he does but after a few days it’s already too late and Roddy wakes up with all his memories restored. He thanks Dick for all the time they spent together AND FUCKING DIES *credit role*…… I was sobbing in my pillow at this point wtf this is so sad TT_TT

But luckily, we get an after-credit scene and as it turns out Dick actually erased all his memories, so Roddy is alive and doing well but Dick can’t be with him anymore, and yet Roddy wants to get to know him and take him on adventure (more crying into my pillow)

The route was so good but so terrible sad TT_TT and the worst part is that it’s the only pairing in the game, that has no happy end like WHY. My friend also told me there is a drama CD and apparently, they keep falling in love, with Roddy having his memories erased every time…. My heart is hurting. 10/10 tears for that route.

Ioan

So if you get to know not very legal Ioan you learn that he’s struggling with something. And that something is trauma of killing a child (like wtf?). Apparently like 20 years ago (how old are these shota again?) Laughter Land fell in disaster with monster like things attacking the residence and the only way to stop it was to kill a child, which Ioan dropped from a building or something. And that must have been very disturbing for him because he now takes fucking drugs to deal with his trauma and he is pretty addicted to it (ah yes, the classic drug bl plot that I so much can’t stand. At least it’s with a character I dislike)

At this point, I don’t even remember how the route played out, that’s how uninteresting it was. But yeah, Dick wants of course to help Ioan but Guillered asks him if he is ready to accept the truth Ioan is hiding, which Dick says he does. The truth is that his Master Northbrook is actually he himself (I don’t know why it’s even such a big deal? Probably the lying part but still) so yeah Northbrook, who is said to be the only adult in Laughter Land isn’t actually an adult, but adults don’t actually exist in Laughter Land, and that’s how Dick found out that something was must be wrong.

So Dick accepts Ioan and Ioan is like yay let’s get close which Dicks, for some reason sees as an invitation for sex (yeah I don’t know either) so they do it, which probably has to be the most illegal and uncomfortable H-scene I have ever seen and I ended up skipping most of it *shudders*. And they live happy ever after. Coming fresh from Roddy’s route I was pissed why this shitty shota gets a happy end and Roddy not????? Fuck him.

Also, I need to talk about Ioan’s fucking broom, so like mentioned his Master aka he himself made him some friends by giving life to a fucking broom and a dog stuff animal but this beside. The fucking broom is not only an onee san (aka a feminine gay man) but also in love with basically every boy who gives him attention, with his favourite being Ioan of course…I just couldn’t deal with this broom.

Sergi

For Sergi you have to finish the normal end because this route starts in the Forbidden Zone, which is interesting because according to the others Dick came to the forbidden Zone 10 years ago, so when he was a small child, but Dick remembers all what happened in the route before (the normal one when everyone died, and he returned to the real world).

Like before Dick is living with Greg and Aby and working for Dag. So, one time they decide to visit the casino because Greg wants to spend (Dick’s) money (lmao) which they end up doing, they also take Sergi and Aby with them. Dick tried poker for the first time while Greg cheats on some games, with Aby getting some drinks for him. At the end of the day, they can’t find Aby anymore and decide to return home. Few days later Aby is still missing because as it turns out fucking Zachariah took him (again) and his bitch of a helper (the only girl you ever see in the game) and made him their play toy to sell to customers (and I warn here if you don’t want to see 5-7 year old be raped on screen better not play this, even I had to skip it)

After few weeks they throw Aby out on the street like trash after he got addicted to drugs (AGAIN, oh yeah this is the same drug Ioan is taking, which is apparently popular). The others luckily find Aby and take him home. Greg the good mother he is angry and wants to take revenge. Sergi say he is crazy, and they have a small fight with Greg running out of the house. Sergi tells Dick that he will probably leave the city to go over to Laughter Land to find the family he has been looking for, which is still living there, or so he has heard and if Dick wants, he can come with him.

This is where the routes start to separate. If you decided to go with Sergi you can play either his or Cornel’s route, if you stay, you’ll be playing Greg or Dag. But since this is about Sergi we’re going with him.

Dick meets with Sergi at night where the latter had gotten them a carriage to pass the border. After being chased by enemies and some shooting, they reach it, but unfortunate for them as they’re about to pass the bother they met Cornel and his big bro. Cornel says he wants to see if their gems are red, which of course they aren’t but at he is about to check, their gems suddenly shine in red so they are allowed to pass. Dick’s gem turned red again and we learn later that Sergi can actually change the colour of his gem himself.

The first day they just wander around Laughter Land trying to find some clues. They go meet Ioan, where Sergi gets sexually harassed by the gaze of the onee san broom, but they don’t find anything. Later they meet Cornel (and his bro) again, who lets them stay at his super fancy mansion.  Cornel says they can stay there while looking for Sergi’s mother (is who Sergi is actually looking for). Dick asks Guillered for help, who tells him that Laughter Land doesn’t have many girls so it should be easy to find her. They manage to steal a book from Ioan with the help of their gem, that has notes about a girl and take turns reading it over the following days. In short, the notebook is about a girl and her friend who live in laughter land and are told by Guillered to get along with a newbie named Zach. The girl starts taking an interest in the new guy, who seems to be a little weird and apparently it leads to a romantic relationship because she later gets pregnant from him and gives birth a child which throws the world into a chaos. The Zach guy gets than banned to the Forbidden Zone as well as the friend who also like the girl. But since they took the baby away from the girl, she gets depressed and tries to commit suicide, so Guillered erases her memory and put her into a room, that she can’t leave. And that girl is name Leesha, who was actually shown before in the route because Dick visited her before with Roddy. And the child is actually Sergi himself but not only that, it’s also the child Ioan supposedly killed. The friend is Greg and Zach is the fucking Zachariah (but this part is never really explained because he is such a douche suddenly?) So, after they find out who Segi’s mother is they visit her and spent some time with her (of couse she doesn’t recognise Sergi) before Sergi decided to go back to the Forbidden Zone where he lived all his life. Dick goes with him. After return they start dating basically and also Sergi is the bottom (nice). They also learn that Greg, Dag and Aby are missing but in the very end its hinted on that they are still alive. The lore reveal was really good here and how it connected to the previous routes. You can tell the writer put a lot of thoughts in this.

Cornel

Cornel’s route basically starts the same as Sergi’s and separates after Sergi and Dick start chilling at his mansion. One night at the mansion Dick hears some weird sounds and it turns out its coming from Cornel because HE IS FUCKING HIS OWN BROTHER WHAT. So, brother-fucker Cornel has some kind of onii-san kink (should have seen this coming) and it all goes back to his life in the real world where he apparently really loved his brother and always wanted to spend time with him. But with Dicks magic hand (why does that sounds so weird?) abilities Cornel remembers at some point that his real brother was actual an asshole who abused him and the “perfect” brother of his was only living in his fantasies. (forget daddy issues, here we have onii-san issues) and his brother in laughter land is basically a personification of that fantasy, also the brother is actually one of the iron soldiers. The route ends with the brother gets destroyed in the end and cornel can live happy together with Dick after they start their relationship and Sergi returns back home. Yeah…. The brother thing was weird.

Normal route 2.0

Same as with Cornel and Sergi it follows the same start and basically almost goes up to the end of Cornels route, only difference is that Guillered shows up and STABS dick before Dick can help Cornel, saying that he fucked up, so yeah Guillered is responsible for these time travel things. Honestly, I recommend playing Cornel first before doing this route because it basically almost spoils everything of his route and I was just skipping most of it when I finally reached it.

Greg

Gregs route has the same start as Sergi’s, so everything with the Casino and the abuse of Aby happens and it goes until the part Greg wants to take revenge and runs away, with Dick following and talking to him, this time. Dick also talks with Dag who gives him a special weapon to kill the iron soldiers. Before Dick and Greg set their plan into action they have a last talk, which end up with Greg almost sneaking out at night and Dick is (of course) not happy with that, so Dick gets Greg to  take him with him, but before they leave Greg kisses him as vow of this promise (he also says that this kind of kiss you can only give a true man xD). They sneak into the organisation, take out a bunch of enemies and reach the room where fucking Zachariah is. Once they enter it and Greg confronts him, his bitch of a helper girl (who btw is Leesha or should I rather say looks like her) is all like “wah don’t kill him” but of course it’s only to trick Greg, which she manages, steals the gun from him and uses against him. Greg is confused why she would do that because, as said before, they were friends once. Then Dick goes all hero mode on him and first shoots the girl who turns out to be an iron soldier and then fucking Zachariah. Oh yeah Greg also gets shot and then died dramatically on the floor- as if lol he is just a drama queen, he survives of course. A while later when we actually get confirmed that Greg is really just dramatic and still alive, Dick asks him why he is not playing around with woman anymore and Greg says that he has someone he like and lets Dick guess. Dick then asks him if he likes him which Greg confirms. Then he says that he fell in love with Dick because Dick had been so cool during their attack on fucking Zachariah that he couldn’t help himself not to fall in love (awww that’s so sweets), then he asks if Dicks feels the same and Dick says he doesn’t mind, which Gregs basically takes as mutual feeling and happily screams how Dick likes him too, after he kisses Dick and they have happy sexy times (with Dick being bottom for the first time, how exiting). But that’s not all, once they start dating the apparently fuck every night and Dick is sick of it and decides to take revenge while Greg is asleep and gives him a blowjob first and then decides he is daddy now and goes top mode on him AHAHAHAHAHA. The CGs looks so stupid, because despite Greg’s face looking young, his body is clearly one of an adult, while Dick is still baby, and it just looks ridiculous. I had some serious fangirl moments in this route, Greg is such a good boy and a very caring mother, him falling for Dick because of how cool he was, is so funny but also so cute. I really enjoyed this route.

Laughter Land Review Part 2

I wrote too much had to cut in two parts

Dag

Dag’s route pretty much goes exactly like Gregs until the moment when they confront the stupid bitch and fucking Zachariah, only this time Greg really dies (Noooooooooo) and Dick is capture and sold as a prostitutes for perverted men (They show the abuse on screen for way too long). At some point the constant rape breaks Dick and he turns basically into a puppet. Meanwhile Dag is worried what happened to these two and by chance learns about Dick being sold as a prostitute and basically manages to buy Dick with the help of a shop manager. Dick is still broken inside, so Dag takes care of him, like they did with Aby. At some point Dick heals and for some reason starts liking Dag, after Dag takes him to see the sunrise or something. In the final choice you can either confess or not if you do, they will have very illegal sex (which is honestly a crime to look at, I’m not a pedo, thank you) or just stay friends (a way better end than the random confession out of nowhere). It felt more like Dick was attracted to Dag and not really in love with him, because of Dag freed him from his nightmare. Also, why would you fall in love with an ossan who is like 40 when you yourself are like 14. Please someone call the police. But yeah, that’s the whole route, Greg is dead, we don’t hear about the others and Dag and Dick start have a very pedo relationship, nothing else really happens. That’s why I consider it the worst route of the game.

Guillered

This route start after Dick was stabbed and lost his memory of what happened before. He wakes up in a strange blue room with no memory and Guillered explaining to him who he is and asks him to help him protect this world from people who are jealous of it. Then he gives Dick some kind of spell, tells him they have similar souls or something and that he wants to introduce him to a friend, before he leaves. Meanwhile we learn that Cornel gem colour turned blue, and that he is now on the run from his (sex doll) brother and the iron soldiers, because he himself turn into what he hated the most. Dick on the other hand is chilling in Guillered’s place when he stumbles across a model of the city and wished to play in it, so the gem (which is blue at the moment) grants him that and he shrinks into the model but goes back to normal again shortly after. When Guillered comes back, he shows him the exact model and tell him this is where he likes to go when he wants to be alone. Then he tells Dick he wants them to be best friends (after stabbing him before mhm sure), they play for a bit and Guillered fucks off. Dick decided to stay overnight at Cornel’s model mansion, but suddenly the scene of Cornel fucking his robo bro(from all memories why this one????) flashes before his eyes. The next day when he becomes his normal size again he meets Master Northbrook aka Ioan in his adult form (which I 1000% prefer because he is not this awkward shota anymore). He is the friends Guillered was talking about before. Master Northbrook tell him that kids who have a blue gem, have reached maturity and that they need to drive them out because Guillered wants that. Cornel, who has been on the run for days now, collapses but is luckily found by Roddy who takes him to his house.

Meanwhile Dick begins to have weird dream about Guillered’s past, where it shows that he was the son of a crazy cultist bitch, who was scared of satan or something and that Guillered had a sister and brother. When the police found the cults house all the adults took poison and killed themselves, letting only the Guillered and his siblings alive, who were then taken to a children’s home, where they were bullied because they were different. Oh, and his brother is Dag btw. When Dick wakes up Guillered tell him how he found a red gem stone with his sibling and wished for a world they can be happy in and this is how Laughter Land came to be. Then he tells him that he wants to be deeply connected and gives him a footjob tf???? (What’s even with this crazy shota, go back play in the sandbox). The next day Guillered asks Dick to do him a favour, so Dicks walks around Laughter Land and starts to slowly get parts of his memory back. Then comes across some brats who are about to shoot a man on Guillered’s order, because he is blue, (what is it with everyone being a psycho in this game?) but luckily, they get distracted by someone telling them, that he saw Roddy hide a blue in their house. Dick then hurries and frees the poor guy so he can run before psycho shotas notice it. Then Dick goes to Roddy’s house and tries to see Cornel but then Cornel’s brother arrives and takes him with him, with baby Roddy trying to stop it. Dick returns back to Guillered place and is all in distrust of him now. After a talk with Master Northbrook he decided to rescue Cornel, which he does the next day, but not before Cornel’s brother puts him through hours of rape (of course). They rescue and hide him in one of the houses in the model. Meanwhile Guillered is suspicious of Dick and starts getting mad, but Dick insures him that everything is alright, then Guillered asks him if Dick likes him, and Dick is like “…Sure of course I do” and Guillered is all like “If you like me kiss me”. Dick is unsure of that, but his gem suddenly begins to glow, and he is suddenly in the mood to bang, so they have very illegal looking sex for way too long. A few days after Cornel heals, he wants to go to the Forbidden Zone since he is blue now and can’t live in Laughter land anymore. They make a plan to see him off at night, but when Dick tries to sneak out at night, he gets caught by Guillered, who is in even more distrust now and used the gem power to read Dick’s heart, then tricks Dick into walking right back to his place and goes super psycho mode on him. He screams at him how he trusted him and got deceived, then stabs a sword through Dicks throat, and carries his corpse to the jungle to feed it to crocodiles. After the credit he goes to Leesha to cry about how no one wants to be his friends and everyone just deceives him….Well no wonder you’re a narcistic piece of immature brain who thinks killing anyone who is more mature is fully acceptable. Guillered is clearly still under the influence of the crazy cult he was born in, despite his two siblings not being like him. In one flashback you can see him whip one of the kids from the cult. He was already a psychopath back then, who think growing up is some kind of curse that removes all the fun out of people, but by staying a stupid and immature child he is only hurting himself. Also, I find it strange that sexual activities aren’t considered a “mature” activity and don’t having any influence on the gem of the person. The route has no good end, there is only a bad end and a sad end, and looking at this psycho child I’m glad there is no.

True route

The true route is basically a continuation of Guillered’s route. We start after Dick had become crocodile dinner. The sky turned red which is caused by Guillered himself. Greg notices it and know that the phenomen from 20 years ago is repeating again (the one where Sergi was born and Laughter Land got attacked by monsters), he goes to Dag and meets there with Sergi who wants to leave the Forbidden Zone and go to Laughter Land, so Greg (and everyone else) decides to go with him.

Meanwhile Master Northbrook is on the search for Dick. With the help of his gem he is brought to the jungle, where Dick became the crocodile’s snack and noticed that Dick had died so he wishes for Dick to be alive again, but is instead sucked into Dick’s gem which emerges from the water of the swamp. There he meets an old lady who tell him where Dick is. Dick is unconscious and hanging upside down from a bar, with people throwing stones at him. Master Northbrook somehow manages to wake Dick up and revive him again, but as they are about to leave the swamp, red-gel like monster jump out of the water. Then the games shows Dag, Sergi, Aby and Greg as they are riding a carriage on their way to Laughter Land, where they get attacked by these monsters.  Dag, Greg and Aby decided to stay and die, letting Sergi escape because he is on the search for his mother. Segi meets fucking Zachariah and finds out that he has the ability to turn these monsters into water. Master Northbrook tell Dick that these monsters are called “nightmares”. Apparently, they evolve from the gem everyone has and act like parasites, where they multiply by the wishes a person makes. And the one creating these nightmares is Guillered himself. Meanwhile Sergi reached the “tree of the end” which is where Guillered is and where these nightmares are being born. Th next day Dick and Northbrook want to go confront Guillered but Dick tells Northbrook he wants to go alone because only he can save Guilllered. Sergi on the other hand has the “luck” to encounter Guillered and get stabbed and pinned to the tree just above Risha, who Guillered is using to create the nightmares from (she is somehow fused to the tree). Once Dicks shows up its final boss battle time. Here we find out that Dick’s special power isn’t actually reviving lost memories but to copy and manipulated others power, which he uses to win against Guillered. We also learn that the person he got the power from was from his grandma, who is the sister of Dag and Guillered (so Dick had been fucking the sibling of his grandmother……okay). In the end Dick has no choice but to kill Risha because she is too fused with the tree and if she continues to live, she will create more nightmares. After that Dick confronts Guillered once more, Guillered, now all old and wrinkly, tell him that all he tried was to make children, who had a terrible life, happy and that he only ever had one wish and that is to have a real friend, Dick regrets not being able to make the wish come true and Guillered dies. *Credit roll* In the post credit scene we see two boys, with one having moved to a new town running to play with other kids, these being of course all the main characters who now live together in the real world free from any difficulties they had to face.

(Why does Dag still has a beard though?)

I really like the ending and the general message of the game, even if most main characters of this game were children, if didn’t feel like you were playing a games aimed at children(well makes sense, since this is still 18+ after all, but the H-scenes beside it was dark in its own way). I honestly wasn’t expecting to like this game so much, so I’m glad I give it a chance. It always surprise me how good such old games can be because often people (myself included in the past) think that older games=bad. Kichiku Megane Review (kinda)

So mh…I started this game in 2021 and only recently have finished it……I have no excuses for this, it just took so long. Anyway, Kichiku Megane is a very well known BL game. It came out in 2008 and was produced by Spray. I played some spray games before, and they’re either hit or miss for me. So, lets get into the review~

Warning for discussion of 18+ content

Story

This story is about Saeki Katsuya a weak, pathetic office worker who, one day after another pathetic day at work encounters the mysterious Mr. R in the park. Mr. R gives him “special” glasses that make him confident and make all his wished come true. There is only one catch, once Katsuya put on the glasses he becomes a super ultra sadistic Megane, who enjoys nothing more than raping his victims. You as the player can decide now if you want to go the Megane way or the normal Katsuya way.

It’s pretty simple, Megane Katsuya tops everyone, normal Katsuya is always bottom. Some love interest can be top or bottom some can only be one. But no matter who, once they’re with Megane Katsuya they’re pretty much fucked (literally)

Lets make something clear in the beginning, this is mostly a parody game of all these evil Megane character tops and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, but despite that, I wouldn’t say I actually enjoyed much of the game, sure Megane Katsuya is funny in the beginning, but if you’re not into H-scenes and rape jokes it get’s boring very fast, which it did for me.

As for the office plot, I had to keep myself from not falling asleep (one reason why it took me forever to finish this). It’s very boring if you’re not into it. Katsuya works for a company that sells drinks with funky names and a good portion of the game is revolves around this, with Katsuya being Japanese he will of course put all his life into his jobs. And if you’re not play rapist Megane Katsuya its mostly just office plot.

Characters

Katsuya (see picture above)

Like mentioned Katsuya has 2 personalities, his weak (original) self and the Megane self, which could be almost counted as his own character. Normal Katsuya is very weak and pathetic, due to some trauma he suffered in middle school. He is kindhearted and a good worker but, but still often ends up a loser (I feel you Katsuya). Due to that he is easy to step on and some of the Love interest take that as an advantage. In some of the routes he actually develops a stronger personality and becomes more confident. Megane Katsuya is sadistic, overconfident and loves to torture people. Almost all of his routs ends up with the Love Interest stuck with Stockholm syndrome. This man also has an obsession with sticking random things in people’s butts. If you remain with Megane Katsuya he won’t be able to return to normal Katsuya anymore, even after putting the glasses off. There is even a bad end in which Megane Katsuya is even too evil for Mr. R and he kidnaps Katsuya to punish him lmao. 

I honestly didn’t enjoy neither Katsuyas. One is too weak and pathetic and the other is just an asshole and I don’t like these type of assholes.

Midou

Midou is Katsuya’s boss, and another asshole. He is very confident and proud. In his route Katsuya has to work with him for some new product they are selling.

His route was the first one I played. The moment Katsuya puts his glasses on he turns shitty rapist who uses Midou for his weird kinks or whatever and act all sassy with him, which was kinda funny in the beginning but as it keeps going, it starts to get boring. The route is basically just torture porn, with Katsuya abusing Midou until he turned into a soulless shell, and that was when Katsuya finally notices, that he maybe, should stop his “bullying” and abandons Midou. But of course, Stockholm syndrome hit Midou so hard that he suddenly gets his mind back and is all like “Katsuya I can’t live without you T_T” and reunites with Katsuya in the old dramatic Russian movie way and suddenly they were lovers, or something. I don’t know it was weird, and I didn’t really care?

If Katsuya doesn’t become the rapist, he will be raped. Midou turns big asshole energy on him and blackmails him (forgot with what, I played the route over a whole year in 2022 whoops) and uses Katsuya for his kinks or whatever. Of course, there is one scene where he is all “Katsuya you’re doing a good job” after Katsuya says he is worthless as a worker and Katsuya goes all “omg director Midou uwu dokidoki” and later confesses to him after more sexual harassment from Midou. He was all like “I don’t know why I like you, you treat me like shit and yet I still like you” yeah Katsuya I know why you like him, because Stockholm syndrome. Midou is confused in the beginning but decided “eh whatever might as well” so they finish their job successfully and it ends with Katsuya asking what Midou feels for him and Midou is like “aishiteruu” (I love you)……Bitch what?.

Katagiri (glasses)

Katagiri is the sweet naïve ojisan of the love interests, he is Katsuya’s manager and supporting him during his project. You can only play him with Magane Katsuya (probably because having to pathetic men wouldn’t work out well)

This route is basically as the same as other Megane Katsuya one. Katsuya helps Katagiri with something, so he invited Katsuya for dinner (already a mistake). Katsuya (in his sadistic Megane pride) shows up and immediately starts his evil plan to treat the poor Katagiri as shitty as possible. Katagiri makes another mistake by saying that he will do anything for Katsuya, since Katsuya is working so hard, so Katsuya first release the man’s pet birds and lets them fly out the window and then sexual harass him. This harassment continues with Katsuya raping him a few times after that. Katagiri is also so stupid enough to show up at his house (Stockholm Syndrome hits him very fast). So, somewhere along the line, Katagiri gets used to the constant rape and for some reason starts asking him for it, which leads to Katsuya getting bored and dropping him, because it’s not fun if he can’t force himself on Katagiri (……………. Okay). Followed by a “dramatic” scene in the rain where Katagiri clings to him and begs him not to leave him, because he now feels not like the loser he was before since his child died and his women left him. Katsuya is like “whatever” and just fucks off. After that there is more “Katagiri is so depressed” moments where he even wants to quit his job. (Katyua is still like “whatever”) So someday one of the bird Katsuya release flies in his apartment and Katsuya decides to bring the bird back to Katagiri, because it doesn’t want to leave alone, which he does. Arriving at his places Katsuya sees that he even plans to move out, so he talks to him and is suddenly like “oh no actually I totally like you, don’t quiet your job” like?????? Minutes ago, he didn’t care and now does? No development, no explanation, just very random confession. Katagiri of course is all happy and they live happy ever after.

Yeah, a very strange route, whith no development. I honestly can’t say who annoyed me more in this route Katsuya’s super sadistic rapey-ness or Katagiri being so unbelievable stupid and naïve. This old man was just so pathetic it was painful to watch, I was glad when I finally reached the end.

Honda

Honda is Katsuya’s bestie from university, they both were member of the volleyball club and now work together. You can play him both with Megane and normal Katsuya

So, this will be funny because I actually have forgotten what happened in this route…. I mean I played it over a year ago, but consider it’s Megane Super S Katsuya we all know what happened, well I do remember some things. Katsuya was pretty mean as always to Honda and somewhere along the way raped him. Honda was later kidnapped by a former classmate who was mad at him because of some stuff he did as the volleyball club captain in university. Katsuya had to show and saved his ass and of course it all ended with them being happy together….I really don’t remember anything I’M SO SORRY T_T Oh yeah in one of the endings Katsuya shows up to the place Honda was taken and just tells his kidnapper to do what he wants  AND JUST LEAVES ahdhhsj KATSUYAAA anyway he gets stabbed right after it by the dude, Karma winning again lol.

Honda as top was the best route to be honest. Not only did Katsuya actually grew as a character, but Honda was also a pretty good as a love interest…. Later on, before he wanted Katsuya to stay weak and a loser because Katsuya would rely on him…HONDA YOU LITTE FUC- *clears throat* anyway he improved later on. Of course, no route without a little Megane Katsuya harassment, which was the reason for drama in the beginning. But after it, there was a decant amount of (not forced) romance with Honda confessing and even waiting for Katsuya to respond. And even if you let Katsuya reject him he still wouldn’t try to do anything to Katsuya so yeah that was nice. Also, their H-scene was the one I actually read in this game (and they even used lube and condoms, god bless).

Aki (glasses)

Some shota who hangs out in a club and the first “man” Katsuya sleeps with after turning into super S Katsuya. Aki is annoying like you except a shota to be, and apparently still in fucking school bruh. I….aslo don’t remember much about his route actually but here it’s whatever because he is just horny for Katsuya’s D and that’s basically all. This route has no real “happy end” because it ends with Aki becoming Katsuya’s play toy (by his own free will), no dating, no confession, nothing. Not my thing, I don’t like shota and this had basically no plot.

Taichi (no glasses)

Taichi works in a café, or restaurant? Katsuya likes to visit often. Taichi doesn’t like Megane Katsuya so you can only play him in Normal Katsuya version. And I have to apologize again because I don’t remember the route…. It was too long ago, but I what I remember is that their relationship was actually really good with well development. But once again, we also had a Megane Katsuya moment where he decided he has to rape Taichi…god free me from this, I can’t take that anymore. Also, Taichi is actually part of a yakuza family lol. The route wasn’t bad as far as I can remember but for some reason Taichi just wasn’t my type and I can’t even explain why.

Mr. R and Bonus material

The more endings you finish the higher your chance is to get a “extra story” from pomegranates Mr. R gives you, which are 90% made of some horny fantasy stories of Katsuya fucking or getting fucked. We had classic things such as (plant) tentacle rape, threesome, gang bang and fat hentai ojisan (like why????), selfcest and Mr. R sucking Katsuya’s dick (lol) and there was one (more interesting) story about Katsuya school days. You see, Katsuya wasn’t such a loser always he was sociable and had friends, but through some trauma caused by one of his classmates who he thought as a friend, he became like he is now. In this story it shows that Mr. R actually already appeared to young Katsuya and told him about the glasses.

The very last bonus story broke my last brain cell, it featured normal Katsuya covered in cream and fruits getting fucked by Megane Katsuya……I lost it when Megane Katsuya put a banana in his mouth. (Please don’t talk to me about this, I want to drink to forget about it)

Music and Art

The music is pretty generic, the OP song “Under the darkness” is iconic at this point at in the BLVN community.

The art is very yaoi-core, it’s an old game so what else would you expect? What I always thought was amusing how normal Katsura suddenly becomes all “top” looking once he put the glasses on pfffff.

Conclusion

Did I enjoy it? No. Do I think this is worth playing? No. I don’t even know why I started playing it to begin with, this is clearly not for me. H-scenes don’t amuse me, and plot was terribly boring. I know some people like that kind of humour, but if you’re like me and prefer some good plot I wouldn’t recommend it. This game also has a fandisk but I don’t see myself playing it soon.

I just want to add a comment to this, since I’m the translator of the first version. The second translation was commissioned by a person on twitter and from their post I saw they wanted to be able to read the short stories. The commission was released after the English translation of the game in Nov 2022, while my version was out in Feb, 2022, a quick search would have shown that the stort story had long been translated.

I’m just assuming of course, but I think they didn’t like how the tone of my translation didn’t fit the English translation, which I have stated many times I find awful and disrespectful.

That besides, I want to use this opportunity to talk a little about the translation. This translation went through some re-translating and editing around the time of the English game release.

With my translation I always pay attention to keeping it as close as possible to the original tone and I spent many hours to fit the tone of the dialogue to the original. As the post above pointed out, the original text is 3rd person while the commissioned translation changed it to first person. (I assume the person commissioned was the original translator of the game because if it was someone else, they would have kept the original 3rd person narration, and the way the translated sounded exactly the same.)

And since the defender of the English translation of the game love to prove me wrong with a lot of arguments why the translation is good as it is, I thought let’s do the same. Let’s do the same, lets explain my translation (also gives me a good opportunity to show how I work.)

First thing I noticed is that some lines are missing? It’s mostly the moaning, but there is also one spoken line missing but I find it to be really unprofessional to just let out lines. I work line by line and usually don’t combine lines, since it’s easy to miss out on some of the parts. My translation is only based on what’s written in the original text only, I keep what I can and change only what needs to be changed for it to sound natural in english. In the case of this story, I sometimes had to include a few words to explain the Japanese lines better.

Let’s look at some examples:

“So, you’re attracted to me, and when our eyes meet, it makes your heart beat faster?”

The reason I used “heart beat faster” and I’m happy I can actually mention it here, is because Towa literally said “dokidoki” in the original which I thought was really cute and funny, I’m sure most people are familiar with this expression.

Mine: You could feel the dangerous tension in the air rise, because I was someone lewd who would sleep with anyone?”

The other TL: So I give off some kind of horny nympho energy?”

Yes, sure Towa doesn’t value himself a lot but even he himself just doesn’t used such hard words with himself (I don’t want to hear anything about the game TL) my line is basically what he says, which is that Fujieda could feel that Towa is a person who tends to have a lot of sexual intercourse with people, there is no reason to write it in such a degenerate way.

Mine: “Then, don’t you want to sleep with me?”

The other TL: “If you find me so sexy, then don’t you think maybe you should fuck me?”

This is horrible from a translation perspective, it’s obvious the other translator didn’t pay any attention to the mood of the scene and to Towa’s feeling. The original line isそれでも、俺と寝たいって思わないのか?  Towa uses the word 寝る here, which literally means “to sleep ” which is kind of weird to use in Japanese language, I don’t remember hearing this expression in that context anywhere else, usually they sayする,やるor抱く, in Towa’s case he is usually more direct and just says  “sex” (they use this word in Japanese too, but its too direct for most Japanese people so they rather use different words), but here he says “to sleep” instead. In such a situation it’s obvious that Towa is humble (he is Japanese after all), he is anxious because he doesn’t know what Fujieda wants, but he himself wants to know, so as mentioned in the line before, Towa decides to ask Fujieda directly what he is thinking but in a humble and careful way, that’s why I don’t understand why you would ignore that and just use “fuck”. I don’t even need to mention the “if you find me so sexy” part, he doesn’t say that at all.

Mine:“I’m trying them on for the first time.” The other: ”I dunno. Never worn glasses before.”

No idea, why he should say “I don’t know” Towa obviously knows why he is trying on the glasses.

“The change I wish for…is for you to not like only pain and wounds, but for them to be one of the many things you like.”

Haha, I remember that line, it sounded very weird in Japanese because Fujieday literally says here “I don’t want you to like pain and wounds, but I want you to also like pain and wounds.” Reading it in Japanese it makes sense for me but in English it doesn’t, so I decided to add some words here to get the meaning across.

Mine: Tickled by this action, Towa, trying to imitate him, put his fingers in Fujieda’s bangs and brushed them back.

Other TL: Gah, that tickles! Naturally, I responded by plunging both hands into his messy locks and giving them a good ruffle.

Obviously trying to force the non-existing first person narration. Also its not “ruffles his hair” he just pulls his bangs back to reveal his face.

Other TL: His apology was so needlessly earnest, it put a smile on my face. “No biggie—just surprised me, that’s all. I never would have guessed, based on my first impression of you.”

Towa would never, not even in one billion years say “No biggie” Stop trying to change the way he speaks.

And general changing the translation to a forced first-person narration already changes the intention of the original writer, if they wrote it in 3rd person then there was a reason to do so. If anyone needs proof of that, I’m always happy to provide scans of the short story. My translation is done without including my own opinion, everything is completely based on the original Japanese text, and before anyone opens their mouth again to teach me how “a translation isn’t supposed to be liTeRaL” it is not. I think it’s important to be close to the Japanese text because even one word or expression can change the intention a lot.I studied the language, I did classes for translations I know what I'm doing.

Anyway, I’m kind of sad that someone else had to go and make a new translation in the same tone as the game translation, I was hoping that even though I can’t save the game, I at least can do it justice with this short story translation, but we can’t have nice things in this world apparently.

Slow Damage Artbook SS: Translation Comparison

So to start, as far as I knew, there was only one fan TL of the artbook short story. Turns out, however, there was another one. I only knew about this when a friend shared with me their copy of the other translation.

I read it, and it read really differently from the translation I was familiar with, but not for the reasons I expected. It was then that I got an idea for something…

Now I previously made it clear in some of the fan translations I shared in these Carrds that I only repost translations of others only under very special circumstances (which is usually when one: the translation got taken down because the translator had deleted/deactivated their account some time ago and no other copy exists elsewhere, or two: there was some ugly drama involving the translator who then moved their translations to somewhere locked and private). 

In this case, I decided to try and make a line-by-line comparison of both translations of the artbook short story. Compare and contrast is the main purpose of this document, so I don’t encourage you to use this post as your means of reading through the SS in this particular document for leisure, but at the end of the day, it depends on what you prefer.

As a disclaimer: I got permission from the one who provided the first translation to share the translation from start to finish in this post (Note: the original link for their translation is here).

For the second translation… I could ask the other translator… but according to the friend who shared with me their personal copy of the translation (so I don’t know where it really came from, and my friend doesn’t remember the original link either), the translator – who was also commissioned by someone else, apparently – opted to stay anonymous.

And again, this post isn’t for casual reading purposes. It's just for you to see the difference in both translations for yourselves.

Friendly lab- unlock ()- Review (and walkthrough)

Friendly lab was one of the bl games I was looking forward the most since announcement, not only because I like the art-style but also because it’s by Tennenouji and I love Tennenouji. It was first release for mobile and now finally for PC too, unlike the mobile version the PC version is R18+ I only played the PC version because I don’t like mobile games, so everything that’s mobile only content only, won’t be discussed here.

The first part of the review will be spoiler-free and will include a walkthrough (kinda) and general help, as well as an explanation of the game since it’s rather complex. The second part will be me pretty much explaining everything that happened in the ending and how I feel about it. So let’s start~

This is as R18+ as it gets

Story and gameplay.

The gameplay is very simple to explain, you are doing “friendly” experiences on the 2 subject Nishi (left) and Higashi (right). Both wake up together in an empty room and don’t have any memory who they are and how they got here, all they know they are stuck together in a room and someone (in this case you) are performing experiences on them. As you continue to play the two test subjects will remember more and more about their life. As you proceed you will find more and more keywords to their past. The goal here is to collect them all and unlock their memories in the span of 10 day. They are always in that room, the game’s text is only the dialogue of these two characters, there is no BMG since some of the experiments have music in them and there is also no voice acting (so you don’t hear them speak). Which sound maybe boring for some people, but I thought it was really interesting to play, partly because both characters are really well written and developed and you just enjoy spending time with them and learning about their past. The closer you get to the end of the 10 days the more intense the story gets and the more on edge you are, wondering what will happen next. The game goes from light-hearted and fun to dark and heavy in the span of the 10 days. Even if the experiences are considered “friendly” it doesn’t mean that their memories are too. There is some heavy stuff in the game which some may find disturbing and hard to swallow. So general warning here. I played all 10 day glued to my seat and ended it with pain in my heart, it hurts a lot but it was really good written.

Characters

For once I would like to mention that their names are translated in the English version, so Nishi is “West” and Higashi “East”, I’m not sure why they did it, sure that what their name means in Japanese, but I don’t see a reason to translate it. Since I played the Japanese version, I will use their Japanese names.

Nishi

Nishi always talks in polite Japanese, he looks kinda shady (according to the creator, which is true lol) but he is very kind, especially to Higashi. And from the very beginning it’s very obvious how deeply in love Nishi is with Higashi, he always comments how great Higashi is and how he loves to see Higashi make x face (basically every facial expression of Higashi) the more you play the more horny his comments get (lol). Despite being extremely horny for Higashi he has full control of himself and doesn’t do anything Higashi doesn’t want, he cherishes Higashi a lot and would always help him and even gives him his food, just to see him happy. He is very smart and loves to tell Higashi all kinds of random facts. Nishi is always smiling, and his sprite is always looking to the side so it looks like he is smiling at Higashi (hehe so cute). Normally I’m not into the polite type, but I love Nishi a lot, he is just so funny and cute and loves Higashi so much.

Higashi

Don’t get deceived by his cute face, he has a body builder body and would probably crush you in 0.2 seconds, but despite that Higashi is really cute, he has a somewhat childish attitude and loves aliens, he loves to play games and he draws if he feels like it (you can get him to draw pictures for you). Higashi doesn’t understand Nishi’s obvious flirting, he understands what Nishi is saying but he always thinks that since they are both boys it can’t be that Nishi is meaning it in such a way, but he enjoys being with Nishi and doing things with him. It's very obvious that he has some kind of trauma from his past and he often panics if he sees certain things, with Nishi always being there to comfort him. I love Higashi as much as Nishi, he is adorable and has a very cute happy smile, his past is very tragic and it hurt seeing him suffer so much, so I want him and Nishi just to be happy together.

Art & Music

As said before there is no music lol, but there is an opening which I really like.

The Cgs are drawn by queen Yura and are rather dark and lack colour, they have a very depressive vibe similar to some of the one in luckydog1+ bad egg, which I really really like. They fit the dark atmosphere of the game very well. There are some really cute CGs for Higashi and Nishi, but also a lot of disturbing CGs that are even hard to look at. Yura really did a fantastic job as always.

Short conclusion

Yes, the game is great, yes please play it and suffer with me. But if you can’t stand dark, heavy themes and see gore then I don’t recommend it, this is NOT a game for anyone who just wants to see some fluffy BL moments and cute romance, and also NOT a game for people who just want to see sex. There are, of course H-scenes in the game but, I can’t really say if watching them would make you happy. But if you’re fine with going through pain and suffer then I fully recommend it. 👍

Walkthrough and Gameplay explanation

(Short disclaimer, I don’t know how these things will be called in the English version, I just choose what I think fits best)

So, the main game is basically to find all the keywords in time before the 10 days are over. To unlock them you have to fill them out, like this

You have to do experiment to find hints for the keywords. You can find keywords in the experiences that don’t have this symbol:

You can select what experiments you want to do from these possibilities:

From left to right: Spying, Meal, Special things, Incidents, Amusement, water thingy (will be unlocked if you ask questions), question, pictures (bath and sleep) are not important The most important part are Spying - Amusement and the pictures tab You have to choose Spying basically every second time. While you can get hints in the experiments only the spying option will unlock the keywords.  You don’t have to do all that the game offers you on the day but around 80% of the Spying part since you can’t watch them on the next day like with the experiments.

Important is also for Higashi to draw you pictures to unlock certain ends.

Another things which is important to get some cute Cgs between Higashi and Nishi is the “intimacy %”

Fill it up to 100% before the day is over and you get some nice CGs (The day starts at 7:30 and ends at midnight when its bed time, at 6 p.m, it’s bath time until 6:30)

You also have the option to ask them question, this is more important for other ends than for the main endings. They sometimes will request things, if you fulfill their request in time, you can choice if you want some “happy gas” or “café au lait”. Give them several of one of these things and see what will happen. (You can only give them “happy gas” while they sleep, the café au lait is the “special things” tab at the very bottom)

There is also this water thing you have to fill to see “birth” fill it out if you have time and see what happens.

I recommend you to do reach one end no matter which, because the game will unlock a hint mode once you reach an end that can be used to get all ending in the game once you unlock hint mode for end 3 and finish it you can unlock hint mode for end 5, both helpful to complete the game.

Also another important thing: YOU CANT SAVE (meaning you have to restart from day 1 if you want to do different endings

General walkthrough (I stole it from the Japanese wiki lol)

Ending 1:  Follow hint mode for ending 3, don’t do 4-5 experiments that have keywords on the 10th day (I tried to get this end 2 times but failed, but apparently its an end that happens if you fail to collect all keyword in a specific way? But it’s not that important)

Ending 2: Follow the hint mode for ending 3 and choose to tell the true in the end.

Ending 3: Follow the hint mode for ending 3 and choose not to tell the true in the end. (you can get this end even without having to choose in the end)

Ending 4: finish end 3, follow hint mode for ending 3 and full the water thingy, the difference will happen after the ending 3.

Ending 5: Follow hint mode for ending 5 and do the the 5th black square experience.

Ending 6: Follow hint mode for ending 5 and do the the 5th black square experience but before you have to upload your game to version 1.5 or 1.6, you can do this by asking them question. (apparently the question with (↑) help with this but I not really sure because I also asked them just random question and it still worked. But you have to ask them a lot of question for it to work)

Ending 7: Follow hint mode for ending 3, use the “happy gas” 8 times (I don’t know if I recommend this end first or not, maybe it better to finish that in the beginning if you want to at least to enjoy the H-scenes? But you will be left with question, so keep that in mind)

Ending 8: Follow hint mode for ending 5, use the café au lait 8 times and give the 9th to Higashi, you also need to do the “a lump of ??? experiment.

Ending 9: Use the café au lait 8 times and give the 9th to Nishi, you also need to do the “a lump of ??? experiment, you need to finish ending 4

Ending 10: Follow hint mode for ending 5, do all the experiments with (★) in it, do as many experiments that raise the intimacy level as much as possible. (The one with the pink hand symbol)

Warning: If you want to play the game yourself don’t read the next part, the memory of the characters is the most important part of the game and the reason why its so interesting to play, I will talk about everything what happened in the game, only continue if you don’t plan on playing or really don’t care.

Story

Before I played the game myself, I watched some videos of the mobile version online and really enjoyed it. It was fun to watch the characters react and although I heard form Japanese player that the game is sad, but I didn’t expect it to be, no not even bitter-sweet but a full on tragedy with no real happy end for neither of it’s characters.

Let me tell you in summary what things the memories of Higashi and Nishi will reveal. I don’t remember every single details since the memories are told in a not chronical order but I try.

In the game you mostly looking for Higashi’s memory because surprise Nishi remembers everything (explains why he has such an obvious crush in Higashi). The story basically start when Higashi was in elementary school his parents divorced and he chose to life with his mother, because Higashi really loves his mother a lot. In the first day of the experiments Higashi wants to escape so he can meet his mother again, but later we find out that his mother was actually murdered, of course Higashi wants to know why and who did it. But before the murder took place, his mother had a boyfriend after she separated from Higashi’s father, who was really controlling of her and abusing of Higashi (like with beating and all). Through the experiments we learn that Higashi was apparently tortured by various things like, burning his feet or giving him piss to drink. Baby Higashi had not a lot of friends in school and often was scared to go home. He even mentioned how a perfect day for him is a day when nothing bad happens. Because if his heavy trauma he has nightmares that he often draws pictures of (these are really scary to look at).   After Higashi remember that his murder was killed, he remembers how; she was poisoned by someone, someone who gave Higashi a present his mother eat and this was what had killed her. There is another important thing Higashi’s remembers that he had an important person who ones went to a summer firework festival. After Higashi came back from this summer festival his mother’s boyfriend got so mad and beat Higashi so extreme that this poor boy was in the hospital for 2 MONTHS ((T⌓T)), after release he was put in the children care center for one month but returned home later because he couldn’t leave his mother alone who was really bad at doing everything according to Higashi. His mother’s boyfriend was actually put in jail for that, which took place in the 6th year of elementary school, his mother was killed when he was in the 2nd year in middle school. All memories he had were only until the day his mother died, everything after was still in the dark.

So now to the important question, what about Nishi? What roles does he play? Well turns out Nishi and Higashi actually knew each other before, not only knew but they were actually best friend (༶ඬ༝ඬ༶) who played together all the time after Nishi moved to Higashi’s city. Nishi’s mother had a terrible accident that lead to her being heavy injured and even killed Nishi’s unborn sister, they moved to a bigger city to care for her, Nishi’ father is a man who works with Chinese medicine, I think? Nishi went to a different elementary school than Higashi but these two still spent a lot of time together. Nishi didn’t really go to middle school because he was always helping his father with work, who was home rarely. More important, Nishi was the one who Higashi went to the firework festival with (there is this really cute picture he draws of them as babies watching the fireworks (ಥ﹏ಥ)), and not only that but he actually lived a whole month with Nishi and his mother, after the abuse thing with his mother’s boyfriend.

On the 8th night (I think) before the go to sleep, Nishi tell Higashi he has something important to tell, and then he tell him how he was the one who actually killed his mother (Σ(°ロ°)) he used a toxic flower covered with chocolate which he knew his mother would eat because HE HAD GIVEN HER POISEN FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS (now that’s a twist… apparently she was sick in some way anyways so no one had noticed it before). Higashi flips and starts to strangle Nishi asking why he would do that but Nishi wants him first to remember everything, (Also, important to note that Higashi even though he is smaller, he is stronger than Nishi) so he stops and says that he doesn’t hate Nishi because he promised never to hate anyone ever again, he just feels very sad and wants to know why he did it. The following day Higashi remembers even more time he had spent with Nishi, but also remembers that Nishi’s mother actually died later which he really feels sad about because he really liked her a lot and wanted to meet her again. At night he once again starts to strangle Nishi wanting the reason for his mother’s death but stops because he gets some really weird flashbacks of Nishi.

On the last day you collect the last memories of Higashi and get more pictures from him (which play an important role actually). Higashi also remembers that he got a call right after he saw his mother die. Once the day is over Nishi and Higashi sit down to reveal the final missing puzzle. Everything from here was hard to swallow. It was Higashi’s mother’s birthday and Nishi gave Higashi the poisonous flower which he gave to his mother, which she ate and died. Shocked, Higashi gets a call from his Nishi with Nishi telling him that he was the one who killed her, Higashi is shocked and Nishi tells him to come over to his house so he can explain why. Hiagshi rushes over completely angry at him and attacks him, Nishi tell him that he want to listen to his last request but Higashi completely flips and starts to strangle Nishi until blood starts to drip from his eyes and mouth…………Higashi actually killed Nishi in that moment, he really died and Higashi remembers it now, the worst part is that Nishi knew it, he knew Higashi would kill him for it and he actually dug a hole in his garden so HIGASHI COULD BURY HIM(……I have no words). Nishsi actually left him a letter telling what to do once he killed him, but this is where it gets even worse, once Higashi realized he killed his best friend he completely loses it and begins to hit his head against something (don’t remember what exactly) until he CRUSHES HIS HEAD AND DIES. He literally committed suicide right there on spot, he died, Nishi died, they have been dead the whole time, that’s why Higashi couldn’t remember more because there was never a future to begin with. There were only 14 years old…. o(TヘTo) Hello darkness my old friend~

Nishi didn’t know that Higashi, too died on that day and is shocked to find it out. Once all of this is out you can choose if you want to tell Higashi the true or not

-If you don’t: Nishi will tell Higashi that he killed his mother because he wanted to free Higashi from her, because as long as she lived Higashi has to care for her and never can live the life he wanted. Then Nishi tells him since he now told Higashi everything, Higashi is free to kill him, but Higashi tells him that he won’t and that he still wants them to be best friends. The only question remains, if they died when they were 14, how are they alive, why do they look older now? (around 18, 19 ) Well, this question will probably never be answered, there is no full explanation who is behind this all, why are they alive, or are they even alive? It ends how it started with them in the room together.  (this is the end 3)

-If you do tell the true: Higashi will get a card and the only thing written on it is “Your mother abused you”, Yes Higashi’s mother was behind Higashi’s abuse, she did these horrible things to him not only her boyfriend, she burned his feet so he couldn’t go to school, she fed him rotten food and the piss. That’s the true reason Nishi killed her, because she abuse Higashi, but Higashi was so manipulated by her abuse that he still loved her. Once Higashi reads that he begins to remember, from the picture he drew what his mother did to him (that’s why they were important) but this is too much for him that he dies right in Nishi’s arm. Nishi follows right after. It seems Nishi knows that they can both died from that and the game hints that this experiment is constantly repeated, so they live and die in a circle. (ending 2)

Ending 2 & 3 are both like the true endings, yes this is all you get utter depression. I can’t with Nishi, he knew Higashi would kill him and yet he still couldn’t see him suffer from abuse, despite knowing the whole time he was dead he never was mad at Higashi ever he always looked at him with the most loving eyes, the love he had for Higashi was tragic, that ended in a tragedy for both of them. I can’t even be mad at Nishi or Higashi, I fully understand Nishi’s reasons and how can you be mad at Higashi for killing him when Nishi himself isn’t. Higashi was only a victim of abuse which led to all of this. If you finish the ending 3 you can read the letter Nishi wrote him before his death in the game start menu. In it it’s says how Nishi wants him to bury him in the garden and that he should go to the police after and how he saved money for Higashi so he can survive alone and there rest I will maybe know some day if I can stop crying while reading the letter………………….

Also you don’t get any H-scenes not even a kiss, this is just a full on depression game. Yet I’m still fine with it, it was a beautiful written tragedy, I just wanted them to be happy (╥﹏╥)

Ending 1: Like said I never did it because I couldn’t get it for some reason, but it’s a fail end where you fail to find all of Higashi memories and Higashi doesn’t remember killing Nishi or dying himself and Nishi doesn’t know he died (is what Japanese people told me).

Ending 4: Its basically ends with ending 3 and then you see Higashi and Nishi being reborn in some tank or some shit? Is it a hint that they were born in a labor and they only have memories from their previous life? I don’t know…You can only get this end once.

Ending 5: The black square will swallow Nishi and cut off his bottom part and he dies in Higashi’s arm. (very bloody end)

Ending 6: Same experiment as for ending 5, but this time they can pass through the square and leave the room only to end up in?? good question, it looks like outside but there is no other person also a piece of meat falls from heaven…okay?

Ending 7: The horny end lol. You have to give them the “happy gas” and Higashi gets high and horny and starts to make out with Nishi in the first night and they gradually make more nsfw things which ends with sex at the 8th time. This is the only way to get anything sexual between them, yes by drugging. The sex scene was WILD, Nishi tells Higashi that he needs to tell him thanks you for killing his mother or he won’t do xxx so he does while they go for it….eh ok. This feels even weirder if you know that they are both dead.

Ending 8: Higashi gets high from coffee and thinks he is eating his mother’s sandwich but he is actually eating Nishi’s hand….. Nishi is just fine with it (Okay Nishi you big simp)

Ending 9: Nishi gets high and remembers things he shouldn’t so the experiment is just stops?

Ending 10: Jeez, this one was the worst x.x If you raise their intimacy level really high, at night when they supposed to go to bed they let this giant man in the room ( I think it's Higashi’s mother’s ex?) and HE BEGINS TO HIT HIGASHI AND NISHI AND RAPES HIGASHI, Nishi and Higashi then try to kill him and somehow made it. It ends with Higashi crawling naked to Nishi who was laying on the floor completely covered in blood, saying that he only needs Nishi………………………………………………… WHY DO YOU GET THAT FOR RAISING THEIR AFFECTION TENNENOUJI WHYYY.

Nie no machi Fandisk bonus story (Asuku vers.)

It might had taken a year but as promised here is the finished translation of the Asuku bonus story from the fandisk. Editor-san 2 for helped me with this and had some really nice contributions. I even bought a scanner to scan the cover :D This is all for the 5 nie no machi fans out there haha

It was a hot summer day; the temperature had reached over 30°C and even the news had been giving a heat stroke warning since the early morning. I was on my way to work in the burning heat, when I found a cardboard box with a carelessly written note on it stating, “we have too many, please take it.” Inside was a small crying kitten. Nearly its whole body was black, aside from the part around the kitten’s mouth and its paws, which were white, it also had a long tail. It was a pretty cat, so I didn’t understand why someone would just throw it out. The box had only a small amount of water and food in it, and I couldn’t just leave it in the blazing sun, so I took it to work. When I entered the office, most of my coworkers immediately came over. After I explained the situation to them, one of them told me they would be so kind as to take care of the kitten while I worked. However, this was only the start of all my problems. My coworker told me they were taking care of a cat for one of their friends, who was currently in the hospital. There was a risk that the kitten could get infected with a disease if he had the other cat, and because of that he couldn’t take it. After thinking about what I’m going to do with the kitten for the next 2 week until their friend gets released from the hospital, I decided to take care of it myself.

“…. And that’s what happened.” I told Asuku about everything over the phone. “Didn’t you say that you weren’t allowed to have pets in your apartment, Hisora?” Asuku asked me simply, after silently listening to me talk. “That’s right …. But there was no one else who could take it. And I couldn’t leave it at work, so I brought it home. Also, my work coworker pointed out I should put a missing report just in case, so I did that too.” “Hm, but is this really okay for you? As far as I know, you’ve never taken care of a cat, right?” “No, this is my first time, but my coworker told everything I need to know, so over the next two weeks I’ll manage it somehow.” “I see. Did you get it dewormed? How about checking it for ticks and fleas?” “I went to a vet clinic after work and got it done. They put some medicine arounds its neck. Actually, they told me it needs to go through some more examinations, so I’ll take it to the vet the next time I’m off-work.” Even while talking on the phone, the cat was walking around in my room. It was as if everything was new for the kitten and it sniffed around exploring various things. “Is it an adult?” “No, it’s still a kitten. They said it’s around 3 months old.” “Ah, so it’s around the time when it’s the cutest.” “Yeah. I bought a book on how to care for cats and was just reading it earlier. There were a lot of things about cats that I didn’t know so I was surprised.” “For example?” “Eh, let me think…. apparently, the male cat will bite the neck of the female when they mate. Sounds kind of scary.” “…. What’s with that random fact?” “Ah, but you see…. It surprised you right?!” “Haha… What did you name it?” “Stop laughing! I named it ‘Cat’.” “…. Are you serious? A cat name ‘Cat’…” “I-is that so weird?” I followed Cat with my eyes while talking on the phone. It had finally found the ball toy for cats I had bought earlier and began to play around with it. It was cute. I never had pets, so I didn’t know they could make a home feel so alive. I could have watched it forever. “…Hey, are you listening.” “What? Oh, sorry. What did you say?” “You seem busy.” Asuku told me in an amused tone. He must had sensed what I was doing. “I would love to see the cat.” “Then be sure to come by, it’s incredibly cute.”

Although I had spontaneously invited Asuku to come and visit, a week of me living with Cat had already passed. It was a really lively kitten, that had a lot of energy to sprint around. Generally, it was well-behaved, but sometimes it would surprisingly bite me in the foot when I would walk around. I even bought a 3 level-cage for it and had to keep Cat in it during the day when I was at work. As a result, it made me want to at least let it roam around freely when I was at home. Nevertheless— “Hey, I told you not to go there. The wires there are dangerous for you!” Even if I told the cat that, there was no way it would understand me, and of course I knew that, but it just kept slipping out of my mouth. Besides it’s still a kitten and curious so I never knew what it would do next. That’s why I always had to keep an eye on him, or I would feel uneasy. I would have never imagined that taking care of a one single kitten would take so much time…. I hadn’t ever had the chance to take care of a pet, so each day continued to be full of surprises. The cat kept meddling in when I was on the phone with Asuku at night, and thanks to that we couldn’t even talk peacefully. “Haa, sorry. It’s nice that it’s become so lively, but if I take my eyes off it for a second it will run off, and I can’t find it anymore.” “Animals sure are hard to deal with. They don’t understand what we say, but it doesn’t mean we can just leave them be.” “Even now, it’s behaviour seems a little strange to me.” Cat was wandering around aimlessly near the fridge. A few days ago, it had climbed in the gap between the fridge and the wall and couldn’t get out, when it panicked, I had to rescue it. I made a cardboard wall to cover the gap so it shouldn’t be able to climb in again, but….. “It will probably try to climb in again.” “In what?” “The gap behind the fridge. The last time it couldn’t get out, so I’m wondering why it’s trying to get in again?” “I heard that cats like narrow spaces. “ “There are wires in the back, that’s why I’m scared.” “Ah, I get that. ….Oh right, by the way, about the store you had said you want to go to—” “Oh no, it jumped over!” Cat moved its back in wavy motions and in the next moment did a big jump over the cardboard. Oh no, it got stuck again, although it wouldn’t be able to get out anyways because of the cardboard wall. “Hey, Cat! You can’t go there.” “…. It jumped over?” “It jumped over! Sorry, I’ll call you back!” I ended the call and immediately tore off the cardboard wall. Never had I imagined it would have such a powerful jump…. Somehow, I managed to grab Cat, who was hiding far in the back and got it out. “Why did you crawl in there?” I even took measures, so it wouldn’t climb in dangerous places, but the cat used its own intelligence trying to overcome it. Although I was impressed by its cleverness, I also just wanted it to realise the danger. “….I did something bad to Asuku again.” This whole week I been cutting off our phone conversation in the same way. I thought about calling him again, but doing something about the gap had taken priority. He had plans to come over in 2 days anyways, so I would apologize for everything then. Well, he had a gentle personality now, so I don’t think he would get angry over such a thing…. “But if he gets angry, it’s all your fault.” When I told this Cat, who I was holding in my hands, it gave me a cute meow in return.

On my day off, Asuku, just as promised, came over to hang out.   I immediately tried to show him Cat, but for some reason it kept running around the room in a violent speed. “I wonder if it’s scared because it doesn’t know you.” “But didn’t it like you from the start?” “That was because it was a little weaker back then. Anyways, please wait, I will bring it over.” The trouble only started from then. While trying to catch the sprinting Cat, I also ended up running around the room. I wished I had put the cat in the cage before Asuku came over. “I said wait! He won’t do anything to you.” I tried calling it, but Cat had no intention on listening. Even though Asuku took the time to come over, all I ended up doing was chasing it. “Jeez, he really is a fast guy.” “…..” This hand to hand fight lasted around 20 minutes. Eventually, Cat calmed down and jumped at the cat toy I was holding in my hand. “Good job…. You finally decided to give in, huh? Here look at it, it’s cute, isn’t it? “It really is.” “And if you touch its fur, it will feel all smooth. It’s incredible nice to touch. Come on, touch it, Asuku!” “Alright…. Oh, it really is.” “Its eyes are really cute, too. Right now, they are already very big but if it gets dark, they get even bigger!” “I know.” The tone of Asuku’s voice sounded strange. When I looked at him, he was smiling, however I had the feeling that his expression was a little stiff. Could it be that he didn’t get along well with cats? But when we went to the zoo together before, Asuku had mentioned that he liked animals. That’s why I didn’t think he hated cats…. When I thought about it, the cat suddenly laid down. That would happen often, when it ran out of energy, it would take a nap. I wonder if it meant that if felt relaxed enough to sleep even with Asuku in the room. “It was running around the whole time and now suddenly it got bored, interesting right?” “Will it sleep for a while after running around like that?” “Yeah, I think it will sleep for some time. That’s why it’s easy to hold it right now. When I stretched out my arms to pick up the cat, Asuku used his hands to block me. He grabbed my arm and pulled me towards himself. “W-what’s wrong?” “It’s my turn now.” Asuku moved his face closer to mine, when our lips were about to touch, he pressed me against the wall with his hands in a rush. “T-the cat might see us.” “….” Asuku stared at me. “You’re mean.” “Whaa!” He playfully bit the palm of my hand, making my hips feel cold for a moment. My voice could wake up the cat. Somehow, it felt like we were being watched, trying to do something we shouldn’t, so I tried to come up with an excuse in my head. “I-it’s fine. We were just….playing a little.” I got embarrassed so in order to escape Asuke, I walked up to the cat. I would never have imagined he would do something like that so suddenly…. ….No, it’s wasn’t weird or anything. We were going out after all. It's just…there was a timing for such a thing. I wasn’t ready for that at all, so I accidently showed him the cold shoulder. “….” ….Asuku’s gaze hurt. But I want him to forgive me. Even if I told him that in front of Cat, I didn’t think he would accept my apology at all. “Ehm….Later? “Later.” Asuku showed a grin again, but for some reason his voice sounded cold and let a shiver run down my spine. We spent so much time taking care of Cat that before we knew it, it was already evening. So, we decided Asuku would spend the night at my place. Once we had finished eating dinner, it was time to take a bath. “….” Asuku didn’t talk a lot, it reminded me of the time we spent in the inn. He tried to invite me to take a bath together, but if we did Cat would be alone. I could have put it in the cage like I always do…..but the cat could immediately sense my intention and started going wild again, not wanting to locked in the cage. In the end, we decided to take a bath separately.

“I’m done. Thank you for looking after Cat in the meantime.” When I finished my bath and hurried back to the living room, Asuku suddenly pulled me by the arm. “Let’s go.” “Huh, where to?” “Bedroom” Asuku pulled my arm and headed towards the bedroom in a hurry— when Cat followed us, it must have sensed our intention of going to bed. “Come here, Cat. “ When I kneeled down and stretched my arms out, the cat naturally began to put its front paws on my arms—but before it could, Asuku grabbed it from the side and took it up in his arms. “What, Asuku wants to hold you, too? Isn’t that nice, Cat?” “….” Asuku was silence for a while, then turned his back at the door, that connected the living room and the corridor, block it while still holding the cat. He raised his hand a few times, while having his gaze fixed on me, somehow his eyes looked as they were begging me. Then in an ingratiated voice he said: “Hisora, Cat will sleep in the cage, so I want you to put Asuku to bed tonight, meow.” For a moment I was confused about what had just happened. When I remained frozen, Asuku doubtfully asked me “….No?” while bending his head slightly to the side. The sadness in his voice, made me realise, Asuku had been patient the whole time. Of course, I knew that, but I only had Cat on my mind. And I wanted to apologize to him about my inconsistency with our recent calls anyways…. I couldn’t let him wait any longer. “Alright. From now on…. It’s time for Asuku.”

In that case, it really was time to say goodbye. I was sad, but I was sure it would lead a happy life at my coworker’s place, who was more knowledgeable. In addition, I was looking forward to news about it growing up. I told myself that and send the kitten off with a smile. That night, I was talking with Asuku on the phone while crying. “I see, so it was today….. and now you feel lonely.” “Yeah, b-but I’m sure….it will be loved. My coworker-hic….is a very kind person.” I sniffled “You don’t have to cry like that, I’m still here with you.” “…. Yeah.” I replied between sniffles. The kitten was a lot of trouble while we were together, I even had become dizzy at some point because of that, and yet I would have never imagined how lonely I would feel once it was gone. I wouldn’t hear its sweet voice, the sound of it running around on the flooring, or the sound of it sharpening its claws. It was terribly quiet, and it made me terribly sad. “I…. want to have a cat someday. When we will live together, I want a cat to live with us.” “Alright. Then let’s move into a pet friendly apartment when the time comes.” “Yeah.” Since I remembered all the things about my brother, there was still, even if only slightly, memories of my brother left in the house. If I were to leave this place it would feel unforgiving, like I would throw away my brother again— but in that case, I wanted to live a new life, with a new family at a new place. “….But if possible, In the first year I want it to be only the two of us.” “Hm? Haha. Yes, I’ll make sure to have enough time for you, too.” “It’s a promise after all.” Asuku said and laughed over the line. But I’m sure if we were to keep a cat, Asuku would also fall madly in love with it. I didn’t know when that day would come, but I was now really looking forward to it.

Description:

Five years later they’re living together and keeping a low profile, to avoid rousing suspicion over what happened then. Short Introductions to BL Games (Part 1)

For the longest time I had the idea to do a short introduction to all the different bl games I played, as a way for people to figure out if certain games are for them or not, and this day finally came. So, starting from today I will do short introductions, with a general rating of the story, characters and so on of every game. (I try to give a more neutral opinion, but some things are still based on my perception of the game) In addition I will add some extra comments on every game, so people know what to expect.

This is NOT a recommendation list, just an introduction, you decide yourself if you want to play it.

The rating goes from 1 (weak) to 5 (strong).

Higher story rating means the it's more unique and captivating.

The higher the romance is the more developed and focused it is.

Sadness level is obvious, the higher the ranting, the more tissues you need. Level of disturbing includes content that can make you feel unwell as well as the amount of rape (we know bl game writers love them) so the higher the rating the higher the the amount of it in the game.

Konno Teppei suddenly loses consciousness on his way home from work in the evening. He wakes up surrounded by ruins and old buildings. He, along with several other men, are in an abandoned amusement park.

A jump back to the past: Re-visiting Dramatical Murder (Review)

This took way too long to write but anyways —

10 years ago (yes, I’m old) I started playing BL games (Yes, I was already legal of age) with my first being Togainu no chi and dmmd shortly after, so as a small “anniversary” I thought I re-visit both games and see how they stood the course of time.

To have no influence on any translation, I played it completely in Japanese and it did affect my opinion.

Just a warning, I’m going to be harsh here, so if you can’t stand me judging your favourite game better not read it, of course not all is going to be negative.

Story

If you ask me what the story of this game is, I would just shrug. “Clown antagonist doing clown things but in most routes it doesn’t even matter”? The story is not really exciting most of the time MC is busy running through the LI routes as fast as possible. The game wastes no time getting right to the problem of the route, leaving no time for you to really get to know the characters and develop a bond to them, which leads to you not caring about whatever happens with them. There are more than enough plot-holes, which you have no choice but to accept. Romance is forced and doesn’t feel proper developed, like they had run out of time and decided to end it, leading to my next point: the individual routes are way too short, playing them feels like you’re just checking off things that needed to be included in the story rather than playing a coherent route.

There is no sense of time in this game (especially in the routes), the characters are busy sleeping more than anything, the days feel like they’re only last 2h, you don’t see them do normal things (like eating, showering) often. Also, I hate how they made this cool concept of Rhyme and then just never used it for something more? What was even the point then???

Characters

Aoba

I have conflicted feeling for Aoba, I felt bad for him in some routes. He didn’t do anything wrong, but he was the one who had to apologize for his partner doing shit? But most of the time I didn’t really like him, for once his Tsundere-ness was getting on my nerves, the LI shows him his feeling and this man goes “agdhdhs” and starts blushing, telling his partner he is baka/childish whatever. Him going from “Man don’t kiss each other” to “I love to kiss man” made no sense, I don’t even get why he is running after 80% of the Love interest in the game, half of them treated him like shit and the other half was served to his feet and he just accepted it with no development at all.

Another part I really dislike is how unbelievable stupid he can be, the story would move so much faster if he actually used his brain for once and not spend 70% of the day sleeping. Despite being old enough he acts like a child, especially with Noiz, I don’t know if this was supposed to be “cute” but it sure enough wasn’t for me.

He is just the very stereotypical BL Tsundere MC who is not especially smart but for some reason is super strong (even if he was too much of an idiot to actually use his powers).

Mink

I played Mink’s route first because it the one I remembered almost nothing from. And first I would like to say that I do like routes/ending that go away from the traditional “get to know fall in love” elements in bl routes. And I did like that, but what I didn’t like is the stupid force rape in the middle which is another case of “more forced H-scenes to get them to a certain number”. Yeah, yeah I get it he tried to pull out the other Aoba but it felt just unnecessary.

Despite that I though the ending part of the route was rather interesting showing in a way that Mink cared his teammates and Aoba enough to not get him involved in his revenge part. Sadly, the whole route cuts off before any further explanation from Mink or the full reunion with Aoba is shown, which lets most player being angry at Mink than anything else. And there is no happy end H-scene which kinda sucks because all you get is rape and sex forced by drugs. It's fine if they wanted to write a different kind of story but either pull through with the no romance plot or continue it, don’t just let you player stuck in the middle.

I’m going to jump to Re: connect too because I feel like you can’t talk about Mink’s route without mentioning it.

Aside from the fact that it makes no sense for Aoba to follow a person who hurt him (but we just pretend Aoba is just that kind of a good person, and hey what makes sense in this game anyways) In my personally opinion (before anyone gets the pitchforks ready) I thought they work best as a couple and this is the route, in which Aoba experiences the most grow.

Let me explain, rather than forever living his boring life on the island he actually goes out to see the world and lives in a completely new country, takes on responsibilities and gets to know and (respect) another culture. Not only that but he also drops his Tsundere act, starts to be more demanding of his desires, and gains more confidence. He doesn’t give up even if he is rejected and shows his feelings more open without becoming a blushy mess, and I really appreciated that. In addition, we get so see a complete new (or rather the actual) side of Mink who is a very calm and soft person and normally wouldn’t lay a hand on anyone.

And before I go on a ramble on how much I love their Drama CD I stop here.

Clear

Clear was always my favourite character back in the old days, but his route was never my favourite and now after replaying I know why. The reason is his route sucks, let me explain there is a severe lack of romantic development, from the start on we see Aoba being really rude to Clear, even using violence on him, even though Clear was just trying to be nice, it’s obvious he doesn’t understand certain things, but no-brain Aoba doesn’t seem to get it.  

Going from that to him suddenly being in love in like 3 days just doesn’t make any sense, did just a little singing and Clear talking about the meaning of life the trick? or maybe it was his face? Who knows.

And now I will get all the pitchforks turned at me again, but I have to say it: Clear being attracted to Aoba, yes even in the “like” way, felt forced because of the whole “him being his Master thing”. It felt like Clear only like him and was attracted to him because of his voice and not to Aoba as an individual person.

What also really annoyed me was that nothing basically happened, the days were over before they even started. They arrived in platinum jail, went to sleep, woke up, conflict, day over back to bed, repeat. The dying sex scenes was ridiculous too, another case of “I have no idea where to put the sex-scene so let’s make it drama and let them have sex while Clear is basically dying.

I have one positive thing to say, I liked how clear dropped speaking polite when he was talking to Toue and the alphas, it really showed how he disrespected them.

Noiz

From all routes I feel like Noiz got the “best” romance development. (or rather the only with any at all). Even though the plot is rushed as always and immediately tries to show you what’s Noiz life problems are, it didn’t feel out of nowhere and thrown together like the other route, even though the whole thing takes place in like what 3 days?

Personally, it annoyed me how Aoba tried to act as if he is so much older and wiser than Noiz, despite being more immature. How did he even “fix” Noiz? It didn’t look like his problems were only mental related but I guess Aoba’s power is so great it can fix everything, sugoi sugoi ugh.

What I liked about the route is how Noiz slowly (as slow as it gets in 3 days) grew to like and be worried about Aoba, at least if felt like a little romance development compared to the rest that had none. If ask what my favourite part of the route is, I would say when they had the Rhyme rematch at the end of his route and Noiz lost on purpose because he didn’t want Aoba to get hurt, that was really sweet of him and showed how much he cared— before they went and ruined Noiz by making him and asshole who suddenly wanted to show dominance in Re: connect, but that a story for another day.

KoujakuClownjaku

God I can’t stand this man, what a rude asshole, womanizer big ewww and yikes. I don’t get why he needed to be so fucking rude to every one of them, if not Aoba he treats everyone like shit expect his women, talking in a very rude way even though no one did anything to him or Aoba.

This man even got me to feel bad for Aoba, poor Aoba was constantly ditched and Clownjaku didn’t even bother to explain, I don’t care how much he didn’t want Aoba to be involved, he already was, so why did he had to ignore him and treating him like a child who can’t protect himself. They barely set a foot in platinum jail and he already was running, poor Aoba he deserves better, and HE WAS THE ONE WHO HAD TO APOLOGISE FOR KOUJAKU RUNNING OFF I'M—Don’t even get me started how stupid his plot with his “evil tattoo” is, not excuse enough to almost rape Aoba, he doesn’t get enough hate for that in my opinion. “Tattoo” my ass it was obvious he knew what he was doing. -_-

Their romance development was non-exiting and it basically went to hey we’re friend lets be boyfriend, worst writing, fuck him, he deserves all the hate.

Ren

Plotwise the best route. While in other route the whole “Toue wants to control people” felt more like a clown-show than serious threat, here it actually felt like they really were in some kind of danger. Well, I expect at least something from a true route. The pacing was pretty alright (maybe because we didn’t spend most of the time taking care of the problems of the LI) Aoba’s past reveal was kinda just thrown at you. But overall, from the plot I would say this was the best written as far as it goes because this whole game is full of plot holes that just don’t make any sense or are not explained and you just have to accept it as it is.

Romance-wise though, oh boy the whole Ren is a part of myself thing (and later in his twin brother’s body) was just weird to me, as well as playing the H-scenes. I don’t get why Aoba suddenly had all the hots for Ren but ok I guess? Still better than Koujaku HAHAHAH

I always wanted to say it, I hate the character designs in this game, especially with Aoba himself, from all colours to choose from they gave him the worst blue for his hair, the worst hair style (a mullet really?) and the worst clothes and decided THE CLOTHES NEED TO BE THE SAME UGLY BLUE ugggghhh. Every time he was on screen, I just wanted to stab my eyes out, the shoes THE SOES the ugly yellow socks WHYY (╯°□°)╯( ┻━┻

Everyone else doesn’t look better, Noiz looks like you let a 14-year-old choose his own clothes, Koujaku looks like he clicked the random button in a thrift store and clear looks like he wore random clothes, he found in his grandpa’s closet (which is fair I guess).

The rest of the game looks to flashy for my liking and the colouring is very simple, which I didn’t like but it’s all up to taste.

Music

I don’t really like the music because I don’t like electro music, but I do like the opening song, which is so bad that it makes it good again. The OST was alright, I guess? Nothing to special, my only complain would be the track used for the H-scenes, sounded just weird.

Conclusion

This game is not good. I don’t understand where the hype comes from, it feels rushed, lacks story and romance development and the characters aren’t especially good. The common route felt more like I was playing a 12+ game than a 18+ BL game, everything feel very goofy and the whole “plot” felt more like they tried make up something so there would be some kind of story.

Yes, this is my way to say this game aged badly, I can only imagine new player, who never played a bl game before would maybe enjoy it (that was me 10 years ago), but if you play it after experiencing actually good games you will be disappointed. Going back to this after so long just showed me how much it’s lacking. A big disappointed and by far the worst written nitrochiral game.

Extra:

From what I remember from the fan-patch the translation was actually pretty well except the obvious part of TL-team hating Mink and making him extra rude—he wasn’t. Koujaku was the rudest character, dropping the most insults. There were parts that weren’t correct but from what I read in Japanese it sounded like what I remembered.

Kuu no Mori Review

Hello welcome on my „Playing BL games no one ever heard of” game journey. Kuu no Mori was recommended by a friend who didn’t play the game themself (lol). Apart from the obvious yaoi-core art of the early 2000s the story had me interested. So, I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did because I did enjoy it. There will be spoiler but they will be in an extra part, in case someone actually wants to play it (don’t believe it but just in case).

Story

Basically the main character Yukimura Takashi is on his way to his grandpa’s (great grandpa’s?) funeral, but on his way his car breaks down in a storm in the middle of a forest. Luckily for him he finds a mansion nearby and is invited to stay by the butler until the road, that is blocked by the storm is clear again. Of course, this is not a normal mansion and soon mysterious things begin to happen….

So, in this game basically all characters have a route. There is the butler, the maid, the son of the owner, his cousin, the gardener, the doctor and a mysterious route with a character you won’t see until you pretty much played all routes.

The game has bad, normal, spiral, brute, dream, good and best ends, you need to play at least one end until you can play the best end.

One bad end in ever route is just MC returning home, which is something I don’t count as a “bad” end but ok. The brute ends are usually the “true” bad ends of the game. Spiral ends always end with MC dying and him returning to the part where he just arrived at the mansion.

Also, the game can have MC as bottom or top depending on the route. Or both.

Characters

Yukimura Takashi

(Poor bitch, always ends in the bdsm basement) 

The main character was actually alright, he wasn’t stupid and could think for himself, he also didn’t mind falling for a guy and for a 2004 stone age bl game that alone is impressive. He could also be an asshole, especially when he was top, but usually he was kind. My only complaint would be that he was falling way too fast for the LI. The LI would lick his finger and this idiot would dream 3 days about it.

Sakuraba Hayato

(Yes I had to use that face) 

The cousin I played first because he has Miki Shinichiro’s va cough cough. I don’t usually like the playboy characters, but he was alright, I guess? He did sexual harassed the MC but nothing too bad. Of course, he had the “tragic backstory” what else did I expect? But overall, an ok route.

*Spoiler part*

So, the MC mentioned often how he looks sad when he talk about love and we later learn that the woman he loved drowned in a pond near the mansion when they wanted to run away and now she is basically haunting him and doesn’t want him to leave her (ghost?). In all best ends and some other ends after the LI and MC get together, the mansion suddenly catches fire, so they have to flew. In one of his bad ends his ghost girlfriend blocks him from leaving lmao ok. In the best end they successfully escape with the dead girlfriend’s blessing and live together, also the mansion basically vanishes, and they later find out that no one knew the mansion or the people who lived there actually existed.

Nanase Mao

(Thats actually a pretty CG) 

The maid, yes this is a guy, and he is not even hiding it lol. He basically sleeps with everyone in the mansion and loves cute dresses. His route was also ok, not my type of character because no matter how much I know he is a man my brain thinks instantly “woman” when I see him. MC was kinda a dickhead in his route, but he apologized so it’s alright. He had the “prettiest” CGs in the game.

The reason he always wears cute dresses is because his mother would only pay attention to him when he wore them because yes, she wanted a girl, so he got used to wearing them. And the reason why he sleeps around is because he likes it when people love his body the way it is and not because he wears cute dresses. So actually, I liked his good end way more than the best end, because in the good end he cuts his hair and starts wearing man clothes and only sometimes wears his dresses. Rather than just liking cute dresses I felt like he was wearing them in a way to deal with not being accepted by his mother, so him starting to reject this felt more like he started to finally get over this. In the best end he lives with MC as basically a girl and works at a cosplay café.

Takahama Kengo

Oh god how do I even start….This man is trash, his only goal is to sexual harass the MC and he uses all chances he gets. He even tried it in other routes. Oh, also did I mentioned I don’t like doctor characters? Because being a doctor is their only personality and their reason for becoming a doc is always “I lost someone important to me bla bla” zzzz.

Dear reader it’s time to scarify another victim to the trash pile. Hooray hooray!

Doc became doc for sick brother, brother dead, he sad now needs to sexual harass MC. MC srupid idiot can’t escape his “great” finger work bla bla, they escape bla bla doc is some beast in bed pfffff whatever get this man away from me.

Onoda Seiichirou

(Look at the small hamster on his shoulder  (∗´ ᨔ `∗) )

The gardener and my personal favourite. He only shows up to introduce himself in other routes and you won’t see him until you play his route. He looks intimidating but he is such a sweetheart. Him and MC spend the whole route talking about flowers, he is like a Disney princess but instead of animals the plants love him. He also has a cute hamster that lives in the forest and comes to sit on his shoulder sometimes?? How cute is that??Also him being bottom in the good end had me very surprised.

*Spoiler Part*

In his good end MC stays together with him in the mansion and they live happy after buuuut, in his best end after he and MC escape the burning mansion and pass through the forest it turns out that he is actually a part of a tree that grows in the greenhouse, that took the form of a human and because he is connected to the mansion he can’t existed outside it. So, he starts to turn back into a tree but not before telling the MC, that he loves and is glad to have met him. After the tree turns into sand and MC fully devastated brings the sand back home and plants it, from which a red rose grows that in flower language means “I love you”. Honestly? What a great end, I love different ending than the usual “they lived happy ever after” kind of endings, the story was really cute, and they had great chemistry and yes, I’m a little sad over the end but I think letting it end this way made it more special.

Kishiwada Shounosuke

(His head looks like an avocado) 

The butler of the mansion. From the very beginning this man was scary and always felt like he hidden side to him, and as expected I didn’t enjoy his route, his polite way of talking just freaks me out and his good and best end were not eh how should I say it “enjoyable”. The only good part about his route is that you will find out more about the mansion. To play his best end you have to play the best end of the former four characters.

*Spoiler part*

There is no “good end” in his route, he is evil and wants to get rid of the MC because he is too close to the mansion owner’s son. Good end and best end have no difference they both end with MC being locked up in the bdsm basement. The normal end is maybe would I consider a “good” end where MC stays with him (without ending in the bdsm basement) but it’s hinted that he plans on killing him later on, also he can be bottom in the normal end. The more important part is that in his route we find out that the former owner who lived in the Meiji period (1868-1912) killer his adoptive son, who he had a sexual relationship with and his son’s lover who he tried to run away with because the pedo father kept his son locked up in the mansion, and then put a curse on the mansion. Alrighty then.

Ayasegawa Yuuri

(My friend said his eyes make him look like a bug HAHAAHAHA)

The son of the mansion owner and what I consider the “true route” of the game. He is very cold to the MC in the beginning and always tells him to leave. His good end is unlocked from the beginning, but I recommend doing the other characters first. Not my kind of character but he had all the keys to the mystery of the mansion, so it was still interesting to play, and he had the most ends, which took forever to complete.

*Spoiler Part*

Let’s get straight to the point, Yuri’s father, the mansion’s owner moved with his wife in the mansion after it was abandoned for a few year. There his wife had Yuuri but died a while later after giving birth to him and his father was so in grieve that he promised to always protect Yuuri and never let him leave the masion.

From what I understand the curse of the mansion made him go crazy and one day when he Yuuri tried to run away he killed him and after realising what he had done he set fire to the mansion that killed everyone in it. But probably through that curse the mansion and the forest surrounding it were thrown into a time loop that always end with Yuuri dying and the mansion being burning down. (This is where the name of the game, “Kuu no Mori” meaning “empty forest” comes from)

Yuuri is the only one who has the memory of the time loops, his father on the other hand, had being unconscious since the first time-loop, so even without his father doings Yuuri just randomly dies at some point and the mansion burns down.

This is where the MC comes into the story. At some point Yuuri starts having dreams about MC and his life. Which ended with MC being able to enter the time loop. After he tells the MC about it, they try to escape the mansion, that is burning yet again. (MC disturbing the time loop so now it can burn without Yuuri having to die first). Of course, they are stopped by the evil butler (what a surprise) who tries to get Yuuri back.

At some point it was also revealed that MC and Yuuri each had an amulet that belongs to Yuri’s father and MC’s great grandfather who were friends and had it made so they always could always remember each other when they were apart. (Just normal bros having friendship amulets, no homo) These amulets got close to each other during the fight with the butler the energy kinda released the spirit of MC’s great grandpa (who’s funeral MC was heading to) who tells the butler to stop, and then we learn that the soul of the butler and the father got mixed at some point and he start doing all this shit because of his obsession with Yuuri. So, after MC great grandfather menages to convince him to let Yuuri go they can finally escape (yay).

And here is a different between the good end and the best end. In the good end Yuri can’t exist in the world outside the time loop because he died long ago, but in the best end he can for some reason and there was no explanation why he could suddenly, but consider how the other characters could also leave the time-loop without dying it’s fine I guess? So anyways they escape, the time loop is finally broken, and the souls of the other characters are finally released and MC and Yuuri live happy ever after.

…The end right ? Nope

(Ah yes great I love furry ) 

Welcome to the locked route of the game and yes you see correctly, that’s a wolf…. This whole route felt like the developer finished the game, celebrated by having a weed party, got too high and wrote an extra route. But don’t worry we suddenly didn’t turn from boys love to bestiality love, he also has a more “human” version in the appearance of an gorilla HAHAHAHAHA (kill me).

Dio, whose full name is Diosdor*ze¥*fi&ctle$#& (no this is not a joke) is some kind of…. I have no idea honestly, God? Spirit? Yokai? Whatever he is stuck in the time-loop, and nothing is really explained because he doesn’t really speak like a normal human. MC becomes besties with him talks with him for like 2 day plays rock-scissors-stone with him and gets his ass ripped and it ends with Dio finally being free and taking him up the sky or some shit to show him where he came from??? ……..I have no words, the hell?

Anyways let’s pretend that route never happened.

Art and Musik

Lmao yes beautiful yaoi faces they had, I had a good laugh from it, some CGs where not too bad if they didn’t show their giant chins. But overall, it wasn’t too bad in my eyes, I can ignore the artwork if the story is enjoyable. Every character had its own background music, so instead of different music for different scenes the music of the character you were talking with was playing.

Conclusion

Would I recommend the game? Yes, sure why not, I had fun. With such old games I can’t go around judging too hard, why should I complain about something so old, it’s just how games where back them and honestly compared to some newer trash I played *coughdystopianooucough* I rather take this game. Of course the romance development maybe felt a little fast but the route where rather short, and honestly I didn’t care about the romance in the game I just wanted to know what was wrong with the mansion. Overall the whole game didn’t felt rushed at all. There was less rape (outside the bad ends) than expected (only 1 scene I think?) and the characters were fun and MC not stupid (god bless). Also I skipped all H-scenes HAHAHAHA. So yeah I had fun and I will look into some older game now more often.
