Professional Life: This graphic is really great because it really breaks down and simplifies sustainability in nutrition. It shows people not only how to eat sustainably but also how to eat well for your body and health.
Some of the things that I plan on focusing from the graphic is eating locally and avoiding unnecessary packaging. I feel like I can accomplish both of these things in my life and in my career by purchasing my produce from farmers markets that don't use unnecessary packaging.

Professional Life: I love this article because it breaks down what nutrients the average person needs and what type of sustainable foods they can eat to consume the right amount.
This was helpful for me because I am a vegetarian and can sometimes struggle to get certain nutrients, but also because I plan on having a career in nutrition. This article shows me that I can reconvened certain foods to people lacking different nutrients while still being sustainable.

Professional Life: I really enjoyed reading this article because it urges people to realize that sustainability, in nutrition especially, is not just a trend going around, but something that needs to be taken seriously.
This article talks about how many people are malnourished or have an improper diet and how sustainable eating and nutrition can help solve this.

Professional Life: I found this image when I searched sustainability in nutrition. Since my major is nutrition, I find it even more important to go beyond the surface and dive deeper into the benefits of sustainability.
What some people don't realize is that sustainable nutrition is so good for you and your health. Sustainable foods are good for the environment and if bought from a local food source, they are also good for the economy.

Professional Life: This image shows us the current trend in the medical field to switch to recyclable or recycled products. It is difficult to be sustainably conscience in the medical field because of the fear of cross contamination.
As someone wanting a career in the medical field, this is exciting for me because I would like to be as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible.

Personal Life: I loved this idea from moonbeamsandmayhemsbazaar. Sustainability is all about maintaining ecological balance and I think this post embodies this idea perfectly.
Using something to create planters, like old jeans, gives the item a second purpose. Instead of the jeans going to the landfill, they can be used as a planter. I think that this idea is a win-win for sustainability.

Personal Life: Since the Covid-19 outbreak, I have been trying to find light in this terrible situation. This post from frank-murphy is definitely a positive that has come from this outbreak.
China and Italy have had a history of air pollution that was rapidly worsening. Because of the quarantines in these two countries, the two leading causes of pollution, car exhaust and factories, have decreased immensely.

In Italy and China, the air pollution has dropped by 80% since lockdown.

Personal Life: I was really interested in this post by esme-lovette. People today (including myself) use apps and search engines every day of their life. The app called ECOSIA plants a tree for every 45 searches they receive.
Studies have shown that roughly 42,000,000 trees are cut down daily worldwide. This is a number that honestly scares me and urges me to take action. Searching and using this app is something I could do multiple times a day in my free time and would make a huge impact. The site has planted over 60,000,000 trees since it was developed!
Tumblr media
This is Ecosia. Ecosia is a free app/search engine that plants a tree for every 45 searches. Look,
Tumblr media
Ecosia keeps track! I’ve used it for weeks; it works as a good search engine. I still use DuckDuck Go and Safari for some searches, but this is a no effort way to contribute a little when unable to donate time or funds. Use Ecosia!

Personal Life: I really enjoyed this graphic by plantsandrecyclingandstuff because it gives us so many ideas of ways we can be sustainable everyday. One thing that I am going to try to do more from this list is use refillable household products.
There is a long list of household items that get thrown away after use. Some that I use most are cleaners, shampoo and conditioner bottles, and food containers. By refilling these items or finding a way to use them throughout the house, I will be creating much less waste and will be potentially saving money!

Personal Life: Minimalist-Mom posted this graphic that I found to be quite funny, but it also also urged me to understand the correlation between climate change and sustainability. I have noticed a recent refusal of some government officials to acknowledge the obvious decline in the health of our environment.
Different forms of sustainability can be beneficial to help eliminate climate change. One example of how sustainability can positively effect climate change is the use of plastics. Heat causes plastics to release greenhouse gases which contain methane and ethylene that ultimately increase the rate of climate change.

Personal Life: Eco-Flipping is something I have been passionate about ever since my family flipped a house in a lower income area. The process of flipping houses takes the usable parts of an old or rundown house and is combined with new and eco-friendly additions making it environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Flipping one house in a bad neighborhood can bring light to the entire area! A lot of younger people are wanting eco-friendly homes at affordable prices, so once a neighborhood starts flipping houses, it won't stop until they are all refurbished environmentally friendly homes.

Personal Life: Joji-babe showed a picture of some of the reusable cup options that Starbucks gives you. Starbucks in one of those companies that I can personally say I have invested a lot in, but I am proud to do so because of they are constantly striving to reduce their personal waste.
Starbucks gives their customers the option to purchase and reuse cups like the one in the picture above to ensure that they are not constantly adding paper and plastic cups to the landfills. They also offer discounts to the patrons that use them! Starbucks has also recently reduce the use of plastic straws in their stores. Now, the lids on all of the reusable and non-reusable cups have holes for the costumer to use instead.

Personal Life: While Veganhippiechick’s diagram might be a little vague, it still demonstrates some of the benefits of eating a plant based diet. I have been a vegetarian for my entire life and a vegan for the later part of my life and I truly see the impact that it makes for my health and the positive impact it makes for the planet.
Studies have shown that vegan and vegetarian diets have created 49.6% fewer greenhouse gas emissions and uses 26.9% less energy for food production when compared to diets that include meat.

Personal Life: Flowers-n-Rain made great points on so many products that 20-somethings like me use almost every day but never think about the environmental impact they cause.
The one that I would like to focus on is makeup wipes. I use at least one makeup wipe a day. If I started wearing makeup when I was 16 then that means I have used over 1,000 makeup wipes in my lifetime!
I have switched to makeup erasers that can do the same work as 3,600 makeup wipes! So instead of throwing away 3,600 wipes in the next six years, I will only throw away one!
6 things i stopped buying: minimalism journey (+ reduce waste)
1. Makeup Remover Wipes: instead, use a washcloth (preferably black) and apply coconut oil or almond oil to the cloth (or face), then use the cloth to wipe your entire makeup off until satisfied. *(continue with face wash routine or face mask)
benefits: reusable // machine washable // save money // gentle on the skin // effectively removes makeup
2. Plastic Toothbrushes:  instead, buy a pack of bamboo toothbrushes on amazon or a general store. use these brushes as you would any other brush and thoroughly brush to improve oral health.
benefits: organic // reusable // decomposable // cleanses teeth effectively // eco-friendly // BPA free bristles
3. Multi-Step Facial Cleansers & Name Brand Body Washes: instead, use African Black soap for both your body and face with your preferred method of washing (electronic brush, hands, or wash cloth). for more simple face washes, consider using vegan and/or organic facial washes that work for your skin type.
benefits: multipurpose // improves overall skin health // all skin types (especially acne prone or oily) // single-step process // organic // save money
4. Plastic Water Bottles: instead, use a simple stainless steel bottle that you can refill throughout the day and keep up with.
benefits: reusable // washable // aesthetic // easy to monitor and handle // eco-friendly
5. Face Moisturizers: instead, use carrier oils (such as coconut oil, argan oil, almond oil, castor oil) that work with your skin type/skin needs *(you can try combining them with essential oils such as tea tree oil, lavender oil, etc.)
benefits: organic // improves skin health // no harsh chemicals // save money // longer lasting // multipurpose
6. Animal Cruelty Makeup: instead, buy makeup products that you truly need (wear daily) from companies that are Animal-Cruelty FREE and/or vegan. do your research and spend your money wisely. some may seem expensive, but consider how much some high-end brands benefit from not being animal-cruelty free *(invest in vegan and/or organic products too).
benefits: eco-friendly // animal-cruelty free // healthier for skin // long-term benefits // *vegan and/or organic

Personal Life: Flowers-n-Rain discussed the importance of purchasing natural and ethical clothing, but also stated the issues that can coexist. Since most of these environmentally friendly companies pay workers fairly and ethically, it tends to make prices of the individual product increase.
The author of this article gave great tips on how to purchase trendy clothing while still minimizing your carbon footprint. My favorite tip and one that I do quite often is shopping second-hand. Since it can take different types of clothing anywhere from 9 months to 200 years to decompose, it is nice to be able to give clothing a second life!
affordable, ethical fashion (+tips): minimalism journey
shopping sustainably and ethically can come off as an expensive alternative. Though these brands tend to cost more than most commercial brands, having a mindful wardrobe doesn’t have to break the bank.
why is it expensive?
sustainable materials cost more: natural materials, generally grown on farms in a certified organic way, farmed in a way that pays workers fairly and ethically
tips to build a conscious wardrobe:
shop second-hand (thrift shopping): not only is it affordable and sustainable, but it can be fun creating your own style and doing more with less // you’ re preventing items from ending up in landfills // look into local  and online “swapping/trading events” // shop at stores that sell ethical brands, but second-hand // shop less at malls
have a minimalist or capsule wardrobe: not spending so much on every new “trendy”, fast-fashion pieces of clothing, allows you to save up and afford the more expensive brands and products that are sustainable //  with a small clothing budget, you’re allowed to be more mindful as to what you add to your wardrobe (even if it’s one piece) // new shopping habits: quality or quantity // due to the concept of “year-round-clothing” with minimalism, you’ll be able to buy pieces that actually last
find a balance between conscious brands and second-hand clothing that works with your budget: this depends on your situation (age and location), budget/finances, needs, and lifestyle // the impact your wardrobe has, also is affected by how you care for your clothes // don’t always wash your clothes in hot water and dry in hot dryers, in order to not waste energy and allow your clothes to last longer/not replace items continuously
research your brands: check their websites, google about them (reputation), and read their “about us”/”what they stand for”/ “their mission” // allows you to make a more mindful investment in your clothing // look for certifications (e.g. GOTS or FairTrade) // research by country, brand or production criteria (e.g. Eco Fashion World) // read about blogs and websites about sustainable fashion
