On April 16th 2025 the US federal government has proposed to change the interpretation of the endangered species act so that it no longer protects habitat.

This is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.

Wildlife need their habitat. If the ESA redefines harm so that habitat is no longer protected, the implications for wildlife would be catastrophic.

My chickens would die horribly in less than a week if they were free. The local hawks are always casing the joint, seeing if there's an easy meal. Instead they are allowed to live healthy safe lives without fear of predators, parasites or disease because I handle that for them. All they worry about is their pecking order, and getting treats. I eat their eggs, and several people near me benefit from eggs that are much cheaper than the grocery store but raised in humane conditions. I even let some of the hens raise chicks in the safest most stress free conditions possible.

As a "free bird" in the wild, Salem would be dead, she can't fly and lacks many self preservation instincts. Even if she didn't have these issues, the likelihood of a single hen successfully hatching & raising 22 chicks is basically none. Hens have to protect their brood from wild animals AND their own flock, adult chickens will happily kill and eat chicks. Instead, she's a farm animal who gets food, water & a safe dry space to raise as many chicks as she wanted.

I just think that 'animals are living intelligent creatures that have feelings and deserve to be respected' and 'when done properly farming is beneficial to both people and animals and there's nothing wrong with raising and killing animals for food, clothing, and other products' are concepts that very much can and should coexist

hey guys so apparently this is a thing a lot of people don't realise but like. if you have had writer's block/ art block for like. six months. a year. two years. that's maybe not a block. that's maybe depression. and you should maybe look into treating the source of the problem instead of just beating yourself up for not being able to write/draw. be kind to yourself and know that your struggle to create isn't based in laziness or a lack of skill or talent.

A lot of people recently seem to have hurt their wrists. Or maybe I'm just hearing about it more.

When they ask for stretches, I basically tell them this.

Keep in mind, that this may work for grade 1 sprains, but more serious injuries (like ligament tears) will almost certainly require some form of medical attention.

When people ask how I prevent hawks/raccoons/coyotes/ect eating my tiny tiny chickens. I just don't let them near the chickens! It's exactly like you say, I as a flock owner am responsible for protecting my flock, if an animal comes and kills them that's a failing on my part, not the predator grabbing an easy meal. No free ranging, birds live in large secure coops, runs secured with hardware cloth & weld wire (it's layered!) to hold up to anything from a snake to a large dog, and then all sitting inside a nice electric fence with a high enough charge to make even bears think twice. It can be done, and it's SO SO much easier than replacing animals every few months or years like I see other people doing. Avian flu cropped up, and I didn't have to worry about biosecurity even, because I was already practicing that, it's again part of my responsibility as the owner!

Not a single care, safe and secure in a nice large clean pen (it's sized for 50 birds and has just over 30! We like space for animals to exist here!). I've killed a grand total of *checks records* zero predators or stray dogs/cats. I've lost a total of 1 bird in these coops due to a latch failure letting them out and a hawk taking advantage, latch was replaced entirely never a problem since. It can be done, and it's so much less stressful, I know at all times these birds are safe.
