“... Robin,” Lucina spoke, her tone exasperated and long. Looking at the other with dimmed eyes, the warrior spoke. “Please remember that this is a foreign, new concept to me. As much as I wish to have a natural born talent for it, my aptitudes simply were not gifted for this from birth. I must place effort, time, and studious measures into honing my skills if I am to ever grasp this.”

Gazing into the basket with eyes of wonder, Lucina couldn’t help but instinctively place a hand inside. Her sturdy, chiseled fingers ran across the exotic, fresh fruit and warranted a pleasant sigh from between her lips. She had forgotten what fresh and proper food had tasted like-- f e l t like to one’s skin. As someone who was forced to shovel through the grimes and shredding of war, just feeling this fruit reminded her that peace still existed in some worlds.
Looking back to the Yoshi with a small smile, the wise, capable princess spoke. “You are a very kind, considerate creature. I had forgotten what the simple feeling of fruit had felt like, and already I feel my heart fluttering in joy. It’s weird to be able to remember such a luxury and not find myself backed into a corner, but I adore this feeling. So in every sense of the meaning, you have my eternal gratitude.”

“Yes, there’s nothing wrong with sitting back and taking a break every once in awhile.” Considering Yoshies were naturally docile, laid back creatures, it’s expected he’d say something like this. At least compared to Lucina, Yoshi wasn’t raised on the sheer aspects of war; his mind remained completely naive to the subject.
He scooted over a basket fulled to the brim with fruit, fresh off Yoshi’s Island itself. “Here! Maybe these will help put your mind at ease. Fruit always makes Yoshi happy!”
Alas, much was obvious by now.

Lucina sympathized with the blonde alien in more ways than he could believe. She knew that, like her, he was forced into this role without so much as a thought for what they wanted. Both of them had to provide the backbone of their respective parties, and never could they rest. Day in and day out they would tirelessly strain themselves to the best of their capabilities, and it was an existence Lucina did not find glorifying. The expectations of others were more terrifying than anything Grima could muster, and the thought of failure sent chills down her spine. The role as ‘hero’ was nothing more than curse in her opinion, and the only comfort she gained from it was that she was not alone.
“We are indeed two sides of the same coin,” the princess spoke, her voice packing an impact more powerful than any weapon. Keeping herself both tall and dignified, the graceful swordfighter gave a sympathetic sigh as she leaked. “The role as hero is nothing more than a curse, I believe. The expectations of one’s peers is more earth-shattering than any enemy one could be tasked to defeat. Both of us know the pains of this, I’m sure. We are the ones that have to show no weakness when everyone else does, and we have to be the ones to guide our people to a future worth living. It is for this reason, alongside your kindness, that you have gained my respect. I myself have trouble keeping myself calm and collected when things turn bleak, and it gives me both comfort and relief to know that I am not alone with this feeling. That others know the pain in my chest, and that their hope will never die-- not as long as they have something worth protecting with every pint of blood in their body.”

It was a bit intimidating to see such a sudden change in the behavior of the blue haired princess. For a moment, Shulk was certain that he had accidentally upset her by asking the question, but soon it became clear that the change in mood wasn’t because he had said something wrong, but only because she was so fervent in her beliefs about what she had said. He had been a moment away from apologizing, especially considering that Lucina’s hand had found its way to her sword, making the blond think he was about to get sliced in half. But no such action came, which made him sigh inwardly with relief.
“I-I wasn’t really aware of what kind of world you came from…” He started, backpedaling while looking off to the side. “It sounds like you have quite a lot on your plate, carrying the banner of hope like that as well as working to change the fate of your world…” There was a long pause before he continued. “I guess we’re quite alike in that way. After all, I’ve got a similar role back home on Bionis - as the only one capable of properly wielding the Monado, I’ve been thrust into the role of hero of the Homs.” Shulk’s right hand instinctively reached back and wrapped itself around the hilt of the sleek, red metal sword sitting there, but he didn’t draw the weapon. “The Monado gives me visions of incoming disaster some time in the future, and it’s up to me to figure out how to change the future so that disaster doesn’t happen… It’s a heavy burden to be holding onto, but I’m the only one who can do it - I’m the only one who can save Bionis from the Mechon.”

Looking up to notice the vast and orange sky, Lucina’s lips opened with a sigh. The wind was gentle yet firm, and the sun was ready to hide away for the night. It reminded her of home in a way-- or at least the place she was forced to calm home in the timeline. When it was sunset there then that meant trouble, because that was when the Risen were the most merciless. They would rip, tear, and gash any flesh with that piercing look in their eye, never once flinching when the sounds of the l ving claimed the night.
But here... it was different. She was able to close her eyes for a few hours when it became night, and not once did she feel unsafe. She had both Chrom and Robin around, and while she still held her doubts, she would trust Robin with her life if Chrom did.
“I very well see what you mean,” spoke the female, her voice’s usual impact tone replaced with a more somber one. “Yet there is still much to be done. I cannot help but feel this pain in my breast-- one that tells me that there is still something that I have neglected. Be it my own paranoia or if I am still adjusting to this world, I feel this sensation in which I never have felt before.”
“… Right.”

The other’s determination causes the corners of her lips to quirk just slightly into a smirk, feeling much more assured at the knowledge of Lucina’s confidence. Robin’s glad that their relationship’s patched over any misunderstandings, that the princess does trust her (though not without the tactician nearly losing her life, were it not for Chrom—), and she lets out a sigh. “Right. Thank you, Lucina. It’s an honor to have your trust— Ah, but enough of that depressing talk for the day.” A more genuine smile as the female gazed up at the orange sky, commenting, “It’s getting late.”

“Very well. I shall place my trust in you for as long as you are both just and true. But-- a musician, you say? That warms my heart to hear. From where I come and the conditions I was forced to endure, not once have my ears been graced with the sound of a melody... If you are free, then I would very well like to place any barriers between us away by listening to your music whenever we both have the time for such a pleasure.”
EIGHT HAVE ENTERED

Well, have no fear. I’m not foolish enough to lead an attack on a land I was sent to make an alliance with, especially not by myself.
I am Armand. I’m a knight but I haven’t been for very long. I’m… a musician at heart.

While many had found Henry’s behavior both disgusting and vile, Lucina had a hard time ever hating it. He was different-- psychotic in a way-- but it was that feature that made her respect him. He wasn’t held back by anyone’s expectations except his own, and the carefree smile he always had instilled nothing but hope and inspiration in the exalted princess’s heart. There was nothing that could take Henry’s good mood away, and while she was cautious around him, he’d always have her shoulder to lean on if needed.
So, even with that chiseled face of seriousness and refinement, the mighty princess spoke formally. “I believe you called for me about an hour ago. Please forgive my tardiness for our conversation. Many people depended on me today, but I can very well say that I trust you will make proper use of my attention for now.”
“Or at least attempt to,” Lucina added, knowing well of Henry’s sporadic nature. “That would be an honor in every sense of the privilege.”

His words had already gained not only her attention, but a fierce, blazing stare from the warrior. He didn’t need to elaborate any further about the plight, because already she was ready. With a firm, just hand she had unsheathed Falchion from its scabbard, holding it up with both hands in a dignified stance. Earlier that day she remembered seeing a group of reptilian creatures dance with greedy grins, but she hadn’t pursued them out of suspicion.
But now? Now she wished she had felled them by the very blade that would fall Grima, the Felldragon.
“You need not elaborate any further,” Lucina spoke in refinement and strength, staring in the ape’s eyes with her own sharp pupils. “I recall where a group of reptilians were headed off to, and each of them held a grin so greedy that even the Gods themselves were suspicious. It is my fault for not stopping and questioning their motives from the beginning, so allow me to fully apologize for making your matters worse. I promise with both my exalted blood and honor that you have both Falchion and I at your side, and we shall now defeat them and restore peace back to where it once was!”

Any hints of joy or happiness had now been stripped from her face, replaced only by a determined, solemn frown. In her eyes was a fire that could melt any ice, and a free palm had now took a deep hold on the crimson hilt of falchion. Their question had sparked her warrior’s heart so hard she couldn’t help but sigh, collecting her thoughts and pooling them out in both might and refinement.
“You are indeed correct,” Lucina confirmed, staring into the blonde’s eyes without so much as flinching. Giving him a moment to let her words sink in, she spoke; determined and strong. “I come from a world in which many things have been tossed into nothing but discord and chaos. My people live in an eternal cloak of fear and sadness; my father slain by the very beast that has turned my world into a land of both ruin and dread. I am the beacon of hope for that kingdom of Ylisse, and it is my sworn duty to wield the very holy blade known as Falchion that my father used before me. My mission is to rewrite fate into a glistening world for all my people to thrive in-- to give them a chance to taste the peace I was never allowed to. I represent not only Ylisse, but the very truth that the future is not written and that we can all challenge our fates. As such, I refuse to fall until the very breath inside me has been slain, for I hold onto the one thing that can fall this beast and restore peace to my world.
And that treasure? It is known as hope-- the very thing that boosts the morale of my people to give them the will, courage, and motivation to make it through to the next day and craft with me a future of peace and harmony that shall never die,”

Shulk was ever the oblivious idiot when it came to realizing just what people thought about him, never truly getting the picture until they said so straight to his face. So the blue haired princess’ reveal that she already held so much admiration for him was a bit of a pleasant surprise to say the very least. Enough for him to smile a bit more and feel a little better about having pulled the girl aside in the first place.
“Oh, well… Thank you, first and foremost.” He said, reflexively scratching the back of his head with one hand as a gesture of modesty. “The reason I asked for a moment of your time, however, was because of something I heard you say at seemingly random not too long ago, prior to a battle.” The blond paused for a moment, trying to recall exactly what she had said verbatim. “You had mentioned something about ‘not allowing the future to repeat itself’, almost as if you were dead set on changing it.” Hopefully he had gotten that correct.

Taking the pan of the pastry with graceful hands of war, Lucina couldn’t help but usher a blissful sigh. The smell of the sweetened, luscious pie reminded her of her days before she was forced to take up the blade. Its steaming, warm feel was like that of heaven, and something about it was foreign, yet familiar all at the same time. She would have happily found a place to sit and enjoy the dessert had Lobo not spoken up, but she didn’t mind.
For in truth, something about them was pleasant, even despite their odd appearance.
“Very well, Lobo. You may call me Lucina, the future heir to the throne of the kingdom known as Ylisse. I am a warrior that comes from far away in order to represent not only my father, but also the traditions and honor of my people. It brings me great pleasure and honor to know that I may fight in your town-- to do everything that I can to achieve victory in a fair, swift manner. We may have now only met, but I can sense not only your kindness, but a bond between us that will remain unbroken far after the recent tournament linking together many worlds has ended.”

✴-❝Sure thing, ah-rooooo! One key-lime pie, coming right up!❞
The wolf made a quick purchase to receive the pie. After the transaction was finished, the canine handed off the pastry to the other. Despite them being a complete stranger, Lobo didn’t mind breaking out a few bells for them. He slowly returned his wallet back to a pocket, as his grin only fattened.
✴-❝By the way, I’m Lobo! Mind if I ask what your’s is?❞

“I very well know that feeling. I myself have felt alienated from the other opponents, but there’s something in you that I respect with every bit of my being.”
Placing her shaken hand back on the crimson hilt of Falchion, Lucina couldn’t help but release a happy sigh. The tense atmosphere of Smash just felt a bit less smothering-- almost pleasant, really. She was standing before a respectable, graceful role model that had it all. They were tall and beautiful, and while they were motherly, they still had a fire that could not be doused. It was something Lucina found so mystical that, with a small smile, she allowed her tone to take a heap of warmness.
“The way you battle is not only graceful, but it has a certain power that I myself am hoping to achieve one day. It honors me greatly that the two of us can kindle a friendship, and I swear on my honor as a member of the exalted lineage of Ylisse that I shall cherish our friendship for years to come. No matter where we are, our bond shall remain strong, even if we are fated to meet in battle.”
The princess paused in coddling her partner in battle, the star child floating contently into their mother’s arms as she shifted to face Lucina. At the prompt for a handshake, Rosalina moved the Luma to her hip and gave her greeter a polite shake. She couldn’t say she knew much about this particular opponent of hers, and she was happy to be informatively introduced.

“I am. And it’s a pleasure to meet you, Luncina. Properly, anyway. —Aside from Mario and his friends, I actually have yet to get to know anyone here. Though I look forward to the eventual meet-and-greets.”
She chuckled softly at that, the golden Luma cooing as if to echo it.

Lucina couldn’t help but shake her head firmly at the other’s question. While they believed they were eating her time up like a parasite did a host’s blood, Lucina truly believed otherwise. Shulk was someone like her-- someone who has the potential to change whatever fate and future they have for the better. He conducted himself in a way that made them two sides of the same coin, so with a face of formality she mused.
“Do not concern yourself with borrowing my time. Truth be told, I enjoy talking to you because of the very potential and power you hold. You’ve won my respect already, so now is the time for you to ask whatever it is that is on your mind. You have both my time and ears, so never be afraid to make proper use of them.”
#monadohero#[semi;]#[closed;]#[v; smash;]#Hey there!#I hope this works!#I always saw Lucina as really taking a liking to Shulk considering Xenoblade and Awakening share similar themes.#And because he shares the same ideals that the future can be changed and that it's up to the people to decide it.#Not fate or destiny.
