he had entertained this notion before (impossible, not scientifically plausible, even the lazarus effect took ten minutes at most after any resuscitation attempt), but doesn’t mean it sounds any less ridiculous.

still, when the impossible happens, what else is there to do other than to believe it? as a man of science (and god), he had to make sure.

“good afternoon,” he walks towards the librarian area. “do you happen to have books about…” trails off, swallows. you’re a man of science, it’s your job to explore each and every possibility. “the undead?”

the hardest part of co-existing with your formerly deceased husband, ian finds, turns out to be sharing a bed.

if it was a few months ago, ian would’ve playfully told simeon to scoot over before pressing his own chest against his back, latching onto the older’s body heat and inhaling the woody scent of his soap like its a lifeline.

now? he’s not even sure it’s still the same man he used to know. he’s not even sure that he’s real.

in the end ian opts on getting on his side of the bed without a word, slipping inside the duvet and turning his back against the person sitting on his bed.

SUMMARY.

his name is ian yoon-abrams. thirty-six years of age. works as a doctor at a home clinic if needed. had only just moved back in to marrow a few months ago with his spouse in tow, yet weirdly enough doesn’t really say why he left his job as a neurosurgeon in seattle. the locals used to know him as the quiet child whose nose constantly tucked in a book, if not singing praises with his family at the church—and it hasn’t changed much, except for the fact that he seems to be more comfortable in his own skin now, more easygoing and solicitous… even after his husband’s death, though he had become rather reclusive and unavailable. but that’s just what grief does to you, right?

BACKSTORY.

born in marrow to a devout catholic family. left for college after he received a scholarship to seattle

transitioned during his time away from home—eager to leave and never look back, much to his parents’ disapproval. not that he ever told them (they mostly communicate through letters and text messages)

met his future husband in the ER during his residency. held off marriage until his parents’ passing

became a neurosurgeon, renowned in his hospital for his brilliance and precision

this places him under immense pressure from his surroundings—both to maintain his reputation and the hospital’s—which eventually caused a miscalculation that killed his patient

the patient’s family decided to sue him for malpractice. ian then was suspended from the hospital and lost his medical reputation. not knowing where else to go, he chose to go home to marrow

although he no longer has the confidence to perform surgeries, ian opted on opening a home clinic, specifically in his late parents’ house

HEADCANONS.

used to struggle with his religious side for quite a while due to his identity, but eventually came to peace with it as he believes god had created him as he is now and will accept him no matter what

thinks his husband’s death is a punishment from god. at some point began seeing hallucinations of him around the house. spends his time at the church to escape it

has a certain weakness towards cats

knows he’s not the best in bedside manners, so he opts by giving his patients candy after their appointments

childhood friend(s). knew him before seattle. could be neighbors, classmates, or friend from the church. quite possibly also his closest friend there who became his support after his husband’s passing

(not-so) regular patient. visits his home clinic a lot for some reason, medical or not. he finds your presence comforting and looks forward to it

church buddy. attends the church as often as ian does. the only person he trusts about his hallucinations. most likely an entourage just for the fun of it
