Reese?) or Shaw has to deal with TM and Root having the same voice.

Similar to above, Tomas Koroa is a thief that works with Shaw for an episode. Shaw is clearly tempted by him and his lifestyle; what if she leaves for a time to do a heist? This kind of sidesteps her being hunted/captured by Samaritan, so maybe that's too big of an AU for this exchange. (Still, it'd be interesting!) Other than that, maybe they take a few minutes to themselves during the episode. Shaw and Root are dancing around each other at this point, so maybe that's a consideration for Shaw.

I love the evolution of their relationship, and how it grows from this really dark, twisted thing to a very sweet and fond partnership. Fic exploring either of those eras in their relationship would be extremely relevant to my interests. On the darker end of things, I'd love them getting rough with each other, Reese pushing Fusco's boundaries as far as he can, or Fusco getting the upper hand and having to wrestle with himself, morally, about what to do with his newfound advantage. On the lighter and fluffier end of things, I'd love them being undyingly loyal to one another, Fusco getting under Reese's skin with his pragmatic warmth, or Fusco being swept off his feet by this new, more familiar, more human Reese.

Reese and Fusco get fake-married for a case! Their gleeful animosity, ruthless sense of professionalism, and secret tenderness for one another congeals into a messy tangle of weird feelings that frighten and intimidate all of the other people at this couple’s retreat they’re infiltrating.

They retire together! Maybe they move to the middle of nowhere for hiding-out reasons and Fusco struggles to adjust to country life while Reese gets to be a dad in the form of being a stepdad to Lionel's son.

Lighthouse keeper AU! Reese is a lonesome lighthouse keeper in a lonesome tower, hiding from his problems. Fusco is a gruff local fisherman who delivers supplies to the island and tries to crack Reese’s stony exterior. The weather is stormy. The characters are touch-starved. The sweaters are enormous. Not a “The Lighthouse” AU, plz, i’m sensitive to smell.

Finch and Fusco have a truly adorable dynamic. I love how incredibly different they are from one another in a class-oriented, lowbrow vs. highbrow, slobs vs. snobs kind of way. I like how Finch keeps his emotions behind high walls and his friends at a distance, while Fusco is designed to smash down those walls and relate to people in a very earnest, real way. I loved watching them gradually learn to trust each other and I like how they cover each other’s weak spots.

I would love:

Finch and Fusco keep accidentally cohabitating in the safehouse. Finch will stay there overnight for mission reasons, Fusco sometimes sleeps over because it’s closer to the precinct than his apartment and, between shared breakfasts, Twilight Zone marathons, and much contemplation of how close their bedrooms are, they start to catch feelings.

Chef/Food Critic AU! Fusco’s a chef who makes impeccable comfort food, Finch is a snobby food critic who thinks his palate is too sophisticated for such things.

Post-canon fic about Finch and Fusco patching up their relationship. Maybe Finch comes back to NYC, or Fusco goes to Italy looking for him, or they find creative ways to communicate with each other from afar. (In the context of this prompt, I would prefer a scenario where Finch and Grace have reconnected, but opted not to pursue a romantic relationship.)

Shaw and Fusco’s friendship is my favorite. I loved watching them start as reluctant teammates with very different attitudes to loyalty, mourning, violence, etc. and gradually learn to understand each other a lot better. I like seeing them give each other a hard time, be unexpectedly softhearted about each other, and tackling weird problems together.

I would love:

Shaw and Fusco dealing with a Number that turns out to be supernatural in nature. I’m talking ghosts, werewolves, draculas, mutant sewer gators, a literal wizard: I just want to see them be cranky while solving the ludicrous situation they find themselves in.

ROAD TRIP. For reasons that I shall leave up to you, dear writer, Shaw and Fusco must go on a long cross-country road trip together. They get on each other’s nerves. Their attempt at a shortcut ends in disaster. They go check out a kitschy roadside attraction and actually have a nice time. They are extremely Planes, Trains and Automobiles about the whole thing.

Shaw and Fusco supporting each other post-finale, as the last two members of Team Machine, and finding a way forward together.

Gen (Control & Harold Finch) is fine. Squicks/DNW: A/B/O, Mpreg, stuffing, scat/golden showers (not that any of these really work for this paring, but better to have them and not need them than the other way round), character bashing or making a character act uncharacteristically villainous just to move the plot along.

Control and Harold are both foils and mirrors for each other. Control is very much like Harold before Nathan's death: it's all about the big picture, the ratio of lives saved to lives lost. She knows the exact number of terrorist threats The Machine has stopped, and in both her testimony before Vigilance and chiding the presidential advisor for referring to national security as a "game" we see she is very much motivated by the innocent lives the Program protects. While she is sanguine about the unconstitutionality of how the Program operates, it's associated Geneva violations, and collateral damage to keep TM a secret (see, the ferry bombing to forestall inquiry into Nathan's death or anything an autopsy might reveal), killing on the scale of the Correction is something she ends up taken away to a blacksite trying to stop.

At the same time she is also a foil to Harold: while she was willing to kill Nathan, Harold would not kill Senator McCourt with even more on the line. While she signs off on every dark deed in Relevance -- and performs several with her own two hands -- Harold's is unwilling to really risk his team's lives even in the face of Samaritan's domination of humanity. Control's motivations are impersonal (her driving force is love of her nation), and Harold's are entirely personal (Nathan's legacy and his attachments to individuals like Nathan, John, Root, and Grace; including the fact that the only thing that gets him off his ass is dead Root). For all that Harold is a security risk and outside her control, Control refers to him and his team as "friends" (in context: allies) because they are useful (for bringing Samaritan to her attention). Harold never forgives Control for Nathan's death enough to even attempt cultivating her into asset or ally.

Anything with these two and their dynamic would be wonderful. Random ideas to get the juices flowing: 1) an AU where Harold ended up working with or for the Pentagon as well 2) AU where Control is sniffing around IFT in disguise, TM is keeping mum, and her cover and Harold Starling get on like a house on fire 3) AU during the show where the two of them come to terms in the face of Samaritan's menace 4) post-show, Harold is captured by Control, oh noes! 5) post-show, somehow talking it out -- Harold having his say re: Nathan's death, Control reading Harold the riot act for making Ulysses S. Grant look like a competent strategist by comparison, and realizing they'd be better off working together and offsetting each other's worst tendencies.

All I really ask is that Control be the true neutral (she'll do good but not too good, evil but not too evil, be ordered but not too ordered, break the rules but not all the time, and always motivated by accomplishing her ends) not-villain not-hero that she is. Dark themes okay, any rating acceptable, and if there is smut, bonus points for subby!Harold.

Nathan Ingram was the first Man in the Suit, with a 41% success rate. That's not John, but it's approaching the median close rate for a police department (46-54%) despite Nathan having neither the equipment, training, nor resources of a police department. He also attracted zero media attention for the saves despite having no employees and being, essentially, Bill Gates. Anything focusing on this little factoid is welcome.

Random ideas: 1) Case fic focusing on the mechanics. Did he fund college via GI bill and have some basic military training at his disposal? Was it all guile hero/manipulating matters behind the scenes? Did he use his wealth more tactically than Harold without actually showing his face? What was going on here? 2) AU where TM tips Nathan off, "Dad's tailing you: bail." Therefore, the Library and numbers were never discovered, the back door was never closed, and Nathan never talked to the press. Does Nathan get to the point where he realizes he needs help and recruit John, or does he save Jessica and John gets his HEA? Does Nathan use his back door to free TM? Does she talk to Nathan like she talks to Root in the main timeline, or just numbers and keeping Harold off the scent? Does Shaw end up joining the team? If so, does she try to drink Nathan under the table and lose miserably? 3) AU where Harold tries to come clean because he wants to be honest with Grace and gets killed (or his death faked and kidnapped to some dark hole for all of time), leaving Nathan to be the grieving survivor.

I am actually content with any pairing or no pairing, and any rating.

Does Root consider Shaw an upgrade, or does she just transfer her jealousy of John to Shaw wholesale? Does Root stick around more with Shaw as the point-woman? Is Fusco still a put-upon bulldog?

I am also fine with Shoot + Harold & Shaw friendship or Harold/Shaw for this request. Any rating okay.

If you've participated in exchanges before, our sign up form is pretty straightforward. Just know that a) you must request and offer at least three unique characters/relationships to participate and b) if you want to request/offer fanworks focusing on a single character, type “Character: [Character Name]" into the Relationships field.

Otherwise, enter one relationship that you would like to see in a fanwork created for you. Relationships may be romantic (/) or platonic (&). You may select any relationship that is in the tagset.

You may also select Any Relationship. This means that you are willing to receive fanwork for, literally, any tagset character/relationship. Only use this option if you are sure that any is what you want.

When nominating characters, use the format Character: FirstName LastName. For example Character: Harold Finch. Ao3 will NOT autofill this, so check your spelling before you submit!

Hello! Delighted to have you. The Ao3 collection will be set to anonymous during the posting period so everything in the collection will automatically show as anonymous. As long as you post to the collection, your name won’t show up until creator reveals!

Exchange of Interest Returns for 2022!

Welcome back, Irrelevants! We are delighted to announce that the Exchange of Interest will return for another year.

This is a multimedia fanworks exchange celebrating the characters of the TV show Person of Interest. Participants will sign up to create and receive one brand new fanwork!

Whether you ship Shoot, Rinch, Bear/Happiness, or want something without any shipping — whether you want to create a fanwork or just cheer everyone on — we want you to participate! Nominations will run from April 4th-7th and signups will run from April 8th-17th, with fanworks due on May 29th

Thank you for asking! It's fine to use prompts from previous rounds of Exchange of Interest for inspiration. We just recommend that you check in with the prompter to make sure they're OK with the fic being dedicated to them.

Treats, Pinch Hits, and Beta Services

What are treats?

A treat is an optional work created for the collection. People who are not signed up for the exchange are welcome to create treats, as are participants.

Treats do not need to meet the same criteria as assignments. For example, the minimum word count for fic assignments is 1,000 words, but a treat can be fewer than 1,000 words. However, treats must still respect the recipient’s DNWs (Do Not Wants) and the mods will be checking each and every fanwork submitted to ensure that recipients’ DNWs are respected.

How do I post a treat?

While signed in on Ao3, go to Post->New Work.

From there, you can fill out the information as follows for your work down to this category: Post to Collections / Challenges? When you hit that, go ahead and type in the following: exchange_of_interest_2021.

If you are creating for a specific person’s prompts, be sure to gift them the work!

What are pinch hits?

Pinch hits are any assignments that are not able to be matched by the mods during the initial matching phase, or any assignments where the creator is unable to finish before the deadline.

For all pinch hits, the mods are using a Google Group. When a pinch hit becomes available, the mods will send an email to the group with the request details. To claim the pinch hit, reply to the mod email (poi.fanworks@gmail.com) with your Ao3 username. Once it has been claimed, we will send out another email to update its status.

Unless we are past the deadline, pinch hits will be due at the same time as assignments.

How can I get the services of a beta?

We have a Google Group for people to post requests for assistance, as well as for those interested in offering their services.

If you are seeking a beta, please provide the following information:

Relationship category (F/F, Het, M/M, Multi, Other, Gen)

Rating (use the Ao3 system)

Any applicable warnings (Non-con, etc)

What you are looking for in a beta

What medium you are working in (Fic, Art, Remix, Podfic, Fanvid)

For Fic/Remix: Please provide a word count of your draft.

Please double check that your recipient is not the person offering to be your beta! If you are not sure, please ask the mods and we will check for you!

No initial pinch hits! Yay!

We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of a couple of rules: - You must create a fanwork about one character/pairing on your recipient’s Request List. They have to be the main focus of the fanwork. The character/pairing does NOT have to be one that you offered. If you are inspired by something else, you are free to run with it! - You may not incorporate content in your fanwork that violates your recipient’s squicks/triggers/do-not-wants. Other than that, your recipient’s prompts are guidelines meant to help you get inspired, not absolute musts. You do not have to create content you’re not comfortable with.

Here are a few other things to keep in mind: -DON’T post publicly about the specifics of your assignment. This includes Tumblr, Dreamwidth, LJ, Discord, or anywhere else. It is okay to say “wow, I’m so excited to get started!” It is NOT okay to say “I’m so excited to write for X” -DO contact the mods if you have problems with or questions about your assignment.
