The girl grinned, as Tessa was  so human that it was easy to  forget she had lived through so  much and seen so much, “We are managing. Reverting back to  normalcy is more difficult than it  seems.” She admitted. The two of  them had grown prone to threats  that they were always expecting it. “How are you? And Zachariah?”

"You’ll succeed,” she encouraged with no hint of uncertainty. “You and Jace are still together after all the  storms you weathered together.  That says enough to me.” 

A faint blush colored her cheeks at Clary’s question, and she  failed in hiding a smile at the  thought of Jem. Having him back still felt like a miracle to Tessa.  "We are adjusting. The years have  changed us, but not our feelings.  We know what we want, but are  trying to take it slowly, if that  makes sense...?”

Alec watched in disbelief as Tessa changed in front of his eyes. He knew things like this were possible. He was, after all, dating a warlock. But to actually see it in front of his eyes was amazing.

 ❝ So, uhm… How do you feel? ❞

❝ Like some girl touched my mangoes    and I can’t remember. ❞

What a weird thing to say, Tessa thought, but  the words had left her mouth before she realized it. Shaking her head slightly, she closed her now  GOLDEN eyes and tried to focus on any thought or memory that might give her an inclination to  Jace’s location.  ❝ Clary, Clary, Clary...Are we sure she doesn’t     know where he is? ❞

Alec listened as carefully as possible as Tessa spoke. He didn’t want to be the reason this messed up, or if it went wrong, so he made sure to listen to her words and pay  the utmost attention to her.

Something personal of Jace’s. Well, that wouldn’t be too difficult. He did live in the Institute with them. His room hadn’t been touched since he left. Alec wasn’t sure if he could FACE going in there though and instructed one of  the other Shadowhunters to go in and find something.

In practically no time at all they were back, holding one of Jace’s shirts in their hand. Alec thanked them quietly and handed the shirt to Tessa, biting his lip.

                ❝ Are you sure you’re alright to do this? I                     think everyone here will UNDERSTAND                    if you don’t want to. ❞

Tessa could feel her heart pounding in her throat. It had been so long since she used this particular ability, and  to do so with someone who descended from her own  BLOODLINE left her unrattled. 

Taking the shirt from Alec and watching the others go,  she wasted no time in focusing on the task at hand.  Better to get it over with quick. 

She could feel it rippling over her, like a soft current getting stronger with every passing second. Her body was changing, and as she did, so did her mind. Thoughts that were most definitely not her own infiltrating the silent  corners, until Tessa Gray was no more.  

               ❝ I thinks it’s too LATE to turn back now.  ❞

Alec knew that he probably came across as unwelcoming but he was working on it. He’d get there eventually Magnus was changing him a lot. He didn’t want to seem abrasive or an ass anymore. Simon called him that a lot. Plus, it was still strange to think this woman was family. Alec took a lot of warming up to people. 

“Magnus did?” The frown that appeared on his face was a deep one. “Did he say where he was going?” There was definite worry in his voice now as he looked at Tessa.

“Not really, no,” she admitted, sitting up straighter now. Alec’s worry was sparking her own and where she had discarded the hurried, frantic way in which Magnus had left in belief it was a silly lover’s spat, she couldn’t deny there might be something bigger going on here. 

Clearing her throat, she offered, “But I can help you find him, if you want.” It was the least she could do for one of her oldest friends and his lover, who also happened to be a Lightwood.

Zoey closed her eyes as she was pulled tighter against the other. “It wasn’t anything, i just realized i am going to spend hundreds of years without him.” Her father had been a constant in her mind, though he could die she had never thought anything would actually kill the older warlock.

She gave a smile at the feeling of the salve, surprised that the other didn’t simply use magic. “Okay, thank you.”

Ofcourse, she should have known that was the reason. A deep sadness darkened Tessa’s already stormy grey eyes as she stared down at the little girl. “At least you got to know him,” she whispered, knowing it was little consolation, but it was all she could say.

The concoction contained magic, but she did not give away the secret ingredient. Zoey would notice the improvement soon enough. “You’re welcome.”
