Alright, so I went ahead and made the MM—for now, I did go ahead and add Pat and Than as some of the characters, though I’m not certain if they’ll be staying there. Aether is staying on their own blog, for now.
There are characters from other series on there as well, and I do want to warn that some of the character biographies do contain spoilers!

This is a permanent starter call! Liking this post is more or less permission for me to write you starters and/or send in unprompted interactions/questions/etc. into your inbox—not to the level of spam, mind you, but mostly just to keep interactions up and build a rapport between our muses! In short: if I’m not annoying you by sending you things from time to time, you’re welcome to like this post to let me know!

❛ How fine you look when dressed in rage. ❜ @riskitall | Alice: Madness Returns
“I would have thought it didn’t suit me.”
Patroclus remembers every instance of anger he’d experienced in life. He would like to believe he’s never been quick to rise to fury , and so for as few as they were, that must mean that they were quite significant. The times he remembers being angry with Achilles are even fewer and further in between, he knows, and still to hear him say that, he– Patroclus can’t help but feel embarrassed.
“There’s nothing so impressive about my rage like there is yours. Even when I was alive, I couldn’t do anything with it.” The most spectacular feat he ever performed before his death had been out of fear and desperation and likely was little more than a ploy of the gods and that, really, suits him perfectly. But then, Achilles had always claimed things that Patroclus never quite saw in himself, and Patroclus had gone to his grave before he could know whether he’d become biased because of his feelings or if there was really any truth there. There are mortal men who accomplished the feats of gods, those who could stand on par with Achilles and Sarpedon and such, and then there are men like Patroclus.
“I can only... sit and glare menacingly, I suppose.” And yet, there’s the barest hint of a chuckle beneath his words.

food and drink
Having a teacher as competent in the culinary arts as Chiron has given Patroclus considerable skills and knowledge of preparing food, though nothing has contributed more to this experience in the craft than Achilles’ pickiness in their youth. Until years into the Trojan War, when even Aristos Achaion was no longer afforded much in the way of luxury, the son of Thetis was very particular in regards to what sorts of dishes he tolerated just as much as the method of preparation, and it was a challenge that Patroclus was all too willing to take up, for the sake of his companion. Though he and Achilles both were taught the art of hunting and food preparation, it became one of few things Patroclus devoted more of his time to than the halfling prince, and so by the time the pair descended from Mount Pelion, the son of Peleus was capable of making food to survive, whereas the son of Menoetius was capable of making food to be enjoyed.
Even in the midst of the war, Patroclus found some joy in cooking for his consorts, though only his most special and elaborate recipes would do for the likes of his beloved Achilles, and of his close companion Briseis. Nevertheless, even simple ingredients and dishes took on interesting qualities when prepared by his careful hand, though who can say if that knowledge still persists in him so many centuries later...

Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.

❛ What? There’s no hope, then? ❜ @wargodling | Alice: Madness Returns
Patroclus recognizes her for what she is, but not quite who: if so, his rage would likely get the better of him and though words are all he has, these days, he would be beyond them. But he continues, despite himself, and lets his gaze wander the Lethe as he considers the innocence in her question.
“It’s different, for you. Live forever, and it matters little; the wrath of a spiteful deity who didn’t quite get their way must be little more than an annoyance, from time to time. But for a mortal, imagine what it is to know you’ll die young, someday, when Lord Ares decides he’s bored of peace, or to know you can do nothing once honorable Lord Zeus’s gaze should wander upon your sister, your daughter. Imagine having so... little control over your own life, only for the judges to determine your worth based upon circumstances you could not control because the Lady Fates had ordained it.”
Sometimes, Patroclus wonders if Achilles could even have chosen a peaceful life. He recalls vaguely the whispers of a prophecy, echoed in his mind in the harsh rasp of Thetis, and wonders if the Fates were amused to think they’d tricked a goddess into believing her son could somehow overcome their decision.
“We humans have to accept that whatever hope remains is for those that will come after us, or else we might drive ourselves mad. Sometimes it is our action that pave the roads our descendants will walk upon, and at other times, you gods would require more. Our deaths. Our suffering. Have you stopped to wonder what it’s like knowing you won’t exist someday? Were you a mortal, you will close your eyes, and then you will be no more. Now imagine that there is someone stronger than you, infinitely, who could coax you over that edge at any moment should they happen to need the amusement that day.”

"Krrrhhh..." ( ❛ The past must be paid for. ❜ ) @charobol | Alice: Madness Returns
“Many of us have already paid our price, ferryman. Or so I would like to imagine it.”
Patroclus knows of the psychopomps, Thanatos in particular; he and many of his men were not graced with Lord Death’s presence, once their threads had been severed. Violent deaths are to be expected, in war, but to imagine dying so brutally, left to burn, to drown, to bleed out, stabbed to death with force enough to kill but not enough to grant an immediate and merciful death... he remembers watching Hector stand above him, unsure as to whether it was his blood or his soul that dripped from the holes torn in his skin, through his ribcage. The Myrmidon looks away from Charon.
“Most mortals committed no crime greater than being mortal, I would imagine. If anyone would know, it would be you.” Patroclus cares little for Elysium, but to think that such deaths earned so few even this luxury in the afterlife... just how do the judges weigh the worth of a human soul? Is it not enough to die for one’s king and country if it is not ‘heroic’ enough a death? “They were men once, weren’t they? The judges. I can’t help but wonder... but I suppose it isn’t for me to question. I’ve ‘earned’ my stay here in Elysium, so they tell me. I ought to be content with that.”

GAME STARTERS VOL.1         ALICE : MADNESS RETURNS
❛ The past must be paid for. ❜
❛ Only the insane equate pain with success. ❜
❛ I’d like to forget what you did. I’ve tried, but I can’t. ❜
❛ Is it mad to pray for better hallucinations? ❜
❛ I know I’m guilty of something, but punishment hardly ever suits the victim of a crime. ❜
❛ You’ve used me and abused me, but you will not destroy me! ❜
❛ It’s not a dream. It’s a – memory. And it makes me sick. ❜
❛ I am fine. I’m not mad. I am innocent, I mean, —- not guilty! ❜
❛ I’ve not come back here looking for a fight. ❜
❛ Save myself? From death? I’m not afraid to die. Times I’ve welcomed death! ❜
❛ I want to forget! Who would choose to be alone, imprisoned by their broken memories? ❜
❛ Threats, promises and good intentions don’t amount to action. ❜
❛ We’re at risk here. You, be on your guard. ❜
❛ A secret is only a secret when it is unspoken to another. ❜
❛ How fine you look when dressed in rage. ❜
❛ The uninformed must improve their deficit, or die. ❜
❛ Authority must be obeyed, or it must be overthrown. ❜
❛ You shouldn’t ask questions you know the answers to, it’s not polite. ❜
❛ Make your survival mean something, or we are all doomed. ❜
❛ Memory is more often a curse than a blessing. ❜
❛ The real world is not so wonderful. You’ll need to grow up. ❜
❛ You look decent enough. But appearances deceive. ❜
❛ You are no help at all when I know you can be. ❜
❛ You’re as randomly lethal and entirely confused as you ever were. ❜
❛ I’ve managed without you so far. Return to whatever hovel’s home to you, I’ll call if I need you. ❜
❛ What? There’s no hope, then? ❜
❛ Failure as your epitaph? I’d hoped you were more courageous. ❜
❛ You are someone I once knew and loved. Time changes us all. ❜
❛ The malignant royal bitch still reigns. ❜
❛ I believe I know that way and I’d rather not travel further along it. ❜
❛ They are dead, and you should be too. ❜
❛ You misbegotten abomination! Murderer! You bloodsucking parasite! ❜
❛ You psychotic, hysterical bitch! ❜
❛ Come to receive your punishment then? ❜
❛ There is so little hope and if fear paralyses you we’re lost. ❜

❛ Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. ❜ @furiese | a game of thrones
Consider Patroclus surprised to find that the Fury makes for better company than most of his fellow fallen heroes do. He knows not what brought her here, much less what persuaded to linger, and grant him even a minute of her time—but this conversation they’ve had, short as it is, has been... enlightening. His weakness– oh, Patroclus has many. In so many ways is he lacking, inferior compared to his peers, even the Myrmidons beneath him, in life; even without counting Achilles, there was always someone stronger, faster, more coordinated, better with the spear or the sword or their tactics.
A hum rises low in Patroclus’ throat; he considers the Lethe stretching out before them, and wonders if he even does possess a weakness he might turn into a strength, someday. “Spoken like one who’s done such a thing before, Lady Fury. I understand.”
