I'm Nick, and welcome to EXPzero. This blog is all about weird games and unconventional mechanics, whether they are an intended aspect of the game itself, or an original way in which someone decided to play. Anything goes, and both submissions and comments are welcome!

Whoa, some of you are still here!
I checked this blog on a whim recently and that Super Paper Mario post has a lot of notes! And it’s still going around! I had no idea.
I haven’t been using tumblr much, but I am still on my main blog occasionally, and that’s where I post my latest videos.
Rather than typing about games, I’ve been talking about them during Let’s Plays! So if you enjoyed the text posts on this blog, you’ll probably enjoy those even more! Go have a look!
I’ve been playing things like Bloodborne, Sonic Adventure, Undertale, and today I just started The Witness. I talk about social issues and make lots of mistakes. It’s a good time.
Thanks for following this blog! This will probably be the last post on here, so I hope to see you on youtube or on my main blog! <3

I started playing Metroid Fusion! I’m too distracted by how much I genuinely enjoy this game to be terribly funny, though.

I played a really interesting browser game called The Absence of Is. You control a doctor, but the goal is not as simple as just keeping your patients alive.
If you want to try the game yourself, you can play it online here!

I'm having a giveaway over on my main blog!

!!!GIVEAWAY!!!
So I got an extra Rosalina amiibo in the Target rush, and I’m not really inclined to go through the hassle of selling it on ebay. So now it can be yours!
This giveaway is for one Rosalina amiibo (sealed, in-box), which was a Target exclusive and is now completely sold out. It’s the North American version, but as far as I know it works on any region’s Wii U.
Reblog to enter!
Tumblr only counts one, so more than that does not increase your chances.
You do not need to be following me; The only thing I ask is that you check out my Youtube channel! Subscribing will NOT increase your chances of winning, but it will make you really cool.
I’ll ship free to anywhere in the US! I can ship internationally too but you might need to help me out because I’ve never done that before.
Ends 03/03/15 and the winner will be contacted via ask box and @ mention that evening.
That’s it! Good luck!

What are some creepy games you’d like to see me play?? Literally anything weird or scary; I don’t care if it’s jump scares or deeply psychological.

Hope! Happiness! LIBERTY! Watch me play Presentable Liberty, which is like, basically Animal Crossing except even more happy!
There are some flashing lights around an hour in, and they’re pretty mild, but just in case.

I started playing The Crooked Man. It’s…”scary”?
I realized these parts are way too short considering the length of this game, so they’ll become longer as it goes on.

I've hardly been posting!
"What have you been doing all this time instead of tumbling about weird games?" you might ask.
Well, in addition to working a lot, I've been PLAYING weird games for once! And I've been recording them in a format that might be known as "Let's Plays".
You can find all of them on my YouTube: sevenisyellow!
I spend a lot of these videos rambling about game design and narrative tropes; basically all the stuff that I used to write about but now in a conveniently-improvised comedy format, filmed mostly in the middle of the night.
I won't be making many posts (aside from reblogs) on this blog anymore, because I find it much easier to talk through a game than to write about it post-completion. So if you'd like to hear my commentary, I'd love it if you checked out my channel, and maybe even subscribed!

Here are a couple games I’ve been working on recently!! I need a bit of help to be able to keep making games as I have been for the past while.
I’ve been making a lot lately, but I’ve been lacking a little financially and under pressure ; U ; So, I’m running a sale on a couple of my games if you’d like to check it out! (http://itch.io/s/1249/the-keep-from-smiling-from-starving-bundle)

there’s a kickstarter for a PC version of NightCry (formerly known as Project Scissors, Clock Tower series creator Hifumi Kono’s dream game and spiritual successor to Clock Tower) and with it was released a short film tie-in directed by Takashi Shimizu, director of most of the Ju-On series and its American remake The Grudge, who also serves as NightCry’s co-creator and creative producer
on top of the short film being in general excellently creepy (if corny at parts) there are a lot of pretty cute nods to things the members of the game staff have worked on in the past in the opening pans, including what must honestly be a good third of Shimizu’s own catalog (various DVDs of Tormented/Rabbit Horror 3D, Ju-On, Marebito, Dark Tales of Japan, The Shock Labyrinth 3D, and a couple of others), a bunch of Appleseed things that creative advisor Shinji Aramaki and producer Joseph Chou worked on, a blu-ray of the CG Captain Harlock movie produced by Chou, and a copy of Clock Tower 2 (the one known in the US as -The First Fear-, not that weird one about zombies), directed by Kono—all culminating in the kid, Sam, straight-up playing NightCry itself on iPad for the self-referencing to come full circle
the short film gives some insight as to what goes on in the game and finally namedrops its baddie, the Scissor Walker, and especially considering that plot details besides “cruise ship” have been super scant, even on the kickstarter page’s story section, it’s really cool to have a short film of all things to spell it out (and provide some healthy opportunities for speculation). not that there’s anything in particular that’s wrong with regular plot synopses, but it’s a lot more engaging than a paragraph or two of text, and I find it embodies the whole spirit of the thing really well: it’s a collaboration between some of the most influential people in J-horror, so, hey, here’s some J-horror
