Just Keep Swimming

Mermaid!AU Oneshot - Seokjin; Jimin; Jungkook

For the past few weeks, the only thing that anyone talked about was the recent human festivities taking place on the nearby beach. Of course, this news traveled to Bangtan’s den pretty quickly, and all of the young mermaids were desperately curious. Therefore, it fell to Jimin, the charmer of the ocean, to seek out answers to the questions vibrantly burning in all of their minds. 

“Please let me come too, hyung,” begged Jungkook, the youngest mermaid. As the youngest, Jungkook rarely got to leave their shared cove, so when any opportunity to explore the surrounding world presented itself, Jungkook instantly pounced on it. 

“I don’t know Kookie, it might be dangerous. Plus, there will be humans around,” muttered Jimin, focusing on getting everything he needed for the trip.

“Please hyung! I’ll be careful, and I’ll have you to look out for me!” Jungkook begged, eyes big and sad. Not even Jimin, the charmer of the ocean himself, could resist. However, the rest of Bangtan were quick to object when they broke the news.

“Hang on, there’s no way Jungkook’s going with you,” argued Seokjin, reluctant to let the youngest so far away from the safety of their cove.

“Come on hyung, he’s not a child. He knows how to take care of himself, and I know the ocean better than anyone,” protested Jimin, the memory of Jungkook’s sad eyes burning in his brain.

“I don’t feel comfortable with him leaving like that. You may know the ocean, but Jungkook doesn’t know anything about the world outside the cove. What if something happens to him?”

“If you’re that worried, then you could come with us hyung,” Jimin pointed out. Therefore, as a compromise between Jungkook’s desperation to see the world and Seokjin’s worries about Jungkook, the three of them agreed to set out together in order to discover the truth behind the rumours about the human festivities.

It wasn’t long before they ran into another mermaid, and Jimin turned up the charm to coax an answer to their curiosities. As it turned out, the nearby village was having a week of celebration, and were holding their parties and other events on the beach. But instead of feeling satisfied with this answer, the fire of curiosity inside each mermaid only burned brighter. They didn’t even need to look at each other to know they all wanted to catch a glimpse of this ‘celebration’ - all three mermaids were dying to finally see a real-life example of human festivities. Jungkook could feel fireworks in his bloodstream just thinking of the possibilities. They swam in unison, tails cutting through the water as sharp as shark teeth. With their scorching questions pushing them forward, it wasn’t long before the mermaids were close to the shore. They could all hear joyful shouts and laughter coming from the beach, even from underneath the water.

“I want to see!” exclaimed Jungkook, launching himself towards the ocean’s surface. However, he didn’t get very far before Seokjin yanked him back towards the other two.

“Slow down Kook. we don’t know how many humans are there, nor how close we are to the surface. We need to stop and set some precautions,” Jimin reasoned, before turning to Seokjin and speaking in strategic jargon - all of which was both too complicated and boring to Jungkook. Realising Seokjin had loosened his grip on his tail fin, Jungkook once again made his way to the surface, this time much quieter in order to not alert the older mermaids. Once his head broke through the water’s surface, his eyes instantly lit up with wonder at the magnificent sights in front of him. Humans. Real-life humans right there in front of him. Human children running along the sand, human adults standing in groups laughing - standing on two legs! Jungkook’s entire torso rose out of the water as he strained to get a closer look at the humans on the shore. Just then, a few fireworks were set off, and shot up into the sky above him before exploding into a cascade of beautiful colours. Jungkook lay back onto the water’s surface and closed his eyes, letting the sounds of the festivities fill his ears and bounce around in his brain.

Unfortunately for Jungkook, a group of lifeguards were keeping watch very close to where he was floating on the water. One of them soon spotted the young mermaid.

“Dude, look! Is that kid alright?” one of them asked, pointing at Jungkook, who appeared to be either sleeping or unconscious from an outsider’s perspective. The other lifeguards shrugged, and the two men approach Jungkook’s peaceful form. In unison, two of them reached down and swiftly pulled Jungkook up out of the water. Jungkook’s eyes instantly shot open as he was roughly pulled up, and tried to struggle away from the humans who had a hold of him. But it was too late. The men caught sight of his tail and, as their mouths fell open in shock, all realised that this was bigger than any of them had ever even dreamed of.

At this moment, Jimin and Seokjin were still in conversation, hidden in deeper water. It was Jungkook’s yell of “Hyungs!” that finally drew their attention to their current situation. Looking up, they just caught sight of Jungkook’s tail fins disappear out of the water, and without thinking they both swam at full speed towards the surface. Breaking through, they came face to face with the same group of lifeguards, who took hold of the two mermaids before they could duck back under the waves. They too were pulled up and out of the water, and despite their quite violent struggling, were set down on the rocks next to Jungkook. Seokjin reached out to reassure the youngest, while Jimin glared daggers at the men in front of him. The lifeguards were in a huddle, obviously trying to figure out what to do with the three mermaids they had caught.

“Are you alright Jungkookie?” asked Seokjin, concerned for the youngest as his protective streak shone through.

“I’m scared hyung, what are they going to do to us?” asked Jungkook, his voice trembling slightly. Before Seokjin or Jimin had a chance to answer, the huddle of men broke up, and the mermaids were hoisted over shoulders as the lifeguards set off. After a short walk, the three mermaids were unceremoniously thrown into a small cove, their captors quickly vanishing from sight behind the too-tall walls.

“Is everyone alright?” asked Seokjin once they had all readjusted to their new surroundings. 

“Where the hell are we?” asked Jimin, rubbing his arm where one of the men had grabbed him too hard. Without waiting for an answer, Jimin swam around the perimeter of the little cove, checking for possible exits. Jungkook huddled close to Seokjin as they watched Jimin tap on the rock and dive beneath the surface, trying to find a way out of their new prison. Jungkook turned slightly to bury his head in Seokjin’s neck, seeking comfort from his oldest hyung. Suddenly, Jimin burst up from underneath the water, a triumphant smile shining on his face.

“I found a gap in the rock, looks like some of them came down and blocked an exit. We should be able to move them,” he explained, gesturing for the others to follow him beneath the water. They all quickly spotted the beam of light coming through a pile of loose rocks, swimming rapidly to reach it. Jimin reached the gap first, managing to manoeuvre himself through the gap to the other side. He breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of the open ocean stretching ahead of him, but as he turned to look back at the others, his heart sank in despair and frustration. Seokjin and Jungkook couldn’t get through the gap. Jimin quickly swam back, desperately trying to think of a solution. He was determined to get them out of their prison and back to the safety of Bangtan’s cove. Seeing tears well up in Jungkook’s doe eyes, Jimin reached for his hand as a gesture of comfort.

“Don’t cry Kookie, I’m going to get you out and back home. I promise,” reassured Jimin, as he looked over the inside of the cove and the pile of rocks. His eyes slowly began to gleam as an idea formed itself inside his head. Giving Jungkook’s hand one last squeeze, Jimin let go and turned to Seokjin. “These rocks are loose, if you move them out of the way, the gap will widen and you’ll be able to fit through-”

“Hey! Where’d they go?!” came a loud voice from above the cove. One of the lifeguards had returned to check on the mermaids. Jimin locked eyes with Seokjin, and once he was sure they both knew the plan, he gathered an armful of rocks and swam around to the other side of the cove. Mustering all his strength, he threw one of the rocks before hiding under the water. He could hear the rock loudly hit the ground behind the lifeguard, followed by a surprised yelp. Swimming to another side, Jimin repeated the sequence as he listened to another crash and another shout. This continued for a couple of minutes, until Jimin swum back to the exit and saw Seokjin and Jungkook heading towards him. Instantly he let go of the remaining rocks and took off as fast as possible in the direction of their home.

It was approaching evening when the three mermaids finally made it back to Bangtan’s cove. All three of them were covered in scratches and bruises, and were all seriously out of breath. Yoongi was the first to catch sight of them, and with a startled yell, alerted the others of their presence.

“What the hell happened? Where have you been?” interrogated Yoongi, as he and the others swam over to them. The three escapees continued to breath heavily, basking in the comfort they received from the rest of their group. It was nice to see Yoongi’s outward concern for their safety and well-being, rare as it was. Noticing the dinner that was just being served, the three mermaids swam over and each took a seat around the dinner and promptly began to eat and regain their strength. The other four watched them warily for a moment, but decided not to push for any more answers, and settled down to eat dinner as a group.

Later that evening, as the mermaids all lay together, Jungkook sat up. His eyes were shining, even though he wore a hesitant expression.

“What’s up Jungkook?” asked Namjoon, noticing the look on the youngest’s face and quickly sitting up. The other mermaids followed suit, all looking at Jungkook.

“I want to tell you my adventure, like hyungs always do,” he admitted quietly, not making eye contact as his cheeks blossomed pink. The other mermaids all cooed softly, and assembled themselves in a semi-circle around Jungkook. He looked up at their smiling and expectant faces, took a deep breath, and began telling his adventure to his group. The four mermaids who had not been present all listened intently, mouths slightly parted and ears perked up as they listened to the youngest. Seokjin and Jimin, who both already knew the story, simply sat back and let Jungkook have his turn at weaving a story from his first adventure. When he finished, the other mermaids all surged forward and enveloped him in a tight hug - a hug of pride and reassurance and simple, pure happiness. They were all okay. And they always would be, so long as they were together.

BTS with their soulmate (Werewolf!AU)

Kim Seokjin (Jin):

Werewolf soulmates have a very specific scent - this makes it easier for werewolves to detect their soulmates.

Seokjin first smells you in a crowded market on a day out, but he can’t see you.

For the next few days he can’t think of anything but you and your scent.

Luckily for him, he manages to run into you again - this time in a coffee shop.

He doesn’t hesitate and immediately approaches you, not wanting to let you get away again.

You instantly notice his charm, and you find him endearing and good company.

So when he asks you on a date, you don’t even think before agreeing.

Seokjin acts like a stereotypical gentleman in the beginning of your relationship.

He’s always buying you flowers and presents, opening doors for you, paying for things, etc.

However, as the relationship progresses, you start to feel guilty.

You decide to sit him down and have a conversation about equal responsibility in your relationship.

You tell him you want him to be himself - not what he thinks he should be.

This instantly makes him more comfortable around you and the relationship becomes much less one-sided.

From that day on, every major problem is settled by simply sitting down and talking like mature adults.

Seokjin decides to do exactly this when he admits that he’s a werewolf - however, you don’t believe him.

Two days later is a full moon, and of course Seokjin can’t help but shift into his wolf form.

He tries to get away from your house to avoid scaring you, but you catch a glimpse of him running into the nearby woods.

Then comes a period of adjustment, involving a lot of awkwardness between the two of you.

Eventually you can’t stand the awkwardness any more, and decide to break the tense atmosphere.

“Hey Seokjin, what’s a werewolf’s favourite day of the week?”

“Moonday!”

Seokjin instantly lets out his signature windshield-wiper laugh, and you both know it’s going to be alright.

After those awkward couple of weeks, Seokjin becomes very affectionate around you - he’s always latched onto you, and scents you at every given opportunity.

He even gets upset if he can’t smell himself on you.

Overall, your relationship comes down to mutual trust and respect for each other, and you two couldn’t be more in love.

Min Yoongi (Suga):

Yoongi first smelled you while he’s patrolling the forest borders, and instantly recognises your scent.

He started to feel conflicted while standing at the edge of the forest - he can’t choose between protecting his Pack or going after you.

Not long after, Hoseok (who was also patrolling the forest) finds him. As soon as he smells you, he encourages Yoongi to go after you, promising to look after the Pack in his absence.

Yoongi obeys and takes off after you, but somehow manages to collide straight into you.

You both fall over, and Yoongi scrapes his arm on the concrete.

You both apologise, but then you see the scrapes on his arm and insist on taking him to your flat to patch him up.

After you bandage his arm, he offers to buy you dinner as a thank you - of course you agree.

However, without realising beforehand, he takes you to the same restaurant where the Pack last saw the Rogue.

The memories of that incident make him anxious and jumpy all night - eventually you take him to your flat and ask him what’s wrong.

He tells you everything about werewolves, his Pack, the Rogue, and the effect she had on their lives.

Yoongi is seriously surprised at himself - he normally struggles with opening up to even the people closest to him.

 After he had fully opened up to you, he was terrified of your reaction - he couldn’t bear the thought of losing you.

However, while his insecurities were tearing him apart, you hadn’t even flinched.

In reality, a branch of your extended family were werewolves, so over your life you had gotten used to their way of life.

You quickly noticed the fear creeping on to Yoongi’s face, and instantly reassure him that you know about werewolves, and you love him just the same.

You will never forget the look of absolute relief on Yoongi’s face when you told him those words.

Since then, Yoongi has never had any trouble opening up to you, and he trusts that you will never judge him for his worries or opinions.

You’ve always supported him, even through the worst bouts of his depression.

Your relationship revolves around mutual support, and the knowledge that you will always be there for each other no matter what.

Jung Hoseok (J-Hope):

You and Hoseok had known each other for a while now - he ran dance classes that you attended.

This also means that Hoseok has known that you were his soulmate for a long time.

However, he never mentioned this to you - he was too scared of rejection.

One day while you were practicing, you tripped over and twisted your ankle.

Hoseok heard you cry out in pain and ran to see what had happened.

He saw you on the ground and, without even thinking, gathered you up in his arms.

He took you into the next room to check up on your ankle and make sure you were OK.

After finishing his check-up, Hoseok looked up at you.

He had only meant to ask if you were alright, but the words got caught in his throat while staring at your face, and before he knew it he was pressing his lips to yours.

You remained still for a moment, slightly shocked at his sudden and unexpected advances.

But just as he was about to pull away, he felt you kiss back and had never felt happier than in that singular moment.

Since then, you’ve been in a happy and loving relationship with each other - but something still feels wrong to you.

After months of dating (once you’d moved in together) you come home from work very late in the evening.

Hoseok doesn’t respond when you call him, but when you walk into your shared bedroom you almost faint at the sight of a fully grown wolf.

Since it’s a full moon, he can’t change back and talk to you, so he spends the night in the woods to keep himself from scaring you further.

The next day, he goes back to your home and finds you making him breakfast in the kitchen.

The sight of you doing this for him, even though he had seriously scared you, made him break down as his emotions spilled over the edge.

He starts letting everything out - all of his fears and secrets and more than anything his overwhelming love for you.

You simply wrap your arms tightly around him, letting him cry into your neck as you listen to what he has to say, all the while giving him whispered reassurances and gentle kisses.

After laying his heart open for you to see, and after seeing that you don’t love him any less for it, Hoseok becomes much happier in your relationship - he’s more relaxed than you’ve ever seen him.

You two become the stereotypically cute couple - hand-holding, cheek kisses, even sharing clothes (seeing him in your oversized hoodies is always a delight).

Hoseok has never felt more comfortable than he is with you, especially now he knows that you will be there for him through anything.

Kim Namjoon (RM):

You and Namjoon first met in the forest where he lived.

He was walking around in the late hours of the evening collecting medicinal plants and flowers.

You had been walking around your hometown while far away in your mind, not even realising how lost you had gotten yourself.

He had heard you coming from quite a distance away, and was also very aware of your scent.

He couldn’t do anything except stare at you as he watched you approach him.

Eventually you looked up and locked eyes with him - this was then followed by a very long awkward pause.

After a long time you couldn’t take the silence and called out to him.

“Hello there. What’re you doing with all those pretty flowers?”

He managed to find his voice after a moment, but he was so nervous - stuttering and stammering all over the place.

You continued talking to each other for a while before you both had to be somewhere else, but you went away that evening knowing you wanted to get to know him better.

Hence why the next day when he was out in the forest, he found you in the same place waiting for him.

This pattern continued for months - every evening he would venture into the forest to find you waiting for him, you’d talk for a few hours, then you’d both go your separate ways.

He felt bad about keeping secrets from you, so he admitted that he’s a werewolf early on in your relationship - not that he needed to worry.

You cared about each other so much that not even the supernatural could drive you two apart.

As your friendship continued to blossom, he became a more permanent part of your life and began spending most of his free time at your flat.

One lazy afternoon the two of you were lying in comfortable silence together, just relaxing in each other’s presence.

In fact, Namjoon was so relaxed that his werewolf instincts started to overpower his human logic.

He simply rolled over and buried his head into your neck, scenting you without a single hesitation in his mind.

You were obviously a bit shocked, but he just seemed so relaxed and comfortable that you didn’t dare to move a muscle - plus you were curious to see what he was doing and why.

A few silent minutes passed before Namjoon’s human logic retook control, and he quickly rolled over, back to you and face burning red.

You looked at him softy for a moment, before placing a cool hand on his arm.

“What’s going on Joon? Why did you do that?”

He was just as nervous as the first time you met, stuttering and stammering through a hasty explanation that the two of you are soulmates.

As soon as he said that word, you pushed him onto his back and kissed him with long-awaited love and passion.

In that moment, the two of you entered your destined relationship, and as each day passes, the two of you only grow happier and happier.

Park Jimin (Jimin):

Jimin had been working for a while in a quaint little cafe his friend owned.

He had often noticed you, since you worked in a bookshop opposite the cafe.

Even though you had never interacted with each other, Jimin had a serious crush on you.

Whenever he was asked why, he would simply answer that he fell in love with your smile, or was enamoured by your kindness - but there was also a more unconscious reason.

Every time Jimin walked past your bookshop, he was always hit with a faint yet sweet smell.

It was always there, in the back of his mind, but it never manifested enough for him to realise its significance.

After weeks of this, Jimin finally plucks up the courage to go ask you out.

However, his plans get thrown out of the window as soon as he sets foot in your shop.

He gets fully smacked in the face with the strangely sweet smell, and instantly knows what it means for him.

In fact, he gets hit so hard that he zones out for a good few minutes.

He manages to come to his senses (finally) only to find you, very close to him, asking if he’s alright.

Naturally he jumps a bit, and blushes bright red when he realises just how close he is to you.

It’s then that he remembers the reason why he came into your shop.

He tries to ask you out in a cool and confident manner, but he’s so shy around you.

When he finally asks you out, you instantly say yes - how could you resist that shy little smile?

Like Seokjin, Jimin tries to act very gentlemanly, even going as far as to bring you roses on your first date.

He continues this for the whole night, insisting that he walks you back to your flat.

It’s there on your doorstep, under a clear and starry sky, that you have your first kiss with him.

You’d been together for about three months when you discover that he’s a werewolf - completely by accident.

You wanted to surprise him after he complained about his long and tiresome week.

However, when you opened the door, you were horrified to see a wolf in Jimin’s living room.

Naturally you scream, and turn tail back to your flat as fast as possible.

It’s not until a couple of weeks later that Jimin can bring himself to see you again.

You find him nervously waiting outside your door, and you drag him inside, angrily demanding an explanation to the wolf scenario.

He comes clean instantly, taking you through his past and his current werewolf life.

As soon as you see how scared and vulnerable he looks, you can’t help but kiss him, cutting him off in the middle of an apology.

He instantly relaxes, realising that you accept and love him just as much as before.

Since his explanation, your relationship has become both more comfortable and more physical - you even manage to help Jimin with his struggles about toxic masculinity.

You bring out the best in each other, and your relationship will forever be the best outcome for the both of you.

Kim Taehyung (V):

Taehyung first met you at an art and photography exhibition.

He was simply walking around, enjoying all the visual displays, when he suddenly became aware of your scent - and instantly his vision zeros in on you.

As he sees you leave, he panics. Not knowing what else to do, he decides to follow you.

After a few streets, he turns the corner, only to be pushed into the wall and you appear very close to his face.

“Who the hell are you? And why are you following me?”

Like Namjoon, Taehyung is extremely shy in front of you.

Luckily for him though, he manages to create an excuse about seeing you taking pictures and your shared interest in photography.

After you decide it’s safe to let your guard down, you quickly become fast friends with Taehyung.

The lines in your relationship have been blurred since day one - you’re always latched onto each other.

Platonic dates are a must in your friendship - however, you are the only two people who see as truly platonic.

Oh how oblivious the two of you are.

Eventually the Pack get fed up, and set up a real romantic date for you two.

Taehyung picks up on it quickly, and after a lot of blushing and stuttering, finally asks you out.

You two are seen as the classic ‘artsy’ couple - you both have countless photos (mainly Polaroids) of the other, and you have an endless collection of museum/exhibition tickets.

The first night Taehyung sleeps at your flat is, unfortunately, the night of the full moon.

Taehyung was simply too excited to realise beforehand.

In the middle of the night you jolt awake to the sounds of crashing coming from your kitchen.

You hesitantly head towards the noise and get the fright of your life - Taehyung, in wolf form, is sitting in the middle of your kitchen floor.

He obviously can’t calm you down and explain that it’s him, but as you look closer, you recognise his eyes (and finally stop screaming).

The next day comes with a very long and very awkward explanation.

And yet, even though you now know he’s a werewolf, you realise you will love him no matter what.

You instantly tell him and he’s just so relieved to hear that he’s not going to lose you.

Since then, the two of you have continued to make some of the cutest and happiest memories.

The best ones always come from when the two of you are just together, both feeling safe and warm as Taehyung lies in your arms and scents you.

Jeon Jungkook (Jungkook):

Jungkook first smells you while he’s walking home.

He’d been out all night running in wolf form, and it was now the early hours of the morning.

He finds the source of the smell (you) easily, but can’t understand why you smell so much stronger and sweeter than other humans.

He simply watches you from a distance, as you continue drawing in your notebook and don’t even look up once.

Some time later, you decide to get up and head home, and only then does Jungkook continue walking home - just with a whole new set of thoughts in his head.

As soon as he enters their home, the other Pack members immediately notice a change in the youngest werewolf.

When they ask what happened, he comes clean straight away, and admits that he met a human who smelled unnaturally strong and sweet.

They sit him down and make him read a passage from one of the Mage’s books about werewolf nature - a passage about soulmates.

Jungkook gets so shy and flustered just reading about it, but he can’t fight the urge to see you again.

He doesn’t run into you for another week, despite taking the same path at the same time every day.

At the end of the week, just when Jungkook is beginning to slip into despair, he sees you again.

Same time, same place, same scenario - different outcome.

This time, Jungkook doesn’t shy away, but goes straight up to you and strikes up a conversation.

Specifically, he asks what you’re drawing.

You decide to show him, albeit shyly, your drawing.

As fate would have it, the drawing is of him - in wolf form.

It turns out that you had seen him last week running in his wolf form, and he had inspired you so much that you kept drawing into the early hours of the morning.

Since it’s so early and so empty, he decides to trust his instincts and asks if he can show you something.

He gets up and shifts into his wolf form, right there in front of you.

Naturally you’re a bit shocked, but you quickly recognise him as the wolf from last week.

The two of you spend the rest of the morning, and the following day, curled up next to each other like a pair of kittens.

After that, you take him so many places - he’s not as familiar with the city as his Pack - and love nothing more than watching his eyes light up with each new encounter.

Your relationship is centered around mutual trust, and also the desire to experience the joys and wonders of life.

Jung Hoseok (J-Hope):

Jin | Suga | J-Hope | RM | Jimin | V | Jungkook

Hoseok is Bangtan’s gambler, using his time to play the game and win as much money as possible. Hoseok knows the game better than anyone, and never loses. At the beginning of Bangtan, Hoseok used to cheat using extra cards and weighted dice, just to guarantee a win. But now, Hoseok’s skill has grown just as much as the gang’s notoriety. He is known as ‘the master of the cards’ for his talent for success at the table.

Hoseok’s role in Bangtan is to manage the finances, whether they are in the form of coins, chips, or numbers on a computer screen. He always keep tabs on the stock markets, and is well-practiced on laundering money, always covering any trace of the gang’s presence. Anybody who tried to follow the money would only reach dead ends and cold leads. 

As Bangtan’s gambler, Hoseok is the expert on probability and statistics. He can deduce the outcome of most scenarios, and is essential when planning heists. He always works very closely with Namjoon to plan their missions, then teaming up with Yoongi to erase the group’s involvement with any dirty money. He always manages to see through people’s bluffs and facades, never letting charming smiles or seductive words hinder his performance. Hence why he is so notorious among the gambling communities - for his clear head, his unbreakable focus and his seemingly-psychic skill for the game.
