But I think what is kind of nice about Shauna and Lottie's relationship is that even though they both come from a different vein, I think they have this somewhat understanding of the wilderness's power. I think they like being stuck in the wilderness for different reasons, so they, weirdly enough, have each other's backs. There's like this weird understanding, and, like, approval that they have each other's backs and so it's been fun to be able to play these, like, glances and these little eye contacts from across the room. The second Lottie and Shauna made eye contact in the vote for Coach Ben, it was over. They both realized with each other, they had absolute power. Sure, Shauna knows it’s because of Lottie’s influence and Lottie knows it’s because of Shauna’s connection to the wilderness, but it doesn’t matter.

Shauna tells Lottie how to vote, half of them switch sides without question. Lottie says Shauna is the new leader, everyone follows. Lottie ruins their chance of survival by killing Edwin, Shauna ensures she faces no consequences. Shauna didn’t want to leave, Lottie decides to stay, so Shauna makes them all stay. Lottie says they should hunt, Shauna makes them hunt.

Shauna counts down to Mari’s death, and when she’s stopped? Lottie fucking picks up where she left off.

Yellowjackets is pretty heavy-handed in showing Shauna as the first to comfort others in season 1. Shes the first to comfort not just Jackie but Tai, Javi, Mari, Lottie, like, it's not subtle. This is not the story of someone who never truly cared. If anything, it's the story of someone who cared too much. Shauna cared so deeply and never let herself believe she was cared for in return, always doing what the others couldn't because someone had to, and it broke her. This is about how villains can be made of people who had the potential for incredible goodness, under the right circumstances, because evil isn't something humans are, it's something we do.
