“The longing to touch/be touched. I feel gratitude when I touch someone—as well as affection etc. The person has allowed me proof that I have a body—and that there are bodies in the world.”
— Susan Sontag, from a diary entry featured in As Consciousness Is Harnessed To Flesh: Journals & Notebooks, 1964 - 1980 (via violentwavesofemotion)

Hey, so--we cooled your boyfriend down to a hundredth of a kelvin above absolute zero. Yeah, it was so cold that all of the chemical reactions in his body ceased. Sorry. We, uh, yeah, we used him as a dielectric material in a tiny qubit. And then we quantum-entangled him with another qubit, just to see if we could. Sorry. Yeah, anyway, we thawed him out after two weeks and apparently he's doing fine now. Didn't really teach us anything about how quantum processes work in biological systems, but it sure was, uh, cool. If you'll pardon the pun.

Magic isn’t just Cool Weird Stuff. It tends to follow principles like
The human mind, or will, being able to control nature. Belief having power over the world.
Symbolism having real effects; the laws of sympathy and contagion. E.g. beets being medicinal for heart disease because they look like hearts, or the position of the sun meaning something about human feelings because the arrangement of stars near it reminded people of a warrior or a fish or whatever.
(Alchemy was not magic, it was an early form of science even though it got a lot of stuff wrong.. Practitioners disguised their knowledge in extremely obscure symbolism to hide it from the less knowledgeable and to make themselves seem cooler, but the actual knowledge was pretty mundane if weird.)

I love the way they marketed this at swingers — very 70s, sigh…
It’s called a Sactional [sic] now — I’ve got a 5-piece one. It’s not cheap, but it works well and the connections are solid.

You pull out your phone for a second to add something to your grocery list, and when you look up seven years have passed and you’re in the middle of a dark forest with a dead battery.
i feel like the fae as traditionally depicted are less likely to make you feel horny and more likely to make you feel like you've interacted with a silicon valley nerd who just sold you a piece of technology that doesnt really work.
fae tricksters would love popup ads with autoplay video and banners that take up the bottom third of the screen cursed data entry fields that tell you that you entered the information wrong because you havent finished typing it yet. that tablet you bought is going to be useless in 18 months when we stop pushing updates to it haha hoho hee hee.
