It is incredibly important to train yourself to have your first instinct be to look something up.
Don't know how to do something? Look it up.
See a piece of news mentioned on social media? Look it up.
Not sure if something is making it to the broader public consciousness, either because you don't see it much or you see people saying nobody is talking about it? Look it up.
Don't know what a word means? Look it up.
It will make you a better reader and a better writer, but it will also just make you more equipped to cope with the world.
So often, I see people talking about something as though it is the first time anyone has ever acknowledged it, when I've been reading reports about it on the news for months or years. Or I see someone totally misinterpreting an argument because they clearly don't know what a word means--or, on the other hand, making an argument that doesn't make sense because they aren't using words the right way.
Look things up! Check the news (the real news, not random people on social media)! Do your research! You (and the world) will be better for it.

do you guys think jeremy was excited to take over jillian’s bedroom for the summer and finally have a place with the girls, but when jean needed a place to stay jeremy gave it to him, gave him the only thing jeremy has ever wanted for himself, and sacrificed himself to a summer sleeping on a couch?
except instead jean put two beds in the room and explicitly told jeremy he was wanted in his space and underfoot
the sunshine court reread continues to unravel me

I know trauma doesn’t work like this. I know “fair” doesn’t work like this. But I have siblings, so you know if you have siblings the rules bend a little. You spend years measuring fair so it’s just right. And when I read people’s blogs talking about Aaron Minyard, when I read fanfiction with him in it, I often think that it’s just not fair.
Andrew is one of my favorite characters, but he gets so much grace compared to Aaron. Andrew Minyard has an incredibly black and white sense of morality. He has a very limited range in the means of which he can show he cares. He has extremely rigid boundaries. Yes, this is due to horrible trauma.
No, it does not mean the rest of the world and everyone in it are required to bend to his rigid worldview.
Andrew judges others quickly and concretely by his very specific view on morality and right and wrong, he pushes them into boxes, decides their motivations and desires.
He shows care in his very specific manner, and doesn’t just not care if others don’t feel his care, but also doesn’t care if the way he shows his care hurts others, because clearly they just don’t know what’s good for them.
He has extremely rigid boundaries but tramples on others if it doesn’t fit within his worldview, his needs, or his desires.
It seems like Aaron and even Kevin are mainly demonized for the fact that they aren’t perfect by Andrew Minyard standards. For the fact that their actions caused or influenced by trauma conflict with Andrew’s or upset Andrew or anger/annoy Andrew.
Neil is very special in the way that he fits perfectly with Andrew, wants the same things, can live and love and feel loved how Andrew does. But that is just not the case for the majority of people. And Andrew isn’t right or in the right all the time just because he’s the main character’s love interest.
I’m not saying Andrew is a bad person. I heavily relate to him and love him as a character. I’m like him in many ways. But it just goes back in my mind to a long held sense of what’s fair. And it isn’t fair that other characters face such intense criticism and harsh analysis when Andrew is let off the hook for essentially anything. Why does the morality and understanding of every single character get to be based around Andrew Minyard?

I think this fandom talks very little about the fact that the first time Kevin properly stood up to Riko after leaving the Nest was when Riko tried to hit Neil after Kathy's interview
This man was probably quite literally scared for his life, had cowered the moment Riko went after him in the backstage and would have letted Riko hit him with no problem
Still, the moment Riko tried to hit Neil, Kevin immediately went out there and FUCKING GRABBED RIKO'S ARM
He wasn't willing to stand up for himself, but he PHYSICALLY STOPPED RIKO FROM HITTING NEIL (and took a hit himself for it)
(We all know Riko was FUMING after this interview, but I am sure that having his first ever punching bag, someone he quite literally treated as and considered a pet, grabbing him so that he wouldnt be able to hit someone else was probably one of the things that made Riko fume the most)
But yeah, by all means, Kevin definitely doesn't care about anyone but himself
Sure 👍

Neil is the guy everyone thinks is just a bit dysfunctional but is actually a fucking freak and batshit crazy
Andrew is the guy everyone thinks is a freak and batshit crazy but is actually just a bit dysfunctional
Kevin is the guy that unfortunately deals w both of them anyway

ideal living situation is what i call the 'sitcom special' : having all your closest friends live in the same apartment building or neighborhood where you each have your own space but can wander in and out of eachothers homes at will, seemingly always welcome and never at bad times. and also all of you only have jobs when its important to the plot.
