any day when you can show unreturnable kindness to something in its last moments isn't entirely fucked

sat down to be productive this afternoon, and almost immediately figured out I had fucked up something pretty big a month ago without realizing it. it is fixable, but not today, and extremely frustrating. then out my window I saw a dying polyphemus moth fluttering frantically on the driveway, and then grow still.

they're big, and their mouths are vestigial, so they only live about a week as moths. it went still on its back, so I went outside and flipped it over. its thorax was still moving a little bit. I don't know if moths can be comfortable but maybe that's more comfortable for it.

all of which is to say, the vibes today are simply fucked.

the gamera movies have so far been slightly more invested in their writing than the toho kaiju movies, and gyaos is really cool whenever the characters talk about him, but then he pops on screen and

i just lose it. they did a close up on his face and mouth when he first appeared and i about swallowed my tongue laughing

i would say that the goofiness of the monster suit designs is an intentional move to keep the movie light in tone, but uh gyaos shoves a cowardly reported straight down his throat and the plot is about the wrangle between highway engineers and villagers resisting eminent domain, so i don't think that's it, exactly. i'm really curious what japanese audiences of the 60s made of these

see it's stuff like this that makes interpreting what rgg thinks kiryu's sexuality even is so difficult to parse. this doesn't happen to the other protagonists
