Imagine if the Bad Batch finale was 99 minutes long

when I see something dated 2019 I think “oh that’s not too long ago” and then I remember that 2019 was not only five years ago but those five years have somehow contained several lifetimes

It is *checks watch* 3 days until the Bad Batch finale and I am again asking why bother showing us that Crosshair scooped up Omega's satchel of 30k credits in the escape from Lau if we were not going to get a fantastic scene of one of them supplying surprise funds for an ill-advised adventure.

Having great fun writing about s1-2 Tech recording everything and s3 Crosshair being repeatedly emotionally sucker-punched by it.
(with an offer like that, etc etc)

"why doesn't this thing in a movie/book/tv show happen exactly like it would in real life" is the most brain dead criticism the internet has to offer, and yet I see it EVERYWHERE.

"I did have plans for CT-9904, despite his resistance to reeducation, but I am willing to make a few sacrifices if your misbehavior continues."
-episode 1 things on Poe's mind ahead of the finale
man I wish we knew how much time passes between e1 and e3.

I'm less ferally dedicated to the last point (but do think it makes for an interesting exercise watching 11 thinking about the possibility) as the first two but it spawned from the conviction that the only way to do such a reveal *well* at the very last minute is if he's already broken free.
But I also have a LOT of thoughts about how strategically the Pabu raid was pulled off and Omega's surrender forced- and how Pabu got out of it with an almost inconceivably small amount of destruction..
Like, okay, here's the thing.
We spend an entire sequence with Phee on a random moon where CX-2 sneaks onto her ship, steals data, stares at her, then sneaks off. None of that scene was necessary, at all. It could have been handled in his conversation with Hemlock the same way the interaction with Cid was.
It wasn't. We see Phee's ship for the first time, we listen to her argue with Mel, we see her have a security measure that CX-2 actually trips (to his obvious annoyance), watch her realize CX-2 is there (though she doesn't catch him). And then rather than leave, he stays to watch her go.
This whole scene is over 3 minutes. That's a big piece when the entire episode is 20m long. Why is this here?
It's not because CX-2 is no one. If he was, this scene wouldn't be here.

Kind of obsessed with this quote from Henry Jackman, the composer for Winter Soldier, about writing the Winter Soldier theme:
“Because there’s a human element to the Winter Soldier that gets revealed toward the end of the film, the Winter Soldier starts off unrelenting and brutal and mechanized and almost Terminator like but the difference between The Winter Soldier and Terminator is that somewhere behind the wires and all the mechanization is a character that we know and we care about and that more importantly, Cap knows about and it’s very painful to him. So one of the things I ended up doing with the Winter Soldier was I spent literally ten days just on production with vocals because I wanted to get the sensation of a human trapped inside machinery. So I did a lot of vocal recordings and then processed the living hell out of them to get these tortured, time-stretched human cries of someone who has been so processed that it’s become mechanized at the same time but you can still hear the human in there.”

There was no reason to deviate from the replaceable identity-erased reg who dies before he talks, rinse repeat string of terrifyingly competent villains - and like, that's horrifying enough! The constant question of just how many are there, killing them barely even matters! - if CX-2 specifically isn't significant in a whole new way.
And then you throw all the cute little wink nod animation moments in there?
The fucking winter soldier vibes of the whole waterfall fight??
Those are Choices.
"You had your chance to be one of us" come ON.
Like, okay, here's the thing.

at this point I wouldn't rule out that Omega is going to be part of the cavalry rescuing the rest of CF99 😂
The Cavalry Has Arrived
Tumblr media
Many of us (including me) believed that the title refers to CF99‘s arrival at Tantiss and the rescue of Omega.
But what if…
What if the analogy is different?
What if it refers to exernals that are normally not a regular part of the show who help rescue someone who is part of the show and then get their own sequel.
Exernals as in Rex, Howzer, Gregor, maybe even Wolffe and Cody (instead of CF99).
Rescuing Omega (instead of Echo).
Setting up The Clone Rebellion sequel (instead of The Bad Batch).
And transferring Echo from the show to the sequel, giving him a new look. Like last time.

Happy Friday, TBB fanmily!
Excuse the wippery but I just love them taking caring of each other. I want to share it while it’s still baking so I’ll be held accountable to try to finish it this weekend 😄
Ficlet synopsis below
Tech: Crosshair, please hold still.
Crosshair: Speak for yourself.
Tech tends a deep wound in Crosshair’s forearm after a nearly-disastrous mission to destroy a shield generator. Crosshair was so focused down range in his brothers, that he didn’t notice the commando droid sneaking up in him until it was too late to dodge it completely. Tech asks Crosshair to keep still, but it’s actually Tech who is trembling because he’s so worried about Crosshair. 💗

so sad that people got sick of "doomed by the narrative" and decided it was cringe, because fate and free will in fiction has been a major interest of mine for like eight years, but alas so it goes. anything that gets popular is destined to become reviled in short order. it's like some sort of unstoppable, uncompassionate, avaricious cycle of rising and falling and rising again. like whatever happens, no matter the intentions, it will always result in the same tragic ending. you could almost say it was d

appreciation post for the Bad Batch writers leaving Batcher to live her best civilian life on Pabu so we don't have to dread her protective instincts granting her an untimely end back at Tantiss
Tumblr media
At the risk of going full clown hours though, this is one of those things I took to signal we'll get a fairly happy ending and a return to Pabu (even if not permanently?). Can't just leave her forgotten and separated with no further screen time, considering how present she was until ep 12.
Similarly, as things that started forming up my optimistic finale expectations early- episode 10. Sad and dark as it was, it sort of... raised the stakes *too* high? Can't not save the literal baby.
Anyway I miss Batcher though and I look forward to the very nice everything is fine now we're all together in our beach attire sipping fancy drinks and lounging with our emotional support dog epilogue please and thank you.
