Thinking about Timothy gutterson and I have another fave character (Amos Burton from the expanse) who has a canon characteristic that also seems somewhat appropriate for Tim.
Basically Amos has been through some shit that has led him to become a sort of sociopath. He would probably say he is one, but there are some aspects of his character that don’t fit it in my mind. However, he does struggle to distinguish between right and wrong. So he basically finds a person he trusts and respects and then follows their orders, trusting that they are better equipped to make good choices.
Tim I think has a pretty strong sense of right and wrong (or he couldn’t do his job), but I think a combo of CPTSD from childhood issues and PTSD from the military have probably also led him to not engaging with his own thought processes in much a meaningful way. I think Tim likes being told what to do (yeah, he’s a good dog!!) because it lets him off the hook for having to examine his own motives. He goes from one highly structured rule focused environment to another (how I imagine his father was, then the military, then the Marshals). In each case there’s a clear hierarchy, a clear set of expectations.
But I also don’t think that Tim was good at living up to his family’s expectations (given his homocidal comments about his dad). And he kind of plays that pattern out as a Marshal—he toes the line in several ways (never as blatantly as Raylan, who is LOUD about his issues, while Tim is so so quiet about his). But almost every time he bends the rules, it’s for Raylan in one way or another. Because he respects and trusts Raylan (although even he seems a little confounded as to WHY), so when what Raylan needs goes against the rules or the hierarchy, Tim can see his way to making that be a “good” choice.
Idk this was clearer in my head but basically I think Tim likes being told what to do so long as he gets to choose who is telling him. And he chooses Raylan every. Single. Time.
#tim gutterson talk?? *checks calendar* is it christmas???#*need for full Justified rewatch grows stronger*#have not watched Expanse but I am chewing on this comparison vs book Amos#Tim is such a subtly fascinating character I love him your honor#Justified

if you're writing and find yourself thinking 'this is too weird/gross/offputting/esoteric/ambitious/catered to my specific interests + sure to push away a broader audience' that is the devil speaking and it is a lie. you are already firmly on the right path and you need to double down

Caged Wings Had this idea in my head for a while now. Finally gave it a go. Though my original idea was of a caged tiger, it somehow became birds as I sketched. Maybe I'll make another version with a tiger in the future~ Here's a quick timelapse. The full hours long 6 recording sessions for this painting, plus HD image and PSD file will be DMed on Patreon.com/Yuumei on April 5th.

I adore the commitment Andor showed, particularly in the final episode, to making K2SO an absolute horror movie monster. Just the heavy, steady footsteps as he walks down the dark hall with glowing eyes in a dark, skull-like head while he uses your superior’s corpse as a human shield. Cinema.

reading the collider piece about bix and cassian’s relationship and god i’m so torn. because on one hand i find this to be sweet, but on another it reinforces my main criticism of the second season—which is that bix only exists to be cassian’s partner and tragic backstory. in season one we get a glimpse into her life as a skilled mechanic and black market trader, but by season two we have a scene of vel telling her she’s a distraction to her much more important and useful boyfriend. my god.

#I just think if you're going to try and sell this idea in the end of the quote#Maybe don't spend the episodes leading up to the big dramatic e9 Decision showing... Wilmon as his big connection to the past actually?#Eternally filed under “9 eps/3 arcs were just not enough time to do what the story wanted to do with Bix”#andor#andor season 2#Sweet idea; probably compelling in a longer series vision; very flat in the execution (to me)#andor critical
