Doctor vs Doctor: The Final Round
Time to choose the champion! Am I surprised by our two contenders? A bit. But they're both amazing, so I probably shouldn't be. And now, you must choose between them. Mwahaha.

It’s not even just Belinda. This entire era has been weirdly pushy on enforcing motherhood as the purpose of women
Donna is confirmed to have settled down and had a child as soon as she left the doctor
Ruby is only 19 and from the very beginning she’s in a maternal role. She looks after the children Carla fosters. In space babies she immediately assumes a maternal role to look after the children.
Anita was sad and lonely and now she’s happy and pregnant (from an accidental pregnancy, isn’t she so glad that happened without her deciding to do it!)
The ranis motivation is grief about her infertility, and her plan is to create loads of new time lord children. One of her incarnations describes herself as the mother of the other.
This entire two series arc has been building up to the statement that women should be mothers, and would be so much happier if they were mothers. Whether they want it or not. When it happens they’ll realise it’s what they wanted the whole time. It’s gross and I think one of the most misogynistic plots from a modern show I’ve seen.

so the funny thing is. is that fifteen’s final moments of looking up at joy the star and his final words being “it has been a joy.” aka what i would consider to be the only wholesale good moment in the entire episode. was based entirely on a premise set up by steven moffat.

I simply dont have much interest in measuring which dr who writerman is the most misogynistic. The problem has a solution and it’s not saying Steven Moffat dr who was Woke Actually it’s putting a woman at the helm of this show.

I’ve had a day to think about The Interstellar Song contest and like, yeah, I think I’m out of love with NewWho.
This episode was scripted and filmed well before the current genocide in Gaza began, and I think any accusations toward RTD saying anything to the contrary are people trying to anchor and extrapolate on their *VALID* frustrations with the extremely weird messaging of this episode. Nevertheless, we are absolutely in a massive geopolitical moment where we can take a look at narratives that ask “what if a member of a violently oppressed out group tried to retaliate with sectarian violence?” and demand better answers than “boy, that would be crazy.” It wasn’t good when the Zygon two-parter did it. It wasn’t good here. It certainly sucked shit to see the Doctor textually torturing a genocide victim, a moment that itself was met with a narrative shrug and a frown. Noo Doctor that’s rude :/
I’ve seen some people suggest that the frustrating weightlessness of this episode’s messaging was, like, the point? But, if that’s the case (and I really think it isn’t), for God’s sake it is on Juno Dawson and RTD to provide a thematically coherent narrative.
Season 2 insists on pointing at social ills— inceldom, the rising tide of conspiratorial thinking— and rewarding itself for calling them bad. Okay. Great. We don’t need to sit here and discuss “the male loneliness epidemic” or give conspiracy theorists the time of fucking day but if you are going to insist on playing in this sandbox, especially if you are invoking GENOCIDE, then you are going to need to have something to say about it. You are going to have to do more than just call it bad. It’s bland. It’s lazy. It is not entertaining to point to the disaffected youth and correctly name them disaffected if there is nothing else you aim to say.
I thank RTD for his invaluable contributions to television and the Doctor Who project, but this project is not serving its intended purpose if not championing at least SOME SORT of thoughtful dialogue.
I won’t stop watching because of course not. This blog is practically a dedicated Doctor Who blog at this point. I’m not making any concessions or apologies that I am hanging out while my Favorite Thing goes through another “dogshit neoliberalism” moment. Doctor Who is bigger than RTD, Moffat, or Chibnall. But we’ve hit an inflection point where there is this very weird taste in my mouth and we’re really just going through the motions here. I will find it hard to be interested until we get some true new blood in here. It’s no coincidence to me that The Story and the Engine has been the best thing in this season so far. Like what do you mean the podcast host with an entirely incoherent ideology is one of the Big Bads next week. Shut the fuck up lol
RTD— thank you. Get out.

Who is your favourite companion?
Tumblr media
TOURNAMENT MASTERPOST
Propaganda
Clara Oswald
No one is doing it like Clara Oswald. She’s bisexual, she’s a control freak, she’s made out with Jane Austen, she was the Doctor (and she was good at it). She looks like the normal one any time she’s standing next to twelve, but when you see her interact with humans on her own you realize how bad she is at acting like a normal person. Steven Moffat once said she’s what the Doctor would be like if they were a 20 something human woman stuck on earth. She is such an incredible enigma of compassion and bravery and ego. If she doesn’t make it to at least the top five then what are we even doing here. (@tardis-technician )
Jamie McCrimmon
He's the longest running companion (113 episodes!), the original companion with romantic tension with the Doctor, loyal as can be, on the same footing with the doctor despite being an 18th century highlander, he wears a kilt in space, and he was so devoted to the Doctor that he had to be forced away and have his memory erased, and the Doctor had to be grounded, for his run to end. Also really just watch a video of them they're so gay
What can I even say. It's Jamie Mccrimmon. He never would have chosen to leave the doctor, he's the doctor's most loyal companion. He's so Scottish and I love it! Always wears his kilt, gets excited when he hears bagpipe music and sees the Scottish Highlands on the Tardis screen, speaks Gàidhlig, what's not to love. (@gothicacetheatrekid )
Jamie is the longest running companion in all of Doctor Who. He is arguably the doctor’s first best friend and has been haunting the narrative ever since his departure in 1969 (even in 2024 “Boom” he is referenced!! The 10th doctor uses his name in s2e2, and the doctor-turned-master in s13 plays the skyeboat song, which only became a huge part of Doctor who because of Jamie, who was a Jacobite! Several classic doctors meet/reference Jamie in tv and extended universe media, and if you’re an I, TARDIS fan you’ll find Jamie’s entry is the only one where it’s explicitly referenced that Doctor - and the TARDIS! - loved him). He is a very complex character, who might be dismissed but is much more intelligent than he is given credit for. He’s brave and kind. He has a huge fan theory that gained enough traction to become canon through tv stories and audios - “s6b” - in which he works with the Doctor under time lord supervision. He came into the show at its most crucial watershed, the first regeneration, and impacted so much of what we consider core to doctor who today through his friendship with the second doctor. He’s a companion from the past who is quick to learn and adapt, and was the first companion who wanted to join the tardis AND never wanted to leave, until he was forcibly removed. Jamie was with the doctor for pretty much his whole second body, and Doctor who would not be what it is today without Jamie.

Crazy how, because Matt Lucas wanted to come back to dr who after his Christmas special bit role, there’s a full season of the show where the doctor has an honest-to-god Henchman on top of his usual companion. And it rules. Like Nardole is NOT a character who’s supposed to be working with the good guys he is such an “on it boss” little guy who’s serving the morally dubious at best. Me when I inherit a henchman after my girlboss wife dies

the third doctor era is genuinely embarrassing for doctor who as a whole, because it quite often manages to land interesting political stories which subsequent eras have completely failed to deliver on. there's environmental messaging in the third doctor era more effective than certain modern doctor who stories i don't care to name.

the totally bananas thing about rose’s legacy in season 3 is that they beat you and martha over the head with it constantly but from martha’s perspective rose was literally just some girl who had enough of seeing the universe and went home. like. that’s it!!!! all the doctor ever tells her is that he had this friend, this companion, and she’s gone now but she’s safe, she’s happy, she’s with her family. nothing else. martha’s getting treated like dirt not because the doctor is grieving the permanent loss of someone vital to him, but because he’s still miffed his ex-girlfriend chucked him. THATS HER PERSPECTIVE!!!!!!!!! she has no idea what he’s going through but it’s not her fault because he literally just DOESNT TELL HER. and it’s the gallifrey thing all over again, the doctor lying because he likes it, and whats doubly annoying is that if the doctor HAD just told her the truth instead of flirting with her and kissing her and inviting her to share his bed, then martha could’ve rightfully gone “woah. yeah. i don’t need to get involved in this” but instead he keeps playing seduction cat and mouse with her and getting snappy when she engages right back. as if it’s her fault! he made this problem and he did it on purpose!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no i dont think that the master should turn good for the doctor i think that the doctor should embrace being a bad person to make out with the master more in fact i want the master to kidnap the doctor and keep him in a box and make him attend evil school which he passes with flying colors (he hardly even has to try he’s a natural) and they go around terrorizing innocent people across time and space and the doctor frets about his morality while doing very little to actually stop the master
