I don't believe in the "Jax is an NPC" theory but I like the implication that if it is true, then 3 of the main ships of Pomni are all with NPCs

I just read the book that inspired TADC, and I have some theories.
I’m not the best at explaining things, but for those who don’t know, the book’s called: “I have no mouth and I must scream”, and it’s a story that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where there are 5 people left of the human race and they have been trapped inside a sentient ai machine who has been torturing them for years and will do so for eternity.
The book is pretty violent and vulgar, and deals with heavy themes such as… uhh… unaliving yourself…. So it’s definitely not for everyone.
But honestly, I loved it so much. It’s very dark but I am a sucker for angst/whump stuff. I adore the writing style. However, after reading, I am honestly very worried about the TADC characters now. Obviously TADC has a wayyy different tone than the book, and I know it was only INSPIRED, and not the same story, but there are some overall themes in the story that I can see happening in TADC.
The story depicts the AI as this entity of pure rage and hatred wanting to endlessly torture the humans. In comparison to TADC, Caine is nothing like this, Caine makes adventures with good intentions, what’s what he was designed for, but it makes me question his morals.
All of Caine’s adventures involve some sort of torment. This is reflected greatly in contrast to the crew’s adventure suggestions. Caine is worried at the idea that his adventures aren’t enjoyable, but above all he is puzzled as to why his adventures of torment aren’t enjoyable to the players. That’s because it goes against his programming. He is designed to create adventures that go along a certain algorithm, but that algorithm was built on an odd sense of morals. So what Caine thinks is good, isn’t.
Caine seems to be oblivious, surely he wouldn’t purposefully torment the humans like in the book. But there are a few details in the show that are hinting towards Caine getting more twisted.
The major point being this moment:
“The only thing holding Caine back is the fact that he likes us”
Caine likes them, but what do you think would happen is he hated them? Like in the book?
Caine seems to be getting more frustrated with the crew, but it’s played off as a punchline in the episodes.
There are a couple more examples I could add like Caine glitching out in two different episodes related to his purpose, but it’s 1am in the morning and I’m still ranting about this.
Basically, I strongly believe the show is setting up Caine absolutely to crack. Expecially considering the inspiration.
I’ll probably edit this a bunch in the morning but I wanted to rant about it and spark up some discussion about possible parallels to the inspiration.
Oh! Before I go, I wanna mention there was one human left at the end, and I was curious of the thought of someone being left behind if/when the crew escapes the computer. Possibly Jax? I can see that happening as a self-sacrifice to save others. It could be a bittersweet end to his arc and character development.
