I don't know what paddington is doing on that list, but it made me think of the time someone drew a picture of the queen with paddington after she died, and we had scores of people losing their minds at the idea that paddington bear wasn't the same kind of communist as them

“autism wouldn’t have been difficult before capitalism” “nothing that caused me burnout existed before industrialization” well what if your boots feel weird against your skin. and your cape is itchy and too heavy. and your brooch keeps making an annoying sound everytime you move and this party is too loud and you’re hungry and there’s pigeon stew but you can’t stand the texture of pigeon so you ate some olives and now your hands feel oily and gross and you drank a little bit too much wine (bc there’s no clear water. also it was too bitter) so now your head hurts and you feel a little hot but not hot enough to take your cape off and you promised this time we leave when I asked, Aurelius! you promised! and don’t forget we still have a three hour ride back home you promised it’s not going to be like last time! or something of the sort.

one concept im super into is that like. being a vampire is hard. there are ways to make this easier, but those mostly involve joining a coven. so young vampires are vulnerable to being preyed on (ha!) by the coven system and locked into a society created by people older and richer and much better connected.
like. getting a job is hard bc your movement is restricted during the day. the covens have agreements in place with multiple people across multiple industries. they can help you get a job that is remote work or night shift, but you have to join the coven (agree to abide by their rules and participate in their conflicts with other covens) and also agree to give them ten percent of your earnings.
finding food (assuming you’re a moral person who doesn’t want to kill people) is hard. you can eat animals. you can attack people and feed on them without killing them, which is assault. you can try and buy donated human blood from hospitals. but guess who controls most of the black market human blood trade and doesn’t want to sell it to you at a fair price? it’s the covens! also, the covens have arrangements with people they drink from directly, so it’s not like they need the human blood, but being in control of the trade gives them a lot of power in the community.
a lot of times, your options as a vampire are: live in a beautiful, luxurious base where you get free food and accommodations, are able to get a job, have protection from hunters, and have people around that you can talk to, OR, live in poverty, isolation, and fear. covens as organized crime families where it’s really, really hard not to join one of them.

desperately need a dude i can nickname “sweet elf,” who hasn’t slept in 3 days, is vegetarian, translates plato for fun, got kicked out of oxford at the age of 18 for penning the first pro-atheism work in the english language and mailing it to every bishop in england, distributes political pamphlets in handmade hot air balloons, hallucinates from stress, plays with paper boats and rocks while declaring these to be serious forms of scientific experimentation, hangs out with lord byron, casually writes some of the greatest poetry in the english language but then threatens to quit constantly because he’s not famous yet, is convinced he is dying of consumption despite no proof, blows things up with gunpowder unprovoked, and is addicted to sailing as fast as possible while refusing to learn how to swim.

"There's no hope for the future." And that's how they felt during the Atomic Age, during the World Wars, during the Enlightenment Revolutions, during thr plagues, during the Viking raids, during the fall of Rome.
Yet, we persisted.

“…the neat sorting-out of books into age-groups, so dear to publishers, has only a very sketchy relation with the habits of any real readers. Those of us who are blamed when old for reading childish books were blamed when children for reading books too old for us. No reader worth his salt trots along in obedience to a time-table.”

"Life is do hard nowadays" - yes, but we still have it easier than generations of people before us. Humans have lived through world wars, plagues, that killed like half of the population in some places, famines, not to mention, that they didn't have the technology we have now, so their everyday lifes were much harder. Yet, so many of them endured and thrived, and continued the progress, so we could have what we have nowadays. Despite all the hardships, today's world is full of opportunities. I'm not telling you to just be strong and never complain on anything. I'm telling you not to wallow in self-pity and to appreciate the world previous generations have built for us. I'm telling you to take the opportunities most people before you didn't have and use them to create an even better world for the next generations. Think about it: how many of your ancestors could only dream of getting an education, having a high-paying job, sending their kids to school, travelling the world etc.? I don't want to sound like a boomer, saying "Today's youth have it easier than us, so they're lazy, spoiled brats!" (I'm 26 at the moment of writing this post, so I'm "today's youth", too). What I want to say is "Today's youth have it easier, than the previous generations and it's a good thing. That's what all the hard work of people before us was for. Let's continue this trend! Let's use today's opportunities to continue the progress and built an even better future for our kids, grandkids and next generations!". Appreciate the work people who lived before you had to put in to make your life better and continue this work to make it better for the ones who come after you.

when Brennan said "The first rule of existence is: as above, so below. People are fractal images of the universe. You are as we are. In the same way your heart feels and your mind thinks, you, mortal beings are the instrument by which the universe cares. If you choose to care, then the universe cares. If you don't, then it doesn't."
when Brennan said "It is a horrifying responsibility to think because things cannot remain the same, each and every one of us must shoulder some responsibility for how they will become different."
when Brennan said "Sometimes decisions are not difficult. Sometimes they are just hard."
when Brennan said "There is no moral. The Wolf eats you one day and until it does, the forest is beautiful."
when Brennan said "I always felt the fundamental substance of the universe is creation. None of this makes any sense, when you really break it down. It's like, none of this had to happen, but it's beautiful and art is the definition of 'this didn't have to happen, but it's beautiful.' [...] It resonates with the universe because the universe is consciousness playing with itself."

hey so last night i was looking for charming teddy bears, and what should have been a just and noble quest devolved into a horrible discovery:
for around 200 big ones, you can purchase a teddy bear with the body of a man and the eyes of a creature that knows it should not exist

Rewatching Psych (2006) right now and nine episodes in there's just NO PLOT. The whole show is just about an insane bisexual man with daddy issues and adhd solving crimes with his equally insane friends. It's just silly jokes and 2000s nostalgia. They don't make shows like this anymore

I’m sure someones already said this but I often see Tumblr described as a hellsite. This is fundamentally incorrect.
Tumblr is the faesite. Everybody is super confused and lost, you keep running into random places. Somehow you end up stuck there forever after interacting a couple of times. The people are all strange, everybody simultaneously seems to be from the future and the past as if time is meaningless.
