Week 14:purpose and structure of doc. film
I think the purpose of a documentary film in our English class is to give us a better understanding of different ways to use rhetoric in our work. To teach us of different ways to go about conveying a message to an audience. As previously done before, with the lit. review and genre analysis. A video brings in a new angle where rhetoric is often used, like in TV, or internet videos. Now in video form there are now many ways to go about sending a message in comparison to text or images. We have the access to show more diverse imagery, than a single image. An a more efficient way to deliver messages through showing and discussing within a video. Thus the way we structured our video to appeal to a viewing audience. The use of music was very important in our video, as it helps set a tone of both danger, dread and urgency. In order to invoke the viewer to want to take action against police brutality. Compiled along with statistics and delivering a message of what the audience can do to help create a solution.

Week 13: Platform for opinion piece
The genre I will be using will be a written essay arguing for a more scientific centered classroom curriculum. Rather than shy away from theories like evolution just to avoid clash with evolution critics, it should be discussed without any fear of repercussion and encourage critical thinking. While keeping ideas like creation outside of science classes. As stated previously the format I will use will be essay form.

Week 10: Group obstacle.
The main difficulties I expect in this group project is finding the time to work together. I find it hard that finding the time to all students getting together to work on the project on days that wouldn’t be class days normally.

Week 6- Research process.
Felix Ariel Leal
Starting the research process is always the hardest to me in my opinion. It is a hard notion to get around, knowing where to start out of the thousands of resources to look into. So a good place to start is google. The way I do it is do general research on my topic. Rather than go in looking for something specific I like to research my topic in general and see what kinds of information first pops up on google. Little by little I go into more in-depth once I get a better idea of what I'm looking for. Once I have a couple of resources I take quick a overview in order to judge if they hold up using the process of elimination. If they pass the initial criteria then I can start reading all the details a reasource has to offer.

Week 5: Lit. Review obstacles.
One of the many obstacles I believe will encounter along the way, will be the gathering of information. As Ms. Villa said before, as only as you have your topic research questions included, it is hard to get a failing grade. However that is not enough to be comfortable with. Knowing where to go and find research material to analyze has always been hard for me, trying to figure out how to start. What websites to go to and what to look for is always tough no matter how much time passes. And a big pet peeve of mine is those websites that want to charge you for the access to the journal you’re trying to read for the paper.

Week 4: The value of studying genres.
Felix A. Leal
Tumblr media
The value of studying a genre gives a writer not only the ability to read and examine a paper, but gives you the tools to analyze far beyond what is being said. You begin to examine not just the topics but also the method of the delivery, Who is writing/ speaking and what tools is the author using trying to convey his or her points across an audience. How is the information is being fed to an audience, who are the people an author is trying to reach and what may be its purpose. Being able to learn these tools allows us to become aware of who is this information coming from rather than accepting information at face value and analyzing how the information is being exposed and what methods are being used like typography, iconography and orally, which gives us a deeper understanding of the world around us.
In conclusion the rhetorical device I used to come to my conclusion is Logos. It would be logical to think that anyone who wishes to become a better writer and consumer of information, would be useful to learn about genre analyzing to better digest the information being given.

Week 2: Typographic analysis.
Felix A. Leal
Genre:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/23/evolution-in-texas-schools_n_4330218.html
The typographic example being used is this article by the Huffington post. It includes minor iconography elements however it’s main structure is typographic.
Purpose:The purpose of this article is to bring awareness of the concerns many science educators have on the debate of evolution being thought on schools around Texas.  "Everyone should take a moment and think what it will mean to raise a generation of students who might believe that it is reasonable to think for a moment that the Earth might be 10,000 years old."
Audience:As for the audience this article is clearly aimed at those who are on the side of teaching evolution in schools. The article brings in the thoughts of Bill Nye who is a well knows science communicator and a strong proponent of evolution and it being taught on schools. Another reason is the fact that there is a lack of representation from the proponents of creationism, making the focus mainly on those who propose evolution in schools.
Ethos:The way this article establishes its credibility aside from being from the Huffington Post, which is an established news website, is by placing Bill Nye’s name on its title. By showing who is featured prominently on the article it is a way to bring in readers who are aware of who Bill Nye is and his work. His many years working as a science communicator brings in the credibility the article needs by having Bill voice his opinions on the matter of scientific teachings being pushed out of science classrooms and replaced by creationism.
Logos:The evidence brought forth by the article is a variety of links directing the reader to other articles which talk more in-depth on the Texas schools debating whether to include creationism into science classes and textbooks all across Texas. As well as features Bill Nye’s commentary on the subject which brings legitimacy to the arguments being discussed.
Pathos:The article seems to employ various words to imply fear, uncertainty, and concern on the matter being discussed further in the article. By using “Bill Nye: Debate Over Evolution In Texas Schools Is Jeopardizing Our Future” it can quickly catch the eye of anyone who is already knowledgeable on the topic of evolution in schools.
Tumblr media
Delivery: I’ts delivery is a simple one. It is to bring awareness to the public. The typography being used while short it can be quick and easy for by-passers to read a short description of the problem described throughout the article. By using Iconography like Bill Nye’s photo it adds a new layer of information the reader can take if he or she wishes to research more in-depth.
