Eret doesn't know why he does it. The man he knew wasn't real, was just Snotlout lying to him. He doesn't know why...

All he knows is that the panic he felt when Drago grabbed the small man by the throat and lifted him high into the air was real. Snotlout’s tears and choked sobs were real.

Eret doesn't know why he tries to save Snotlout. He doesn't know why he cradles and comforts the spy as they are held below deck. He doesn't know why he whispers soothing lies against the top of Snotlout's head.

Eret is clearly bigger than him, and Snotlout could notice it at every small movement of Eret's hips against his lower back, as they hid from hunter's eyes behind some crates
