Gus here! The story I’ll be liveblogging is Come, Take My Hand (I Won’t Let You Go) by our own Farah!

Spoilers under the cut, of course, so come back and freak out along with me once you’ve read the story!

00:08 - Ok let’s start this off by saying that Cafe Diem is the BEST COFFEE SHOP NAME EVER (and also a reference to my favorite TV show? was that intentional????)

00:10 - i have such a weak spot for the “who needs to relax? not me! i’ve got shit to do!” alexander, and Farah has done it SO WELL

00:11 - YOU DON’T PULL ON THE PUSH DOOR YOU IDIOT

00:11 - Lafayette and Alex as the preestablished relationship is something you don’t see a lot in fics, and I’d love to see more of it because that’s actually a super interesting dynamic? kudos.

00:12 - “babe, you can barely stand straight” okay but alexander hamilton can’t do anything straight

00:14 - alexander is mad because burr isn’t answering his texts. i love it.

00:14 - burr claiming his phone won’t turn on AND THEN A NOTIFICATION POPPING UP. U DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT IS THE MOST BURR THING I HAVE EVER READ. I’M STEALING THAT FOR MY FICS AND U CAN’T STOP ME.

00:16 - “the human personification of disaster” i see u with ur human disaster aaron burr

00:17 - tired alexander awkwardly checking out hercules is so cute honestly? farah nailed alex’s stream of consciousness without making it feel awkward or unwieldy. a+++

00:18 - YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW HAPPY NB HERC MAKES ME. NB HERCULES MULLIGAN CLEARED MY SKIN AND WATERED MY CROPS. I LOVE NB HERC WITH ALL MY HEART.

00:18 - i also love the fact that they have a moisturizer collection. what a nerd.

00:19 - kudos to lafayette for finding this whole situation hilarious. he’s a good boyfriend.

00:21 - FUCK herc has a crush on alex after having held hands with him for like two minutes. i would call them needy but also i relate so hard. please don’t let my nb child hercules be sad.

00:21 - oh thank god laf is here to clear it all up with the poly explanation. that was a close one.

00:23 - i’m thinking of making thursday afternoons my “gush about how wonderful john laurens is” time also. that’s a smart idea.

00:24 - okay my ultimate weakness is descriptions of people’s hands and farah has knocked this out of the park. excellently woven-in description, discussion of angels, and BFG jokes. this may be my favorite passage so far. really well-done.

00:25 - jesus christ three shots of espresso. alex is going to die.

00:27 - oooh laf seduced hercules. i like where this is going

00:29 - IT’S A DATE! YES! POLYSQUAD IS TOGETHER I AM SO HAPPY! 

Overall? Farah took this prompt and executed it better than i ever could have dreamed. brilliant descriptions, liberal doses of humor, and a really realistic sense of “well, this might as well happen” beneath the hijinks. a really satisfying read. thank you so much to a wonderful writer/datemate!!!

First post of this blog! So I’m gonna be live-blogging (live-reacting?) the first chapter of Sons of Libertea by fihli 

WARNING: THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. i recommend reading the chapter first and then reading this 

22:40 - here we go

22:40 - okay so already the characterisation is a++, i love it when alex is a Mess because i, too, am a Mess, and it makes me feel slightly less pathetic about it

22:40 - ‘so how’d you do it?’ i see you. i see you slipping in musical references into casual dialogue. i. see. you.

22:41 - is it just me or does ‘can i buy you a drink’ sound more like a date when in a modern au than in the musical? idk. that’s gay

22:42 - ‘smile more’ burr pls stop flirting, hamburr isnt the end game and you’re making me ship it

22:42 - OF FUCKING COURSE JOHN WOULD JUST THROW COFFEE BEANS AT SOMEONE HE DOESN’T LIKE, poor burr but also THATS SO TYPICAL OF YOU LAURENS

22:46 - though technically, he didn’t need to stare into his eyes, i bet he doesn’t do that for his other customers. he’s still gay as fuck.

22:47 - ‘prepare to blow him away’ i’m such a slut for casual musical references but i hate this because it reminds me of philip dying and now i’m imagining a character death in a cute fluffy coffee shop fic, fuck you

22:48 - my baby is so precious, bless herc’s existence honestly what a sweetheart i love him so much

22:49 - goddamn laf, talk about a dramatic entrance (my other baby!! my lovely gay children!!) 

22:50 - okay but if each of them have a specific area, what happens when only two (or one) of them are working? do they just...struggle through and hope they don’t burn anything? 

22:51 - HERC EXPOSED THE FUCK OUT OF JOHN ‘that’s not our policy’ NOW THE CUTE BOY YOU WERE FLIRTING WITH IS GONNA KNOW THAT YOU ONLY GAVE HIM A DRINK ON THE HOUSE BECAUSE HE HELLA CUTE AND HELLA GAY

22:51 - i need to pee but i’m way too invested in this fic to stand up, help

22:52 - okay but how does john decide which drink the person will like? how does he just look at someone and think ‘ah yes they’d like this’? h o w ?

22:53 - my fave thing about hamilton alternate universes is seeing how washington is portrayed tbh. is he the uni professor? the boss? alex’s foster dad?

22:58 - ‘tone down your daddy issues’ alex is basically the definition of daddy issues. he is the epitome of daddy issues. the very embodiment of this concept

22:59 - burr is such a nosy bitch. like, we all know you’re interested as fuck, why are you trying to pretend you’re above gossiping or whatever. burr. buddy. chill the fuck out. 

23:00 - oh shit, what if you make this nasty ass concoction that makes you gag and they force you to down it, pls tell me that happens later

23:01 - ‘we do not throw away our shots’ honestly, the hamilton musical was just made for coffee shop aus, and fihli’s doing an amazing job with it tbh

SO, THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS, THIS FIC IS GAY AND GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE ME RISK BLADDER DAMAGE (i really really really need to pee). I know the coffee shop thing has been done a million times, but seriously, fihli is absolutely amazing at taking a trope and turning it into something new and excited. i totally recommend this fic, it’s cute and gay and it’s very familial (i’m a slut for fics with huge friendship groups that act like a family)
