Betony! Name-dropped once by Pipkin iirc, and it wasn't even about him... it was about his mate... anyway. I had a lot of room to work.
I gave all the Cowslip warren rabbits extra neck fluff to kinda push the soft... domesticated feel? I wanted them to feel almost like they were being pampered (which is sorta true). I pulled from those beautiful purple betony flowers for this guy
(I keep messing up where I post.. if u saw that sorry about that ;;;;;;)

Willow! Name-dropped once by Holly as he recounts the conversation with Threarah about Hazel and the lot leaving/wanting to leave Sandleford. Based on the text, more than likely they were an Owsla officer along with Holly since they sat in on a convo like that.
Opted for a greyer color scheme, kind of akin to willow bark. And of course gave them droopy shapes like how willow branches hang. A bit sturdy still though, since I imagined they were probably an officer.

Scabious! Sandleford rabbit, background bunny. Perished in the Sandleford tragedy, his death in particular was described quite gruesomely by Holly. Seems he was remembered by the gang. Sad guy :( There's a kit at the end with the same name, maybe named after him? Who knows!
He is one of my favs out of the designs I did for the background rabbits :) Probably because he's so lavender-coded... I digress.. modeled of course after scabious flowers, in particular their shapes and coloring.

Pine Needles! Sandleford rabbit, suspected survivor? Name-dropped once by Holly. That's it.
Modeled them after pine trees of course. With fluffy tree shapes and needle patterning, and ever Green.
I have not posted in a million years??? Stuff definitely derailed me, but I'd like to finish uploading these so I'm going to try doing that again.

Pimpernel!! Another Sandleford rabbit <33
Sadly died tragically 😭Poisoned by humans and after surviving that killed by rabbits. Sucks </3 Technically a background bunny, but highlighted the tragedy at Sandleford and the awful behavior of Cowslip's Warren.
Drew his design and colors from the really pretty pimpernel flowers! Pushed his softness since he felt honestly like a simpler and more innocent rabbit, and the stuff that happened to him wasn't deserved 😔

Nose-in-the-Air! Background rabbit. Fun name. Name-dropped once by Holly in his retelling of what happened to Sandleford. A survivor, I suspect, at least from what Holly says!
Their design is inspired by air plants! Colors and shape-wise. His pink eyes comes from those colorful flowers some of those plants have :)) I had a lot of fun with it, and the pose :)

This is Nightshade, another background bun from Sandleford! I think he's name-dropped twice in the same paragraph HAHAHA part of the Owsla. Seems to have a very caring and perhaps jovial nature, he gets one [1] interaction with Threarah where he tells him to be careful bc he's getting old, and Threarah pushes him over in response, for fun. <33
I suspect that bc of this interaction Nightshade was an Owsla officer, but it's not fully confirmed. I'm giving him the tags because it makes sense due to context, but full disclosure it's not outright stated <3
Gave him some pointy features and a darker color scheme for his namesake, stuck to a more purpley-black color because of those very pretty purple flowers some nightshade species have :)) Got that yellow in there for a nice complement <33 Also little paw "gloves", for funsies and I think it fits his vibe <3

Feverfew! Name-dropped rabbit. Hehe name-dropped once by Dandelion. Was said to have told the story of El-ahrairah and the Black Rabbit of Inlé, to the rabbits of Sandleford probably. I assume Dandelion learned the story from him :)
Borrowed design elements from feverfew, of course. Tried to make him look older and perhaps wiser... he seems to have been implied to be a good storyteller, just judging by what/how Dandelion recounts, although he doesn't recount a whole lot.

Celandine!! Another background bunny that was just name-dropped once. Significant only in that he was a Sandleford victim and Bluebell notes in his retelling that he definitely died 😔
Also designed after his namesake... very green with hints of yellow and petal-shapes from the yellow flowers that these plants have.

Butterbur!! By far one of my favorite background character designs. Also name-dropped like... one time during Holly's recounting of what happened at Sandleford. So I suspect also a survivor?
Of course inspired by their namesake plant. Also their name just sounds so soft?? So I tried to make their design as soft as it sounded to me :)

Ash!! I think they were just name-dropped like... one time in Holly's tale about what happened to Sandleford. Theoretically a survivor? I drew elements of their design more from the idea of ash and ash clouds than ash trees, just for a change of pace.

The Threarah/ Lord Rowan Tree himself... took his palettes, shapes, and patterns from his rowan namesake of course, and also tried to make him feel old. Because he is. Lol.
Interesting character.. feels like there's a lot of history to him, but we don't see a lot because the story's not about him. Fascinating nonetheless.
(Okay after this post it might get funky, I think for my sake I'll upload by location first, so you're probably going to see a mix of really obscure background characters versus very prominent characters :'') ahaha not that it wasn't already happening)

Woag!! Last doodle before I dove completely into making refs :0
It's the Threarah of Sandleford! :D Interesting character.. I had a lot of fun doodling him and then designing him :) His spots got simplified a lot for his official ref, haha

Toadflax doodle! Wackest design I think. Really wanted him to exude that toad energy haha. One of the least rabbity designs I think, I really stretched this one 😅

Toadflax! Muted his colors from that initial doodle and made him feel just a little less shiny green and more foresty. His design comes from both... toads... and of course toadflax the plant :)
Your typical Sandleford Owsla bully I suppose.. although he does say some really interesting stuff later, according to Holly. He was really fun to design regardless :D

Haystack! It was fun to design her. She's described as a black-and-white Himalayan, so her colors are in light of that! Some of her colors and shapes are in reference to her namesake :)) Like her companions, I also tried to give her that hutch-rabbit softness <3

Boxwood! Described as a black-and-white Himalayan, so his colors/patterns are in light of that. Gave him boxier shapes and more leaf-like shapes as well for his namesake! :) Still kind of kept stuff curved and softer since he's a hutch rabbit.
