So long, farewell, to you my friend
Hey guys!
Like N*Sync and Backstreet Boys, we're breaking up...
Maybe not that dramatic...But we are going on an indefinite hiatus and disbanding Appalachia Collective frown emoticon
It all started in a basement around 10pm last year. We planned for hours, which eventually stretched into days, about an idea we all had. We made a movie, Samyul, which got around 2K views on YouTube, 80+ people at the premiere, an insanely fun after party, a spot in the newspaper, played in numerous festivals, and is still being talked about and brought up even today. We were expecting around 20 views total on it...
We made a successful Halloween anthology last year called Hallouija, which made us believe we could do ANYTHING!
We made a not-so-successful series called Issues. We made an abandoned product called Ultra, and we ended it with a popular and successful Halloween anthology this year, called Monster Mondays.
As you can see, the past year has seen its ups and downs. But through all of that we learned how to be better at our craft and what disappointment feels like, which in turn has conditioned us to be better filmmakers.
The core mission of Appalachia Collective was to become an umbrella of talent because there were a lot of talented people around, but nobody had an outlet to do anything with it. But honestly, deeper than that, Appalachia Collective became an idea about not having to ever grow up, to still be 10 years old and having fun and becoming whatever you wanted to be!
As we all move onto the next chapter of our lives, wherever our fragments end up, Appalachia Collective will always be the glue that holds us together, even if we become part of something else.
Thank you all for your support over the past year! Hopefully, as some of us take the next leap in our filmmaking careers, we can come back to this and make it bigger and provide more opportunities!
