When it comes to love, it’s the little things that count. While I believe my love language to be “Words of Affirmation” as long as you are okay with those words being slightly sarcastic and often spelled with only 4 letters, Jen’s love language may be “Gifts of Varmints”. This morning, post chores, I was inside playing with the baby while Jen stayed outside and worked out. While she was pumping away on the elliptical, she observed our rooster flock being really intrigued by something. Chickens are but tiny dinosaurs and anyone who has ever kept chickens for any amount of time knows that they are most certainly not vegetarian but instead compact, beaked, murder machines. If they were to suddenly gain in size, there is no doubt that they would eat humans without a second thought. Knowing the roosters were definitely up to something more than a beetle, she stopped her work out and went to rescue whatever had their attention. And with Jen’s rescuing, she expressed her love language to me and brought this weird little thing into the same space we feed our baby to show the baby and me. While we did not let Drake teeth on the mole, I could see it in his intrigued side eye that he saw the velvety little creature to be a very delightful treat that he would love to sink his gums into. And with that, saving it from a flock of tiny dinosaurs and a drooling 3 month old, we gained our rescue mole. Ok, so it took less than 24 hours of us getting our new canvas grocery bags to put Drake in one. So, in case you are curious before ordering, the bags hold an entire baby, possibly 2,a box of cereal, some corn and ice cream. The handles are reinforced so as to not drop everything. Tips: Don't pack the baby on top of the ice cream, his toes will get cold and the ice cream will melt and it will all be a mess. Don't pack the baby and eggs in the same bag. If you do, don't worry, it's fully washable but you will be out a dozen eggs. Or you could just be normal and not buy a baby during a grocery trip. Or, just don't buy babies. It is a little easier for us to practice social distancing than it is for most people as long as overly loved livestock doesn't count. We still have chickens biting our toes, goats snuggling a little too close and donkeys that are obsessed with putting their heads against my pregnant belly to feel the baby kick. No one is maintaining their 6 foot distance from us. We hope everyone is safe and cozy at home and making the best of this situation. As the smallest of the small businesses, we are still planning on staying open through it all. As long as the post office is running, we are in business! Our current turn around on shipping out soaps and lotions is about 24 hours or less through the week and now that our markets and festivals are closed, we will be shipping on Saturdays as well! Soap is still being poured daily, we are about to start planting our garden and we are being spoiled by an over abundance of eggs and milk.
