101 Reasons Why Fashion Really Does Matter
This is the beginning of a new adventure for me. Below is the first fashion photo I saved to my phone back in 2011. Who knew that 8 years later I would be archiving the collection for the designer of that dress. I was late to falling in love with fashion and my road was quite the unusual one. My greatest blessing however, was finding a position at the library in special collections at The Fashion Institute of Technology. Fashion history has played a huge role in my life and in shaping who I am, not only as a designer, but as who I am today. My room is full or books, my closets are full of fabric and gowns, and my phone is overflowing with fashion screenshots. My passion is m ost definitely fashion and I love sharing it with others. That being said, nothing hit me harder than the book 'Why Fashion Matters' by Frances Corner. Why, just the other day I was at the MET seeing the Notes on Camp exhibition and 'Why Fashion Matters' was being sold at the gift kiosk. I would love if every designer, aspiring fashion person, and even the average joe had this book to better understand what humans deal with on a daily basis. Everyone gets dressed and that's why fashion truly does matter. Frances Corner wrote notes on 101 points on fashion, including some poignant questions, hard hitting facts, and surprising conclusions and tidbits. Each one was so thoughtful I found myself quoting almost every one to anyone who would listen as a lot of them came up so easily in every day life. Then the thought struck me. I have always love the movie "Julie & Julia" from 2009 starring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep. The premise is that Julie (Amy Adams) starts a magnificent project: she vows to prepare all 524 recipes in Julia Childs' landmark cookbook, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Julie lived a soul-killing job and found that maybe a blog could give her life meaning and spread her story to the world. Here I am, similarly inspired, similarly crushed soul, and similar love for sharing my story. Fashion Featuring will feature many topics. It will span blogspots, tumblr, insta, twitter, and its own site. I'll be writing, creating, capturing, and sharing. In all hopes to teach the world more about fashion and in a way that exciting engaging and new. I may not be the best at all this stuff but I'm going to keep going and through practice maybe I'll hit my stride by week 63. Who knows?
