In Princess Day,what was Marcy doing outside in Broadday light without some kind of protection from the sun?

Nice catch! In Henchman, Marceline tells Finn that, “[sunlight] hurts, but I kinda like it. It reminds me of when I’d scrape my knees up as a kid, and my mom would patch me up.” In both Henchman and Bad Little Boy, we’ve seen Marceline and Marshall Lee undergo the negative effects that she was talking about.

Because of this, when we see Marceline out and about during the daytime, we expect to see her taking care to wear protection from the sun [like her parasol in the first GIF and her outfit below].In the following scene from Sky Witch, PB implies that the sunlight-proofed Marceline is nocturnal, assumedly because of the dangers of sunlight.

BUT, in spite of this, Marceline is present at Princess Day in Breakfast Kingdom without any visible sun protection, and when she goes outside with Lumpy Space Princess, she is unexpectedly unaffected by the sun.

As far as we see it, there are three possible explanations.

She’s not in the sun. The princesses are meeting for an early breakfast, it’s dawn, and the sun is still below the horizon. It’s a pretty big stretch to say that the sun doesn’t rise for the entirety of the episode, given just how quickly it rose on Marshall Lee in Bad Little Boy, but it deserves noting that, while we do see the sky in Princess Day, we never see the sun.

She can be in the sun now. Marceline has, offscreen, figured out some new way to protect herself from the sun, and that method remains as of yet unexplained.

The writers messed up. This might be the most likely option.

When Marceline is first introduced all the way back in Evicted!, she flashes back to this scene, which looks to be outside during the day. At the time, her relationship with the sun hadn’t been established yet, but later episodes confirm that she should be weakened and injured when she’s exposed to sunlight. It doesn’t look like she is, here.

Before Five More Short Graybles aired, they teased Marceline’s grayble with this shot, above the clouds, in view of the sun, but they realized their mistake and dimmed it for the aired version. Brings a whole new meaning to the word ‘grayble’.Inconsistencies like this do pop up from time to time, and that might be what happened in Princess Day.
