‘  indeed  !  ’  the  maiden  chirps  ,  voice  still  crisp  and  freshly  renewed  with  a  sweetened  lilt  .  no  longer  is  there  an  ache  in  her  throat  ,  a  hollowness  of  the  strings  in  her  chest  .  life  now  was  drastically  different  ,  but  royal  affairs  always  remained  the  same  .  ariel  must  tend  to  these  formalities  ,  despite  the  mysterious  origin’s  of  prince  eric’s  exotic  bride  and  the  controversy  surrounding  her  .  ‘  —-oh  ,  but  how  lovely  they  are  !  ’  fingers  gently  nudge  her  mask  to  rest  more  firmly  on  the  bridge  of  her  nose  .  ‘  i  adore  your  gown  .  it  reminds  me  of  the  sea  !  ’

how  WONDERFUL  is  the  world  above  !  the  sun  kisses  all  it  sees  ,  bathing  the  lush  forests  and  in  it’s  occupants  in  honeyed  light  .  fingers  comb  through  grass  and  moss  alike  ,  blissful  smile  creeping  unto  the  maid’s  cherry  red  tiers  .  she  never  tires  of  it  .  now  ,  every  day  was  a  new  adventure  since  ariel  was  granted  legs  and  a  life  with  her  love  .

what  wondrous  creature  is  this  ?  it’s  not  a  HUMAN  --  she’s  accustomed  to  their  two  legs  ,  their  familiar  faces  .  magnificent  ,  the  maid  thinks  ,  watching  as  it  stretches  it’s  wings  and   glides  with  such  graceful  ease  .  ariel  hesitates  if  but  a  moment  before  following  after  it  from  the  sea  ,  diving  and  bobbing  among  the  waves  to  match  the  beast’s  pace  .

how  lovely  is  the  garden  rose  !  beauty  befitting  a  noble  ,  such  purity  and  goodness  of  heart  !  she  knows  not  how  to  greet  her  ,  for  the  hollowness  in  the  pit  of  her  throat  renders  her  mute  .  even  so  ,  the  maiden  smiles  ,  a  wave  of  her  fingers  so  as  to  not  seem  rude  .

it’s  forbidden  ,  isn’t  it  ?  but  oh  !  how  her  heart  swells  with  such  excitement  !  eyes  alight  with  joy  ,  eager  as  fingers  thread  through  the  dried  sand  .  the  coast  ,  the  beach  !  she  knows  she  can’t  be  here  long  --  the  telltale  ache  in  her  gills  is  enough  a  reminder  .  even  still  ,  the  mermaid  sprawls  in  her  powdery  bed  ,  waves  rolling  in  to  lap  at  curled  fins  .  bliss  !
