Day 0
Well, hello! My name is Daria and I want to try this 10040 challenge. Where you basically learn language for 40 days and post your results. My motherlanguage is Russian btw so if I’m gonna be doing any mistakes don’t be scared to tell me that. But i’m not trying to impove my English here, i want to learn Chinese. You see i’ve been learning it for 2 years now at the uni but still don’t get a lot of things. So yeah, wish me luck and i hope i won’t give up in a day ;) Starting today ( 05.01.17 ) finishing ( 14.02.17 )

100 hour 40 day language challenge
Overview: Goal: Study 100 hours in your target language within a time frame of 40 days. Date: July 18 - August 28; or whenever you want to start (typically it’s now until the end of your school break) Tag: #10040 challenge
So, because I got a ton of responses that I wasn’t expecting at all(!!) I’m here to present what are my rules for the challenge!
Okay, so, welcome to the 100/40 language challenge! The original idea of it is to log 100 hours in 40 days, but the overall goal is to log however many hours you can within that 40 days. I’ll expand on this at the end of the post.
You are challenged to expand all areas of language learning. On average, you want to spend about an equal amount of time in the following areas:
Reading/Grammar
Writing
Listening
Speaking
While reviewing Grammar and Vocabulary learned throughout the week and focused at the end of the week.
You will be challenged to find new material to work with. I don’t feel like this will be a good challenge for those who are just starting out in a language, but for those who want to really further their studies, or to get over that hurdle that they’ve been sitting at. But if you want to take this chance to put a real solid focus into that language you’ve only kinda dabbled in, be my guest!
For the Goals: It’s really up to you. Don’t commit to the 100 hours if you can’t. Especially don’t commit to the 100 hours if you’re taking classes that demand your real attention. (Those classes are going to be your first priority!)
You can commit to a 40 day 40 hour challenge. You can commit to a 40 day 20 hour challenge. If you have less than 40 days until your classes begin, but you want that same intensity, just multiply the days you have left by 2.5. Welcome to your x days x hours challenge.
You can also determine your 100 hours when you want to. 100 hours in 50 days, 100 hours in 90 days.
The absolute main point is that you need to have a x number of days selected, and an x number of hours goal. For maximum productivity, you’re going to want both to be determined.
The Requirements:
Tag your posts as #10040 challenge
You can also tag your posts as #10040 challenge language
Tag your posts as #10040 challenge, even if that’s not your specific goal. I want to see your stuff!
Day 0: Create an introduction post - where did you start? what do you want to achieve?
Day 10, 20, 30: Create check mark posts - what have you learned so far? what worked and what hasn’t worked?
Day 40: Your completion post - did you meet your goals? what did you learn?
This really got out of hand but the main idea is that, you want to create an immersive environment for your language studies. You want to expose and put yourself into your language and devote a solid chunk of study to it. This is meant to be challenging and intensive. It’s supposed to be hard and to keep you going through the days even when studying is hard. This challenge does not include passive learning, every single hour must work to push you to the next level. (Honestly, the only thing that might be considered passive, would be speaking it to someone.)
If you have any questions about the challenge, always feel free to shoot me a message! And, shameless self promo, but follow for more information, tips, and suggestions, as I’m about to go crazy during the rest of the summer.
I know I’ve probably forgotten some things, so please check back to this post over the next few days as I add information and answer questions. It’s 11pm, I know I’ve forgotten some details :P
