Blahhhhh. :(
Hadn't posted about this sooner bc tbh it crashed my brain a bit for the first half of this week. But we did end up losing Quail last Friday night.
Our other (and oldest) girl who was sniffling, Nymph, is doing better after her round of antibiotics. But now Jack caught another one snuffling this morning. It got our oldest ones first, took the weakest, and seems to be spreading. So at this point, we really need to treat the entire mischief.
Jack is going to handle that, for which I'm immensely grateful bc it'll be rather more of a Task than just doing a couple. Hopefully a couple weeks of meds for everyone will chase off whatever this is.
I'm also thinking maybe the next free weekend we have with all of us, we need to move everyone to the temp cage, drag the entire quad critter nation outside, and take the power sprayer to it. It'll be a huge pain in the ass, but it's probably a good idea anyway, and at least makes me feel better about possibly getting new babies this summer. Right now I'm extremely anxious about all these sniffles & not wanting to lose anyone else.

He blends in very well with his branches, which sometimes causes brief panics when I can't find him right away. 馃槀

Why did I get stuck with an animal that I have to keep MORE living things for. Bearded dragon, okay fine, but now I have 3 types of worms in my fridge that I have to remember to take out and feed, I have a box full of roaches to feed, and I just made silkworm food at 10pm for the silkworms that arrived today. Why is this my life now

So a few weeks ago, we started Addy on a new arthritis med! Librela is a once a month injection, it's been approved & used in Europe for a while now, and just got approved recently in the US. I had read a bit about it after a mention in one of my dog health groups, and Jack asked the vet about it during a discussion about managing Addy's pain. We've been having more trouble with it over this winter, and she was on the highest dose of her pain med we could do. It was really starting to stress me & Jack out over how much time we might still get with her.
After some bloodwork & confirmation that Addy's issues are all physical (old car strike injuries + age), no neurological symptoms, we did the first injection. She kept getting pain meds for the first 2 weeks, then we stopped last Monday. We've all been watching her closely to see how she did.
And!!! She's been doing great!! A 20 degree temp drop last week? No big deal. She didn't start limping or hobbling at all. She went on a 2 block walk on Sunday night, then spent 2 hours at the dog park yesterday. And today when I got home, she was still bouncing, barreling into my legs for pets, and grabbed a toy for tug.
We're really excited that it's already doing so well for her! I'm really grateful that it got approved when it did, and that we have the vet rehab center so close to us to do the injections.

:/ Crappy start to the weekend. Our sick ratty Quail took a sudden sharp downhill turn after 2 weeks of antibiotics. We're expecting she'll either be gone in the morning, or I'll be taking her in for emergency euthanasia.
Quail is only 2 years (would be next month), but she was a craigslist rescue, and the lady had impulse purchased her from the pet store. So her poor health due to respiratory issues isn't surprising, but still sucks. We've had her since she was around 5 weeks old, and she's always been a sweet baby. I wish we could do more for her.

My brain kinda ran away with me after work yesterday & I ended up doing some rearranging in Charis's viv! I made the mistake of taking her moss hide out, but not getting the overall humidity up enough before she tried to shed last weekend.
I still need to fix the overall humidity, but in the meantime, I made a new humid hide for her. I buried her tree stump hide to turn it into a burrow, added moss to it, and used a cork round as a tunnel.

Charis checked it out & confirmed she can double back on herself in the tunnel to come back out.
I added a paver stone for a basking spot as well, but may need to change that to a slate tile to get warm enough. I also want to add some more clutter at the entrance so it feels more closed in.

My next plans are to add more hanging things for climbing on, as she loves her sky hide & spends a lot of time in it. And I want to add a planter box along the back wall to try and help with boosting humidity. Just need to find some sturdy plants, maybe some trailing ones, to go in it.
But for now, here's the updated viv!

I have a springtail culture that I got months ago from Josh's Frogs, but I stopped feeding them for ages. Recently I've been trying to get back into doing that to get the colonies going again, and I'm so excited that they're really springing (sorry) back! They're all the little white grain looking things, and the fluffy white is mold, which they eat.

3.5 months, bug zoomies! He still loves roaches.
This boy moves fastest for roaches! Also I'm delighted, this is the first time he's been on that back grapewood log. He really seems to be enjoying all of his branches a lot & that makes me so happy. He's been enjoying his new ponytail palm by chewing on one of the leaves too. 馃槀

Two months, able to stand up on his legs for short periods
Tumblr media
Please excuse the mess but
He was fully standing on his back legs!!!
Look at that power stance!!!
He ate half of a big salad yesterday, including butternut squash for the first time! He got roaches as a reward when I got home. He'd been fully pancaked under his slate, till I tipped the bowl to show him. Quite literally about 1 second later, he was next to the bowl and nabbing bugs! He moved so fast!!! I need to try and get a video!

After only a couple weeks, with good food in him & proper lighting for digestion, vitamin metabolism, and wakefulness.
Ed had zoomies yesterday after eating! I missed most of them while cleaning his tank, but grabbed this short bit. I'm biased, but I still think you can see the difference in his movement between this and my first video of his movement. He's definitely got more strength & energy!

I was looking through my Ed tag last night for some old pictures, and Jack & I went down memory lane a bit, seeing how far he's come. So I'm reblogging some of his movement videos. I still can't believe how fast he turned around with proper lighting and diet. I seriously wish pet stores would fix their damn info.
Got a video of Ed trying to move for my post in the fb group. He's a little more hydrated after a soak & drinking from a syringe earlier. We may see what we think about food tomorrow, but we'll see.

To absolutely no one's surprise, I currently have 8 different kinds of greens in the fridge for Ed. 馃槀 Mustard, collard, turnip, cilantro, and arugula from the store. Dandelion & plantain from the yard.
