I had to clean Ed's viv up a bit today, so i decided to rearrange it too! Moved some of his branches (but left the beloved sleeping one alone), added the snake plant, and added a bigger water bowl. Waiting on fb group to verify if the bowl will be okay or too risky - I added the rock for better grip so he won't slip on the metal.

Ed was a bit skeptical on the hand vacuum being near him, so he went out to hang out with Jack. He decided he had beans to spare & wanted to jump & run! So they got the playpen set up for him. He got a good workout climbing the walls. 😂

After he started slowing down, I took him back home to see the changes. He took a minute to inspect my work, mlemed a couple times as he moved down my arm, then seemed to approve & hopped to his basking spot!

I love this scaly man so much.

BTW, possibly time for a reminder...

I get inquiries about where I stand on things, sometimes... when people may have been in a rush and haven't done a search to see what I might have said previously. (Gods know, in harried or anxious times, it happens...)

Personally, I think it would, because it's changing an organism (yourself) in a way that (hopefully) does more good than harm. Well, since today is the 2018 International Day of Transgender Visibility, it’s certainly a good day to get explicit about this. :) I touched briefly on the subject in a post some years back, but briefly the answer to “would the Oath allow transgender wizards” is: yes, of course!

Spirit Keeper Animal Sanctuary (you may know Lori Torrini from her force free snake training videos!) in Colorado is taking the lead on a large intake of 50-70 ball pythons and one african grey parrot from a heartbreaking situation in Nebraska.

The situation is still unfolding but many of the snakes are underweight and may have other health concerns. Vet care for 50+ animals is not cheap and neither is setting up suitably sized enclosures with proper heating and lighting.

I got the tail end of Emma's wild zoomy play time with me & Spring last night - she was playing chase & bitey face with him, tug with both of us, taking toys to hoard on Fort Kickass in the corner, and doing couch parkour. 😂 It's literally the best thing to watch her go full out like this, she's so happy, playful, and silly.

Also followed by getting my new favorite picture of her! Look at that smile 🥹

Working on reclaiming the run from the invasive Japanese honeysuckle that's been taking it over for years. I got a ton pulled down yesterday & have it about halfway cleared now!

A little annoyed that it's gonna rain all weekend so I won't be able to play outside on my days off. :( But hopefully the softer ground will help me tackle the other patch of wintercreeper next week at least.

I have triclopyr to apply to the honeysuckle and wintercreeper stumps when I get down to them but I'm putting it off until I have it cleared out & can apply to them all at once.

Probably won't be able to plant anything new until next year, but need to look into safe climbing plants that could go on the run bc I DO love the look & the cats love hiding in it. I'd just like it to be something not invasive, lol

True to form, I've been at work for an hour and I've already shown my repotted succulents and new baby tree to 4 coworkers

Repotted my succulents today after getting some clay pots & better soil at a nursery nearby! The 3 new babies I got yesterday, plus my two aloes. The lace aloe has done decently, but the aloe vera has struggled, so I'm hoping it likes the new soil better.

And uhhhh the nursery had so many bonsai trees, I spent ages looking at them 😭 The two I REALLY wanted were $40 each, so I semi-behaved & got a little $6 baby. Only to then discover she's a Serissa or Snow Rose bonsai & they're not recommended for beginners bc they're really sensitive to changes. 😅

So.....I guess I cross my fingers and hope I don't kill her immediately.... she's inside bc they can't be in temps under 50F. Some of my other babies came in for the next couple days as well, with the cold nights.

.....I need more grow lights. And shelves..... 👀

Spruced up Spoon's viv tonight, as he's been waking up. Stirred up the substrate, which was in great condition moisture & smell wise. Found the main isopod hiding place in a pile of moss & added a few more moss areas for them. Their numbers seem a bit lower, so I also added some oyster shell for calcium & some roach chow around a couple moss areas. Then added a bunch more leaf litter to cover up the substrate again as it was getting bare.

Hoping to add a couple more live plants to his viv this year, along with some better lighting & possibly a basking spot.

Me: immediately ends up exhausted and sad about animals due to repeatedly losing rats

We're down to 5 now - Ava & Bonus are both just over 2 years & looking frail, and we have Pesta, Nink, & Spor left of the babies, 10 months old. I found the naked baby, Nergal, dead in the cage on Tuesday evening. No clue if this means there's been something contagious taking them all out or if Nergal had something else due to hairless genetics. We sent her out for a necropsy on Wednesday morning to see if we can find out, for peace of mind & a chance to protect the remaining rats.

Still going to try to post more about the other critters when I bounce back some. I'm just so tired.

Likely not 100% done, but done enough for tonight and for the girls to move back in later anyway. Added a couple of puzzle toys with treats too!

I spent around 6 hours today setting the retirement cage up, moving all 8 rats to it, then breaking down the entire rat mansion & splitting the halves apart. Took them outside and got one half power washed and disinfected with f10. The other half got stashed in the backyard for now bc it was rather a bigger project than anticipated. It'll get washed at some point and then stored.

Tomorrow I'm finishing washing decor and then setting the clean DCN up for the younger group, Pesta, Spor, Nink, Nergal, and probably Chip. The old ladies, Bonus, Avaritia, and Budget are staying in the smaller cage, but Budget is going for euthanasia on Monday.

My body is very sore.
