I've just been going through some stuff and feeling kind of insecure and every time I try to tackle things on here it's like my brain locks up and won't let me write.... Or if I do manage to force something out, I immediately decide it's shit and then just don't want to post it.

“Of course you will.”

It’s rare for the Iron Lord to give a compliment, and even rarer still for it to not be a backhanded one.  But in the shot amount of time he’s known the woman in front of him, he’s learned she’s certainly capable of looking after herself.  Hell, he would even say she’s tough, and that is not a word he throws around lightly.

But that doesn’t mean he’s not without his reservations about this.  It doesn’t mean he’ll follow blindly-- hell, it really doesn’t even mean he’ll follow at all.  If it comes down to it, he’ll do things his way, and won’t that be an unwelcome surprise?  It isn’t as though the BSAA knows everything he can do-- he’s made damn sure that no one knows the full extent of his power, not even Miranda.

“Just remember that you’re not the only one in the room with tricks up their sleeves.”  Is it a reassurance, or a warning?  He’s not one hundred percent sure yet.  The two of them are on rather uneasy footing still, not quite sure what to make of one another.

Jesus.  He hadn’t thought shit could get any crazier than what he’d seen in the village, but this one?  She was bordering on unhinged.

“I don’t think “eenie meenie miney mo” is the best way to decide what surgical implement to use,” Heisenberg remarks dryly as a number 15 scalpel handle flies into his outstretched hand.

Should he have done that in front of someone else?  Probably not.  But this lady’s nuts.  He fits a disposable blade to the handle, removes the blade cover, and studies the mass of... something on the table before them.  “Guess I’m going in,” he grumbles, and presses the curve of the blade to the membranous tissue.

A brow arches behind sunglasses as he studies the other man.  “Oh, I’m sorry...  Are you not an adult?  Incapable of making your own choices?  Or is this some lame fucking excuse to not talk to me?”  He pauses for just a beat.  “Because if it’s the second one, you could just fucking tell me to fuck off, you know.”

Honestly, of all the lame-ass excuses...  What the hell even was that supposed to mean?

“Wait just a goddamn minute.  You just talked to me-- a stranger-- to tell me that you’re not supposed to talk to strangers.  There’s a fatal flaw in your logic there, my friend....  So, at this point, you’ve already broken your own rule...  No point in trying to keep enforcing it, I’m afraid.”

Green eyes skirt over to the veiled figure beside him from behind his sunglasses.  Had...  Donna just attempted to make a joke?  Donna had a sense of humor?

Well, color him surprised.

He chuckles at her.  “You know Donna...  I didn’t think you had it in you.  Look at you, making jokes at the expense of our poor, unfortunate victim!”  He makes a grandiose gesture toward the poor sap that’s about to be dragged into Miranda’s lab.  Some little nobody from the village. He’d said something he shouldn’t have said, gotten caught with some contraband from the outside, and as soon as word had gotten out, they had been called to act.  Miranda’s loyal little enforcers, the lot of them.

“Do you suppose Mother Miranda is going to get bored of him?  Turn him over to us?  Or just stick a Cadou in him and watch him go full lycan like the rest of the freaks in this place?”

There’s a long pause from the Iron Lord-- almost too long-- as he stares the other down.  The sentiment is...  Eerily familiar.  So much so that it’s nearly bone-chilling.

Chris Redfield has felt loss, has mourned long and deeply.  He’s felt alone, has felt the anger and pain of knowing that the very reason you draw breath is no longer there, has known the emptiness that seems to worm its way to the very center of your soul to sit and fester for the rest of your life.

That same ache, that same rot, has made a home within the lord of the factory as well.  It’s been there so long now that if you were to cut him open, he’s certain everything inside of him would be black, consumed by it entirely.  He snubs out his cigar before he meets the other’s eyes again.

“You can wish that all you want.  Bitch of it all is, it doesn’t change a goddamn thing, does it?  We’re still here and they’re not, and there’s not a goddamn thing we can do about it.”  He pauses for a beat.  “So, who was yours?  Girlfriend?  Wife?”

The Iron Lord frowns, lighting a cigar before he speaks further.  “You can’t risk Miranda finding you.  If you want to go out that badly, wait until tonight.  I’ll go out with you, let you walk around the area...  But you can’t go into village.  If someone sees you, they’ll run straight to Miranda...  And the last goddamn thing I need is another sibling.”
