Time Lord Victorious shows what happens when the Doctor gets too big for his britches. When he decides to be one of the power-crazed megalomaniacs that he spent so much of Old Who making fun of. It's 'this is how far the Doctor has fallen, look at him, he's barely recognizable.'
The Timeless Child plotline victimizes a character who's always been about the choices that you make, makes them some super special being from another universe who omg the Time Lords would never have become what they are without who can never die, profers the idea of multiple Doctors out there, and takes the role of The Original away from William Hartnell who started it all by putting who knows how many other regenerations before him.
The Timeless Child plotline uproutes the entirety of who the Doctor is and then... shrugs and says 'but it doesn't matter anyway, right?'
And on top of all that... It did it after first making the Doctor a woman.  Because now that the Doctor's female we can't have them just be someone who decided they weren't happy with the way things were, so they left to go explore the universe, and then learned with a little help from some initially unwilling friends that in fact maybe they wanted to *help* the universe.
No, the Timeless Child says 'forget everything you know, actually the Doctor was a victimized child, and also has infinite lives and literally doesn't know themself.
NuWho as a whole is all too fond of making the Doctor into a god, one way or another. RTD and Moffat did it via actions and ego and word of mouth and allegory. Chibnall took it a step further and literally made the Doctor some unique and special creature.
I hate both plotlines, but I hate the Timeless Child plotline more.
middle-aged white men will rant for hours about how the timeless child arc has ruined doctor who because 'iT mAkeS tHe dOcTOr toO imPoRTant' and then say how amazing the timelord victorious stuff sounds.
like timelord victorious made the doctor the 'winning' timelord... 'the laws of time are mine and they will obey me' I have got the right plot here haven't I?
while the timeless child arc makes the doctor... an abused child.

Vanya Hargreeves was a tiny psychopath who killed three people because she didn't want to eat oatmeal. How long do you think it would have been until one of her siblings made her mad?
Real talk. Vanya was a danger to everyone around her. Convincing her that she had no abilities and drugging her was the best thing that could've been done for everyone's safety.
I've seen someone say that Hargreeves should have made Allison tell Vanya she heard a rumor she had full control over her powers. Do people not see how that wouldn't be good?
Do y'all think the Phoenix being locked away was a bad thing too? I'm just asking.

Yeah, things would have been much better if Vanya had listen to Allison when she talked about the creepazoid flags her boyfriend was throwing up.
However, I do not see how the story of the time Klaus saved his ass chocolate pudding would have aided in avoiding the apocalypse.
(also, uh, Allison wanted Luther to talk about his trauma, and I know how much y'all hate that, so I don't think you guys would've been happy with that either.)
hot take: if everyone had just listened to klaus and allison for more than half a second the apocalypse could’ve been averted.

Or... Luther's death wouldn't have stopped the apocalypse?
The fuse was already lit. Harold did that. Do we really think Luther being dead would have just made everything sunshine and rainbows? (oh, wait, this is tumblr, of course we do.)
How do things go in your version of events? At what point exactly do we kill Luther? How happy a homecoming can we expect for Vanya in a situation where presumably Five up and shot Luther in the head earlier in the day, and Allison is dead or wounded?
Do we really think that nothing is going to upset her ever again for the rest of her life, that some nightmare or injustice won't awaken the 8yo psycho inside of her? Because that's bullshit.
There'd be something out someone, it would just be on a different day. Maybe Diego's mouth would get the better of him, maybe it would be Pogo, who knows?
Hey, you know the real humdinger that was left off that list? How about Vanya?
Remember when Five’s calculations produced four names of people whose deaths could prevent the apocalypse?
Luther’s name should’ve been on that list, too.
Lbr he’s 100% the reason Vanya lost her shit. Vanya bore all of the horrible things done to her leading up to her becoming the white violin without losing her mind, and it was only being betrayed by Luther and trapped in that cell by him that made her grip on reality slip. Until then, she still could’ve been saved. She still wanted to be saved. She went to Luther for help and he assaulted her, then tossed her in the same cell their father tortured her in.
So, yeah…IMO Five’s calculations were slightly off 🤷🏻‍♀️

I feel like the thing is that Batman is most interesting sans the Robins as a character, but the Robins are infinitely more interesting than him.
Tumblr media
My interest in Batman breaks down to:
75% Robins
24% Villains
1% Batman I guess

Call to Action: Leave Feedback with Disney
I called The Walt Disney Company, today to discuss James Gunn’s termination and they were helpful and listened well. Also, I was told that they have already received some other calls regarding James Gunn being fired.
Tumblr media
Signing the petition is a good move to show your support of rehiring Gunn, but I suggest also taking some time to call Disney and voice your concerns, as well, since speaking to an actual person can be a powerful form of communication.
Please be polite to the people over the phone. They are just doing their job and you are asking for their help. If you’re angry and impatient, they will likely be reluctant to help you. Refer to them by their names, thank them for helping you, say please, give them appreciation.
Here’s how I went about it:
Call The Walt Disney Company: (818) 560-1000
A voice will ask you if you are calling for ABC television or something. Wait until she is done telling you to press 1, and then press 1.
An operator will answer the phone. They cannot connect you unless you have a specific name or extention. Ask if you could (please!) speak to Bob Iver (the CEO of Walt Disney).
They may ask you why you need to speak to him. I told them the following:
“I was hoping to discuss some feedback with him.” They put me through to someone who could help me.
You will not be able to speak to Bob Iver, obviously. They will connect you with someone who will take a message from you and run it through the company to Iver. When I was connected to someone, I wrote down their names so that I could refer to them by it. Seems respectful and considerate?
They asked me what I needed help with. Here’s, vaguely, what I said:
“I wanted to leave some feedback with Bob Iver about the recent firing of James Gunn. I’m not sure if you’re the correct person for me to talk to, but if you’re able to direct me to who I should be talking to, I’d appreciate it a lot.”
That’s when they said they’d pass a message along to Iver.
Basically, you can say something like any of these:
I would like to request that James Gunn be re-hired for the director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
I don’t think firing James Gunn supports Disney’s principals that people can change for the better.
I’m not sure if you’ve already heard, but over 300,000 (you can check the number here) people have signed a petition to re-hire James Gunn.
I think firing James Gunn stops him from being able to redeem himself.
I think that Guardians of the Galaxy helps people and Gunn should be able to continue his good work.
The person I spoke to over the phone let me list off quite a few of these without interrupting. They clarified what I was saying by repeating it back to me, and told me they were writing it down.
You can throw in anything, really, that you think is suitable. Just, please, remember to be polite and appreciative.
The operators and staff that I spoke to were accommodating and helpful. Whether or not the person I spoke to over the phone really passed along my message and really wrote it down I couldn’t be sure of, but they certainly put in effort into sounding understanding and they let me talk without interrupting or arguing or being rude.
I think it’s important to make this call, since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 goes into production this fall and I don’t think we want this sort of thing happening to another artist in the future. If you believe James Gunn was doing good work by working on those movies, if the Guardians of the Galaxy has ever helped you through hard times, please, at least, try. You will be representing GotG fans, promoting the concept that people shouldn’t be fired for things they said over a social media platform years ago, and supporting the idea that people, when given the chance, can still do good things even after making grave mistakes.
If you’re not sure if you want to make that phone call, please reblog this so that other people know it’s an action they can take. Also, there’s this petition you can sign.
