in the books, armand initially didn't care to be interviewed but then agreed to because of sybelle.
idk how much of tva will be adapted for this show (like getting actual flashbacks to venice) but if so, do you think it's likely show armand will be reluctant to talk about his life or go about it differently?
yeah i don't know either how much tva will be adapted esp since i saw an interview w rolin awhile ago where he said he's only really interested in adapting up to tale of the body thief and maybe memnoch if they have a good idea for it but like.....that would mean no tva. however, i ALSO understand their potential reticence bc one of the reasons they aged up claudia was bc they said they didn't wanna potentially make content for pedophiles which would be very difficult to avoid w a straight up and down tva adaptation in the style of s1 and 2.
that being said, i feel very certain that we'll get more armand backstory. i do think armand will still be reluctant to tell his backstory, it's a part of his character to be withholding and he also thinks that his past has made him too difficult to love. and considering that marius didn't come back bc he was indoctrinated by the children of darkenss and that lestat left immediately after he told him his backstory, that view of himself has been reinforced. i love what sybelle and benji symbolize for armand so of course i would love it if that motivation was the same but i could also see them doing something different.
the most boring option (to me as a person who's not into dm lmao) would be getting interviewed by daniel as like a romantic thing. like armand wanting daniel to really know him so he tells him his whole story. i hope the show doesn't go in this direction bc i think it would be boring and too obvious. and i do NOT wanna hear daniel making racist, shitty quips while armand describes his experiences as a child sex slave. like i have literally NO patience for that. bc he would and he would definitely not see armand as sympathetic, despite so many fandom interpretations bc daniel is a shitty racist person who does not care about victims of abuse and will only pay attention as long as he can make a buck off them. like this guy raped a girl when he was in high school and then made a one liner about ppl making sexy claudia halloween costumes, this guy is NOT gonna be moved by armand's story OR wanna kill marius (not that i need him to do all that but i don't like him so i don't wanna see him lmao).
if they kept it the same as the book and he gets interviewed by david talbot i would find that interesting esp bc of david's own history of pedophilia and how persistent he is to get armand's story in the book would be interesting in the context of the show where his history of being exploited by white men over and over again for their own gratification, both sexually and artistically, has been made even more explicit and david's insistence on writing his story would be a continuation of that. in fact, this last point would be the only way i would find daniel interviewing armand interesting. like if it was more about him being sleazy and chasing more vampire money like we saw him at the end of s2, then i would be more into that but only if it's recognized as a predatory act. also i find it interesting that armand requested the book be called symphony for sybelle and that wish was not respected. the control he has over his own narrative is negligible even now.
lastly, bc in this house it's NEVER loumandover, i think armand telling his story to louis, the person who knows him the best and has been w him the longest would be interesting as well. louis is defined by his compassion and he forgives too easily and i think hearing the gritty details of armand's story would have this messiness of him feeling sympathy for this person who's truly been taken advantage of and hurt over and over again in horrible ways mixed w the anger that armand could then turn around and do all of those things to louis and the ppl louis loves. and bonus points if armand tells louis his whole story after marius turns benji and sybelle and is in the midst of his bone crushing grief of the futures his children will never have now. the two of them understanding each other more clearly than they ever have and wishing they could've known all of this sooner but also knowing that that was never gonna happen.
anyway, all that to say i have the feeling tva will not be it's own thing but will be placed throughout the remaining seasons or will maybe be a stand-alone ep or something and will be light on the flashbacks but i'm hoping that they do something interesting considering how compelling i find his backstory and how what happened to him is echoed throughout the rest of the series bc of his perpetration of the abuse he suffered onto those around him, and ultimately kicking off the whole story by killing claudia the way he does

thinking about sam talking about lestat in the present day and how he’s choosing to wallow and rot and how performative it all is. the bit where sam says he’s in this ruined house but he’s wearing designer shoes and has a $20k speaker. and it’s like yeah! he’s choosing to wrap himself up in self-pity and despair bc it feels better to feel bad than to try and actually work on anything that brought you to that place in the first place. it’s why i don’t have a whole lot of sympathy for him there bc he’s literally chosen to do this caricature of grief and gloom than…literally anything else lmao

loumand made the worst interior design choices known to man. that bit where armand wants an ai weiwei wallpaper with a painting of lemons... someone looked those up and the result would've been NAUSEATING. impressive that two men who have been involved in visual arts for decades have such little taste. that was perhaps their worst crime. forget about serial killing, those two lived in a concrete box on PURPOSE. louis wears athleisure... it was such a cry for help. from both of them. thank god for gay divorce
i like to think they had such disparate personal styles that their tastes cancelled each other out which resulted in whatever the hell was going on in the penthouse

Reverie (Study for the Portrait of Frank Burty Haviland) by Amadeo Modigliani
Italy, 1914
This artwork depicts a study done by Amedeo Modigliani for his portrait of Frank Burty Haviland. The subject of the work is an introspective and dreamy representation of Haviland. The drawing technique used in this piece showcases Modigliani's distinct style characterised by elongated figures and simplified features. The colours employed are muted earth tones with subtle variations to create depth and dimension. This study was executed using oil paint on canvas, highlighting the artist's preference for this medium. As for its meaning, "Reverie Study" captures a contemplative state where one loses themselves in thought or daydreaming. It invites viewers to delve into their own thoughts and emotions while contemplating the essence of inner reflection.
Amedeo Modigliani belonged to the modernist art movement known as Expressionism during his time. In this particular work, he maintains a highly stylised approach by emphasising elongation and simplification within his subject matter. His brushstrokes convey emotion through bold lines and sweeping gestures that enhance form rather than realistic depiction.

marius/armand shippers: “ppl are allowed to be interested in relationships that explore dark themes w/o being called abuse apologists 🙄”
random person: *explores the dark themes in the marius/armand relationship*
marius/armand shippers: “ummm i think you’re over exaggerating, marius isn’t even that toxic. sorry he’s not perfect person but also armand is a liar who can’t be trusted”

crazy how people will call armand their favorite character and then proceed to strip him of his agency and personality, project onto him, and then draw/write him as an orientalist caricature that exists solely as a beautiful sex object

before you draw armand in little to no clothing -gold, hypersexualized, etc - let’s take a little moment to THINK, ya? maybe let’s consult our good friend edward saïd first??

you know, there’s a lot of discussion of how the specter of marius hovers over a lot of armand’s behavior which is correct and true but i don’t think enough ppl talk about how much the specter of santino colors armand’s treatment of claudia specifically
