My Great Uncle was approved for a care home that's like... half an hour away. This is so good, he'll be in a safe spot where he can receive care for his final-stage dementia, and we won't have to worry about him escaping and hurting himself. Or forgetting to put clothes on. It's still really close we can visit him often. But it was just too taxing on my family working on our own lives, and having to try and keep him from running away or getting into trouble, especially with family members working through the day. The situation is still mega stressful, but this is a step in the right direction. I'm really happy my cousins (once removed) came to the decision it was time to start contcting an assessment person and care facilities in the area- which less than a month they were able to find him a place. Tomorrow he's moving to the facility. I really wish him all the best. I don't live in the same village the rest of my family does- I'm 10 minutes away. I don't want to overwhelm people by going. It's not my place. But yeah. It's some good news after his steady decline over the last couple of years. My family can somewhat destress a little bit.

My great uncle is already in the "final stage" of his dementia- he was officially diagnosed earlier this year. He was showing signs in 2019- and was declining (and is still declining.) But the last couple of months have been the absolute worst. The last couple weeks alone have been really scary. His sons- my (first) cousins (once removed), finally awknowledged that things have gotten really really bad. And have met with an assessment team for care facilities. They've put him on an "emergency care" list and basically are on every wait list for every care facility in the community. It's just a shame that there's such a lack of care facility staff, and I think they're underfunded. Also, I'm sure they're also super packed no matter where you go. So, unfortunately, it's going to be a wait. The assessment person told my grandpa (my great uncle's brother, and only living relative from their family unit) that he might only have a couple years left if he's fortunate enough to have a couple years. I'm stressed. He isn't the man he used to be. He used to be a huge pillar of the community helping and running a lot of events. And now, he's... "lost". (sometimes literally) The doctors are also expanding the area they've been observing in his head. Memory loss is so scary. I can't imagine and don't want to think about how horrifying it would be to wake up and just... be confused, forgetful, lost... etc. Seeing it first hand is already stressful.

So since we got to the cottage on Friday, our star.link is broken for the remainder of our vacation until we can send it to the company and they will replace it.

Nonetheless, without internet and stuck on data for a week with 1-bars of service (not that's a bad thing. Unplugging from the laptop is good every now and then) I have to go on a hiatus until the week is over.
