a huge criticism of the gilette ad is “you don’t see a big corporation telling women to do better!!”
listen it’s because… we do that ourselves every single day. on our blogs, our instagrams, our facebooks, our forums, our twitters, women are constantly being fed and feeding each other with self-improvement on a level that i don’t see men doing. all the pretty graphics and long think pieces on personal and emotional and social growth… women consume that so much on the daily.
i see so many posts on how to get rid of toxic behaviours like weekly. and yes there are men that do involve themselves in these conversations but they are largely done and circulated and consumed by women.
so what’s your point? we already exhibit a higher level of self-reflection… by ourselves. so we’re not offended when we’re told to do better………

For all the progressive black sheep in the family, this is a reminder to support feminist-owned businesses this holiday. Creative artists and organizations work towards building statements that embrace helping others. We all need to be aware of the problematic choices in place and work together for our future. Let 2019 be the year you can spark a dialogue.
And a good way to do that? By giving the gift of feminism to all of your friends, family, and co-workers. But where to start?

According to your comments, medical professionals do treat men and women differently. Many of you stated that medical professionals were more concerned about your reproductive systems, even when you were visiting them for unrelated matters.

Why Tumblr Deleted Your Favorite Artist
There’s a lot of panic running around my dash today about various people’s blog’s getting arbitrarily deleted, and noone seems to know what’s happening (if, actually, anything).
There is most certainly something happening, and it’s this:
twitter.com
/bluechoochoo/status/1063836783257866240
Turn that mess into a URL and you can read about Apple suddenly dropping the tumblr app from the App Store. I’ve mangled the link, because (I hear) tumblr has also changed their search algorithm to deprioritize posts that contain links, and I want people to be able to search for this post.
The random blog deletions are almost certainly part of the same effort to appease Apple. People on my dash have reported being deleted without warning, having subsequent accounts similarly deleted, and then being reinstated after getting a sufficient amount of follower-rage via alternate accounts.
This, to me, looks like tumblr is running a script that scans their complete list of blogs to look for whatever Apple is complaining about (most likely pornbots, but maybe NSFW content in general, Apple is famously prudish and censorious), finds it by matching some set of parameters (most likely some combination of being marked as NSFW, posting mostly reblogs or original content that are primarily images or image+link posts, possibly with a machine-learning filter that looks for porn-ish content but I very doubt they spent the effort on that), and “taking care of it” (by uncerimoniously deleting the blog). They’ve tuned the parameters of the matching script to be very broad, and are relying on people to have enough connections to raise a stink they’ll notice if a real person gets caught by the script.
The parameters I just mentioned would tend to target visual-artist blogs as well as pornbots, leading to the apparent spate of artist-blogs getting deleted. The repeated deletions indicate that this wasn’t just a one-time run, and that whatever “flare up” (whether it’s criminal activity or moral guardian boredom) will be ongoing for a least a while now–WHICH MEANS IF YOU’RE A VISUAL ARTIST OR HAVE A BLOG THAT EVEN VAUGELY MATCHES THE PARAMETERS MENTIONED ABOVE, YOU SHOULD SET UP ALTERNATE SOCIAL MEDIA AND MAKE YOUR FOLLOWERS AWARE OF IT NOW. THIS ISN’T OVER AND THERE’S A GOOD CHANCE THE SCRPIT WILL FIND YOUR BLOG NEXT.
If you’re not ultra-popular in a way that your deletion would cause user-base unrest Tumblr’s holding-company can see on their bottom line, it’s very likely you’ll not be able to get reinstated.
Source: I’m a web developer, and I spent five years in Silicon Valley working for three different top-five social networks, and this is how somehting like getting kicked from the App Store would have been handled at all of them.
My alternate social media are Twitter (@Soren_Tycho) and Github (username sorentycho). If I disappear here, look in one of those places for more information.
HT @bea-the-witch for the news links.
I wouldn’t normally ask such a thing, but please signal-boost this.

You know what? Fat queer People of Colour are great. You are awesome. Despite fatphobia, racism, and queerphobia you are still here. It really takes strength to go through this every day. And I am glad you are here. I could say, look forward to the good things. But it is okay if pure spite against society keeps you going most of the time. Still, I hope you have great times ahead, you deserve them.

Today, 11 Jewish people, my people, were shot dead by a man shouting “All Jews must die” simply because they were jewish and celebrating the birth of a child on their day of rest
Anti-semitism is always happening. High school boys drawing swastikas because they think it’s funny. People dressing up as Hitler for halloween. People profiling such as making fun of curly hair and large noses.
And when our own get blatantly murdered, I only see jewish people talking about it.
The leader of our country blames the synagogue for being attacked by an armed gunman.
People try to turn this into an anti-gun argument.
This was a hate crime that resulted in the loss of 11 human lives. Please acknowledge this. Please let this have some impact. Do not let this be forgotten or slip by unnoticed. This was a horrible event that should not be discarded

A terrifying New York Times article today announced that the Trump administration is considering “narrowly defining gender as a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth,” a measure that would essentially eliminate any and all recognition of transgender and nonbinary people and, therefore, their civil rights.
The memo from the Department of Health and Human Services claims officials need a clearer definition of gender. Their proposed definition “would define sex as either male or female, unchangeable, and determined by the genitals that a person is born with, according to a draft reviewed by The Times. Any dispute about one’s sex would have to be clarified using genetic testing.”
“Sex means a person’s status as male or female based on immutable biological traits identifiable by or before birth,” the department proposed in the memo, which was drafted and has been circulating since last spring. “The sex listed on a person’s birth certificate, as originally issued, shall constitute definitive proof of a person’s sex unless rebutted by reliable genetic evidence.”
The new definition would essentially eradicate federal recognition of the estimated 1.4 million Americans who have opted to recognize themselves — surgically or otherwise — as a gender other than the one they were born into.
“This takes a position that what the medical community understands about their patients — what people understand about themselves — is irrelevant because the government disagrees,” said Catherine E. Lhamon, who led the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights in the Obama administration and helped write transgender guidance that is being undone.
Let me be perfectly clear: Being transgender is not something you can believe or not believe in, support or not support. It’s a reality. Trans people exist. Always have, always will. What this will do is make it infinitely *more* difficult than it already is to be trans in America. Violence, poverty, inaccessible healthcare, and a slew of other already-persistent problems will worsen. New generations of trans kids will be silenced in ways that date back decades, if not longer.
We cannot under any circumstances allow this to happen. Vote. Protest. Cis folks, donate to trans-led organizations and trans individuals’ GoFundMe pages for medical care. Talk to your transphobic (or trans-ignorant) friends and family about what a policy like this would mean. And if you’re trans and need support today, call the Trans Lifeline at 1-877-565-8860.
Trans friends: I see you and I love you. We will not let them erase you. We will fight this with you.

“Transgender people in Uruguay are celebrating after the country’s Congress passed a comprehensive trans law yesterday (18 October).
The law brings in a host of new rights for transgender people.
Most notably, trans people can now self-identify their gender and update their legal name, without approval from a judge.
The new law also creates scholarships for trans people to access education, as well as sets up affirmative action. It also now acknowledges the self-identification of non-binary people.
The comprehensive law also creates a monthly pension for transgender people born before 1975. This is a way of making reparations for trans people who were targeted by the government during the country’s dictatorship from 1973 to 1985.
The reparations are effective of 1 January this year and affect anyone born before 31 December 1975.
The new law also requires government services to employ a minimum of 1% of the transgender population.
62 of 88 senators voted in favor of the new law.”
