Okay, ridiculously long rant about the Darius and Ben fight incoming. I'll try to keep my shipping googles off but I have feelings too okay?? Also if someone from the crew sees this, no you don't.

Disclaimers: This is only MY interpretation. Sometimes I put dialogue on quotes for effect but it's not actually a direct quote (it is very close though).

Furthermore (get it? Because this is an "in this essay I will-" post but like, actually) I was a naive little bitch when I started typing and thought I could do the whole thing with one post, but no, the image limit continues to haunt me. I'll be reblogging the next parts (1/4)

So prior to the fight, they were all preparing to leave the island even with the scorpious rex loose but Ben straight out left the camp and now after saving Darius (with a monorail parallel) he's still distant and lowkey ignoring him. Personally, I think he fully decided to stay on the island the moment he left camp and now he's avoiding actually saying that's what's happening. He IS looking for Bumpy and worrying about her, but he's also using her a bit as an excuse to leave the others (and for the others to leave him)

This is right before he says he's not going. He looks nervous for a second there, I don't think he wanted to have this conversation, but he does say it, in a very straightforward way. He straightens his back, looks Darius in the eye and says "I'm not going"

"Okay, I get it, you're mad at me, we don't have to go together" by his tone of voice I don't think Darius actually believes this, I think he's just testing the waters to see if Ben will back off his decision if he gives him an out. It also doesn't escape me that Darius is offering to walk BEHIND him, where he would be more vulnerable, despite Ben just displaying that he's more proficient at walking around the island. Forever self-sacrificial, my boy.

The tension starts heightening now and I find it interesting how they're talking past each other, like in most fights tbh. Darius is trying to make a logical argument, that's what's worked for him so far and he also leans that way as a person. Ben, however, is ALL feelings right now. He feels safer on the island because he learned to be himself there, he feels that because he could do that much he can do anything. No amount of logic will shake that, "why don't you trust me?" He asks, and Darius says "Because you're just a kid". To Ben, who has accomplished so much, it feels like Darius is underestimating him, not trusting that he can handle himself (maybe that he still sees him as the scared kid he was when they met) but Darius is saying something that makes complete sense, the odds Ben beat by surviving alone were already low but just because he beat them doesn't mean he can continue to do so forever, he IS just a kid. But of course, Ben can't see that right now.

from @flintoaster​‘s fic! had some time to draw and ended up doing this. i actually envisioned them sitting on the couch while reading the fic, but then i moved them to the 1st floor ground, realized there was no space for them to hang their legs off the edge, then moved them to the 2nd floor (which i needed to find reference for which is what sparked that other post)
