Another day’s trek through the Vast Poni Canyon ended when the sun began to set. For all of her time spent hiking the trails that day, Mina barely got any inspiration for her next big project. Her lack of muse paired with the strong encouragement from her friends to enter an upcoming art show in Heahea City had been on her mind lately. It was hard to come up with good ideas when the pressure was on and she felt that she had exhausted the canyon’s views for any inspiration. There were only so many times one could paint the same view before it looked duller than the first attempt. A piece like that wasn’t something she could be satisfied with on her own, much less for a competition.
It was tonight that she hoped to find that inspiration in the night sky. The cloudless sky and the new moon were ideal for stargazers hoping to catch the meteor shower. Her Shiinotic’s cap glowed brighter as twilight began to fade, serving as a guide to avoid any potential dangers. And so, the wandering artist decided to set up camp close to the Altar before it became too dark to see anything in front of her.
Not too far off from where they were, another glowing light stood out in the darkness, illuminating the sky with an electric blue color. Her initial thought was that it was some kind of projection brought on by her Pokémon, but Mab looked just as startled and confused by the light as she was. Without saying so much as a word to her companion, Mina turned to investigate the source of the light with a different theory in mind: Aliens.
The trial captain’s theory wasn’t so far off from the truth. As she approached the end of the canyon, the dots were beginning to connect in her head. It wasn’t much longer before a familiar voice called out to her. Mina squinted her eyes as she looked up at the trainer on the edge of the stairs.
“Alola, Lillie! It’s been a while, huh?” She greeted the blonde casually, as if some strange supernatural activity wasn’t actively taking place several yards away from them. Despite that, she was well aware of what Lillie was talking about, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have questions. “Your Cosmog evolved though, didn’t he? Is there another one out there?”
Across the Universe | Lillie & Mina
@feypalette
Lillie climbed the steps of the Altar slowly, careful to keep her distance from the crumbling edges. She felt the effects of the Repels she’d used gradually fading as she walked. Even though she was a Trainer now, unlike the last time she had set foot in this place, the wild Pokemon in Poni Canyon were stronger than her team could handle. She had thought about waiting to return until her Pokemon were up to the challenge, but that was a long way away, and she wanted to visit to the spot where she had seen Alola’s legends come to life. Fortunately, wild Pokemon avoided the Altar itself, so she didn’t bother to apply another Repel.
The stairs finally gave way to her destination – the platform with an inlaid Alolan symbol. Raised above the cliffs of the canyon, she had a clear view out to the horizon. It was a perfect place to observe tonight’s meteor shower, and any other celestial entities that might grace Alola’s sky.
Stars pierced the sky as the sun dropped low. Just after it dipped below the horizon, a new glow suddenly flooded the Altar. Light as bright as the midday sun poured out of a circle hovering a few feet off the ground. More bled through cracks emanating from the edges of the disk, as if the air itself were fracturing. The sight was hard to look at directly, not only because of the dazzling light, but also the way that space seemed to bend and warp nearby.
An Ultra Wormhole.
Lillie tried to keep her breathing steady as she backed away from the wormhole. The International Police would know what to do, surely. Hadn’t they been working with the Aether Foundation to deal with the Ultra Beasts and wormholes resulting from her mother’s experiments? All she would need to do was contact them and they would handle the situation from there.
She was about to turn and leave when a particular chiming noise floated out of the wormhole. The sound echoed in her heart – she would recognize it anywhere. Her initial fear helped her fight against a sudden desire to leap into the wormhole and rescue the Pokemon.
Still, it would be reckless for her to venture into the wormhole on her own. There could be anything waiting at the other end. She should at least find someone to watch her back, hopefully a stronger Trainer than herself. Her legs propelled her down the stairs much faster than they had carried her up them as she considered the quickest path to another person.
At the edge of the Altar stairs she hesitated. She had packed Repels for the return journey, but she had been planning to hike back in the morning light. If she got lost in the dark, they wouldn’t be enough. Fortunately, she spotted a familiar silhouette framed against the rapidly darkening sky.
“Mina, I need your help!” she called as loud as she dared, hoping not to disturb any wild Pokemon settling down for sleep. “An Ultra Wormhole opened up and I think Nebby… er, I think there’s a Cosmog on the other side!”

Why do I create?
Because I need to be loved.
It struck me when Christopher Doyle said that in an interview. For the longest of time, I refuse to admit this truth, and in a sense, I still do. There is always a deliberate moonlighting and concealing of the desire to be loved as you are; a willed distance between one’s assumed identity and deepest yearnings.

what are you thinking of doing in the future?
“After I’m done being a trial captain, I kind of want to study abroad somewhere. Probably Unova. Art school is expensive though and my parents don’t really make a whole lot of money to afford the tuition.
On the other hand, I don’t really need a fancy college degree to prove my worth. But it would be nice to have that whole college experience. I bet it’s a whole different world from here in Poni Island.”

q-less‌:
Quentin suddenly became much more fascinated in the Exeggutor than he was before, which was saying quite a lot. Finding out they only lived on one island opened up a whole new set of mysteries that Quentin was determined to find.
He listened as Mina explained about the ferry, as he scribbled a few more notes down in his journal. He looked out at the island again, before looking at his watch, and over at Fermata. “Yeah, we’ve got time. Come on Fermata.” Quentin said, turning around to head towards Seafolk Village. He managed to make it a few steps before turning back towards Mina.
Tumblr media
“And how do I get to the ferry from here?” He asked realizing he had no clue where he was going. Quentin couldn’t help but notice Mina looking at his Pokemon. He reached out and began scratching behind the Lucario’s ears.
“Adorable, isn’t he? His name’s Fermata, and I call myself Q.” Quentin said, rushing through his own introduction before going back to his Pokemon.
“He might look stern and tough, but really he’s just a big softy who wouldn’t hurt anyone. Isn’t that right buddy?” Quentin turned towards the Lucario and began squeezing his pokemon’s cheeks. Fermata’s expression remained unchanged as his face was played with, much to the trainer’s amusement. “See? Harmless.”
“Interesting. You don’t meet a lot of people that call themselves by a letter. That a codename or something?” Most people that did that usually had a mysterious vibe, which this guy didn’t seem to have much of. Codename might have been a bit of a stretch. “I’m Mina, by the way. And this is Oberon.” She reached down to give the Granbull, who now stood at her feet, a firm pat on his side.
“You ever thought about him becoming a model?” Mina wasted no time in asking, already forgetting about her original business here. She wasn’t about to let an opportunity slip out of her fingers so easily. “Not like a magazine, but for a portrait?”
She flipped open a book that she carried, turning to a page with different sketches of the native Exeggutor he was looking for and passed it off to him as an example.
“I’ve never seen a Lucario up close before. I didn’t think I’d ever meet one so docile.” Without thinking, she reached to the fighting-type to touch one of his floppy ears. “It’d be great to get him in my sketchbook.”
Tumblr media
“The Magikarp boat in Seafolk Village will take you there. You can’t miss it.” Or maybe you can, from this view. She pointed towards the village, but the Wailord boat blocked the view of the smaller ferry boat. “It’s towards the end of the pier behind that restaurant.”

Honestly the sight of Mina alone sent the swashbucklin’ pirateer into confusion. Again, he had to question - Why did she have all that paint across her face, and her hands? Yet she said she was looking for her Ribombee, whatever that was. Maybe it was some sort of paint or something? Either way, Archie didn’t have a clue.

She stifled a laugh at the sight and quickly moved her hand to cover her mouth again. Watching the man slowly turn into a cloud of yellow fuzz almost made the artist forget her original mission. The missing pastel stick was within her reach now that the man had shifted his arms a little further away from where it had landed.
Her free hand was nimble in swiping the stick while he was distracted by the swarm that slowly took over his figure. It was a little unusual for this many Cutiefly to gather around a single person. In her mind, she liked to think they were drawn to his peaceful aura, or something like that. In reality, maybe he had a smell that attracted the little fairy bugs, like a Sweet Scent.
Tumblr media
“I’ll be on my way then.” Mina spoke in a low whisper, grasping the pastel firmly in one hand and brushing a couple of Cutiefly off her shoulder with the other. She turned back towards the tree that she had been camping out in, determined to finish this piece while the opportunity was there.
Depending on how this one turned out, it would be the perfect piece to have on display in the Pokémon Center in her hometown.

incredipretty‌:
The sandy beach and its warming promise on the feet is a more appealing venture just by sights alone, but it’s nothing that Whitney’s disappointed by as she follows the girl, giving a “Oh! Be careful—” as she hands back over the drawing pad. She was meant to be doing something or other with this girl.
But Whitney can relish in the freedom that her fingers have once more, wiggling to get rid of the stiffness in them. While the girl prepares her spot, Whitney laughs. “I wouldn’t want to be you, carrying all of this everywhere you go! And so many people do it everyday! I heard it’s super popular in Kalos, or something.”
There’s a note of admiration at the end, deserved, if they all pack as well as her company.  Regardless, Ambi is keen to see what there is to be shared as the blonde-haired girl sprawls out cloth and gear. With the invitation directed to him and his trainer, he hurries on his tail hands to be there first, Whitney crouching behind him as he angles his body to get the best view. Enjoy the small oooo, ooo noises as he realises what he’s looking at!
“Ohhh, you’re so good!” Whitney cries. If there’s anything she can’t resist, it’s an extremely cute pokémon doing extremely cute things! Yes, even sleeping. "He’s totally the cutest! Did he really stay asleep like that the whole time?”
“You kinda get used to it after a while.” The Vast Poni Canyon was a decent workout for a vagabond like her.  On longer treks, she would omit the less important items from her carry-on to make things easier. But that didn’t mean she wouldn’t take advantage of someone’s empty hands whenever she had the chance.
“He did for most of the time, except for when he got distracted by some noise.” Mina smiles proudly at their reactions, feeling rather validated by them.
She passes the sketchbook back to the pink-haired girl, allowing for her to admire it with her Ambipom for longer while she continues to unpack her bag of some smaller items: a packed lunch for when she got hungry, an insulated bottle with homemade iced Roserade tea and finally, a pair of headphones (might not need those right away). It was a wonder how Mina could fit all of this stuff in one carry-on or how she managed to get here from Poni Island without straining her shoulders too much.
“So, uh… actually, I never got your name, did I?” She asked her while flipping through the book to a blank page. It seemed like she was about to focus her attention on her next piece of work as she kept talking to her while picking out a pencil to start with. “What exactly did you want to know about me?”

Work in Progress - Mimikyu
   CRASH!!
Shards of the decorative vase that once served as a home for a bouquet of wild flowers scattered across the table in her kitchen, some of them falling to the floor along with a puddle of water. Fortunately for Mina, the glass missed her when she failed to catch the falling vase in time, but her clothes had gotten wet as a result. As she squeezed the water out from her shirt, she gave an irritated glare to the culprit who was already on the move for it's next target.
DJ Mary said to her that the Mimikyu seemed to act out for attention, and she seriously wasn't exaggerating. Mina had intended to provide her newest companion with the attention it craved, but she couldn’t help but wonder if she was biting off more than she could chew. This little thing was already a handful!
"Hey... Try to calm down, alright?" She whispered to the Pokemon as she slowly approached her to try and pick her up. "I know you’ve been dealt a rough hand before, Mimikyu. But I'm not going to- No, no! Don't do it!" The girl scooped up the impish Pokémon just in the nick of time before her dad’s prized fishing trophy could become the next victim. She breathed a sigh of relief when the trophy wobbled still into it's default state and turned to look at the wiggling Fairy in her grasp.
Tumblr media
"Doesn't know how to cope..." Mina muttered, repeating what DJ Mary had mentioned to her earlier. An idea popped into her head, though she wasn’t certain if it would work.
The Mimikyu looked more confused when her new trainer sat her down in front of a large blank sheet of paper. A Ribombee fluttered over to her side, offering her a small box of crayons with a friendly chirp. It took her a little while to understand the gesture, but the Mimikyu happily accepted this token and went to work with a dark crayon on the paper.
“I heard about this on Pokémon Planet once. Some Pokémon can use their creativity to cope with their feelings, kinda like therapy.” Mina explained to her new friend, who was barely listening while she absorbed herself in her work; they already had something in common with each other.
Tumblr media
“You just keep working on that and show it to me when you’re done.” The Mimikyu paused her movement, inching closer to the paper as if to hide her work in progress.
“I mean... you don’t have to show it to me if you don’t want to.”
This was going to take some work.

“Oh! Look up there, Ozma!” Mina whispered excitedly to the Wigglytuff hiding in the bushes with her. Through a pair of binoculars, Mina could see an abnormally large Skarmory perching high on a cliff above the trail they were observing from. It was just as she heard from the other Seafolk Villagers. Mating season was underway for the birds of steel and there were reports of a large Skarmory migrating to the Vast Poni Canyon to lay her young.
It was a great opportunity for Seafolk Village’s young and upcoming artist to capture the magnificent avian. Not with a Pokéball, but with a pencil and paper! The Wigglytuff stared up in awe of the giant bird, her blue eyes fixed on the nest she seemed to be building for her eggs, while Mina quickly and quietly prepared her sketchbook and tools to begin her next piece.
Barely three strokes of her pencil touched the paper when a sudden loud noise burst through the otherwise quiet part of the canyon. It startled both the artist and her Pokémon, causing them both to scream in surprise. The Skarmory immediately took off into the air, abandoning a half-finished nest in search of a quieter area in the canyon.
“No, wait! Come back!” Mina pleaded to the bird, but her voice was drowned out by the music that continued to play. She dropped her supplies to the ground and shielded her ears, walking in the direction the music seemed to be coming from. Ozma followed her closely behind with her rabbit-like ears pulled downwards by her stubby arms. They didn’t seem to be too far away from it when the vibrations could be felt from the ground.
“Hey!” Mina called out to the girl that was causing this racket, but she seemed to be too immersed in her playing to hear her.
Tumblr media
“Excuse me!” But it had no effect.
With a different strategy in mind, Ozma opened her mouth wide to wail out a Hyper Voice attack. If this didn’t get her attention... she didn’t know what would. Except maybe unplugging the amp from her guitar.
Canyon Show | Mina and Electra
Starter for @feypalette!
Poni Island was about as far from Kalos that Electra could think of. She didn’t think she’d ever been that far away from home before. The guitarist could feel a twinge of homesickness in her heart but also a feeling of excitement. Electra was finally out and about in the world learning all the different musics within it. Of course she couldn’t help but feel excited at that.
It seemed the island was mostly uninhabited except for Seafolk Village and the house here and there. This was perfectly fine for Electra though. It was nice to get away from the commotion of the city one in a while. Who knew such an uninhabited place existed in this day and age? Walking into Vast Poni Canyon was like a step into the past. Sure there were trail markers and a few wild Pokemon running around but other than that it was strangely quiet and tranquil.
Well with Electra around that wouldn’t last long.
“Imagine the sounds that would bounce off these canyon walls…” The guitarist pondered aloud at Phosphora. The Manectric simply looked up at her, the Pokemon knew full well what was about to happen. Unhooking Blitzkrieg from his cart and taking her precious guitar out of its carrying case she hooked it up to the amp in the cart.
Electra strummed the Les Paul a few times to get into her playing mindset. Phosphora watched silently as she provided the guitar and amp it’s electricity to function. Despite seeing it numerous times during her lifetime, the Pokemon was always surprised how serious her trainer got once that instrument got into her hands. Electra was no longer her outgoing self but far more serious instead.
Tumblr media
“Alright, Vast Poni Canyon. Are you ready to rock?!” Electra shouted excitedly as she played the first few chords to Ride The Lightning by Metallica. Well… mostly serious anyway.

☆ ・‥… “Aeeegiiigggaaahh, ahhhhh- Luc!” Comes a whining groan from an open refrigerator, but mostly from the half-naked body of Yours Truly, limbs and all half sticking out from within the to-go boxes and stashed fruits. “If I stay in this region any longer, I swear, I’m going to end up sweating off more gains than I can..well gain!” (muscle.. that is!)
“Wish this region would cool off a bit, maybe some good ol’ Sinnoh snow as a friendly introduction-” The boy perks up, a metaphorical lightbulb blinking on as he emerges from within the fridge. “Hey, do ya think it’s possible to ship some over? Snow, I mean. Like, uh, that movie where they shipped some flowers for the bee- Lucas? Luuucas, where’d ya go?”
The motel room was silent. The air still humid and impossibly stifling as Barry huffs and puffs at some sliced watermelons about how rude his friend could be at times! Leaving his genuine inquiries unanswered! The bold nerve of the indoor nerd!
Good for Barry, his ridiculous question was granted an answer. He wakes up, perkier than usual and no sweat dragging him to the showers. He opens the curtains to find-
H-huh?
Tumblr media
“Whoa whoa whoa! No way!” He doesn’t bother changing out of his PJs and canon-balls right in the closest snow lump, whopping and hollering all the way. Not once did he think this was weird, coincidental, or down right impossible.  After a good moment, just soaking in the biting cold of familiar snow, did Barry think it was time for exploring- he didn’t do much of that because of the debilitating heat before! So with his classic short-sleeve orange striped shirt, cotton jade colored scarf, and his lovely pearly whites Barry and his Staraptor shot straight into the sky in search of a place to train and there they found Poni Wilds. Ha! The name had Wilds in it. Basically named for him!
With a hoop and holler, the two dive bombed out of the clouds and landed not-so-gracefully on the very top of the tallest tree the island had to offer. Heavy lumps of snow cascaded down and if anyone was under that tree, well, they better enjoy snow showers! Barry skillfully climbs down the tree, looking very much like a Chimchar, to see someone had indeed been a victim of the shower.
“Haha! Watch out a little more, yeah? I’m sure you guys aren’t used to snow- or cold weather in that matter- but never fear for I-” He stretches for emphasis! “-am an expert! Top tier! A prodigy! A supre-,” Star shakes the tree to cut of her trainer before he went on another tangent. A thinking hand taps his chin.
“Buuut, your hair looks nice like that, with the snow and all, kinda like little glitter stars from the sky. What can I say, blond hair types like us always look dashing in anything, so I can’t say I’m surprised!”
Tumblr media
“The name’s Barry by the way!” A hand stuck out for a hearty handshake that is paired with a toothy grin. “Barry Kramer! Runner-up Champion of Sinnoh and only the strongest trainer to walk this wonderful earth- oh? Is that a blush I see? Please, please hold your applause, don’t mind me at all! Anyways, wanna battle, show me what this islands trainers power level is all about?”  ・‥…━━━☆
Tumblr media
The impact of the snow on top of her head takes her by surprise, resulting in a yelp from the young artist. The snow sculpture of her Granbull, who happily modeled for her, had become covered with extra snow and lost its shape. Mina instantly pouted, feeling as though her time spent getting the head juuuust right was all for nothing.
She looks up to see who the culprit is, though it doesn't surprise her at all that it happened to be some other trainer.
Oberon begins to bark up at the tree, determined to protect his trainer from any sudden attack that may come her way until the other blonde climbs down to their level. As non-threatening as this enthusiastic trainer appeared to be, it takes more than just a reassuring pat on the head to get him to stop.
What's more annoying is how he didn't seem to acknowledge that he completely messed up her first ever snow sculpture! The thought of having to start over from scratch made her hands stiff. Actually, they already were feeling stiff before. These gloves weren’t exactly cutting it, but it was all she had.
“Mina.” She introduces herself with some hesitation, but ends up shaking his hand with one glove off, hoping that the brief contact would warm her up a little.
It was hard to tell if he was making fun of her or trying to flirt with her. Perhaps the Granbull was right to be this protective of her, although he has mostly simmered down by the time Mina points him out to Barry. “This is Oberon. And this…” she gestures to the faint pink color on her cheek. “...is just paint.”
Nice try, Barry.
“I'm kind of in the middle of something.” She turns to the sculpture, which looked more like a white mound of ice at this point. It was a shame that her hands became so stiff, only for this to happen after her efforts. These gloves were already soaked from touching the snow for so long. Even her repeated finger movements weren't doing much to keep the blood flowing.
“Actually, this is probably a good time to take a break.”

q-less‌:
Quentin nodded when Mina mentioned Exeggutor, and he turned to look towards the island she had pointed out. He looked over, noticing her outstretched arms and the frame her hands made. Quentin slowly raised his own hands, making the same square frame with his hands and holding out his arms. He didn’t know why he was imitating her, maybe it was a way to focus the eye better or a social cue he didn’t quite pick up on. Either way, it helped him locate the small island in a long way offshore.
He squinted and looked out towards the island and taking a few steps closer. He could barely make out a few trees, seeing the green fronds moving slightly. Was it an Exeggutor or just a palm tree swaying in the breeze? He kept squinting and kept staring at the distant trees, still unsure if it was the pokemon or just another palm tree. That was until he could make out the brown trunk of one of them slowly walking across the island. Last time Quentin checked, trees didn’t walk.
Tumblr media
“Fascinating.” the scientist mumbled to himself, pulling out his journal and frantically scribbling down a few notes before mumbling to himself again about the Exeggutor. While he was a little disappointed he couldn’t see one up close, the thought of an entire island full of Alolan Exeggutor would have enough material for Quentin to study for days. He turned towards Mina and began asking a few more questions, forgetting his original plan of trying not to intrude on the artist’s work.
“Do you know if the Exeggutor only live on that island, or can they be found anywhere else?” Quentin asked, noticing the Granbull nearby. He smiled at the pokemon softly and gave a small wave, while Fermata glanced at it suspiciously.
She couldn’t help but glance over Quentin’s shoulder to sneak a peek at his journal. He didn’t seem to be the artistic type like herself but she still felt a little disappointed to find nothing but notes in his book. They were difficult to read at a glance. It seemed that he had his own style of note taking that she couldn’t decipher right away.
“As far as I know, that’s their only habitat.” Mina answered him as she moved her fingers back into a frame, now focusing on a much closer subject. While the Lucario exchanged eye contact with Oberon, Mina centered it into the middle of her imaginary picture to observe its features. After mumbling a similar sentiment about his Pokémon, she turned back to the stranger.
“There’s a ferry in Seafolk Village that can get you there. It should be departing in…” There was a brief pause while she checked the time. “...about half an hour.”
Tumblr media
Mina looked over to the island contemplatively. While she had made regular trips to the island before to train and draw, she didn't have plans to visit again anytime soon. She had seen everything that the island had to offer. But if she were to accompany him to the island, for protection as she would put it, maybe he would allow her to use his Lucario as a reference.

Frostbite - open starter [Event]
The strings of colorful lights that hung on the palm trees of the cities and the limited edition flavors in the Malasada shops could only mean one thing: It was finally December in Alola.
Even if the islands lacked the crisp mountain air, the residents took their holiday festivities just as seriously. Older folks dressed as Santa in custom outfits to suit the warm temperatures and none of the major cities skimped on their tree lighting ceremonies. Many of them had to make due with man-made structures rather than a genuine pine tree, but the holiday spirit shined in the residents and snowbird tourists nonetheless. Artisans sold handmade wreaths that were decorated with seashells and bakeries were accepting orders in advance for their famous holiday treats.
There was just one thing missing to make the mood just right.
For many younger residents of Alola, the sight of freshly fallen snow was nothing more but a fleeting desire. Traveling to Mount Lanakila was quite a hassle without strong Pokémon and many have never made a point to go there before the Pokémon League was established.
“I wish it would snow in Alola.” was a common phrase around this time of year. Despite the rebukes from tourists who were escaping blizzards and freezing temperatures in their home regions, many children still yearned for a chance to have snowball fights with their peers and build snow people.
Mina was no exception either. Nothing could be more exciting for her than to build a snow sculpture.
Snow in Alola was just as rare as finding a Celebi in the wild.
“I wish it would snow here.” She mentioned offhandedly as the topic came up in a conversation the other day. “I bet it would be fun.”
And so it did. Weather forecasts couldn’t have predicted this phenomenon in advance. It just happened overnight. Everyone in Seafolk Village couldn’t believe their eyes then they woke up and the docks were covered in ice. The ocean was slow to freeze over but the sandy beaches were completely covered in pure white powder.
No one knew how it happened and some people worried about the safety of older folks and the vegetation that was sure to die off from this phenomenon. But the only thing that concerned Mina right now was building her first snow sculpture. Oberon waited patiently for her to bundle up with a pink fleece jacket, a knit hat and gloves and an ordinary pair of jeans and shoes. Believing this would be enough for their outing, the two of them set out towards the Poni Wilds to have the time of their lives.
Or so they would think.
